Scott Pruitt resigned from head of the EPA after 17 months of non-stop corruption

I’m not going to lie, last week was really, really hard on me. It was hard on a lot of people, especially the children still being held in concentration camps. I was incredibly depressed when Justice Kennedy announced he was retiring from the Supreme Court, and all I could think about was: GAME OVER. We’re done. There’s no coming back. But this week has been restorative in a lot of different ways. I actually had the time to sit back and rest and relax and not think about politics (because Wimbledon!). Plus, these dumbasses keep showing their asses.

Scott Pruitt was appointed the head of the EPA in Donald Trump’s first weeks in office. Even at the beginning, there was a laundry list of dumb sh-t and corrupt sh-t and more coming out about Pruitt. Pruitt spends money like a drunken sailor and then expects the taxpayers to pick up the tab. He was literally in bed with lobbyists. He had his staff run personal errands for him. He tried to use his connections to get his wife a Chick-Fil-A franchise (I sh-t you not). He literally walled himself off from staff at the EPA. There are like a hundred more things on this list. It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet of corruption, illegality, shadiness and unethical behavior. And now this dumbass has turned in his resignation.

Scott Pruitt, the former Oklahoma attorney general who relentlessly pursued President Trump’s promises of deregulation at the Environmental Protection Agency, resigned Thursday after a cascade of controversies over his lavish spending, ethical lapses and controversial management decisions finally eroded the president’s confidence in one of his most ardent Cabinet members.

Pruitt’s reputation as a dogged deregulator and outspoken booster of the president allowed him to weather a litany of ethics scandals in recent months, including questions about taxpayer-funded first-class travel, a discounted condo rental from a D.C. lobbyist and the installation of a $43,000 soundproof phone booth in his office. But revelations about his behavior continued to mount, including reports that he repeatedly enlisted subordinates to help him search for housing, book personal travel and even help search for a six-figure job for his wife. That quest included setting up a call with Chick-fil-A executives, in which he discussed her becoming a franchisee, as well as outreach to a conservative judicial group that eventually hired Marlyn Pruitt.

[From WaPo]

I mean, it’s good that Pruitt is no longer in charge of the EPA. Take a moment and celebrate that. But then come back and realize that his temporary replacement is just some dude who will continue to deregulate and continue to rape the environment (replacement dude was a coal-industry lobbyist). And remember that Pruitt should be in jail too – there’s zero reason why he should have been allowed to tender his resignation, he should have been fired because of a massive criminal investigation into his many crimes.

Here’s Pruitt’s resignation letter. He claims he’s resigning because of “unrelenting attacks on me personally,” because he’s a butthurt baby who wanted his wife to have a Chick-Fil-A franchise, somebody call the waaaambulance.

I still don’t understand why he wanted a used mattress

    • Chrissy says:

Apparently it was from a Trump hotel and this man seems to stop at nothing to ingratiate himself to the Orange Turd. I think it’s disgusting. I’m glad he’s gone though. The gall of this man!

      • whatWHAT? says:

completely apparent from the way he prostrated himself to 45 in his resignation letter.

and it sickened me how many times he mentioned God and being “blessed” in his resignation letter…this man is NO CHRISTIAN…the way he treated the earth that (in his mind) God provided us with, the way he treated staff and spent money unethically/illegally…he’s got a lot of nerve claiming to be a Christian. he can just f*ck right off.

    • Beth says:

That’s kind of weird. And it had to be from a Trump hotel. If I’m buying a mattress, I want a clean, new one, not a used one that hundreds of strangers have slept on

    • Kitty says:

Everything about this is strange, but the used trump mattress has to be the most bizarre part of it

    • Darla says:

Besides being staggeringly corrupt, there’s something wrong with him. Nicole Wallace on MSNBC is the only one (to my knowledge) who hits that. She’s always like “he’s weird!”. And he is. He’s a real weirdo. Something is seriously wrong. Just read that letter he wrote to trump. A study in slavishness and writhing on the ground like a worm before your King, but…enjoying it.

      • Kitten says:

Yeah the freakiness and the shamelessness is strong with this one. Super-creep.

      • magnoliarose says:

He is incredibly off. It was more than corruption. I think Nicole W. probably knows some dirt but can’t say but he strikes me as someone with some strange habits. I don’t mean the regular adult, not vanilla stuff. I mean weird. His paranoia and exacting demands about mundane things just don’t ring right.

