There’s another chapter in the years-long battle between Angelina Jolie and Madonna. Interview evidence suggests this stuff started in 2006, when Madonna gave a really bitchy interview to Time about her adoption of David Banda. A reporter had asked Madonna if she was “jumping on a bandwagon” by adopting David. Madonna said, “Look, I could have joined the U.N. and become an ambassador and visited various countries and just kind of showed up and smiled and looked concerned. But that’s not getting to the root of the problem – and by the way, neither is building orphan care centers and giving people food and medicine… I’m not interested in going in there like a dilettante and being an idiot and going ‘Ok, I’m going to build 10 orphanages and I’ll see you guys later!’”

A few months later, Angelina responded to Madonna while doing an interview with a French magazine, “I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal,” Angelina said, but added that she’s “been horrified by the attacks [Madonna’s] been subjected to [for adopting Davie].” Angelina never spoke out about Madonna’s most recent adoption escapade, keeping silent about all of the drama regarding Madonna’s failed adoption of Mercy James.

Stuff has been testy between the two ever since. From appearances, it seems like Angelina has spent the past few years completely ignoring Madonna’s existence, while Madonna laps up media comparisons between herself and Angelina, probably imagining that she and Angelina are on the same humanitarian/motherly plane of existence. I should mention that Madonna can give as many bitchy, self-serving interviews she wants, but there are still very serious questions about the finances of her charity, Raising Malawi. At first, Madonna drew criticism because the charity seemed like some kind of money-laundering front for Kabbalah-related activities. The latest evidence suggests that Raising Malawi isn’t even registered as a charity, so all of the millions of dollars being raising is completely in the wind.

Now Us Weekly and In Touch both have variations on the latest Madonna-Angelina saga. Us Weekly’s piece is basically what Angelina thinks of Madge (not much), but it does include one of the funniest denials ever from Madge’s rep:

Angelina Jolie has no mercy for Madonna! A source close to the actress tells Hot Stuff that Jolie, 33, has told friends privately that she’s infuriated by the Material Girl’s adoption efforts in Malawi.

“Angelina thinks Madonna is a blatant copycat and that she’s coming from the wrong place,” says the insider of Jolie.

“Angie sees what she and Brad do as being about saving a child, but she thinks Madonna does it for publicity.”

And adopting kids isn’t the only thing Jolie thinks Madonna has done for fame: She’s told pals she believes Madge has dabbled in lesbianism “for attention and press,” whereas Jolie got involved with Jenny Shimizu at a “confused” time in her life.

Says the source, “Angie’s appalled at even being mentioned in the same breath as her.”

Asked about Jolie resenting Madge, Jolie’s rep tells Us, “This is absolutely not true,” and Madonna’s rep says, “I can’t imagine Angelina said this! More media attention would be the last thing that would be an incentive for Madonna.”

Because we’ve never met you, we’ve never seen your media shenanigans played out on every tabloid and newspaper, no, you would never do anything to get press. Someone give Madonna’s rep a clue, I think the jig is up.

Anyway, In Touch’s cover story this week is another Bermuda Triangle story, all about Brad sexting Aniston. The story is extensive, with lots of hilarious pictures of Brad “looking over his shoulder” to see if Angelina is watching him sext Aniston, I suppose. They also have several little mini-stories about how Angie and Brad are growing apart, and all of the “evidence” that proves it. One of the stories is about how Angelina’s pissed that Brad was partying with her “nemesis” Madonna:

Brad likes to escape his unhappy home with solo trips to a local pizza parlor and nights out drinking at parties. On April 30, Brad went to photographer Steven Klein’s birthday party in New York and hung out with Angelina’s nemesis Madonna.

“He got drunk on margaritas,” a witness tells In Touch.

Madonna and Angelina’s friendship has been icy ever since Angie criticized Madonna’s adoption of son David from Malawi in 2007. “I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal,” Angelina told Gala magazine.

Ah, you see? For In Touch, it’s all Angelina’s fault. Because that’s how they roll. Just one more point, about the whole lesbianism thing from Us Weekly – who are either of them kidding? Madonna was playing with the public (for show?) lesbianism angle before Angelina even talked publicly about her lesbian relations. To many, they were both doing it for attention.
