Ivanka Trump’s new federal-employee title is ‘Assistant to the President’

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos Discusses Importance Of STEM Education

Last week, we learned that Precious Ivanka Trump would be joining her father’s Bigly Administration as some sort of special (“precious” if you will) adviser. She has gotten a West Wing office, a security clearance and a government-issued phone. One of the big problems was that Ivanka would not be considered a federal employee because she was not being paid. Except that’s not the way it works. She has not cut ties with her businesses and she has ethical violations all over the place. So… surprise, I guess. Now Ivanka is being considered a federal employee (she’s still not being paid) and she has a gaudy new title to go with her official position. She’s also “volunteering” to comply with federal ethics guidelines.

Ivanka Trump will become a federal employee after her plans to serve as an informal adviser with a West Wing office drew criticism.

The New York Times, which first broke the news Wednesday, reported that President Trump’s daughter will have the title “Assistant to the President.” Like her husband, Jared Kushner, who is a senior adviser to Trump, she will forego a salary.

“We are pleased that Ivanka Trump has chosen to take this step in her unprecedented role as First Daughter and in support of the President,” the White House said in a statement. “Ivanka’s service as an unpaid employee furthers our commitment to ethics, transparency, and compliance and affords her increased opportunities to lead initiatives driving real policy benefits for the American public that would not have been available to her previously.”

In a statement to the Times, Ivanka Trump said she will follow all White House rules.

“I have heard the concerns some have with my advising the president in my personal capacity while voluntarily complying with all ethics rules and I will instead serve as an unpaid employee in the White House Office, subject to all of the same rules as other federal employees,” she said.

The announcement comes after the First Daughter was criticized for joining the White House in an unofficial capacity. On Wednesday, two Democratic Senators sent a letter to the White House Ethics Office asking how she would comply with ethics rules given her unspecified role.

[From People]

Again, federal employees don’t get to voluntarily comply with ethics rules. You’re not voluntarily complying with drunk-driving laws. You’re not voluntarily complying with arson laws. Not setting a fire isn’t “voluntary.” Not getting behind the wheel of your car while sh-tfaced isn’t a choice. If you do not follow the laws, you will go to jail. I hope Precious Ivanka knows that.

Meanwhile, I still think this whole “get Precious Ivanka a West Wing office” thing is Bigly Trump’s way of letting everyone know that Ivanka is more precious to him than his wife. Melania is headed to the White House in June. Precious Ivanka must have a better office than Melania! And Precious Ivanka must wear better clothes too!

He’s just transferred the family business to a new address.

    • cr says:

Yep. So much for draining the swamp.

      • Beth says:

Filling the swamp with the sneaky, slimey snakes of the Trump family

      • ichsi says:

@beth that’s an insult to snakes. He fills it with his disgusting progeny like some disease carrying mosquito. Which, thinking on it, totally is an insult to any disease carrying mosquito.

      • Raina says:

He’s probably just trying to drain her swamp. Ugh. Couldn’t help myself.

    • vauvert says:

Yep. And getting bigly profits by forcing government departments to pay him directly – for golf car rentals, Mar-a-Lago fees, Trump tower rent and indirectly – having Conwoman go on TV to advertise Princess Ivanka’s made in China cr*p, breaking every rule with zero consequence. He also has Usay and the slow one fly around the world with SS guarding them to drive home the point that they are the president’s sons and there to strike bigly deals… it turns your stomach. Only “poor” Malaria had to file a suit since she was “unjustly” maligned and lost opportunities to cash in… I guess Putn didn’t pay him enough.

      • Pumpkin Pie says:

Why is he allowed to do that? Because there is no precedent in US history??

      • Kitten says:

Why is he allowed to do ANY of this??? Seriously, I ask myself this question every f*cking day. WHY is he allowed to get away with everything short of murder???

Because the GOP and his supporters let it happen! They don’t contest it, they accept and enable it. It’s disgusting and I hate all of these people with every fiber of my body.

      • SusanneToo says:

@Kitten. He should try shooting someone on 5th Avenue and see if his 37% sticks with him. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do.

      • Imqrious2 says:

“…Usay and the slow one …”. OMG I burst out laughing at that one, spraying my coffee all over! YOu get a standing ovation from me!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😂😂😂😂😂 THAT is a PERFECT description of those two Neanderthals.

      • swak says:

@SusanneToo, read today that his rating is down to 35% (not sure where).