      • Darla says:

Hi Kitten and magnolia! My two fav CB’ers. 🙂

      • magnoliarose says:

        😘

      • The Other Katherine says:

And he has ALWAYS been a grifter and a creep. Every Oklahoman who isn’t addicted to the Republican Kool-Aid knew it (and even some reliable Republican voters did too). While his replacement will be equally horrific in his eagerness to destroy the environment, I’m still utterly delighted that Pruitt is going home to Oklahoma with no appointed or elected position and very little he can offer in exchange for the sweet, sweet lucre he is used to cadging off lobbyists and CEOs for companies that want unlimited rights to pollute. It is worth taking a moment to savor.

  2. Runcmc says:

Uhhh I find reading a resignation letter that name-checks god of all things is deeply unprofessional. In my industry we leave religion at home. I know this is the *least* of the signs but wow so much for separation of church and state.

    • Lightpurple says:

And that God wanted him to destroy the environment.

    • BengalCat😻 says:

Separation of church and state in American politics?! 😂 No.Such.Thing.

    • Chrissy says:

They don’t care about ethics or anything. Geez, Sessions went so far as to misquote the Bible to justify separating families and kidnapping and jailing infants!

    • Esmom says:

It really does strike another blow at separation of church and state. As if Trump cares about god. It’s all about signaling those “Christian values” to the base.

    • Indiana Joanna says:

That God appointed 4.5 to the presidency.

That letter was so creepy bizarre. As though it was written by Mother’s husband Pence’s slavish self degradation in service to master lord drump. With a dollop of drump’s monstrous self pity.

    • Christin says:

There is so much to unpack in that letter.

As for damaging the environment, he may think he’s helping speed us up to the predicted end of the earth. Nah, it’s all about greed and money.

  3. minx says:

    Next up for him: Jail.

    • Jan90067 says:

Yeah right… IF there was any justice in this world, that whole Republithug, fake, hypocritical “Christian” swamp would be led out in chains for treason/high crimes (there are NO misdemeanors here folks!). I am so fed up, and yes, scared, by all that is going on now.

My only joy is knowing Dump Blimp Baby will be flying over London during his visit. Shame they couldn’t get it closer to Windsor, where he’s meeting TQ (apologies to all Britain for subjecting you to our sh!tstain).

  4. Beth says:

There is no better example of “swamp creature, ” that Scott Pruitt. All the sleazy scandals that we knew about, and of course Trump still says he was a good guy doing a good job

    • Vava says:

yes! I hope he has to pay back the taxpayers with a fine. Of course, Trump would pardon him, I’m sure.

  5. grabbyhands says:

I can only give this a weak “yay” because I know what he’s going to be replaced with will be just as bad or even worse. This monster should be going to jail right now but he’s sailing off into the sunset.

I’m not even that religious of a person, but these treasonous morons constantly invoking God (especially in regards to the 45 presidency) offends me on a deep level.

    • Esmom says:

My reaction was the same. Yes, Pruitt had to go but there’s no way his replacement will be any better from a policy perspective. I also agree that his letter was deeply offensive.

The only real positive I took from this is that his resignation is proof that at least the power of shaming is still effective.

    • Indiana Joanna says:

Same here Grabby and EsMom. His resignation only puts a period on all of Pruitt’s sick venality and the damage he’s done to the world’s environment. But there are more like him queuing up.

And his letter showed how unfit he was with his infantile mindset. He just wanted to be like drump, so he ripped through every environmental reform while enriching himself by stealing everything he could from our government. I hope he’ll be escorted out because he’ll steal anything not locked down.

    • holly hobby says:

Well he could have been the next AG. He was lobbying Orange nazi to fire the elf and install in in that position. Could you imagine the damage he would have done there? I want him disbarred and broke. Possibly in prison.

    • The Other Katherine says:

A big fat YES on the constant blasphemous invocation of God. I’m not a believer either, but I think that if there is a deity worthy of human worship, the LEAST we can do is not use him/her/it to constantly flatter ourselves and suck up and use our extra-special personal knowledge of God’s will to be unendingly shitty to people we think are beneath our consideration. I don’t think Jesus in particular would have been cool with that.

  6. Lightpurple says:

That butt-kissing letter of resignation was a plea for a pardon. I think we’re going to hear of more illegal acts from Pruitt.

    • magnoliarose says:

I think the same. He is skating right now but I don’t think he always will.

  7. Kitty says:

This is a great article, explains a lot of Pruitts corruption

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/21/us/politics/scott-pruitt-oklahoma-epa.html

    • Indiana Joanna says:

Didn’t read the entire article because of paywall, but it’s telling that he made $38,000 while rubbing shoulders with millionaires. He obviously was seething with indignity and felt entirely within his right to steal and plummage for himself.

