Will Smith reversed his parental policy of no-discipline and hacked off son Jaden’s ponytail for missing curfew. No, that’s not true at all – I just wanted to get your attention. Jaden is preparing for his next film role, Life in a Year, with Cara Delvenigne, Terrance Howard and Nia Long, and needed to be shorn for his character. Seizing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Will clipped off Jaden’s dreads:

and took them on a test drive on himself:

All of this he posted to Facebook with the caption “Getting Jaden Smith ready for the first day of filming #LifeInAYear…maybe I should’ve used scissors?!”

Honestly, my favorite part of this is Will’s expressions. I swear he is mocking his son in that shot of him with the ponytail on. I must give Will credit for his execution, that is a very clean cut, much straighter than I would have produced. Jaden’s hair is dyed so even were it long enough, it couldn’t be donated, unfortunately. I imagine Hollywood baby books are very different from ours so maybe they’ll tape one piece under “Baby’s First Film Sacrifice.” The film uses a familiar trope. It’s one of those “girl is dying so boy shows her how to live in the time she has left” plot. Meh. If I need a Jaden fix, I’ll stick with The Get Down (Have I flipped out here over The Get Down yet? Because I can create one serious flip-out over that show – love it!)

Jaden has always been a nice looking young man and he looks just as lovely with short hair as he did with long.

This begs the question, now that Jaden has cropped locks, what will he do with the $5000 worth of Cartier rings he used to tie it up with before? *wiggles empty fingers* – I mean, if he needs some place to keep them…

Speaking of Will, Jaden and his movie career – Jaden starred with the incomparable Jackie Chan in The Karate Kid remake. In honor of Jackie’s birthday, Will posted this to Facebook and I thought it was lovely enough to take us into the weekend. Happy Weekend, everyone! If you are expecting an Easter basket on Sunday, may it be full of sweets and discarded Cartier rings (just in case!)
