Who was the best-dressed York princess at the Serpentine Gallery party?

The Summer Party 2018 presented by Serpentine Galleries and Chanel - Arrivals

The York princesses pulled double-duty yesterday, attending Royal Ascot with the Queen and other family members, then changing their whole fashion vibes for an evening appearance at the annual summer party for the Serpentine Gallery. Princess Eugenie brought her fiance Jack Brooksbank, and they’re really growing on me as a couple. Maybe I’m totally off the mark, but the vibe I get from Jack is that he’s “nice but dim,” as the Brits would say. He’s a lovely bloke who treats Eugenie like a princess, but he’s never going to set the world on fire with his intellect. Which is fine. Eugenie wore this black-and-purple one-shoulder tunic thing with leather pants (??), all of which is cute, but the outfit is all about those crazy shoes.

As for Beatrice… it felt like she was tagging along with her sister, honestly. Eugenie is the artistic one, the one who works for art galleries and has all of these connections in the art and fashion worlds. That being said, Beatrice and Eugenie are both regulars at this summer party, so it wasn’t a tag-along situation. Beatrice is the last single girl standing of her generation, doesn’t it feel that way? Her dress here is Mary Katrantzou. I like it?

I also didn’t get a chance to post any photos of Bea and Eugenie at Royal Ascot. I honestly forgot, and it seemed like photographers weren’t going out of their way to get shots of them. I hated what Beatrice wore – a dress by Claire Mischevani which is way too conservative and matronly for a woman of 29. Eugenie wore an Osman wrap dress which…I actually like, even though I think it looks so costume-y. It looks like something a character would wear on an episode of Poiret.

I’d recommend finding the full story on the Daily Mail with all the pictures from the event – some of the pictures of our ‘celebrities’ are beyond amazingly bad.

  2. OriginalLala says:

Eugenie’s tunic is awesome, love the colours. I wish the Royal ladies would rock bolder colours and prints more during official events instead of the pastel, beigey or solid looks they tend to favour.

    • Janet says:

      Agreed!

I just don’t get why they always wear drab pastels. If you look at royal women from other countries, e.g. Mary of Denmark or Maxima of Holland, they wear all sorts of colors, patterns and modern designs for official duties. I get that the BRF tends to be more conservative than many of the other European royal houses, but when the Queen herself favors bold colors I just don’t get why the younger royals always stick to cream and beige.

    • anika says:

This – Eugenie and Beatrice both looks great with colour. All the royal ladies – except the queen and princess Anne – looked dull or bland at the Royal Ascot.

    • Bridget says:

The York girls wear color and patterns all the time. In fact last year Bea wore a KILLER red dress to Ascot.

    • PrincessK says:

Both girls look good but Eugenie’s shoes messed up the outfit, and her fiancé should have complemented what she was wearing by trying to look a bit more casual and relaxed rather than wear a suit he would be going to the office in.

  3. KathNitenDay says:

Beatrice is strikingly beautiful. Gorgeous woman.. I wish she had the help of a stylist to really elevate her look.

    • Alix says:

She needs to back off the eyeliner. It’d be much more flattering on the upper lid only.

      LOVED Eugenie’s Ascot look.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

She looks like her father but she also looks a lot like a young Queen Victoria.

      • PrincessK says:

Yes, she does and the family knows that she looks like Queen Victoria. She had a part as an extra in a film about Queen Victoria. Amazing how genes travel…..

    • stephka says:

I think Beatrice is extremely funny-looking. It just goes to show that everyone has different taste!

      • Originaltessa says:

I don’t like her looks either. Something off with her mouth area. Her sister is pretty though.

    • Milla says:

I love her dress, not the Ascot one, the other.

She’s pretty girl, people are really cruel when it comes to York sisters.

    • SlightlyAnonny says:

I’ve always thought Beatrice was the definition of jolie laide. Her eyes are ginormous and her jaw is strong (both York princesses have strong jaws) but there is something so striking about Beatrice. I like looking at her.

      • Olive says:

Her big eyes are really beautiful and expressive, definitely striking, especially with her hair pulled back in these photos. The ponytail is flattering on her.

    • Spicecake38 says:

Beatrice needs to keep doing that ponytail. She looks really pretty it suits her features well.

  4. Becks1 says:

I think Beatrice looks great at the party and nice enough at Ascot. it is a little matronly (a little Kate-esque) but it’s pretty enough. Her dress, coat, and shoes for the party were all great though.

I almost liked Eugenie’s outfit for the party. If it was a dress and not a tunic with those leather pants (I thought it was a dress as I started to scroll down) I would love it. As it stands….so close Eugenie, so close.

I think E looked great at Ascot though (I love a nice wrap dress) and if the hat didn’t have that tassel I would really love it. I would like to point out that her dress is lovely and simple and not super fancy, for all those saying Meghan’s dress was “too casual” – it was about the same level as Eugenie’s.

    • Honey says:

I don’t like Eugenie’s Ascot outfit so much but I truly could. She seems to just plop her clothes on. Her vibe is plop em on and let’s go. I also had to look twice at the tunic. I like it but didn’t see the pants at first. I looked twice because my thoughts were that her shoes were too harsh for the dress but upon my 2nd or 3rd look I saw the pants and was ok. I like that outfit better than the Ascot affair.

As far as Beatrice, she seems to have been really trying these last 5 or 6 years to up her game and I think she has succeeded. She has hits and misses but she tries to be style conscious and I think she has begun to dress more for herself than anything else. The Ascot outfit was ok, I guess. I liked the dress she wore to the gallery but would like to see it without the jacket.

