Prince Harry ditched his flight back to London so he could visit Meghan Markle

Prince Harry’s two-week-long Caribbean tour is finally over. What did we learn? Not a whole lot. Harry did some good things, of course, like doing some events for HIV testing, etc. But basically the whole tour seemed to be about “Harry is the nice prince.” He was easy-going, he played with children, he met Rihanna. Did the British taxpayers have to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds for that? Anyway, now that the tour is over, you would think that Harry would be back in London. Nope. He apparently ditched his people and took a flight to Toronto so he could meet up with his lover Meghan Markle.

Prince Harry reportedly made a 1,700 mile detour to Canada on his way back from a tour of the Caribbean – to spend time with girlfriend Meghan Markle. The Prince was originally due to fly to London from Barbados on Sunday but took a diverted route to stop off and see the American actress, The Sun reported. According to the newspaper, the pair spent Monday at the 35-year-old’s home in Toronto.

A source told the paper: “He was due to fly back to London on a British Airways flight with the rest of his entourage. But he changed his mind and diverted straight to see her as they couldn’t bear to be apart. He is absolutely besotted. We’ve never seen him so happy – it’s great.”

[From The Evening Standard]

True love? Or an international booty call? Or both? I think it’s both. Harry was all worked up after spending time with Rihanna and he hadn’t seen Meghan in weeks. My question is… how long will he stay in Canada? I think he has an event scheduled this week in London, maybe Thursday? So he might fly back home tomorrow, if I had to guess. And then what? Will Meghan fly to see him?

A few more things – Meghan was spotted in Toronto ahead of Harry’s visit (or was he already in Toronto?). She was carrying flowers and smiling for the paparazzi.

And over the weekend, Meghan posted a photo of one of her rescue dogs wearing a Union Jack sweater. Well played, girl.

She had me at the rescue dog.

    • raincoaster says:

And moccasins. She’s getting all the Canadian points AND the British ones!

Those flowers are probably from the paps. Two different bouquets, both cheap, both from the same shop (see the paper?). Harry sends jaw-droppingly plush, expensive bouquets, to judge from her previous pix.

  2. Sage says:

International booty call. I still think this will end sometime after Invictus Games.

  3. Alleycat says:

Is it still a booty call if they’re in a relationship? I’m not sure why people are so against this relationship. I’d rather have Meghan than a socialite if Harry won’t pick me.

    • Ramona says:

I dont get it either. She is a beautiful smart accomplished woman who happily calls herself a feminist and engaged in envoy work long before him even though she was not high profile enough for anybody to care. Plus she is age appropriate and raised in the real world. I mean their relationship will face enough opposition from his circle, his extended family and his racist subjects; cant this be the one place that sends out positive energy to this couple? Please?

    • suze says:

A booty call can happen within a relationship! They are the best kind.

All Harrys girlfriends are hated, but she the most of all. Hardly matters what anyone on the Internet thinks, though.

      • Alexis says:

Fangurls do light clucking when “their” guy dates or marries an early twenties, blonde model, but the deepest ire is always saved for the age appropriate, independent professional, “not that hot” partner. See also: Sophie Hunter, Eva Mendes, Amal. It’s strange and kind of gross. Isn’t this exactly the type of partner you’d want for someone you like? SMH.

    • Lascivious says:

@Alleycat Agreed. I guess conflict is more interesting than calm?

    • Mary Mary says:

International booty call. He was photographed with all the others, why not the latest gf?

What is not to like? The Hollywood actress bit. The fake “on” personality and the attention seeking thirst?

I’m not a fan of this woman and I do think she is an attention seeker. His former gfs were not as attention seeking, particularly Chelsey.

  4. Susannah says:

I definitely think it’s both, he loves his booty call! I’m really hoping this relationship works, not just for them but because I sometimes go to royal forums and I would love for all those judgmental, racist, nasty, class-obsessed bitches to be proved wrong.

      Get it, Harry!

    • Bonobochick says:

It’s interesting to me that he seems to be exhibiting very different different behavior with her, in that he truly seems besotted. Yet some continue to insist it isn’t real and/or are hoping their relationship fails.

