Is Cara Delevingne homaging a confession booth in Dior at the Met Gala?

I was raised Catholic, although I never got confirmed, and I dreaded the confession booth. The few times I confessed, I told the priest some heavily edited lesser sins so it would seem like I was trying. “Bless me father, for I have sinned. It has been three months since my last confession…” Penance was usually a few Hail Marys and Our Fathers, I never did enough to warrant an entire rosary. Cara Delevigne’s Dior last night reminds me of the criss cross pattern on the window to the confession booth. This is humorous high fashion and I adore it. She was there with her friend, fellow British model Adwoa Aboah, and they both rocked very short hair with neon coloring. (Here are the details from their hair stylist.) Cara’s headpiece is by Marianna Harutunian. (hat tip: JJ)

Frances McDormand brought the drama in Valentino, in a crazy headpiece that looked like birds were flying over her head and a giant teal wrap with a huge collar over a yellow green gown. I love how ridiculous and costumey this is. I would say it’s some kind of reference to clerical capes but I don’t know.

Lynda Carter was in Zac Posen, looking like she was some high ranking church official gracing us with her presence. Do you remember the fairytale light up dress Posen did for Claire Danes at the Met Gala in 2016? He puts all his effort into one dress and it really shows. This was marvelous.

I really like France McDormand’s and Lynda Carter’s looks! Lynda’s is not necessarily in keeping with the drama so much, but it’s beautiful.

  2. lightpurple says:

Lynda was so regal. Frances is a hoot and she was having a fantastic time climbing those stairs in that costume. Sorry, Cara looks ridiculous.

    • Alyce says:

I agree with all your comments LP. And I actually really like Cara for some reason, so it isn’t that!

      Lynda looks like a queen.

    • Carmen says:

Disagree. I thought Delevingne looked great. It was a risky outfit but she carried it off. And I loved Aboah’s green afro.

      • Pandakeeper says:

Cara’s was daring and she nailed the theme. Love it! Frances can do what she wants and pulls it off. I guess Greta can now too, with the nun gown/costume.

    • Mira Belle says:

Lynda is total perfection. She always looks good and I want to know all her beauty secrets!!

  3. Lucy2 says:

Lynda for the win, as always.
I kind of love that Frances wore that, very unexpected for her. I’m surprise she even attend, it doesn’t seem like her scene.

    • Kitten says:

Right?? I’m like WTF is Fran doing there? I love how she committed to it though. She’s a walking sculpture here. She really stood out in a sea of white, black, and gold.

  4. minx says:

Love all of these! The “confessional” is great and really well done. Frances and Lynda look fab.

  5. Maria F. says:

i loved Cara’s look. The headpiece is stunning and looks very mysterious, secretive – like a confession…

  6. Jegede says:

    I liked Cara’s look.

I gotta be honest if I saw her in an alley in that get-up, I’d bail!

  7. Nicole says:

Didn’t love Cara’s look at all but I like that she took a risk. She just didn’t nail it.
Don’t know what Frances was going for but she killed it. Dramaaaaaaaaa
Lynda looks amazing. And yes I like that Zac does one stand out piece every year. Although this isn’t as impressive as Claire’s dress

    • Andrea Riordan says:

I think Frances was working with a conquistadores theme — the Catholic Church certainly did a number over there — and the feathers/colors look to me like a New World dignitary right before the Church looted and burned them to the ground. Brava.

  8. Jayna says:

    Lynda and Frances were fantastic.

I thought Cara really went for it. I like it also.

  9. Rumi says:

Frances was my favourite of the night. The colours, design, structure, execution everything was perfect. If I’d have gone to the met gala yesterday that’s exactly what I would’ve chosen. She just edged pass Rhianna and Zendaya for me.

  10. Veronica S. says:

Frances is 10/10, would look at those pictures forever. Can we invite her every year? She is amazing.

Lynda Carter’s outfit had Jewish elements, too. The crown apparently says in Hebrew, “Never forget,” and her hair was clipped back with a Star of David. I thought it was a very charming and thoughtful addition.

    • Mira Belle says:

Didn’t realize the Jewish elements of her style. Even more stars for her now. *sees self out*

  11. LeaTheFrench says:

Frances looked amazing. The way she poses reminds me a bit of some Renaissance statues representing religious ecstasy, so maybe that’s what she was going for?

  12. Lala says:

Lynda is a foreva Goddess…and was outfitted as such…

Frances looked like she was HAVING A BALL!!!! And whatever she was selling in that outfit…I was buying it!

    Cara looked divine!

  13. Surely Wolfbeak says:

Frances McDormand was my favorite. I feel the need to point out, with much joy and excitement, that she was, in fact, wearing a JUMPSUIT!!!! I love her.

  14. Neelyo says:

I want to know how they got Frances McDormand to attend!!

  15. Alexandria says:

I’m shook Frances is there but she brought it! Loved the drama!!!

Lynda looks like a glamazon goddess as usual.

I really liked Cara’s headpiece. If that appeared at the Royal wedding it would be a hoot.

  16. HeyThere! says:

I actually really love Caras look! It’s on theme and unique. I like her first thought wasn’t ANGEL!!! This is fun and great. The headpiece is epic. I love all of it.

  17. VintageS says:

Love, love Lynda Carter and Francis, but, geez, most of them take themselves SO SERIOUSLY!

  18. Monique Barrow says:

I honestly thought Cara was best dress she stick with the theme

  19. Lucy says:

Frances and Lynda FTW!! I never thought FM would ever be into events like the Met Gala, but I love that she attended. She looked like she was having a great time!

  20. kittyhawk says:

Caras look was so original with the confessional reference, no halo, no devil, just a place to confess your your sins. Perfect!

  21. Grinning mama bear says:

Frances McDormand: blue is the colour of the Holy Virgin Mary. And that headpice makes you wonder who this is because all these leaf-y things float around the head. So I guess it is some kind of a riddle saying: any woman could be Holy Virgin Mary and that “virgin” shouldn be taken literally.

  22. Pola says:

Frances’ yellow gown was actually yellow pantsuit. Check out a video of her dancing with Pierpaolo whatshisface on Ig. I think it as Vogue who did all these short vids of people dancing or walking dramatically at the gala.

  23. Ellie71 says:

Lynda Carter is still so stunning.
Forget Christie Brinkley, I want Lynda’s beauty secrets.
