Rachel Bilson on co-parenting: ‘No matter how much anger there is, it’s about’ our daughter

Rachel Bilson is promoting that new show she’s in with Eddie Cibrian, Take Two, which just premiered on ABC this week. I feel bad that Bilson’s career has come to this, because Eddie Cibrian is like the Ted McGinley of current character actors except not as attractive or talented. Bilson was with Hayden Christensen for about ten years and they have a three and half-year-old daughter together. When news came out of their split, US Weekly, which has had exclusives about their relationship for years, had the news that Bilson found suspicious text messages on Christensen’s phone from his costar, Emma Roberts. (For what it’s worth Roberts stayed with Evan Peters, whom she’s broken up with multiple times.) If you were wondering if things were amicable between Bilson and Christensen, probably not. Here’s how she describes co-parenting with him, as if it’s hard and she hates it but she does it for their daughter:

Briar comes along to the Canadian city of Vancouver, British Columbia, when they film, and though Bilson doesn’t have a nanny, her mom helps out when she’s working.

Bilson is also open about the challenges of co-parenting with Christensen, 37, whom she dated for 10 years before they split last September. “We’re still kind of trying to figure it out,” she says of their “work in progress” dynamic with Briar. “It’s a tricky one. And I don’t know that there is any right way, necessarily.”

“We say Mommy has a house and Daddy has a house but she’s pretty young to have an in-depth conversation,” continues The O.C. alum. “Most important for me is that Briar is okay and secure and stable. No matter what I’m dealing with or how much it hurts or how much anger there is, it’s just about her.”

[From People]

Bilson also said that Briar “Needs to feel loved from the people she loves the most. She has that love that is unconditional so I think we’re doing okay.”

That’s sweet that her mom is there to help her out with Briar when she’s on set. My mom would have done that for me when my son was little. As for what she said about co-parenting, you get the sense that there’s a whole interesting backstory there that involves more than just some text messages she found. Bilson showed a lot of restraint with the press, she gave a measured sourced statement to just one outlet and she hasn’t done a dishy interview. She’s telling us that things are messy but that she’s not going to get into the details, which is of course her prerogative. I wish she would spill a little more as it would make my job easier but she’s saying plenty here.

I love it! Not another “We’re best friends” statement. She dragged him and I love her honesty

I know! I wish we could find out some dirt.
      She is so pretty.

    • Bazoo says:

My daughter, who coincidentally bears a striking resemblance to Bilson, is going through the same thing. Her ex-husband is a dirtbag but you do what you have to do for the sake of the child. Kids aren’t stupid. They eventually figure things out and it’s never a mistake to take the high road. Kudos for Bilson.

    • Danielle says:

He cheated….with Emma roberts?! If I! She seems so horrible.

  2. Esmom says:

She is so adorable, love the Vans with the dress. And she seems like a real pro. Her interview was friendly but not too revealing and she seems to be promoting her show with her icky costar with no problem.

  3. Christin says:

With her co-star’s track record, she’ll be using the word “No” quite often. And she’ll be looking for another job soon, unless they get smart and recast his role.

She looks like Ed’s daughter, not a love interest.

    • Pix says:

Agree. Cibrian is show killer. Not interested in him as a love interest, ever. I love her, but her talents are wasted against that loser.

  4. Gaby says:

    She’s lovely.

  5. Toc says:

Finally a celeb that doesn’t come out with the old “we are best friend and we still love each other and we will easily co-parent out children”.

  6. klutzy_girl says:

As much as I dislike Eddie Cibrian, Take Two is a really cute summer show and I’m enjoying it so far.

    • MissyLeigh says:

I agree! I am really liking this show. It reminds me somewhat of Castle and I loved that show. I’m definitely enjoying Take Two and hope it stays on the air.

  7. elimaeby says:

She looks so uncomfortable next to Eddie. The lack of chemistry there is palpable. She is truly ageless and gorgeous.

  8. Muprhy says:

How did I not know that Rachel and Hayden had a kid?!

  9. Jillian says:

Eddie and LeAnna looks so much alike. It’s the eyes.

I like Rachel. She seems to be a great mom and sometimes things don’t work out but you adapt to the circumstances.

    I wish the family luck

  10. Annie says:

Enty lawyer was on a podcast last week and he said that Rachel is one of the nicest people in Hollywood but that she puts up with a lot of crap. I think whatever she found was worse than just a few texts. You leave if there was an affair.
Also, Emma and her man have one of the most toxic relationships I have ever seen. Cheating, domestic violence… And they keep getting back together. Poor dude. Proof that men can also be trapped in abusive relationships.

    • Lily says:

Yeah Enty is always bragging about how much Rachel does for charity and she seems like a great person.

I will never ever forget what Emma did to Evan. Total double standard. It makes me sick.

      He got made fun of

I love her so much, she brings so much fun to the screen. Hart of Dixie was so cute and funny, I miss that show.

  12. ladida says:

I have always loved her, she comes across as genuine. Maybe I’ll go home and binge watch Hart of Dixie tonight.

  13. lamaga_hyun says:

I wish the best for her, and I’m sure it’s not her fault, but this show is terrible. I’ve made it through the first two eps and the writing ranges from cliched to flat out cheesy. Wish her career were in a better place.
