Margot Robbie & Tom Ackerley slipped away & got secretly married in Australia

Margot Robbie is, by all accounts, a rather low-key and down-to-earth sort of woman. While she was promoting several movies this year, those are the stories we kept hearing: that she’s the kind of person who will sleep on someone’s floor, that she goes backpacking through Europe for fun, that she’s not a high-maintenance princess. I sort of believe that. Another element to Margot’s down-to-earth vibe is her years-long relationship with Tom Ackerley, a British assistant-director. They don’t do red carpets together, but they’re not actively looking to dodge the paparazzi either. Anyway, there were rumors last year that Tom and Margot had gotten engaged. She never really breathed a word about it this year though. And now it seems like Margot and Tom just got secretly married in Australia!

Margot Robbie has married boyfriend Tom Ackerley at a secret location in Byron Bay. The 26-year old actress arrived home in a suggestive Say ‘I Do’ Down Under T-shirt last week at Gold Coast airport. The Daily Telegraph reported that she wed over the weekend.

Tipping the publication off, were pictures of her brother Cameron at their wedding party with four of her friends, and other images posted by Tom’s brother James. The article suggested James posted from a renowned wedding venue Harvest Newrybar in Byron Bay on Sunday. While other guests have kept a low profile on social media, the publication suggested a friend of the star, which they chose to not name, posted a secretive snap of an intimate beachside location set up for a wedding.

Having now tied the knot with her filmmaker partner of three years after being engaged earlier this year, the happy couple are yet to post their own snaps from the wedding. While The Sun have also reported on the union, suggesting Margot’s mother Sarie gave her away at the wedding, as she is estranged from her father Doug. Her other siblings Lachlan and Anya were assumed to also be in attendance, with her sister believed to be her maid of honour on the special day. Cameron, who flew back to Queensland on Saturday, was tagged in a photo at their wedding party with four of her friends.

I like this. Just slip away and get married on a pretty beach somewhere, with your family and maybe a handful of friends as witnesses. Margot is Australian, so I assume her family helped her put together the wedding, although it doesn’t sound like it was some big to-do. I hope Tom’s family and friends got to come out too!

Oh, and last week it was announced that Margot will be getting a stand-alone Harley Quinn movie from the same guy who directed her in Suicide Squad. The film will be called Gotham City Sirens.

I love her and think she’s a good actress and seems really cool – congrats if she did get married!

    • INeedANap says:

I read an interview with her where she talked about drinking beer in the shower if she was stressed. I’ve started doing that, and idk if it’s the taboo of drinking in the shower, or the hot/cold combo, but it works like a charm and I will be forever grateful to her. (I realize she did not invent this.)

Go On Girl! Get your private thing ON!

  3. vbv says:

I thought it was weird, thinking she was way too young to get married. Then I googled and she is actually 26, albeit looking like a 12 year old.

I guess it is ok. I bet she’ll get pregnant in a month.

    • Lipreng says:

I don’t think she looks under 25 or so..

    • mm says:

I always thought she looked 36!

      • Evie says:

I literally just said aloud, “I thought she was 36!” and then seconds later I saw this comment. No shade, I don’t think she looks bad by any means, she just looks a bit older to me.

      • kimbers says:

        Me2!

      • zxc says:

She has s mature type of beauty but doesn’t look old to me. Kinda like Kate Winslet, she looked 30-something at 20 but when she actually hit 30 or 35, she still looked the same.

    • QueenB says:

if she looks 12 how old do you think Selena Gomez and Emma Watson are?

    • Lala says:

Interesting, considering there are rumors that she lies about her age and is over 30.

      • SK says:

@Lala. Those rumors are not true. They come from an old article in Aus that mis-stated her age. They have since printed a retraction. There are photos of her from her high school yearbook that are dated. Friends from school who back her age up and are the same age. She is the age she claims to be. She just doesn’t have the baby-faced look we’ve become accustomed to in recent years (J-Law, Selena, etc).