The resignation letter shows what a truly dim fellow he is. He was never going to make decent money with any talent or smarts.

      • holly hobby says:

He has a “dumb” face. Sorry some people’s faces just project stupid. He makes W look like a genius.

      • Harryg says:

Yes he has that weird vacant look of a lunatic.
        Awful Creep.

    • ATLMathMom says:

That was a very interesting article! The audacity of these people amazes and disgusts me. Can’t believe that I’m agreeing with Laura Ingraham about anything, but he is the swamp!

  8. teacakes says:

    ‘Unrelenting attacks on me personally’

You mean like that mother of a toddler who approached him while he was eating and very politely told him to resign because he was ruining the environment for future generations?

    • BearcatLawyer says:

It worked. Not all heroines wear capes.

    • magnoliarose says:

They seem to have a hard time with face to face confrontation. It seems to bother them so I encourage more people to do it. Why should they get a moment’s peace while they destroy the well being of millions? Make them feel the blowback with unrelenting regularity.

    • Christin says:

One thing I found amusing about that polite confrontation is that he was apparently in a public restaurant for lunch.

There had been a story last month about how he had been routinely using the small WH mess hall, which is apparently only for certain WH officials. He had to be asked/told to stop using it.

  9. Jane says:

It’s really incredible how terrible this Scott Pruitt is/was/will always be.

  10. Becks1 says:

Maybe there wouldn’t be unrelenting attacks if you would stop being such a corrupt a-hole. Was anything reported wrong? no? then STFU.

Of course his replacement is just as bad for the environment. Trump isn’t going to appoint someone to head the EPA who “likes” the EPA and we need to accept that to a certain extent. But it is something that Pruitt was effectively shamed out of his job. It took a long time, but it happened.

  11. Neelyo says:

I’m not happy about it because he should be in jail. Also for the last few months there has been talk of him replacing Sessions because he could fire Mueller. I worry this will allow that to happen.

  12. ME says:

Could the man have let at someone edit his resignation letter? That writing is cray.

    • Lightpurple says:

“That is why is hard …”

    • BearcatLawyer says:

Cheeto Mussolini wrote it or at least edited it.

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, it was truly cringeworthy, both in style (or lack thereof) and substance.

    • Beth says:

Look who he wrote it to though. Trump probably needs someone to read letters to him that are longer than 2 sentences and have words with more than one syllable. Trump wouldn’t notice something is worded wrong, even if it’s being read to him. Believe me.

    • ME says:

Ugh, of course I had a typo in my own comment critiquing someone’s writing. Sorry, Internet Gods. I had that coming.

  13. boredblond says:

A millionaire bible thumper who lies, steals, extorts..are these people completely incapable of seeing the hypocrisy of their lives? He won’t be punished for his crimes..and yet someone sending an email critical of the right’s new god, Lord of lies, will lose their job..too much insanity and ignorance..

    • whatWHAT? says:

he’s one of those “Christians” who thinks he rich and where he is because God put him there as some kind of “reward” or “blessing”. he “deserves” to be there. so, ergo, anything he does is “blessed” by God…raping the environment, stealing, etc.

you poor? well, you must have done something to deserve God’s wrath. you’re not worthy, so you don’t matter.

I guess they forgot that Jesus hung out with the poor, the sick, the “unworthy” and BOY did he have some harsh words for the rich who weren’t charitable.

      • Christin says:

They also fail to remember the parts about the meek inheriting the earth, and how the first will be last. The rich man and the eye of a needle parable also escapes their attention.

  14. Lady Medusa says:

“I believe you are serving as president today because of God’s providence.” You have got to be sh-tting me. This is 1/3 resignation letter, 1/3 butthurt white man whining, and 1/3 love letter to a crazy racist/sexist. Pruitt can’t even be professional for the 20 minutes required to write a resignation letter.

    • Lucy2 says:

      Seriously.
Hey God, these people are doing awful things in your name, might be time to break out the ol’ lightning bolts.

    • holly hobby says:

Hey Putrid the Orange Nazi didn’t get that job because of God. It was bought and paid for by the KGB and all those treason weasels sitting in Congress.

  15. Neelyo says:

Pruitt has an extremely oversized head. One of my friends calls him ‘The Walking Candy Apple’.

  16. Eric says:

Wanting a used (probably stained) mattress from Emperor Zero’s Dump Tower was probably a loyalty test from Pruitt to some poor staffer.

