Duchess Meghan wears Carolina Herrera for the Sentebale Polo Challenge event

Harry Meghan Sentebale polo

Doesn’t it seem weird that there’s a big charity polo match in the middle of a Thursday? Maybe I’m just a peasant, but I thought polo was for the weekend?? Cue the Dowager Countess quipping, “What is a weekend?” Today, Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex attended a polo match at the Royal Berkshire. The polo was a charity fundraiser – ?? – for Sentebale, which is one of Harry’s big charities. Sentebale is the one Harry started years and years ago to support AIDS work in Lesotho and help kids.

For this event, Meghan went for a dark color, which is a consistent thing with her. I don’t mind that she wears black and navy a lot of the time – those are my favorite colors too – but I just wish that she would mix it up a little for daytime events. Save the black and navy for evening stuff. Meghan’s dress is Carolina Herrera, and I’ve convinced myself that the material is stiff denim. It’s pretty but… is this really a daytime summer look for an outdoor event? I don’t know, I’m really asking. If the fabric was different (something light and floral?), I would love this. The silhouette is great and retro, and it suits her figure. Love her bun/chignon too.

Hey, isn’t it weird that we haven’t heard anything from Thomas Markle in more than a week? I would say good riddance, but I feel like this is the calm before another sh-tstorm.

Let’s enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts…

  2. Abby says:

I would 1000% wear this outfit. Super cute.

    • Milla says:

Lovely dress and adorable purse. Great outfit. Now speaking of wedges, wouldn’t they look awesome? Nothing against the pumps, just considering the previous story…

    • Morning Coffee says:

I agree. It’s lovely. And I bet it is more of a denim-look linen than actual denim.

      • Milla says:

Its not linen, linen would wrinkle. This is cotton and it looks lovely. It’s polo match, why are people saying negative stuff? She cannot wear haute couture to polo.

And btw this is rather cruel sport, those poor horses… I don’t wanna even think about them.

      • Mel says:

I have wide leg denim -linen blend pants. They don’t wrinkle badly , hold their shape well and they are about the same shade.

    • FC says:

It has pockets! And she’s using them!

      • Lilly says:

My first thought. I love pockets. But, she probably doesn’t have keys and tissue and a cough drop in there.

    • ariana says:

The dress is really cute, it just doesn’t look that great on MM. Unfortunatley MM just does nothing for all the designer clothes she wears. She has the weirdest body shape.

      • Mae says:

Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder because I think she looks lovely. She actually elevates what to me usually looks like simple outfits or silhouettes.

      • ex-Mel says:

Nothing particularly weird – she just doesn’t have the waist (or rather, the waist/hip ratio) to wear the kind of belts she’s been using.
I also don’t think that navy/dark blue suits her complexion, but then I have a strong dislike for navy/dark blue in general.

      • Alix says:

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how her body shape can be considered weird AT ALL.

    • FuefinaWG says:

I’m a fan of Carolina Herrera’s and I think this dress is cute. I think it’s great for this event. The one thing, though, is that the belt is the wrong size for her. Sure, belts are supposed to be adjustable but the post should fit into the middle ring or the next size smaller for a proper fit.
I’m sure I’ve pissed off a lot of stores by switching belts on dresses (in secret) before purchasing them.

  3. Lightpurple says:

    I LOVE this dress!

    • Clare says:

I like the dress but it looks very very heavy for what is turning out to be hottest day of the year. It is blistering hot out and I would not want to be in a dark dress made of seemingly heavy fabric!

Her face, as ever, is perfection.

      • Jan90067 says:

Agreed. Perfect silhouette, put in a lighter fabric, or even color, would be better for a daytime event. I liked Kate’s recent polo outfits from Zara, cute, cool for the heat. While I *love* Meg, it’s almost like she’s dressing for the “part of princess at polo” a la Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday.

She looks lovely, but too formal for a daytime match.