    • JulP says:

I’ve always thought she looked much older than her age. She’s very beautiful, but has a mature look to her.

Anyhow, I’m a definitely a fan of hers – I think she’s a good actress and she seems really cool and down to earth. She also doesn’t give off a “try-hard” vibe, which I appreciate. Congrats if she did get married!

      • msd says:

She seems to have one of those faces that changes a lot with makeup. I’ve seen photos of her heavily made up where she looks mid 30’s, then with no makeup she looks about 19.

For some unknown reason, she has really grown on me. Not to say that I disliked her, but more that I started to notice her and grew to like her presence and how she comes off in interviews.

Congrats to her and many good wishes to her and her new husband.

That dress in the top photo had so much potential, and then it was ruined by a beige underskirt/under dress.

    • lucy2 says:

Me too, I’m finding myself liking her more and more.
Congrats to them and nicely done, keeping it so low key. Her career is really doing well, I like that she’s not using her personal life to promote it.

      • smcollins says:

I’ve been “following” her since she was on that show “Pan Am.” Christina Ricci was, I believe, supposed to be the star (even though it was an ensemble, but you know what I mean) but Margot was the real standout. I continue to be impressed with her choice of roles and her performances. Congrats to her and her new (super cute) husband…if it’s true, that is.

  5. Shambles says:

    *cries*

My biggest girl crush is off the market. I’m genuinely sad. But good for her.

And HELL YEAH for a standalone Harley Quinn movie! She was the best part of that train wreck they called suicide squad. I hope Jared Leto comes back as the Joker.

  6. Margo S. says:

So happy for her. She is very talented and seems really cool. Congrats!

  7. QueenB says:

“The 26-year old actress arrived home in a suggestive Say ‘I Do’ Down Under T-shirt last week at Gold Coast airport”
wasnt that for gay marriage in australia?

  8. Sarah says:

Contrats !! Her hubby is a lucky guy. She seems laid back and fun and she is soooooooo prettyyyyy !

  9. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Congrats, love her. She is a good actress who am sure will have a long career ahead of her.

  10. Bridget says:

I love that “secret” means ‘they didn’t put out a press release’. It’s pretty clear that the sources are actually just the reporter looking at whomever has a public Instagram account. Sounds like they had a wedding and simply treated it like normal people do.

  11. Lucy says:

I like this too! And Margot’s one of the good ones, that’s for sure.

  12. Lelo says:

Her husbands brother is a friend of a friend and apparently they have been married a while but kept it secret for fear of scuppering her career. This wedding was their coming out as a married couple now that she is somewhat established.

  13. Biting Panda says:

Love her. She is arresting, on screen.

My theory? The more low key the wedding, the more successful the marriage. Good for them.

    • msd says:

I like that he’s not an actor. We rarely hear about serious cast/crew relationships or marriages but they make sense to me. A behind the scenes person will understand the weird demands of show business but you won’t get the crazy attention of two actors being together. Win-win.

  14. Veronica says:

Oh, good. Maybe this will stop Vanity Fair from posting creepy articles about her from authors making it clear they’re DTF should she ever look their way.

  15. serena says:

Really? I thought her Harley Quinn quite sucked. I mean, beautiful, of course, but it was an empty-shell of a character not really the Harley I was expecting. So, I don’t really look forward to it.

  16. cynic says:

    Congrats to both of them.

  17. Danielle says:

I find her magnetic in every movie I have seen her in. I have a hard time taking my eyes off her.

  18. Jess says:

Congrats to them! She’s an okay actress and very beautiful, I’m sure she’ll have a great career for the next five years or so until she ages out of ingenue roles.

    • Annabelle says:

And then she`ll age into new roles, turning 30 doesn`t equal death u know.

      • Jess says:

Of course 30 doesn’t equal death! I just don’t think she’ll be able to make the transition, she’s not a good enough actress.

  19. Rina says:

    Congratulations to them!
