Carrie Prejean’s mom had a girlfriend earlier this year

Miss California Carrie Prejean may have had a much more personal reason for embracing the role as a public spokesperson against same sex marriage. We heard earlier this month that both of Carrie’s parents made “gay allegations” in their divorce, which goes way back to 1988. Now a woman has admitted to having a relationship with Carrie’s mom just “a few weeks” before the Carrioe made that controversial statement against gay marriage during the Miss USA pageant. Did Carrie know that her mom was gay? She did say in another appearance that “My beliefs have nothing to do with my sister or my mom, or whatever.”

That Miss California crown may be still firmly affixed to her head, but controversy won’t stop swirling around Carrie Prejean and her family.

That Miss Cailfornia USA crownmay be firmly affixed to her head, but controversy won’t stop swirling…
Valerie Vetrano, an openly gay sales rep from Corona, Calif., claims she had a lesbian relationship with Prejean’s mom, Francine Coppola.

“I did date her,” she told ABCNews.com Wednesday evening. “I’m not going to deny it, but I’m not going to say anything else.”

Vetrano, whose connection to Coppola was first reported by Star magazine, declined to comment on how long their relationship lasted but confirmed it ended “a couple weeks before Carrie Prejean was in the Miss USA competition.”

According to an unnamed friend quoted by Star, Coppola’s family knew nothing of her affair, although during her 1996 divorce from the beauty queen’s father, Wil Prejean, both parties made gay allegations against the other.

ABCNews.com’s attempts to reach Coppola and Vetrano for comment were unsuccessful Wednesday evening. Prejean declined to comment through her representatives.

Remember what Carrie said in answer to Perez Hilton’s question? She said “In my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.” It then came out that her sister was an advocate for gay rights, although both Carrie and her grandmother denied that the sister was gay.

Then we heard all these mean anti-gay comments from Carrie’s grandmother like “I don’t know why that gay guy Perez was even judging a contest with a bunch of girls… He should be judging a Chippendale’s contest.” Her grandmother also denied that Carrie’s sister was gay, saying “[Carrie’s sister] just has her own mindset. But she’s not gay, we just feel sorry for them.” Do you think the Grandmother knows that her daughter is gay? There are obviously a lot of issues in Carrie’s family, and homosexuality must be a touchy subject considering that her mom has had relationships with women while her grandmother thinks that’s something to be pitied.

Star Magazine has more details about the relationship, including photos of Carrie’s mom out at a gay bar and supposed insider information that Carrie’s mom broke off the relationship because “her loved ones would never accept her if she were gay.” Carrie’s mom also thought her daughter was unaware that she was in a same sex relationship.

I agree with many of you that Carrie absolutely had the right to state her opinion, even though it’s one I don’t share at all. I think she was well spoken in her first follow-up appearance on The Today Show, and if she would have left it at that this controversy would have died down. She then went on to become an advocate for an anti gay rights organization and to make multiple media appearances without contacting pageant organizers at all. Of course Donald Trump allowed her to keep her crown, but she violated her contract on several counts. To me it wasn’t about her opinion in the end, it was about how she kept pushing her agenda and didn’t stay within the boundaries of the Miss California guidelines. Unfortunately by putting herself out there again and again she’s also brought her family under scrutiny.

aww, she is such a victim. the gays came and kidnapped her parents, and the wind exposed her nipple! poor poor carrie prejean.

  2. Darya says:

She had a right to express her opinion but the representation part becomes a problem. She seems arrogant also, a difficult trait to hide completely.

  3. Candi says:

Carrie Prejean is an uneducated, ignorant twit.

Not much more to say, other than it’s not her place to judge people on how they live, and that includes her mother.

  4. jess says:

    *lol* @ Lori. right on.

  5. (The Original) Blondie says:

This situation is just so stupid. And I hate that it’s turned into a gay/straight issue. Her answer was inarticulate, she sounded like an idiot…that’s why she lost. Donald Trump only let her keep her (runner up) crown because she’s a cute blonde with big plastic boobs.

  6. Bob says:

She has the same position on gay marriage that President Obama does. Is he an ignorant bitch too? Does he need to be attacked and destroyed for daring to express his opinion?

Or do we need to grow up a little and accept that there are differences of opinion on virtually everything. Have fun expecting the entire world to agree with you at all times. It’s not going to happen.

  7. Michelle says:

This is all so backward and stupid. There’s really nothing else to say about the situation anymore.

However I’d like to personally extend a big thank you to Carrie Prejean for setting humanity back about a thousand years. Way to go, genius.

  8. Iggles says:

Bob, I agree. It’s a say day when those on the left who preach tolerance do not practice it. Calling someone a bigot won’t get them to change their opinions.

  9. Michelle says:

    Re: Bob, Iggles:

Why are you making it a political issue when Ms. Prejean herself stated that it is a religious issue?

Religion and politics do not mix. We have the first amendment protecting the separation of church and state; without such we’d end up with out own home version of the Fatah-Hamas conflict. Furthermore, no one said Prejean or people who agree with her aren’t entitled to their opinion. Disagreeing with someone doesn’t equate an insult or attack.

I find your comments irrelevant and skewed. I’m not trying to be a jerk or attack you or anything, I just don’t understand your point of view.

  10. Codzilla says:

    Christ, here we go again.

  11. Iggles says:

Michelle, like everyone else I read the post. But I was responding to one of the comments that I agreed with.

Bob’s comment did not come out of nowhere. Candi said the following:

“Carrie Prejean is an uneducated, ignorant twit.”

  12. Rosanna says:

Now you all stop and think: what does CP’s mom’s sex orientation has to do with CP’s opinion? Most people have opinions of their own, and are perfectly able to have opinions which differ from the ones that their families have. Or do you all agree with what your parents do in bed???

