Johnny Depp was allegedly wasted at the London ‘MOTOE’ premiere

'Murder on the Orient Express' World Premiere - Arrivals

Last Thursday, Johnny Depp came out of hiding for the London premiere of Murder on the Orient Express, which we talked about. I wrote that Depp had perhaps spent his time away from the spotlight “drying out” somewhat, because he didn’t look so puffy and boozy in the photos. True, he doesn’t look healthy these days, but much like Brad Pitt’s post-Angelina slim-down, it did seem like Depp isn’t consuming booze at the same rate as before, and it’s notable on his face especially. The problem is that many people thought Depp was acting drunk on the red carpet:

Johnny Depp returned to London for the Murder On The Orient Express premiere on Thursday. And judging by the looks he got from his fellow cast members, the Hollywood star may have enjoyed a few drinks on the way down. Johnny appeared a little bit worse for wear on the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall and allegedly reeked of booze while mixing with co-stars including DAME JUDI DENCH, PENELOPE CRUZ and director KENNETH BRANAGH.

Snaps of his personal security man Jerry Judge having to practically hold him up only added to the impression he was having a big night out.

Indeed, Johnny’s partying started the previous evening at London club The Box. A movie source said: “Johnny was having big old night and was told off for smoking three times while inside. He was annoyed people were staring at him too. But on the night of the premiere, he was in a strange mood and everyone thought he’d been drinking.”

He was lamenting his split from AMBER HEARD so he’s clearly still not over the issues of the previous couple of years.

“You can see why there are still some serious fears about his wellbeing.”

[From The Sun]

I believe it, just because I tend to believe any and all negative stories about Johnny Depp these days. But a source told E! News: “These reports are completely false. Johnny was not drunk at the premiere. He came straight from set to the premiere. His security was maneuvering him around the carpet as he has done for years.” Ah, Depp’s security was not propping him up, they were “maneauvering him around the carpet.” I haven’t heard that one before. Meanwhile, Depp was also a guest on the Graham Norton Show with some of the other cast members and people were NOT happy. I love Graham Norton, but I do think he should stop inviting Depp to the show – Depp’s TV interviews are increasingly horrible and now people are mad at Graham Norton for doing a softball interview with a domestic abuser.

He still looks like a raging alcoholic to me. He’s still got the gut.

He’s lost the puffy, sweaty, pallid look, which suggests to me he’s given something else up.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

I saw a picture of him from “Sleepy Hollow” (1999-2000) the other day and registered that he was very handsome at one time. If he had taken care of himself, that might still be the case.
It’s obvious he has not aged well. Years of alcohol abuse take their toll on his looks.

  2. ell says:

it didn’t look like maneuvering, it looked like propping. also he’s slurring so much in that video.

    • MC2 says:

Yea- he can barely tell the gd story. This guy is a mess. I’m surprised that insurance isn’t an issue for him on movies…..yet.

  3. Jess says:

The fact that he and Mel Gibson get to continue to be in high profile movies (and Netflix hasn’t done squat about Danny Masterston) and Woody Allen gets to continue to be feted as a great director shows me that even in a post-Harvey world, a lot of these abusers will still be just fine.

    • Kudos says:

THey will keep being celebrated in hollywood by the same people that are faking surprise
Asia argento just posted that depp was scheduled to work with brett ratner in a movie

  4. Nicole says:

Yea it might not be alcohol…OR it could be that much drug use has caught up to him cognitively. I’ve seen that many times

  5. Bridget says:

Has Depp ever been a very good interview? He’s not nearly as intelligent or worldly as he thinks he is, and it always shines through when he speaks.

    • Justjj says:

Yes. I don’t think he knows wtf he’s saying 99.9% of the time. His interviews sound like: “something something Baudelaire, something something Basquiat, something something de Sade… ” and people go nuts. Spare me.

    • Julianna says:

Nope. He’s always come off as the poorly educated, self-absorbed man he is.

There’s a reason why he never used to do much press, and why when he did do a profile it was with the kind of bro-y reporter who painted his boozy, tantrum-filled lifestyle as romantic and artistic instead of pathetic.

      • Bridget says:

He always seems like someone who skimmed the Clifs notes on “how to sound smart” and drops a bunch of fancy references in place of complex thoughts. The air of mystery that he and Vanessa cultivated really worked for him.

    • JG says:

So glad other people have noticed this as well.

    • raincoaster says:

Nick Tosches interviewed him once for Vanity Fair and that was a good interview. They got drunk in casinos together for like 18 straight hours, and then Tosches found Depp passed out on the toilet, if I recall. So the highs and lows of a rich, glamorous alcoholic’s life.

  6. Nora says:

    Horrible man.

  7. frisbee says:

And water is wet – who knew!

  8. Me says:

his age caught all sudden on him, he aged 20 years in a year
and he can’t even speak, if he wasn’t drunk he was on something else #drugs

  9. Hella says:

Is he short? Those are some serious lifts on his dress shoes there!

    • Bridget says:

He’s Tom Cruise height, and usually wears shoes with lifts.

      • Zapp Brannigan says:

“He’s Tom Cruise height” might just be the meanest thing I have ever read about anyone! Lol

      • Bridget says:

I’m not trying to be mean, because you can’t really control how tall you are. But if you look at pics of the two of them next to each other, they’re definitely about the same height. It’s just that no one talks about it with Depp.

      • Zapp Brannigan says:

Bridget I know you were not being mean, it just made me laugh today to read that, and I really needed the laugh.

