Presenter Drew Barrymore was at the Globes last night in an incredible silver and white Monique Lhullier gown with a deep v-neck, open shoulders, and wide sleeves that resembled wings. Many people on Twitter were calling this a bird dress and that’s really what it looks like. I love it but her makeup is kind of ruining it for me. I tweeted and deleted a message about how I learned in eighth grade not to put mascara on your bottom lashes, because at that point I saw Carrie Underwood’s makeup and realized that wasn’t the issue. Drew’s makeup is just clownish and overdone, but there are other women who wear just as much but manage to blend and make it work. Not Drew, who owns her own makeup brand, Flower Beauty.
The trailer for Drew’s new Netflix show about (mild spoiler) zombies or cannibals I guess, Santa Clarita Diet, aired last night as a fake diet ad. “I satisfy all my cravings and eat whoever I want.” I’ll watch the first episode when it’s out on February 3, which is a Friday I just checked. Guess I should block off that weekend ahead of time.
Mandy Moore was in a black Naeem Khan gown with a long flowing skirt, a deep v-neck and a sheer cape. I thought capes were on the way out but she’s proving otherwise. Somehow this very simple black dress looks perfect and so classy. Normally I cringe at such open gowns, I dislike this trend and we saw a lot of it at the Globes, but it works on this gown.
Gina Rodriguez had on a silver fringe Naeem Khan dress which wasn’t as stunning as it should be, I think. The entire effect is rather showgirl. Gina was nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, which went to Tracee Ellis Ross. Gina won the Globe in this category last year.
Caitriona Balfe of Outlander slayed in this blue and crimson Delpozo gown featuring a flower brooch at the empire waist. This is also different than just about every gown we saw last night, and it’s incredible. Look at how lovely this is with the folds along the sides and waist. Caitriona was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama category, which went to Claire Foy for The Crown.

All of you guys know that Gina is my girl and I will stan her no matter what. I wish JTV was recognized more, especially Jaime Camil. Caitriona Balfe was one of my absolute favorites on the RC last night. Gorgeous dress. Loooove the colors.
That’s exactly how I feel about Gina! She looks amazing no matter what. It’s about her attitude and her general awesomeness.
Me too! Want all the awards for JTV!
I’m a big fan of Gina Rodriguez, I think she’s a ray of sunshine. Also, I think I could watch a weekly episode of JTV for the rest of my life.
Oh my God, yes! A weekly episode of Jane the Virgin for the rest of my life would be AWESOME!
Love JTV , Gina and especially Jaime Camil. Why is this guy not in everything and winning every award?? He is so freaking handsome and hilarious and just amazing. 🙂
I thought Catriona’s dress was reminiscent of what Nicole Kidman used to be.
I kind of get what Drew Barrymore was doing with her make up, a 1970s disco diva look, so I actually quite like it, especially with the also disco-diva-esque dress.
Is Catriona Balfe’s hair naturally lighter than the dark color she has now? Her eyebrows look like they belong to a natural redhead or blonde and always throw me off in a “one of these things is not like the other” way. I do like the dress, but not so much on her. It looks like it’s swamping her or, in cliche fashion police speak, like the dress is wearing her and not that she’s wearing the dress. Maybe it looked better in motion.
I know what you mean about drew barrymore. Gina and Drews outfits are my two favorite so far. The color contrast and detail on Ginas is beautiful. I like the fact that drew went a little more costume-y and skipped the prom theme.
Nothing wrong with mascara on your lower Lashes. Clinique even makes one specifically for that. I think Drew may have had false lashes on her lower lash line, which never looks good unless done for the stage. I saw another picture of her closeup and they looked too long to be real.
Also her bronzer on her forehead needs to be blended into her hairline more, because I just see a stripe of brown going across. From far away she was cute. Close up, needed better makeup skills. Didn’t hate her dress, which I’m shocked to say. It was the only plunging cut of the night that seemed to work.
I am not a fan of any of these looks!!!
Drew’s make-up and hair don’t flatter her at all. She looks old and tired (I know she’s had a tough year with the divorce). She should have put her hair up and lightened that eye make-up.
Gina is a gorgeous girl but that dress doesn’t flatter her figure. She’s voluptuous and the top of the dress is flattening her breasts. She needs a new stylist.
Drew has looked consistently “worn out” for the past year or so :/ And for some reason, mostly in distance pictures, it looks like someone has smudged her eyebrows. She needs to get her brows fixed up, they look too “undone”.
Gina has the most beautiful face, but that dress just isn’t doing it for me.
I do like Catriona’s dress, but not her styling. Mandy Moore looks the best of the group imho.
Bunch of fugly dresses
I do like Mandy’s dress.
And I cannot wait for the post featuring Gael and Diego to go up ♡♡♡♡♡
Also, you can tell Caitriona was a high fashion model – boy does she know how to wear her dresses!
I don’t want any of these. The one Drew is wearing would normally get a big no for me, but for her it kind of works
Caitriona — wowww!! Love her styling. The makeup is so simple and flattering. Same with her accessories. I don’t agree that the dress flattens her breast, as Elizabeth said; I think that’s just the camera angle.
I think Blake could learn a thing or two from her. Her dress, makeup, and accessories were so overkill.. and in every picture she had her hands near the pockets. So weird.
Why does Drew’s hair always look like crap? I have the urge to paddle brush her hair and pull it into a ponytail.
I thought Drew looked great on tv- the lower eye mascara was too heavy but it def felt like a classic Drew “trying something” moment. She doesn’t get it right all the time but she isn’t afraid to put it out there which I admire.
Wow, Caitriona Balfe´s dress is amazing!
Love, love, love Catriona’s dress. Drew’s looking good but I’m not a fan of her dress.
Drew, when a dress makes you look “wide” and you’re not, you have to know that’s not your dress. But, from the neck up, she’s gorgeous.
I like all of these gowns, actually (and stylings aside). Also, why is no one talking about Drew presenting next to Mr. Olyphantastic??
I don’t remember Drew being flat chested. Or is it the dress? She looks beautiful from the neck up…but that dress is fug.
“Gina won the Globe in this category last year.”
Another post mentions that Rachel Bloom won two years ago. But it’s the other way around; Gina won two years ago and Rachel won last year.
Rachel Bloom won the Actress in a tv comedy last year for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Gina Rodriguez one the year before that.
Drew’s dress is reflective of her style and personality, so I think it works for her. I think Mandy is just lovely in this. The dress and jewelry are both classic, elegant. Gina’s dress is a bit showgirl for me, as CB pointed out. I can’t unsee it.
Catriona just looks gorgeous. I love her dress. She and Ruth Negga are my top picks for the night. EVR looked amazing too.