    • EM says:

True but what is most frightening about this appointment is that this is the most senior position a civilian can have. I read her clearance is now as high as McMaster!

    • mar_time says:

      Dwight: Assistant President
      Jim: Assistant to the President

Except Trump lacks any and all charm that Michael Scott had…instead we live dreading what seriously dangerous situation he’s going to put this country and our people in next. Ugh

    • Pandy says:

Right? That’s all that’s happening there. Who knew you not only elected a President, but got a full family inserting themselves and their businesses and their security costs – for free!! Wow, lucky, lucky, you!!!

    • Miko says:

These Trumps are disgusting and I think during the Primaries the RNC spoke about wanting to run her for some State office eventually and this position is part of that plan in later claiming she has White House experience, if she ever runs for anything……Lord Help US.
I seriously hope we are holding IMPEACHMENT hearings by the Summer. Trump is crooked as hell and Hillary was right, Putin wanted a Puppet.

    • Miko says:

Question: Do you think Donald Trump would have been a different person had he stayed with Ivana? Ivana The first wife, seemed smart and classy. I’m just curious what people think?

      • Christin says:

He might have been only slightly different. According to one of his longtime (female) managers, he was slightly more controlled when his parents (particularly his mother) were living.

      • Tata says:

have you not heard the story Ivana recorded under oath during her divorce proceedings? She said something about Trump’s hair and in retaliation and anger he pulled hers out and forced himself on her. Google it.

He is a monster. Ivana declined to press charges so she could receive her divorce settlement.

    • sarah says:

Ivanka Trump? Not elected. Jared Kushner? Not elected. And yes, Trump lets them have all of this power, more than his own actual political advisors.

Get a big powerful job based on being related to El Presidente? Have the president make his family members more powerful than elected officials? Sounds like a dictatorship to me. SAD!

(note : some sarcasm but not really a lot)

  2. Tate says:

When the shit hits the fan, I hope the whole lot of them goes down. Dirty grifters.

    • Alix says:

      ^^^THIS^^^

    • D says:

This might be a stupid question, but I’m not American so I’m not familiar with the laws regarding this. What would happen if shit were to hit the fan, if the Trumps go down. Who would become President?

      • SusanneToo says:

VP pence, then Speaker of the House ryan. It’s an uncommonly sh1tty lineup.

      • susie says:

VP takes over: Mike Pence. Then the speaker of the house, Paul Ryan. And based on their records, I don’t know if either one would be better

      • D says:

        Thanks!

      • Jessica says:

I hate his policies, but at least Pence is not going to start WWIII.

      • Lightpurple says:

Ryan only comes into play if Trump and Pence go out simultaneously before either has the opportunity to name a new VP. Agnew resigned. Nixon resigned. Speaker Albert did not become president. Instead, Nixon appointed Ford to replace Agnew. Congress approved Ford’s appointment. Nixon resigned. Ford appointed Rockefeller as the new VP

      • littlemissnaughty says:

Jessica, it’s crazy that it’s come down to “at least no war”. I agree though. At this point. And at least Pence knows how government works. Christ.

      • Imqrious2 says:

UNLESS Pence and or Ryan are criminally indicted as having knowledge and or involvement in this Russian scandal. Then it goes to Tillerson!!!! 😱😲😵

      • Lightpurple says:

@imquirious, Orrin Hatch comes before Tillerson in the succession line.

But again, it is unlikely they would all go out at the same time without new appointees being put in place, as happened during the Nixon years.

      • AnnaKist says:

Wow, it’s such a complicated process! In 2015, we had a situation where our Prime Minister was seen not to be performing. The party room was very disgruntled (and had been for some time), the polls were consistently horrendous and, no joke, he had become a joke. He had been PM for just under two years, but his own people decided he simply had to go. A couple of people put their hands up for the job, there was a spill, a quick vote in the party room, and voila – he was out on his s ares and we had a new Prime Minister. So simple. How great would it be if you guys could rid of this useless and dangerous wanker so easily?! Trump is a toxic, contagious, and deadly virus that needs to be eradicated asap.

    • Esmom says:

Yes. She makes my stomach turn. As does the rest of the family. Pure slime.

      • velourazure says:

If Obama had installed his adult daughter as “Assistant to the President” during his reign, civil war would have broken out.

    • Miko says:

Me too, I hope Impeachment hearings by Summer!

  3. SusanneToo says:

But her real, most important title, is Daughterwife.

    • Megan says:

The whole daughter wife thing is creepy AF.