It’s odd behavior to witness in my opinion, because I would think a Harry fan would want him to be happy. All signs regarding this relationship seem to indicate he’s very happy with Meghan Markle. I guess it’s hard for the racists to admit or accept that.

    • wow says:

      + 5 Million and 6!

Yessssss Susannah! I couldn’t agree with you more!

    • PennyLane says:

Agreed. She seems cute and harmless (if a bit thirsty). I like it that she does charity work and has a rescue dog.

Would love to see Harry and her get married so I can watch all the uptight, racist people’s heads explode. Good times!

      • Sarah says:

I too would love to see them marry – maybe in Vegas or the Caribbean – and then watch the cluster-f**k begin. I like Markle although she seems a bit too publicity- thirsty or “tuned in” to publicity to fit in long term with Harry’s old money friends. And therein lies the problem – it’s not because he’s royal but it is because he belongs to a class that values discretion and understatement. Markle would lose her sanity in his world because she would feel so stifled from being her real self. Love doesn’t conquer all sadly.

  5. notasugarhere says:

He just finished two weeks of positive work for the family firm, more engagements than W&K took on jointly during their one week Canada holitour. If he takes 24 hours off to visit his girlfriend, why the fuss? Honestly. He’s back to work in London tomorrow for an event for Sentebale, ICAP Charity Day.

  6. Skins says:

Do the tax payers have to foot the bill for this guys international booty calls or does it come out of his pocket? (well, as much as something can come out of his pocket) And please all you bad reporters, give him some alone time with his hot piece, I’m sure they have a lot to talk about

  7. Maria says:

I find a detour through Toronto on the way back from the Caribbean not that big a deal. The article makes it sound like the poor guy had to swim all the way there.

    • Maria says:

Exactly. I live in Toronto and I know where she lives. Maybe I will go and stalk him. Go Harry!

    • Nic919 says:

They were at the Cameron House last night… I am blocks away from there and missed a possible sighting!

  8. swak says:

Good for him! Some people need to get a life and stay out of his.

  9. Emily says:

Leading up to his trip, the outlets were all breathlessly reporting his busy schedule and how he may not get a chance to see her. Well, he had a chance and he took it. I can’t get all the hand-wringing over it. I’m American, and wonder how I would feel about seeing this “welfare family”, as some have alluded to, live and work like this on my dime, but…at the end of the day he’s doing his job (laid back though it may be) and it is his money (even if you don’t agree with how he got so much of it) and he wanted to see his girlfriend.

  10. Kitty says:

Do we even know if this is true?

  11. Katherine says:

Don’t mean to pick, but, honestly, was there a memo for all media outlets to treat this relationship with such negativity, cause that’s all I hear. The tone of all coverage on this topic is just a bit weird, maybe it’s just a reflection of his image (didn’t pay attention to news about him before so not sure?), but she seems like a decent person who does not deserve the language ‘booty call’ when she’s in a legit relationship. All of this makes me feel like Harry’s kinda not good (enough) for Meghan, tbh. But obviously I wish them both only happiness regardless.

    • Dyan says:

      It’s because she’s mixed race

      • wow says:

But if you read around on some of the royal gossip boards, some of the posters try to classify it as anything but racism…even after making several racist comments about Meghan. SMH.

Being a love interest of a toyal seems like emotional hell, to me. Now I see what Harry meant by finding a woman who is willing to take on the job because who would want to put up with that kinda crap just for falling in love? To have people just making up things based on their assumptions and then repeating it over and over again as if it’s an actual fact. Nah, I’ll pass. But I do admire the ladies who do take on that negativity and handle it with a smile.

  12. duchesschicana says:

I just Hope PH trip to his GF is paid for privately rather than by British tax payers.

  13. Starlight says:

I am sure she will drop a few clanger tweets to get the press going

  14. Moi says:

I must refute the continual claim that those who don’t like Meghan are, basically, racists. The ONLY people who ever, ever refer to her race are her fans. It needs to stop, IMO.

There are other reasons to think she’s less than wonderful. Here are a few:

*As soon as the story leaked she stirred it up with blatant, coy little IG posts. Then she had the temerity to be involved in a statement claiming “it is not a game”. Extraordinary hypocrisy.