      • Becks1 says:

Honey I agree, I think Beatrice has upped her fashion game. She is dressing more for body and even if some of the prints and stuff aren’t my thing – bc the York princesses do love a good print, ha! – I appreciate that she seems to be more confident and having more fun.

  5. Digital Unicorn says:

    Ascot – Eugenie
    Serpentine – Beatrice

    • notasugarhere says:

Ditto. Eugenie is too fond of those trench coat-like dresses, but this one works for her.

  6. jferber says:

Somehow it’s hard for me to distinguish which sister is which.

    • Becks1 says:

Same ha. I keep looking at Digital Unicorn’s comment above yours and thinking…..Eugenie. Ascot. Gray wrap dress. Beatrice. Serpentine. Dress and jacket. When I see pictures of them I can tell them apart, but when I just see the name it takes me a minute to put the name to the face.

    • PrincessK says:

One is more friendly and more popular.

  7. Maria F. says:

i like all the outfits, but Beatrice’s for Ascot. It seems very heavy and stuffy. Lovely colour though.

I do feel bad for her. Being the only single and her long time boyfriend getting engaged shortly after meeting the next woman…. Supposedly she will go to the wedding – hard for me to believe. Even if you stay that close to your ex, if i was the bride I would have an issue with that for sure.

  8. Weedarkone says:

    It’s Poirot. 😉

  9. ChrissyMS says:

Beatrice at the Gallery and Eugenie at Ascot. They are both very cute girls. I feel like sometimes Beatrice does not photograph well but in videos she looks better. Beatrice will meet someone. She has a lot going for her. Attractive, social status, MONEY. It will really come down to what her taste in men is. Will she pick a bad man? She may already be dating and we don’t know about it,

  10. OSTONE says:

I thought they weren’t allowed to rock nail polish other than nude? Anyway, Beatrice at Serpentine and Eugenie at Ascot.

    • Olive says:

isn’t the nude nail polish only rule just when they’re at royal events (basically a work dress code)?? the gallery opening was off-duty for them

    • notasugarhere says:

They’re not official “working royals” so no part of BRF royal dress code applies to them.

    • PrincessK says:

Diana often wore red nail polish.

  11. minx says:

Love Beatrice’s gallery look! That pattern is wonderful. Eugenie looks good, too.

  12. homeslice says:

I love Eugenie’s evening look, minus those hideous shoes. Neither did it for me at Ascot, but at least they are interesting…not boring beige all the time.

  13. Mego says:

They both look fun – nice to see modern looks for a change. Getting a bit weary of queenwear on young women.

  14. Amelie says:

Eugenie has an Instagram and I started following her. She seems really cool and approachable, it’s too bad she doesn’t get more coverage. I get the same vibe from her fiance. Not the sharpest tool in the shed but he is crazy about Eugenie and just wants to make her happy.

I like both sisters’ outfits at the evening event at the gallery, especially Beatrice’s dress. The Ascot dresses are a bit matronly but the fashion there is never going to be edgy among the royals (other guests go pretty wild from what I’ve seen). They are representing the Queen (and with her) and no one is going to be walking around in hot pink or lime green or crazy patterns. Only the Queen wears super bright colors so everyone can find her. I like the York sisters and I feel like their coverage is so skewed due to their parents’ shenanigans.

  15. Reece says:

Ascot: Eugenie (Bea’s dress looks like something Kate would wear)
Serpentine: Beatrice (I actually like Eug outfit but she needed a little punch up to her hair and makeup.)

  16. Malachite says:

I LOVE Beatrice’s dress at the party. Wish the leather coat wasn’t covering up the gorgeous print action on the dress in this photo.

  17. Char says:

I love Beatrice’s peacock dress and the whole outfit. I find her very striking in general. This is the best she has ever looked.

  18. Lucy says:

Both ladies looked lovely at the art gallery. I would wear the hell out of Beatrice’s full outfit.

  19. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch says:

I think it is sweet that they both wore dark print dresses with leather accessories. I like that Bea takes fashion risks and I hope she finds a partner in life who supports her wild choices.

  20. Olive says:

Beatrice by far. Love the leather jacket, the shoes, the dark red toenail polish, and the bag. I think the peacock print is just OK but she pulls it off with the accessories.

  21. Anastasia says:

I’ve always thought Beatrice is so strikingly pretty. Those eyes!!!

  22. YankLynn says:

I made a face seeing Beatrice’s Ascot dress as it has the same puff sleeve top we just were ripping on Kate’s for with her Trooping dress. Combined with that lace brocade or whatever, just seemed very dated and matronly to me. I’m not ready for that sleeve treatment to come back yet — designers put it away for another decade please !

We saw Eugenie’s party shoes at some other event and they are not growing on me – crazy a** shoes girl.

  23. MeghanNotMarkle says:

I don’t like the shoes on either sister at the party but the rest is wonderful. As for Ascot, I didn’t like Bea’s look, as it was so heavy and looked out of place. Eug’s look would’ve been perfect without the graduation cap tassel hanging off the side. I know some people love it and I normally dig a bit of whimsy, but this isn’t working for me.

  24. Natalia says:

Beatrice for the win. Eugenie needed a fascinator to complete that outfit. I like the shoes but they were too weird with that wrap dress. Bea looked really polished. Love the dress.

These young women really did not look very good at the Royal wedding I’m sorry to say, and I usually do not like their style at all, but Beatrice looks really good here.

  25. TexOka says:

These two really cant dress themselves. It is terrible. They try SO hard and it never works. The clothes wear them. They need to simplify instead of trying to be fashionistas and go for the whole less is more approach.