  10. Chloeee says:

He talks so slow and in fragmented sentences. He also reminds me so much of my dad when he’s drunk (my dad). Especially in the Graham interview when he says ‘Oi’ (my dad’s English) it was like instant flashback to my father.

  11. Max says:

Not to start an argument or anything but most people who were at the premiere agree that he wasn’t drunk. His bodyguard for some weird reason always acts like that, there was even a post on 9gag about it some months ago. Then it’s the Sun that wrote it which is National Enquirer here in Europe. Why do you all act like Depp wasn’t always horrible at being interviewed? From the 80s till know he never was able to finish a sentense properly even sober.
Plus if he really came from the set that means it’s Fantastic Beasts 2 and with all the outrage about his casting there’s no way in hell he’d be drinking while on set.I also noticed that he was driking water during GN show.I don’t defend him in general but at this particular situation it really looks like things were blown out of proportion.

    • Lady D says:

Maybe he was never able to finish a sentence because he was always high or hammered? Dude hasn’t been straight for decades.

      • Max says:

I really don’t think it’s possible that he was high-drunk during every single interview he gave in his 33 year old career.Even for him.He always had a problem with talking in front of people and it gets even worse if he’s drunk-high.My point is that he might even be sober and sseem like a drunk due to his problem with giving interviews.
He’s in the middle of filming a huge WB movie in which his part alone has caused outrage.I really don’t think he’d be drinking that much was given the circumstances, this isn’t Pirates where he’s boss.

      • Lady D says:

        Brad Pitt said he was.

  12. Wondering says:

The outrage against violence and harassment against women just works when it fits the narrative of moral and economic interesting.
People turn a blind eye for everything this drunk idiot does and keep him being praised and applauded everywhere.
Nothing will change in Hollywood, they will just punish the less powerful dudes, I think the exception was Kevin spacey but just him.

  13. Eveil says:

Well, that lasted 0.001 seconds. Damn wife beater.

  14. Rose says:

I’m not sure if Depp was drunk but he did seem seemed high. His eyes looked unfocused and glazed over.

  15. The New Classic says:

I used to be such a stan for this man, now I just can’t. I think I had every YouTube video of him saved from the period when he was with Vanessa and they were just so effortlessly cool and crazy in love. Now to see his true colors and how far he has fallen is painful. I haven’t supported any of the projects that he’s done since the revelation regarding the abuse Amber suffered at his hands.
Lucky for my ever loving stan heart, John Patrick Amedori looks similar to young Johnny Depp and is truly a great guy and an actor I feel good supporting. So from now on I’ll just go hard for JPA (can’t wait for season two of Dear White People!) and forget Scarfy Depp exists.

  16. Sara says:

He needs to get a grip. My whole thing is he spent so long trying to rebel the “hot actor” and wanted to be taken seriously so badly that he didn’t take good enough care of his own mental and physical well being. He needs mental health help if he hasn’t already. Jonnie you are a great actor now get your shit together. You don’t have to fight the “hot guy” label anymore trust.

  17. Rose of Sharon says:

I think Mr. Depp has been ill for quite some time now with a common, under-recognized, horrific type of dementia called frontotemporal dementia, behavioral variant (bvFTD), that tends to strike people in their 40s to 60s. Onset is routinely dismissed as marital breakdown or “midlife crisis” or misdiagnosed as a psychiatric disorder or alcoholism/drug-addiction because of some people’s attempt to self medicate.

His halting, effortful, stuttering speech could mean that the disease may be spreading to the left frontal/temporal lobes now, the language center. His motor skills may also be affected now.

Mr. Depp should’ve been taken to a doctor immediately after assaulting his new wife. Explosive outbursts, poor hygiene, impulsiveness (wild spending, swearing, shouting out inappropriate statements, suddenly leaving the family and marrying someone they barely know), irrational and uncharacteristic behaviors are signs of this disease. Instead, they attacked Miss Heard, but by doing so, they harmed the man they wanted to protect.

    • raincoaster says:

Well, they are ALSO signs of a midlife crisis, and if he’d had a medical excuse, don’t you think the team would have used it?

Maybe he’s just been drinking so much, for so long, that his brain has turned to mush.

  18. jferber says:

I’ve never seen him in anything that I thought, “Wow, what a good actor!” He’s always been quirky, handsome and cool. Not anymore. So why does he keep getting jobs? Women in his position, even ones who have no addictions and have not battered their spouses, don’t get roles simply because they’ve “aged out” of roles. Johnny doesn’t deserve his good fortune, probably never did (he was very lucky to have Tim Burton as a friend/mentor).

  19. Laura Cee says:

He looks like Gomez Addams to me.

  20. Rose of Sharon says:

    Raincoaster:

There is no such thing as a “midlife crisis.” Sure, people in midlife may decide to parachute, climb Mt. Everest, get a Ph.D or take up gourmet cooking, but they wouldn’t intentionally blow up their happy, stable world, rip apart their family or think it was a good idea to go bankrupt.

And no, I don’t think Mr. Depp’s team would use a medical reason to excuse his behavior because they are far too busy trying to shield him while they attempt to destroy others.

A neurologist would rule out Korsakoff syndrome, tumor, stroke and other possible causes of his illness first, but someone has to get him there.

  21. Valiantly Varnished says:

I say it every time I see a pic of Depp: his loss of his looks is his karma. He looks terrible. Now if only he could lose his career as well.