*Said statement starts to look rather less the romantic gesture than some people suppose when you realise it was largely written by Meghan’s lawyers (hence the Americanisms in it that confused so many).

*While staying as a guest of the British Royal Family no less she just HAD to do a supermarket run straight past the Daily Mail offices and just HAPPENED to get snapped by one of their reporters.

*Throughout Harry’s tour she continued to post pictures of herself on IG knowing full well they’d be used for stories about her. She knew this would happen and did it anyway. A lot of people would have considerably more respect for her if she’d simply taken a break and showed an ounce of discretion. And no, “She makes a living from Tig” won’t work as an excuse…all the pics were about her personally.

*Her “humanitarian” acts only started when she signed up with a PR firm which is known for pursuing the charity narrative for it’s clients….to the degree that it hosts award ceremonies with it’s clients as the winners. And, sorry, there is no excuse whatsoever for taking a fashion photography crew with her on a “humanitarian” trip to Rwanda. This is about the most cynical and obscene thing I can imagine.

Prince Harry can date whoever he likes. Everyone is entitled to a private life. But he has a responsibility to his family and the people of the UK to ensure that anyone brought into the fold officially is fit for the role. Meghan Markle has conclusively shown in just a few weeks that she is not. She desperately wants attention and celebrity, and that’s fine. But this is anathema to everything the BRF is supposed to stand for and she’d make a total mockery of them.

He won’t marry her, and frankly, if he has gone to Toronto I think it far more likely that it’s to start the process of ending things with her which can’t really be done over the phone.

So please, can people stop with the “it’s her race” nonsense. You may have noticed that many, many Brits got excited at the “chemistry” he apparently had with Rhianna. What colour is her skin again?

    • Nic919 says:

This is verbatim from the stuff posted on Royal Dish non stop. It is tiresome. She is allowed to use social media even though she is dating Harry. It’s not like she has posted selfies with Charles or the Queen.

Ripping on her trips to Rwanda is pretty low too.. so she brought cameras? Big deal. She still went there and did something. How many other actresses ever bother going? And then there is Kate who should be doing charity as part of her job and just sends letters.

Getting photographed by paparazzi isn’t a crime and outside of the ones who were trying to break into her place, she hasn’t complained about that. It was the articles about living in Compton with gangs that set Harry off. Do we honestly expect Meghan to become a shut in now?

They aren’t engaged yet, if ever, so if she is using this to boost her popularity then so what? If Harry is okay with it then why do we care?

      • Tina says:

Agreed. Absolutely none of the above is a deal-breaker. She seems like a modern, media-savvy girl. I hope she and Harry are happy together. If they want to get married, they should get married. If they do get married, I hope they both do more engagements than William and Kate. If they don’t get married, I hope they both go on to live happy lives.

      • Moi says:

Prince Harry and Meghan cannot, literally cannot, ask for privacy while Meghan is doing everything in her power to promote the relationship…union jack jumpers, necklaces with their initials, spooning bananas etc etc. It smacks of hypocrisy.

And, seriously, it is the ultimate spin to shrug off a woman taking fashion photographers to Rwanda. At least she did something? What, exactly? Get photographed for a fashion shoot? How offensive to those thousands of people who actually work there and genuinely DO do something.

Anyway, all of this is neither here nor there…the issue I wanted to address as this interminable and rather bigotted insistance that people hate her because of her race. The UK is not generally bigoted even if our press sometimes veers in that direction. There are plenty of reasons to dislike Markle without that.

But she won’t marry Harry. Anyone who thinks that this is even possible simply does not understand the Royal Family and who they strive to be.

Bitch about Kate all you like, but a mother of two who doesn’t fulfil as many engagements as you think she should simply cannot compare with the “Look at me, look at me” shenanigans Markle has engaged in.

I agree with you re: the pap shots in Toronto…of course she needs to go out and it’s not her fault she gets papped. But that wander down Kensington High Street was absolutely ridiculous and could have been entirely avoided.