What does her belief about gay marriage has to do with her being inarticulate? *Most* beauty pageant contestants are inarticulate!!!!

Stop framing CP as an inept because of her being anti gay marriage. She might very well be a dumb blond but that has nothing to do with her political opinion. *Most* beauty pageant contestants are dumb!!!! You are so vicious toward this girl it borders with discrimination.

I hope you get the same treatment because *your* religious/political views. Then, when you’ll be in their shoes, you’ll understand (I HOPE).

  13. daisy424 says:

Agree Cozilla, **stirring the pot of hate**

Michelle, exactly how has this irrelevant person “…setting humanity back about a thousand years”?

If her opinions are backward and stupid, why would you give her that power, why would it matter?

  14. DD says:

So she was raised to believe that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. Her mother and sister are possibly gay… I guess that she was really raised to believe that marriage is a sham between a man and a woman, since her parent’s marriage was just that.

  15. Michelle says:

My apologies to Bob; I admittedly forgot and didn’t take into consideration Candi’s comment (I agree that it was a bit snide and that name-calling is indeed counterproductive to proving one’s point)

But my comment to you was in regards to the “It’s a say day when those on the left who preach tolerance do not practice it” part. I must have misinterpreted what you meant, and I meant no offense. I guess I just needed you to clarify 🙂

  16. Michelle says:

Because some people are listening to her and taking some of the ignorant mistruths and hypocrisy she’s selling as the gospel truth, daisy. If she had any valid logic that could actually hold water, I wouldn’t care as much. But the disinformation she represents is actually detrimental to securing rights for all U.S. citizens. Gay people pay taxes, vote, work and contribute to society just like everyone else. They prepare and serve your meals, drive your buses, fly your planes, work in your stores, drive your ambulances. They are the same as anyone else. So why not be granted the same rights as the rest of the population?

If someone is gay, does that make them any less of a human being? Of course not.

I stand by my comment about it setting back humanity. Not allowing equality to certain demographics is detrimental to society as a whole.

  17. gg says:

I agree with Michelle above, except I just don’t think anybody’s paying too much attention to what this lady says anymore. Anybody in her camp would have already had a tent firmly there long before she came up the pike.

And Blonde, stop exaggerating – her answer was in no way “completely inarticulate” – she was quite clear and final on the subject, and obviously nobody had any trouble hearing it.

Whether you agree with CP or not, making up bull$4!t, like Perez, has not helped his side of the fence at all. In fact, he’s making himself and his platforms look stupider with every rant.

I guess I’m really tired of this little non-drama.

  18. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Anyone defending this twit needs to look up the definition of the word “hypocrisy.”

And she’s looking very much like a tranny in those pictures. Man jaw.

  19. Zoe (The Other One) says:

Are we STILL talking about this nobody and her crackpot ideals? Sheesh…

Chuckled at the trannie comment. Bang on.

  20. HashBrowns says:

Her 15 minutes are soooo up.

Bob, quit trying to spread misinformation.

Obama doesn’t believe in gay marriage but he wouldn’t stop gays from getting the right to marry. That is the key. He does NOT believe that religion and politics mix and does NOT believe that his personal religious beliefs should be made into law. That is why he isn’t an “ignorant bitch”.

  21. Dingles says:

The state of California should be embarrassed.

  22. ARghARgh says:

    Re: Michelle…

The 1st amendment does little to separate church & state…especially clear in the gay marriage debate where politicians are blatantly voting based on their own beliefs or on those beliefs thought to bring in the votes.

  23. Annie says:

Obama doesn’t believe in gay marriage but he wouldn’t stop gays from getting the right to marry. That is the key. He does NOT believe that religion and politics mix and does NOT believe that his personal religious beliefs should be made into law. That is why he isn’t an “ignorant bitch”.

Oh Hashbrowns, I’ve tried explaining that on many threads already and really it gets no where, which is a shame. Mostly they’ll turn around and call you a hypocrite or something.

Either way. Maybe I’ll go up to Carrie and inform her that “I’ll pray for her”. 😉

And Michelle. Well said. 🙂 I’ll say this though, only thing I can’t stand? All the hot boys end up gay. 🙁 LOL

  24. HashBrowns says:

*sigh* It is kinda sad Annie…but I guess I do it just for the casual reader who will look at Bob’s comment and take it for the truth. I need for accurate information to be out there is all, regardless of whether or not Bob actually reads and takes it on board.

All the hot guys are gay, aren’t they? I totally lusted after this guy I was lighting in a play then on the last day of the show the stage manager tells me he’s gay. I didn’t want to believe her so I chatted with him at the after party. *Sigh* Wonderful guy…just not interested at all in my lady parts.

  25. k. says:

recently i’ve seen photos from transsexual beauty contest and the winner looked much much better than she… and now there is another proof that she’s hypocrite. sad

  26. anjasmomma says:

She is supposed to be a role model! To whom? Not my daughter. I also agree that she is an uneducated, ignorant twit.

  27. Wresa says:

ohhh maaan, I SO thought I would never have to read about her again. Bummer. (Since, you know, someone forced me to click on the headline.)

  28. happy says:

I’ve known Carrie since she was a little girl. She has such a warm and loving heart. She lights up a room and I’ve never heard her say anything mean about anyone. My family loves her and she is a joy! I guess we can thank
Mr. Hilton to some degree for making our Carrie so famous! She is a beautiful person!

  29. DiMi says:

I’m a Californian, and I don’t want this woman representing my state. She’s an annoying homophobe. Her fifteen minutes needs to end now.
