Faith Hill and Tim McGraw cover People, say they watched TV for 20th anniversary

People Tim Faith

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill cover People Magazine’s July 4th issue, because nothing says ‘Merica like country music, right? Tim and Faith have been together since 1996 and celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary in November.

Tim, 51, and Faith, 50, released their first album of duets together, The Rest of Our Life, in November. They are currently touring together in the Soul2Soul World Tour. (Soul2Soul was also the title of their Showtime documentary which debuted, along with Faith’s amazing legs, late last year.) In People, the couple share the secrets to their success and they’re definitely #relationshipgoals for me.

”Date nights” are still a necessity:
“We just saw Springsteen on Broadway the other night in New York and it was the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen,” says McGraw. “Watching him and Patti together was magical.”

When touring together, alone time is key:
Says Hill, “We both have our daily routines and we have our own dressing rooms. We each have our own space to retreat to so we do get time to ourselves.”

Mutual admiration doesn’t hurt either:
“Tim is the absolute best entertainer, hands down,” Hill tells PEOPLE. “He can bring a crowd to their feet with the motion of his hand. He knows how to deliver songs to the fans and make them feel like he’s singing to them.” McGraw counters, “She’s such a powerhouse that it forces me to raise my game every night.”

Keeping things low-key is just fine:
“Funny, as we get older it’s less about the big gestures and more about just spending the time together at home,” says McGraw. “For our 20th wedding anniversary, we stayed home, in our pajamas and watched TV,” he says, “we loved it.”

Tim and Faith are about to have even more time to Netflix and chill, as they are soon to be “empty nesters.” Two of their three daughters, Gracie, 21, and Maggie, 19, are in college and Audrey, 16 ,is getting close to her high school graduation. Tim’s former publicist, Holly Gleason, told PEOPLE that “The girls are old enough now that if Mom and Dad want to focus on music together, it’s less of a problem and more of a kick.”

As a part-time country music listener, I have to admit I kind of dig Faith and Tim. They seem like good people. Last year, they spoke out for “common sense” gun control . Last month, Tim released a Spanish language version of his song “Humble and Kind.” While Tim hasn’t made it a political statement, you can sense some undertones, especially in our current situation. When the song was released, he told Billboard, “I’ve said repeatedly that ‘Humble and Kind’ has a universal message, so singing the song in Spanish, for me, is a way to really stand up to that statement.” He added that, despite the fact that his Spanish is less-than-perfect, “if I can reach out and touch someone in a language that’s not my own – that’s a good enough reason enough to try.”

I’m not a country fan at all, and I super dig Tim and Faith. They seem like the real deal and walk the walk.

  2. MelGam says:

    Love this two!

  3. Veronica S. says:

Honestly, I am kind of impressed they’ve made it this long. Kudos to them for handling the spotlight so well and balancing two successful careers with a family in tow.

Faith is my favorite female singer of all time.I know she sings with Tim,but I would love a new album from her. I remember how “this kiss” became THE big country crossover, and later on came “Breathe” and “Cry”.I am really no country fan but her music is beautiful.

      • Mel M says:

“This Kiss”!! Oh wow does that bring me back. I don’t listen to country anymore but I still love Tim and will listen to all of his old stuff. Thinking of them and Tim’s music reminds me of the beginning of mine and hubs relationship. In high school listening to country at the beach all day. My only worry was getting a tan and putting just enough sun-in on my hair. Those were the dayssssss.

      • Spicecake38 says:

Mel M sounds like we’re about the same age!I was in college and nursing school around that time, and I rember taking her CD cover for this Kiss to the salon and had about 9 inches cut to emulate her style, and everyone loved it and then short shaggy hair was IT.Now if it asked for that cut a young stylist would have zero clue 😉Like Tim too,but he’s just a given hit maker and that’s fine, but Faith’s music is just extra special IMO😊

Super love them, just really, a bit more effort into the 20th? It’s a big deal these days, making it that far and still being truly in love. My husband and I are super low-key, but I’m really glad we made a big deal of the anniversary and of each other on our 20th. I guess to each their own, though.

    • Pandy says:

Well, if you’re touring the world most of the year, I guess staying in your jammies watching netflix is a treat. Probably never their norm.

  6. Millennial says:

I would say it’s fairly well known in the country music community that Tim is a democrat. He just doesn’t advertise it much for obvious reasons, given his fan base.

  7. Louise177 says:

Tim and Faith have always been open about their liberalism. They aren’t extremely political but haven’t hid the fact especially the last 10-15 years. I really like them both individually and as a couple.

  8. BooBooLaRue says:

Countdown to divorce in three, two, one . . .

  9. Happy 21 says:

I’m so surprised that they are still together given that it was widely rumored when they first got together that she got knocked up super fast to keep him. However, they’ve stood the test of time and kudos to them for that! I saw them last year on tour together and it was pretty okay. Not great because I’m not a big fan of sappy ballads but good enough.
Humble and Kind is a lovely song but Tim did not write it and so many articles seem to make it sound like he did.

  10. Jag says:

That’s a strange cover for celebrating a couple’s long tenure. They’re not facing one another, and the only parts that are touching are her back and his arm. Very awkward.

He definitely need to keep the beard. I never liked beards until dating an ex, and now some men must have them. lol

Good for them that they figured out how to last so long and raise a family.