(And, for balance, I find your apologetics every bit as tiresome. But, unlike you, I see no reason why every point of view cannot be shared. Markle wants to be talked about and I see no reason not to indulge her).

      • Tina says:

The royal family, as much as I have issues with some of the things they do, does not “strive to be” anything. They simply are. And any family that has accepted Sarah Ferguson, Sophie Rhys-Jones, Autumn Kelly and Mike Tindall into its ranks will not quibble at Meghan Markle.

      • DahliaDee says:

        @Moi, OK, Duchess Dolittle.

    • Olenna says:

Moi, why am I not surprised you’re here spewing this tired, defamatory sh*t on CB? Your Meghan hate thread got shut down elsewhere, so this is your default site? Let me say this: I gave Katie Bucket every benefit of the doubt before and after marriage until she proved she absolutely did not want to be a true working royal and her crass family started to hog the spotlight. Meghan is just dating Harry, but I’m giving her a chance, too. He’s old enough to decide for himself if she’s a keeper. Neither you nor I have a dog in the fight of who Harry dates or marries, but you apparently think it’s your mission to tear Meghan down, personally and professionally, and try to influence others’ opinions of her by, again, spewing this tired, defamatory sh*t here and wherever else you can post. Now, tell me again your being here, writing these dissertations of extreme bitterness and envy, is not due to racism or prejudice or a behavioral health issue.

    • Starlight says:

I suppose it’s no different to all those pap shots of Kate leaving the Mahiki club in London when she split with Wills and knowingly was ready for the camera when she did her makeup in the loo before facing them. Strange how they got tipped off she was having a night out at Mahiki? Then of course now, the paps get lambasted if they step out of line with a photograph. Today, Megs is sporting a H and M necklace – a few weeks ago Harry went into a rage over the press intrusion. Poor Press they are like a dog who wants a bone but are being teased by Megs then slapped when they should actually enjoy the bone.

    • notasugarhere says:

She is an actress who has agents like many others, social media accounts, and she does charity work too. She has a dual degree that includes international studies, she interned at an embassy, she has shown an interest in global affairs since she was 20. Obviously, she is the devil.

She wasn’t a guest of the royal family. She was staying in Harry’s 2-bedroom cottage. He is often seen shopping at the other grocery store that is five minutes from there. She shopped at the other one, so what? She knows what Whole Foods is, she doesn’t know Waitrose from Adam. Better she go out and do the shopping than they send one of his RPOs which 1) isn’t there job and 2) is what Kate Middleton does.

She has a career, one that she will continue if she and Harry break up. She cannot put her career on hold, including her social media accounts, for a relationship that may not last. If she did that, she’d get even more criticism for being the next Waity – doing nothing but sitting around waiting for a man to call.

You think she isn’t “fit for the role”? Because having a questionable off-shore business that uses child labour, a drug and human dealing Uncle, known ties to the paps, and a refusal to work for a decade made Kate Middleton “fit”?

Markle is educated. She works hard in a difficult industry, instead of sitting on her ass for a decade being supported by her parents. She does charity work, whether you like it or not. She understands PR, just like Sophie Wessex, and that isn’t going to hurt the BRF it will help it.

The UK press is definitely prejudiced, playing up the race card and the neighborhood where her mother lives. They fomented racist comments on their sites, and refused to moderate the discussions and delete racist comments until the Palace statement.

    • A says:

A lot of these points are just purely circumstantial though. You can’t prove that her IG posts were “intended” to be coy–that’s your reading into it. “All her pics were about her personally,”–well, yes that’s the nature of Instagram. That’s what celebs use it for, to promote themselves and their work. She had an Instagram account a long time before she met and began dating Harry, I don’t see why this is a big issue, unless ya’ll have someone sitting around trying to assess her posting frequency which is, well, there are a lot of words one can use to describe that, and none of them are nice. “Her humanitarian ‘acts’,” Lol, the whole Royal Family is one big humanitarian act. That’s how they continue to convince the public that they are worth the millions they get. If it bothers you so much that a lot of this stuff is performative, and if you can’t figure out how the fact that it’s performative is what helps make a difference, then, honestly, you can’t be helped.

That is some quality hooha for a 1700 mile detour.