      • Nancy says:

Yes to both you. It reeks of privilege, nepotism and disturbing chemistry of father/daughter. She has no right to quietly sneak into the WH and try to take it over with daddy. Loathe them all

    • Betsy says:

      Kompromat…..

    • mkyarwood says:

      PUuuuuuuuuke

    • brincalhona says:

She should keep the dresses as she might need them as evidence.

    • sarah says:

She has always outranked Melania in his life. Which is very creepy. And IMO Jared is the perfect husband for her + son-in-law for Trump because they both know he will never rock the boat about daddy + darling’s very weird relationship. Jared will go along with it and worship at Trump’s throne. Creepier still.

  4. Shambles says:

Usually seeing those three words together wouldn’t make me feel creeped out and nauseous. But in this case, they do.

    • Tata says:

Ugh. Someone pointed out to me that usually 3 star generals get the position Ivanka has. She is higher than the white house chief of staff at this point.

How can we guarantee a wall between this family discussing business? You literally cannot. This is beyond ethics violations it is criminal and there are anti-nepotism laws in place that need to be enforced!

Trump supporters on twitter: all you so-called feminists are liars because you don’t support women like ivanka. I am at a loss for words.

  5. Chelly says:

But don’t call her a White House employee

    • AnnaKist says:

I agree Chelly. If she’s (really) not being paid, then she’s a volunteer. Volunteers do not suddenly get promoted to such powerful and privileged positions. Pond scum, every last one of them.

  6. Indira says:

His supporters didn’t vote for Donald Trump, they voted for the Trumps.

  7. Annie says:

I cannot express how much this disgusts me. Trump, Melania, Ivanka, Jared, Junior, Erik – they all disgust me.

  8. Sarah says:

I want to see whole family in orange overalls – made in Mexico.

  9. grabbyhands says:

    RAGE.

Can you imagine if Obama had given one of his daughters a WO job as an “advisor” if they had been of age? Hell, people flipped the f**k out about Malia having an intern job on a Hollywood set, something wholly unconnected to DC.

And now this woman, who is in no way qualified to advise her dipshit father suddenly is federal employee. How gracious of her to “voluntarily comply” with ethics rules. Just like 45 is, I guess.
The only reason either she or her husband are taking the roles that they are is a desperate attempt to rein Orange Hitler in. I’m skeptical of their ability to do so and I don’t believe for a second that either of them will go unpaid or actually divest themselves of any pesky conflicts of interest.

Once again, people are greeting the barest of bare minimum adherence to rules by giving her waaaay too much credit. She’s a devious person, like the rest of that family.

    • Indira says:

His supporters still trash Malia because of that intern job. I’ve seen some really disgusting comments about that girl.

    • Jessica says:

She seems like a lovely girl. I liked the Bush twins even when they got into an issue. They were college kids. I was up to the same sh*t at 18.

    • Blah says:

They pitched a royal fit because they moved Michelle’s mother into the White House to be a nanny for the girls. It was crazy. But suddenly all of this mess is ok. I can’t wait for the impeachment.

      • Lightpurple says:

And the Obama’s paid rent for Michelle’s mother to live there.

      • SusanneToo says:

Some of the morons are still pushing the lie that Mrs. Robinson is getting a $160,000 pension for nannying. It’s an outright lie, been disproven, but try telling that to trump’s army of idiots.

      • swak says:

@SusanneToo: Trump’s army only sees the agenda it wants to see and the heck with any other facts being put out there.

    • AnneC says:

Just think what the crazy right wing would be saying if Chelsea and her husband were in the White House and had been given this much responsibility. They would be going nuts. Chelsea has a PHD in political science so she’s way more qualified than sweatshop clothing designer, Ivanka. But instead not a peep out of any elected GOP office holder. This is why it’s so important to vote in midterms and Dems take back the house. There would finally be some accountability for this 3rd rate grifter family who have taken over our country.

  10. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

She always was going to get a role in his administration, esp after her husband got one. Nepotism at its best. America Inc, a Trump Corporation.

PS, In some of the shots used in the article you can see the resemblance to Daddy, esp around the eyes, mouth and cheeks.

    • Lightpurple says:

When she isn’t wearing her false eyelashes, the resemblance is very strong. All that money on plastic surgery and she still looks like him.

      • PunkyMomma says:

I contend she had the plastic surgery to look more like him. Ivanka used to bear a striking resemblance to her mother, Ivana.