Enjoy your “hand lotion,” SP…in hell.

  17. Tania says:

I’ve been thinking a lot about the state of this country and what it means long-term. I know locking babies up in jail is new to many, and that’s great. You know America has been locking kids up in various types of jails for as long as its existence?

Yesterday a coworker of mine was talking about a police incident near their home and I told her to invest in a scanner. Growing up, as soon as the technology was out there, people owned scanners. Before that, it was just a cb radio. Before that, I don’t know what they used. Word of mouth probably. But because indian agents and the RCMP would come to communities to take babies away from their parents, people would alert everyone that the police were coming and try hide their children. It happened in Canada and it happened here.

Now the point of this post isn’t to make everyone feel guilty but to show we’ve survived it. We survived the cages, we survived their twisted attempts of assimilation, we survived the attempts to extinguish our culture. This isn’t the first president to try a form of ethnic cleansing against brown people. He won’t be the last. But we survive. If this is your first taste of seeing this happen, feel privileged you never had to grow up with this trauma. There are many times I have to check myself and understand it’s because of a childhood where my parents were in constant fear of us being taken away like they were. But we overcame. We are relatively healthy, happy and thriving. My nieces and nephews are growing up speaking their language and participating in their culture. They are proud of who they are and where they come from. They are the success stories of our ancestors resistance and persistence.

  18. Rapunzel says:

Pruitt is vile. And Trump is trying to minimize the significance of this by screaming about immigration and how ICE is “liberating” towns from MS-13. Total bullsh*t, all of it.

    • holly hobby says:

ICE doesn’t liberate towns. They are like mall cops around the border. Only now they are empowered.

  19. BlueSky says:

I mean, can’t a man be openly corrupt and destroy the environment without dealing with the consequences and be called out on it? Witch hunt, ya’ll! 🙄🙄

  20. Tiffany says:

Yeah, this ain’t coming out of nowhere. If he did not GAF then, why now.

So he is either gonna be the next AG (and fire Mueller) or they are gonna try and put him in Kennedy’s spot.

  21. Wendy says:

Well, crap. We thought we got rid of one of our “distinguished” governor’s favorite fanboys. Pruitt’s antics pale in comparison to our governor’s; she just better at keeping people quiet. I’m going to amble on over to “The Lost Ogle” to read his take on this recent development.

  22. trh says:

    Oklahoma politicians are the worst.

    • The Other Katherine says:

The Republican ones of the last 2 decades are, that’s for sure.

  23. Miss Gloss says:

Eff. This. Dude. So tired of all of these people!!!

  24. Vava says:

Kelly will be the next to go, but in his case it’s more like a rat jumping from the sinking ship.

  25. holly hobby says:

His resignation letter is disturbing and totally unprofessional. So is he trying to suck up to the Orange butt or what? How is this guy an attorney? I want his disbarred and I hope he files for bankruptcy because something tells me he is spending more than his income.

Oh yeah buddy, just because you resign doesn’t mean the criminal investigations stop. Nope those are still ongoing. Expect to be indicted.

  26. Liz version 700 says:

That letter is something else. Unprofessional, creepy and just so weird. Oh great and joyous supreme Trump I live to serve thee? Basically like a cult prayer. I agree with an earlier post there is more creepy about to come out about this guy ugh…..

  27. notasugarhere says:

@Kaiser, this might cheer you up a bit. The mayor of London has approved the flying of a giant Trump Baby balloon over London on the 13th during his downgraded-everyone-is-protesting visit to the UK.

  28. adastraperaspera says:

I have hated him for years, as he allowed frackers in Oklahoma to unleash hundreds of earthquakes there and up into the state of Kansas, where we have our family farm. Many home foundations have been ruined, and there is often no recourse, because you can’t prove it was the quake. Robust earthquake insurance isn’t even available due to the risk now. It has improved after he left for D.C, and Kansas sued Oklahoma. But then he just went on a rampage to ruin the whole country. I hate his guts. Pardons will never come for him, as Trump got what he needed from this nut (endless distractions from Russia). Send him to prison!!

  29. belladonna says:

Pruitt gamed the system. Wants to see the guillotine back. There’s quite a few who deserve it.

  30. Sarphati says:

I encourage anyone to follow in the footsteps of Ms.Mink and hold these criminals accountable for the damage they have caused. Perhaps that restaurant confrontation was just what was needed to drive that vermin back into his hole. If it worked once, we should keep at it. Desperate times and all that.