      • KidV says:

I love it but it does look heavy. If the skirt weren’t so stiff it might not look so heavy, if that makes sense.

Very retro, I’d wear it. With my Stuart Weitzman wedges I mentioned in the other post. LOL

      • MissM says:

If you look closely it’s a cotton dress, not denim. The material just has the appearance of denim until you really look at it. I’m wearing a light blue cotton shirt right now that has the same stitching.

      • Sherry says:

I agree! Everything about this look is perfect!!!

    • Septy says:

I hate it. It looks like dated denim, pulls at the arm pits and bust with wrinkles, that belt is hideous too.

Looks like something I could buy for $20 at walmart. Cant believe its designer and probably cost a fortune.

      • eto says:

        Walmart??? Really?

      • Peg says:

Tell me which Walmart, and I will be there in a jiffy.

      • SympathyRage says:

I had a similar dress from ModCloth a few years ago, and it was so adorable. It was denim, not printed cotton, but a very fine weave so it was actually cool enough that I wore it yearly for Independence Day festivities even though it is over 100 degrees in summer here. I LOVED that dress, and I love hers, but I don’t like the pinching in the armpits, either. I will say, however, that at least it bloody fits her, unlike That Dress I Can’t Bear To Look At Up Close. You know the one. *scowl*

      • magnoliarose says:

        At Walmart? Nope. lol

      • FLORC says:

        Sympathyrage
        This is 100% modcloth!
I love the retro styling, but do not pull it off in that silhouette. And the underarm issue caught my eye too. Overall I like this look.

This is not Walmart…. and if it is… where is this beautiful Walmart

    • SlightlyAnonny says:

This is her silhouette! It flatters her figure so much and the color is great. The dress may look heavy to some, but I’d rather it be heavy than flying around her ears in a breeze. It’s a great look.

    • LahdidahBaby says:

I love the dress, too, and would totally wear it. The whole look is good for Meghan, including the hair.

  4. OriginalLala says:

oh this is super cute, casual and pretty. I actually have a dress that so similar and the silhouette looks great on a variety of body shapes. While it’s not my style, I am digging her simple, no fuss approach to styling.

the only thing i would change? too much blush, or contour (whatever the darkish smudges on her cheeks are!)

  5. Ctgirl says:

    She looks lovely.

  6. Vogue says:

Nice dress but the material looks too heavy. It’s scorching in the UK, a more summery look would have been better!

  7. Anna nuttall says:

Love the look. I have a similar dress and it perfect for this UK heatwave. She look really lovely.

  8. Jane says:

    The dress has pockets!

I must have this in every colour.

I pray Thomas got a visit by 3 ghosts and saw the error in his ways!

  9. Muffy says:

I don’t understand this fondness for cement-like fabric. This would be cute this fall.

How lovely would this dress be in a linen? Or a light cotton, in a pale color?

    • Masamf says:

Honestly, this is the first time I read people complaining about denim in whatever weather, now I get why this is CBers, LOL. AFAIC, denim can be worn anytime. Meghan looks fabulous from head to toe. I was gonna post before I saw the vid clip, thankfully I didn’t as pictures give a much different picture than when you watch a video. The only thing I would have changed would be the shoes, maybe flat shoes as opposed to heels. But it looks like they’re walking some sort of “red carpet” so maybe this warranted heels, not sure. But Meghan looks gorgeous and personally, this is a dress I would wear, any time, any day, anywhere.
Fingers crossed TM Sr. was “delivert” LOL.

      • Newbie says:

Well then that’s settled. If you think it’s great it must be great.

      • Erinn says:

Man, I live in Canada. On the coastline. In a province that doesn’t get nearly as hot as some others do this time of year. I wear denim to the (casual) office I work at. When I left the car the other day after driving home from work I felt like my legs were on fire. So I mean – I’m wearing denim comfortably in airconditioning – but I would have been miserable being outside.

      • minx says:

It’s okay for people not to like the dress.

