Britain’s Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle had a hard time coping with the stress and constant attention that came along with her instant fame, and had to be hospitalized for exhaustion right after the show’s final. She was released within a few days, and went on to perform on the Britain’s Got Talent tour which had its opening night on Friday in Manchester. Susan sang the two songs we’ve heard from her, “I Dreamed a Dream” and “Memory,” and she also gave two good performances of that same set on Saturday in Sheffield. She had to cancel her third scheduled stop with the tour last night in Manchester in order to rest, however, and it is unknown whether she will perform with the tour in her native Scotland tonight.

It’s only the second stop of the Britain’s Got Talent UK Tour, and Susan Boyle is already canceling appearances.

The 47-year-old YouTube phenomenon made a rousing appearance on the tour’s opening night in Birmingham, England. Yet now the folks of Manchester won’t get a chance to dream her dream, as she’s taking Sunday night off.

Reports say that SuBo spokespeople stress there’s no need for alarm, it’s just a “one off rest day.”

Rumors of a nervous breakdown and exhaustion plagued Boyle before the final of the intense talent competition, which she eventually placed second in.

She’s scheduled to appear Monday in her home country of Scotland, for a sold out show in Glasgow.

[From RadarOnline]

The Daily Mail reports that Susan is scheduling appearances at corporate events to take place once she has completed the 21 date tour. She is reportedly charging £100,000, or $164,000, for a 12 minute set. Boyle is also said to have received a whopping £8 million or $13.2 million USD, for a recording contract with Simon Cowell. Her CD is due out this Christmas. If that’s the case, she has enough money to live on for the rest of her life and hardly has to tour to support her music or “Britain’s Got Talent.” It seems like someone should step in and make sure that Boyle has the privacy and rest she sorely seems to need. The public doesn’t need to keep seeing her sing at the expense of her health and well being.

I don’t think she has the mental capacity to perform before large crowds. Let her record her CD without touring until she is absolutely ready. The light just doesn’t switch on automatically for everyone.

164 000 dollars is an outrageous price to charge for a 12 min concert with Susan Boyle, especially when it appears her 15 minutes of fame will soon be up.

Not only is it greed, but it’s odd.

She does not seem to be dealing with her fame very well, and for that I sympathize, however I seriously don’t think this woman was playing with a full deck of cards to begin with, even before she became famous.

I wish her the best, but I have no interest in her whatsoever.

  3. Because I Say So says:

I too now wonder if she’ll be able to handle fame/fortune. Maybe that’s the reason she wasn’t discovered until now, really. I wish her all the best, but already the quick hiatus she’s been on at the start of the tour does not bode well for her.

My understanding, and please correct me if I’m wrong because I don’t remember where I read or heard this, is that Ms. Boyle has some sort of learning disability or mental challenge that limits her ability to tolerate this sort of attention and chaos like a “normally-functioning” mind could.

I have nothing but sympathy and respect for someone who has to work harder than the average person would to achieve something and manages to do it anyway.

I wouldn’t expect someone with arthritis to walk miles without needing to stop a bit to rest a few times before finishing the walk. If Susan truly has some kind of mental disability that affects her ability to cope in paparazzi or large-crowd situations, it’s only natural that she would need to do the equivalent and take a night off periodically to recenter and dispel the anxiety.

Please, there are horrible singers that make records and get paid even more than what Susan is asking. Leave her be.

  6. geronimo says:

If corporate clients want to shell out this level of fee, why not? No one’s forcing them to book her. I still think she’s being exploited by Cowell & co and her abilities have been madly and wildly overrated, but good luck to her.

  7. Zoe says:

Susan Boyle is so completely fake to begin with. I can’t believe a nation bought into this ploy, and frankly all this “exhaustion” stuff sounds like a nice PR campaign as well. People are way too gullible.

Ok, when SuBo first appeared on BGT i kept getting emails from my friends “oh mah gawd! shes amazing!!11!1”. I mean, shes a good singer, theres a lot of good singers in the world. I dont understand the hype this woman gets. She seems to be turning into a diva already. Whats going to happen when her 15 mins are up?

  9. westindya says:

Puh-leeze. If anyone REALLY thought about it, she is this popular because her unfortunate looks are balanced out my a bangin’ voice.

In essence, all of this attention is based on pity and not respect. She needs to take her money, make her one album and bid peace out to simon and co.

We`ll see how long she lasts. She`s unstable, and her 5 mins of fame are almost up. She`s practically talentless. She only has a great singing voice. She can`t act, dance, play an instrument, take pics in photoshoots..She`s not marketable. This is a pity ploy on Simon`s part. It`s PR for Simon…he`s hoping people will think he`s a good guy. She can`t even star in a Broadway role, her looks aren`t compatible with her voice.Imagine hearing this beautiful voice, and then she walks out? She`s just not marketable.
