Never again: Millie Bobby Brown made a statement and wore the names of the 17 Parkland shooting victims at the Kids’ Choice Awards. pic.twitter.com/dSO7WfOfRB

The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards were Saturday night in Los Angeles. It was synchronous that the Kids’ Choice Awards happened on the same day as the March For Our Lives. John Cena hosted the show and kicked the night off by giving a shoutout to the march and kids changing the world.
Millie Bobby Brown, Eleven from Stranger Things, won Favorite TV Actress. During her speech, Millie also mentioned the marches and all the kids fighting for change. But Millie also made a statement by having her Calvin Klein shirt embroidered with “Never Again” over the left breast pocket and the names of the 17 victims of the Parkland shooting on the back. At the end of the speech, she turned around and paused a moment for everyone to read it.
Millie Bobby Brown’s denim button-down said it all.
Appearing at the 2018 Kids’ Choice Awards in the same Calvin Klein ensemble Kim Kardashian West wore in the brand’s ad campaign, the Stranger Things actress customized the back of her shirt to feature the names of the 17 victims of the Parkland, Fla. shooting. Above the names read “March For Our Lives” in support of the weekend’s nationwide protest against gun violence.
The actress who plays Eleven on the Netflix hit took to the stage to accept the award for Favorite TV Actress before calling attention to the cause in an emotional speech.
“Thank you so much for this award, and to Nickelodeon for bringing us all together. As we saw a moment ago, the March for Our Lives demonstrations that took place all over the world today have inspired me and impacted us all in one way or another,” said Millie.
“But more than anything, I get to be up here, and I’m privileged to have a voice that can be heard, one that I can use to hopefully make a positive difference and help influence change,” the 14-year-old star added. “OK, so there’s an amazing support, love and kindness in this room right now, and I want to encourage everyone to embrace it and to pass it on.”
“For the angels among us, your spirit lives on. This is for you,” she concluded.
I think Millie did a nice job with this. You can only get so heavy at a kids’ award show. She put just the right amount of weight in her words and let her shirt make most of her statement. Turning around and pausing was reminiscent of a moment of silence and a nice touch, in my opinion. Because this was an emotional expression of support and I like the way Millie handled it, I won’t give my opinion on the outfit as a fashion choice. Or the shoes. And definitely not the hair. I can give a big thumbs up to the small, diamond loop earrings, though.
I also appreciate Millie’s message about passing on, “amazing support, love and kindness,” something she and co-star Gaten Matarazzo did recently for a teen who threw himself a Stranger Things birthday party that no one showed up to. The boy’s sister posted this on Twitter:
my brother invited 8 of his classmates for his stranger things themed bday party & none of their punk selves showed up pic.twitter.com/Rw8wC5uNjo

Millie and Gaten saw the tweet and told the teen to send them an invite for next year’s party because the cast had his back and would be there for him. Gaten even offered to “bring the chocolate pudding.”
Count me in too! I’ll bring the chocolate pudding 🎂🎉🎈

I’m glad to see she seems grounded and aware despite her family situation.
Go Millie!
Dear Taylor Swift, this is how to stand up and be counted. Learn from a pre-teen celebrity with only a tiny bit of influence you wield doing more than a reluctant tweet about a PR donation.
why is taylor swift always brought into this? can we have one post where someone don’t ask about what she thinks?
*doesn’t
Originally said something snarky about her parents, but you know what, for whatever reason they selecting her practice her activism. Good on her and good on them.
I kind of enjoy the snow suit dress. It’s weirdly fun and quirky and probably warm. The Canadian tuxedo seeming concert reference outfit is kind of hilarious. I would enjoy if teens started dressing like extras from Trailer Park Boys.
LOVE this little lady.
LOVE HER! The shirt and speech were both simple and powerful.
I hope they do go to Aaron’s party next year. Or hell, throw him a belated one this year.
Of course Eleven would do something like this. Such a good kid, this one.
Gawd, I love her!
Good for her! I agree that she struck just the right note with her tribute to the Parkland students and support of the march for change. You know what? I LOVE her style for her age. I think she is stylish without being seeming self-conscious or needing praise for her choices.