      • Syko says:

They have the same mouth. Sort of like what you see when your cat walks away from you.

      • AnnaKist says:

I love your comment, Syko. I have 3 cats, and they walk away from me a lot… I think their mouths look like arseholes with teeth. Tsk. I can’t believe I’ve stopped so low as to make such a comment. That’s the kind of anger and hatred this band of brazen con artists inspires in people. And I’m not even American.

  11. RussianBlueCat says:

So actually what is she going to be doing? Making sure her father’s phone is fully charged so he can go on Twitter rampages?
As for Melania moving to Washington in June, it will be interesting to see how much time she will actually stay in town. Barron will be out of school and I could see her wanting to spend time with her son in Florida or elsewhere while he is on summer break. I almost think that Melania knew the crap would hit the fan regarding Donald and the Russians early in the year. She decided to use the excuse of not changing her son’s school mid term to stay in NYC and avoid subjecting her and Barron to the turmoil in Washington.
By the way things are looking I can see her and Barron back in NYC by September. Donald may have stepped down or be removed from office by then

    • Beth says:

She’ll be sitting pretty at meetings with the most powerful people from all around the world and trying to look important. Maybe this summer he’ll hire his wife and son to do other pointless jobs because they’re Trumps too. He’ll give Baron golf lessons every weekend in the Sunshine State.

It looks more and more evey day that goes by that Trump will be packing his bags and having to leave the WH. He’ll be gone

      • RussianBlueCat says:

You can bet she will make sure to be at any meetings when the prime minister of Canada is attending

    • Betsy says:

While she will definitely be in there grifting, her real purpose is to be around to prevent him from sundowning.

      And daughter wifing.

  12. Louise177 says:

How can Trump get away with this? I don’t understand why the Republicans and his followers are eating this up. Obama and W. Bush probably couldn’t do anything that Trump has done.

    • SusanneToo says:

While the clown show is going on, Repubs are gutting worker protection laws, handing your browser history over to Comcast, killing climate protection, and passing a law allowing bear and wolf pups to be murdered while hibernating. That’s why they’re happy to let the grifters grift.

      • Lindy says:

Yep, this, exactly. I am feeling almost paralyzed at the news that unfolds every day. I’m writing and calling my elected reps (but I live in Texas, so seeing robo replies from the Cruz office every day is nauseating). I’m donating when I can. Helping out with programs to support refugees (since I live in a blue sanctuary city that’s under attack). But yeah… I still find myself in shock at all of this, and at the fact that so many Americans who support Trump see no problems with the corruption, nepotism, and sheer idiocy.

    • Jessica says:

This makes my husband and I wish for W which is something neither of us us ever thought possible.

    • Beth says:

Trump is a yuge con man. He’ll find a way to get away with anything he wants. His sucker supporters still believe he’s great. Even W. wouldn’t be stupid and mean enough to sign all these EOs.

  13. Lolo86lf says:

What qualifications does Ivanka have to be the President’s advisor? Why did she get that job? This is crazy.

    • AfricanBoy says:

None, but she is Trump’s ideal woman so she gets what she wants.

    • Indiana Joanna says:

Plastic Barbie robotic first daughter is the only person baby fists trusts. That’s her qualification. For all his bullying, vicious bluster he’s a deeply insecure, needy, paranoid troll under a bridge creep.

And she’s her father’s daughter. The hyperplastic surgery to her face and her implants straining the fabric of her clothes is grotesque and disturbing.

baby fists and his family have always been mocked by the New York elite. They are grifters of the highest order. They know people snicker about them and they are deeply resentful about it.

    • Beth says:

Absolutely none. He needs his favorite girl around to make him happy. It’s been said that she keeps him from going overboard on Twitter and all his actions

      • Lightpurple says:

It has been said that but I really think she sees nothing wrong with his Twitter behavior. They’re there to grift . That is all.

    • SusanneToo says:

She’s close by now. He doesn’t have to leave the WH to cop a feel.

      • Skylark says:

@SusanneToo – I just want to say that I love your ongoing no-holds-barred, no-f*cks-to-give rage at the outrageousness of the grim absurdity of the trump. Above make me seriously laugh out loud. 😀

@Lightpurple – a big shout out to you too for your ongoing and always informed and much appreciated intolerance for bullshit and commitment to facts.

With Trump and his daughter and son-in-law in the White House, the title on HuffingtonPost sums it up.

Scamalot. We had Camelot for the Kennedy years in the WH. We have Scamalot for however many months or years Trump and his grifter family and other rag tags like Bannon are in office.