      • hypocrites_all_around says:

Wow, you’re going over the top lmaooo. It’s only a dress, people can like it or not. Personally, I think it’s a bit too formal for a hot summers day at a Polo event. I remember she wore a formal evening gown to the Polo event last year, too.

      • FLORC says:

Bottom line. If shes following the basics. Not flashing cameras. Suitable for event and comfortable… idgaf. Because she’s nailing this so well we’re nitpicking assumed fabric density to temps on the thick side. That’s it! Chica is poised and presentable.

  10. Dee says:

I don’t like this look. It’s too heavy for daytime and doesn’t do anything for her small and thin frame.

IMHO her fashion was best when she was still doing Suits. Her stylist there knew how to make Meghan look absolutely amazing.

    • Natalia says:

Also agree. She looked absolutely amazing on Suits. And totally appropriate. In the office wear that is. Wonder what the Suits stylist is thinking these days!

    • Giddy says:

Yes! I’m a Suits fan and agree that she always looked great there. I wish that the Suits stylist could fly over a 2 or 3 times a year, go shopping for Meghan and whip her closet into shape. Having said that, I love this dress. She is buying some very classic looks, and I can easily see this dress repeated in 5 or 10 years, perhaps with the pearls or brooches that she will no doubt have.

      • Jan90067 says:

Or even a great scarf belt in complimentary colors. I just bought a huge scarf (navy, red, tan, white, yellow, deep pink, lavender, and green in the print) to fold and use instead of a regular belt for jeans and some tan and navy linen pants I have. It looks really cute, and is definitely a nice change up from a plain belt. Plus, it goes great with my red shoes (and now I have a reason to buy the cute green ones I’ve had my eyes on! hehehe 😊)

Said scarf also looks GREAT tied triangularly around the neck, draping in front!

        Love versatility in clothing! 😊

    • Mego says:

I honestly believe that she was curvier and healthier looking in suits. She has lost weight.

      • Ellie says:

I think she was simply younger in Suits. We can’t stay young things forever. She is a perfectly beautiful, healthy woman now but older.

  11. Jess says:

I like the silhouette, it is great and it suits her, though I don’t like the big belt.
This dress is not the most expensive outfit she’s worn, but this would’ve been a perfect opportunity for her to wear a high street brand, something less expensive. I know she’s going to be criticized no matter what, but this would’ve been a good chance to show that she doesn’t only wear these expensive brands.

She looks good though! And the pockets??? Yes, please. I love them

  12. Lumbina says:

I think it’s a nice look, but yup, it looks like thick denim to me too and it’s sooo hot here today!

  13. Angie says:

That’s honestly one of the ugliest dresses I’ve ever seen..yikes .
I mean I like the shape but I can’t with the denim look , so tacky .
Though she’s so gorgeous that she can wear anything .

    • minx says:

Agree, the shape is very cute but that stiff dark denim looks like something I wore in the 70s—a decade that wasn’t exactly a high water mark for fashion.

      • V says:

Haha I’m the exact opposite, I love the denim, hate the shape and fit, especially around her underarm area. I am actually a huge fan of 70’s fashion in general and 70’s denim in particular!

      • minx says:

        V—that’s great! Do your thing.
I remember having several different dark denim outfits…a one piece farmer’s overall. And then I had a knee length denim jumper dress. And, if you can believe it, a floor length (!) denim jumper. I wore that to a Christmas party with a blouse and the ever-present 70s short silk scarf, tied sideways around my neck. I thought I was the height of fashion.
I will say that 70s fashion looks better than 80s fashion in retrospect.

