Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda walk the runway at PFW for L’Oreal Paris

It’s a sad and awful day so I wanted to talk about two of my favorites, Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda, walking the runway at Paris Fashion Week on the Champs-Elysées as part of their L’Oreal Paris beauty contracts. I forgot that they both work for L’Oreal as I don’t think I’ve seen their commercials before. (Here’s a link to a commercial Jane did for the Australian market for their new skincare line, Age Perfect, and here’s Helen’s Age Perfect ad for the UK.) People reports that they’ve both been ambassadors for the brand since 2014. (Sidenote: I know that many people rightfully dislike and boycott L’Oreal for their previous stance on animal testing. However they claim that since 2013 they have not tested their products on animals except in China where it is required to bring them to market. L’Oreal is working to have China reverse this policy. I am in no way defending them, just stating the facts as I know them.)

Getting back to Helen and Jane, they were promoting L’Oreal by wearing other designers’ clothes on the runway, which makes no sense to me but I guess they were modeling the gorgeous makeup. Jane was in a long sleeve tiger print Balmain dress with a zippered back slit that made it difficult to walk but she still worked it. Mashable posted the video below, which shows Jane strutting her stuff, throwing the peace sign and high fiving another model who walks past her going the other way. I love her so much and she looks amazing.

Here’s Helen Mirren, working the hell out of a pair of very wide leg trousers (they’re in this season and I got a couple of pairs, but I don’t know if I have the moxie to pull off a silhouette even half this size) with a badass navy trench with white piping. She swung that walking stick the whole way down the runway, pausing to point at a few lucky people in the audience.

That’s just our little brain break for today, thinking about these women in their 70s (Helen is 72, Jane is 79) looking gorgeous. Of course last week Jane shot down idiot Megyn Kelly when Kelly asked her about her plastic surgery in front of Robert Redford (who later claimed he hasn’t had any) and a live studio audience. We don’t need to rehash all that, I just want to look at Jane and Helen and fantasize about the decades ahead. Also I think I’m going to wear red lipstick and some wide pants later today.

Another video of Jane. Look at her charming the crowd.

Helen’s look arriving to the show. Also on point. Love that tweed moto jacket.

I want to be as cool as Helen Mirren… I probably never will be, but it’s good to have goals, right?;)

    FABULOUS WOMEN! So fierce.

I love Helen’s jeans outfit and long coat!!

  6. Skylark says:

Helen Looks amazing. Not keen on what Jane is wearing or her Nancy Reagenish look here.

    • TQB says:

Yeah, Jane’s hair is nancy-ish, isn’t it? She looked better on the show-that-shall-not-be-mentioned. Just a strange styling choice.

    • Jayna says:

I thought it was Nancy Reagan at first glance. She’s overdone the plastic surgery.

I had insomnia the other night and watched that Netflix movie she did with Robert Redford. Her cheeks were absolutely out of control. It took away from her character, actually, cheeks filled all the way down the sides of her face until parallel with her mouth. She must have had another touch-up before shooting the movie. They were playing 80-year-olds, and Robert had so much character to his face. Jane is laying in bed with the plump, smooth cheeks of a 20-year-old. LOL

I want to age like Helen Mirren. That is all.

    • damejudi says:

Ditto. Her skin is so beautiful–no cat lady eyes, frozen forehead, or squirrel-storing-nuts-for-winter stuffed cheeks.

This is how to wear your age!

      • msd says:

They’ve both had multiple facelifts, which is fine if that’s what you want to do to feel better and extend your career but it’s odd that people talk about them as examples of ageing naturally/gracefully.

    • Jayna says:

      She looks amazing. Love her.

  8. FHMom says:

I’m so sad today, but these two ladies look amazing. I didn’t realize Jane was so tall. She looks petite.

  9. QueenElisabeth says:

I am so in love with Helen Mirren <3

  10. Pia says:

I don’t like L’Oreal due to their promotion of colorism (by selling fairness creams). I find it hypocritical of Frieda Pinto and Lupita Nyongo to represent this brand (Lancome is L’Oreal) while calling out other skin fairness companies.

  11. TQB says:

Thank you for this today. These ladies are fantastic. I would cut a bitch for Helen’s purple tweed moto jacket. Goddamn she is fabulous.

  12. Shijel says:

I LOVE OLDER WOMEN DOING THEIR THING

Jane, Helen, queens among the condemned, the dreaded “old women”. You show this rotting world that women ain’t done just because they lose their youth. I’m so happy, they’re so cool! Wow!

  13. KLO says:

    So GOOD.

  14. Mei says:

They are amazing. I just want to chill out with Dame Helen, she seems like such good company. The wearing of other designers is a bit random though, I agree. What about Cheryl? She also walked this show for Loreal.
