Justin Timberlake thinks ‘Frank Ocean had the real Album of the Year’

89th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Justin Timberlake’s try-hard mug was all over the Oscars and ever since that night, I’ve been actively trying to forget that he ever happened. Timberlake was nominated for an Oscar and he lost. He did not lose to Lin-Manuel Miranda – he lost to the songwriters from La La Land. Still, a loss is a loss and it probably hurt a little bit. So the poor baby is lashing out! That’s how I’m choosing to interpret this. Justin’s stupid “Can’t Stop the Feeling” was only nominated for one Grammy – which it won, surprisingly – but Justin did not even attend the Grammys. Was he preemptively protesting the dominance of Adele and Beyonce? Was he suddenly too big and important for the Grammys, considering the Academy Awards let him OPEN THE SHOW? Or was Justin mad that Frank Ocean wasn’t nominated for Best Album? Guess what Justin says.

The #NotFakeNews made my eye twitch. It’s like a really stupid dad joke only Justin just sounds like he’s a Trump supporter (or at the very least, a Trump sympathizer). As for Frank Ocean’s Blonde being the REAL Album of the Year… Frank would disagree. Frank wrote a scathing Tumblr post before the Grammys about why these awards don’t matter to him and calling out the Grammys in particular for being full of sh-t for giving Taylor Swift the AOTY award and not Kendrick Lamar. Frank Ocean practices what he preaches (unlike JT).

As for what goes unsaid… so, Justin didn’t think Adele deserved AOTY. Fine. Adele didn’t think she deserved it either. But why not say that Lemonade was clearly AOTY? What does Justin have against Beyonce?

Or maybe, he honestly thought that Frank Ocean deserved to win and it had nothing to do with Beyonce at all?

I don’t get why he has to have something against Beyonce. Unless, the only reason this is being written about is to suggest that he doesn’t like Beyonce to piss people off.

    • Guest says:

You wrote what I was thinking

      • Louise177 says:

The same. A lot of people think Frank had the best album. Doesn’t mean they hate Beyonce or Adele.

    • Nicole says:

Same here. It’s not always about Beyoncé and I’m a huge fan of hers. Frank Ocean did have one of the best albums that dropped last year and lyrically and entire package I like it better than Lemonade as well.

    • Celest says:

Justin is entitled to his opinion and I have seen him in social situations with Beyonce, they are cool.. But I think there is something to be said here about how men receive music from female artists whether thats Adele or Beyonce. Its often not seen as cerebral or artistic and theres a problem there. Female artists are also more likely to be dismissively categorised as pop as though its a bad thing to have mass appeal or have majority female fans.

Having said that, I liked some of the stuff on Blonde but I am not going to lie and say we didnt skip a bunch of songs. Personally I was pissed that he made us wait so long for it, didnt feel worth it to me. In the end, we all receive music differently. Frank Ocean winning would have been as contentious as either of the two women winning. Perhaps even more controversial because so few people have even heard one single off it.

      • Nik says:

        @ Celest

        Agree.

Also that tweet was more of a dig to Adele/the Grammy’s than Beyoncé.

    • Adriana says:

My thoughts exactly. I personally much prefer Blonde over Lemonade. I have nothing against Beyonce but I just love Blonde.

      • Alondra says:

It’s a reach. Period point blank.
Everyone here generally dislikes Justin and because she wanted to write a story feeding off of that, she projected some bullshit onto Justin.
        Is Justin, a thristy jerk?
Yes, but is he in anyway trying to down or say anything about Beyonce? NO.
I’m all for a good shit talk session about JT but only when he deserves it.

  2. Eggyweggs says:

Like Justin Timberlake, Frank Ocean has two lips and a tongue and can speak for himself. Unlike JT, Frank Ocean chooses to largely play outside of the system and I hope other artists follow suit. I also hope Frank tells JT to keep his name out of his mealy mouth. “Pink and White” is one of the most gorgeous songs ever and we don’t need JT’s confirmation on that.

    • QQ says:

HERE! HERE is My Cosign… like JT is a good Taste Arbiter GTFO ( I’m going through a Siegfried-Skyline to- White Ferrari- Ivy phase.. Like daily)

  3. Erinn says:

I hate when artists do this sort of thing. There’s better ways to say it that doesn’t undercut other peoples’ work.

Awards shows are mostly just BS popularity contests judged by a bunch of people who don’t seem to even be that up on things.

But Justin is the kind of person who just NEEDS attention, and will name-tag someone else to get it.

    • Whyme says:

      THIS!!!^^^^^^^^

    • Adriana says:

I actually agree. I prefer Blonde over Lemonade too but he could’ve said Blonde was his favourite album of the year without being shady. But then again he wouldn’t have had his post on celebitchy. It’s sad but stars love trolling to get attention.

  4. Nev says:

    Who asked him?!!!!!
    Shut up trick.

  5. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Urgh this twit will do anything for attention! He has one of those faces that if i slapped it once I wouldn’t stop.

    • NeoCleo says:

We could take turns! I’ll stand on one side you can stand on the other and swing away!

  6. ElleBee says:

Mr. Culture Vulture is pandering to black people I see. Have a stadium full of seats

  7. LolaBones says:

Eh, I thought the tweet was in jest. Not to be taken that seriously.

  9. Kreist says:

I mean that last paragraph is lame. I am the first one to criticize JT but for all I know he can think I deserved album of the year, and it would be just an opinion, HIS.

Not everyone has to bow down with what we admire.

    Respect

  10. Jeesie says:

How is that a dig against Beyoncé?

The Grammy’s are just like the Oscars, every year incredible albums don’t even come close to getting a nomination. It’s not like the only possible personal choices for best album of the year are those that get nominated.

I think The Handmaiden was the best film of ’16, by quite a margin. Next for me would be Paterson, Things to Come, Only Yesterday, The Nice Guys, Under The Shadow, 13th, The Lobster and Toni Erdmaan. Me saying that doesn’t mean I have anything against Moonlight or another nominated film, Arrival for instance. It’s just that they’re not my own personal films of the year.

JT is annoying douche, but he’s allowed to talk about his favourite albums. It’s not he’s reaching to not say Beyoncé either, Blonde topped a hell of a lot best album lists last year and before Ocean opted out of the Grammy’s it was expected to be a very strong contender.

  11. Kaye says:

Sit down, JT. In fact, have several seats.

  12. Kimberly Avery says:

I’m so tired of the mean spirited articles that is being posted about Justin Timberlake. I know if you don’t like it I don’t have to read it. Here’s the deal, some may not like JT but obviously someone does. He has not only been nominated but won several awards. Seems like everyone is welcomed to their opinions but him. I’m a fan of his but that doesn’t make me ignorant that he’s not perfect.
I guess I’m just so frustrated with the “Let’s love, accept and not bully each other” it’s more selective to whom this applies. I was so excited to ses the Oscars open the show with something fun and to see everyone having a great time. I wonder what would happen if for just ONE day only positive thing’s were said or written about anyone or anything. That would truly be an incredible day.

  13. starkiller says:

Never thought I’d see the day I’d be in agreement with Justin Timberlake.

  14. Amaria says:

Hey, Justin, Oscars are over! You can calm down now.

I can’t stand the guy. Life with him under one roof must be exhausting. Even when he says neutral things, I sense his craving for attention and the extra-ness. Ugh.

  15. ValiantlyVarnished says:

Everytime I see his face it puts me in a bad moon. I’m just glad that crappy song he wrote (if you can call a song with only a chorus writing) didn’t win. No one cares what you think JT. Your relevance has long been expired.