  16. Lightpurple says:

Princess Nagina the Corrupt and Most Sacred Horcruxed Vagina, Grifter in Chief does not have a clue about ethics. And unpaid? Like Daddy is unpaid but accepting a paycheck every month? And we’re paying for this scum’s healthcare now too?

Somebody needs to let Nagina know that federal phone records, browsing on a federal device, all that is subject to the federal records laws. So, make a phone call to your business on a federal phone, we can know it and it is a violation. Email your kid’s doctor, Ivanka? First, an improper use and second, not protected information so, we get to see it. Also, honey, you can’t be involved in any meetings or policy development that benefits you, your husband, your kids, your father, your father-in-law, your brothers, or Tiffany. But somehow, I think you’ve been violating that one since the start.

    • SusanneToo says:

Don’t warn her! She’s stupid enough to do all that. It’ll be so satisfying to see her jailed.

      • Lightpurple says:

Oh, I doubt Princess Nagina would lower herself to listen to the mere likes of little me.

  17. Beth says:

      • HK9 says:

I believe Monica started doing handbags after the scandal broke and her lawyers told her to stay in her apartment and not speak to anyone, so she started making handbags to occupy her time. It wasn’t something she was doing before that. The fact that most of the people who are working in this administration are spectacularly unqualified for the posts to which they’ve been appointed is a concern.

      • Christin says:

Even Monica was more qualified than this one. At least she interned in the WH.

  22. Lena says:

Does anybody in this administration understand what “conflict of interest” means?

    • Christin says:

Apparently no one thinks it applies to them.

There are people in federal lockup right now for corruption charges (using gov’t jobs for personal gain, as in free tickets, gift cards, etc. – relatively small scale) that are probably wondering the same.

Well, not as bad as Saudi though but to think that this happen in USA is .. I am speechless

  27. Rapunzel says:

Ivanka is a major dumbass for taking this role, as her husband was dumb for taking his role. Now, when daddy goes down, he’s gonna take Jarvanka with him. Should’ve stayed in NYC making Chinese produced crap, girl.

  28. kimbers says:

Why is he or she allowed to do this? This is gov not a private business? Also, for a party who wants limited governmen why limit civilian liberties?

    • SusanneToo says:

Repubs only want limited government so that big business and hypocritical religious fanatics can run wild. For personal matters such as choice or gender or race equality they’re on the same page as the Taliban.

    • swak says:

But Trump is trying to run it as a business and we all (well most of us) know that can’t be done.

The trumps are testing democracy and so far I have to say democracy has been weakened. When putin says there’s no true democracy at this moment in time his right. There’s only profit.

    • Eric says:

      @hype
Totally disagree. Those TrumpClowns are going down. Main Clown 1) can’t pass any legislation, 2) is under 3 separate intelligence investigations, and 3) is engaged in 75 lawsuits, with more pending.

Just so everyone knows, the FBI can prosecute anyone no matter what senate and house commissions are doing. If crimes were committed, then Pol Pot-belly will be hauled away in handcuffs (even if he resigns).

The trump brand will never recover and your children will only hear about the trumps in regard to their despicable actions between ca 1973-2018.

      • Elysium1973 says:

      • Christin says:

I keep telling myself this is merely infamous history in the making. Others have pointed out how it took a couple of years for Watergate to play out, piece by piece. And it took 30 years to confirm that the journalists’ primary source was the number 2 guy at F B I.

Well, bitch hitched her star to baby fisted bigly wheels’s wagon. She’ll go down with that ship like everyone else soon enough! How soon can they start impeachment?? I feel like they have more than enough to impeach everyone in 45s administration a long time ago!!!

  42. Moon says:

All the trump children look like their father except the Tiffany. Ivanka looks a lot like 45

  43. Layla says:

She’s a revolting individual. They are running a thiefdom. America is the property of Trump and his reptilian offspring.

  44. Nicole says:

I’m not a fan of Trump but there IS a history of this in the White House. There are Bobby Kennedy laws that stop presidents from appointing family members to cabinet positions and FDR’s daughter pretty much did what Ivanka is doing. She even made state decisions for her father, during a War no less.

  45. Norma Warner says:

Ivanka knows the truth of Bigly’s mental situation so he must keep her close.

  46. FUTrumpies says:

Jiggles The ASSistant, the apple of daddy’s eye…and hands. She’ll keep him busy all right.