      • Milla says:

        Minx

70s are one among most important decades for fashion music, movies… The silhouette is 50s, but i love that 70s vibe, it is in now and it will be in again in 10 yrs. You cannot escape that decade, it was freedom of expression in every art form

      • minx says:

Milla —There were definitely beautiful clothes, like Halston, etc. and I generally prefer the sleeker silhouette of the 70s to, say, the puffy/prairie 80s silhouette. But there were many, many butt ugly clothes too. Orange and brown and neon clothes, wide white belts on men, platform shoes, gaudy polyester shirts, polyester everything, gigantic lapels and ties. We were married in 1978 and looking at some of the pictures… luckily my dress was simple and straight, with a sweetheart neckline, sheer long sleeves. You could wear it today. The men’s tuxes weren’t bad either, beige, and my bridesmaids wore simple long sleeveless wrap dresses that tied at the waist. They looked great! But some of the guests, hoo boy, were they dressed badly. My brother had a huge permed Afro (we’re white), a corduroy suit with enormous lapels, and big platform shoes. And the miles of sideburns.
        It’s fun looking back.

      • magnoliarose says:

70s chic was great. 70s day to day regular folk clothing and styling was something else altogether. One of my favorite photos of my grandmother is from the seventies. She had on a white pajama like pantsuit and these huge sunglasses. Her hair was in a sleek knot. Her jewelry was on point. The woman was killing it in the 70s. She’s always been a clotheshorse but that one photo is one of my favorites. Old pictures of her never look dated.

Flash to my cousin’s bar mitvah circa 76 and I will only say Jewfros were on full display. I spied some unfortunate frosty eyeshadows in the group pictures.

  14. I’d wear it and it looks like they are both dressed for the same event.

Pockets, I do love me a skirt with pockets!

  15. Feebee says:

Really like the dress and it suits her but I agree too that it doesn’t scream summer charity event.

  16. Amelie says:

It’s Sentebale and it helps kids affected by AIDS in Lesotho. 🙂

Love that outfit, would totally wear it. I’m glad it’s not floral. Also whenever I think floral all I can think of is Meryl Streep’s sarcastic voice going “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking!”

    • JanetDR says:

Hahaha on Meryl’s voice! There is no way she could wear this in the evening b/c then everyone would be fainting over that fabric – clueless Yank! Although it doesn’t look that stiff or hot to me.
If it is actually demin – it’s a lightweight gauge.

    • minx says:

My daughter and I quote The Devil Wears Prada all the time. One of my favorites: Emily Blunt, flapping her fingers: “I’m hearing this. And I want to hear THIS.”

  17. Ks says:

Sentebale is spelled three different ways in the first paragraph…

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Ooh, sorry I didn’t scroll prior to posting, as I said the same, below.

  18. lolamd says:

Can anyone ID the sunglasses she is wearing?

  19. Q T Hush says:

Great dress! The color, style and fit is perfect. Plus, I love a dress with pockets, which is an extra benefit. Absolutely appropriate attire for the day. I want this dress!!

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I think this dress is fabulous, as well. More Herrera!

      • minx says:

Veronica—I am definitely coming around to thinking she should start wearing some British designers, and stat. It’s not like there’s a shortage of wonderful clothes she could pick.

      • formerly known as Amy says:

But if she buys british designers now what is she going to do with all that free bridal trousseau she received?

      • hypocrites_all_around says:

How do you know she has received anything free? As far as we know, Prince Charles foots the bill for all engagements. Now I don’t know whether they pay full price for outfits, but it still comes from that money pot. MM probably bought some pieces over from Canada, but her working wardrobe is mostly funded by him.

    • FLORC says:

Mini side rant. Dresses with pockets… they are amazing. Yea… pockets, but they’re big, functional pockets like in men’s pants! The inventor of dresses with pockets is an unsung hero imo

  20. Citresse says:

The dress has a retro look. I could see Princess Margaret wearing it back in the 50s.

  21. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Watch your autocorrect & spellcheck. The name of the charity is spelled three different ways in the first paragraph.

    Damn you, autocorrect!

  22. Valiantly Varnished says:

I would wear this in a heartbeat. That dress is gorgeous. I havent been disappointed in her style at all. With the exception of the pink Trooping two piece and the Ascot dress I’ve loved everything she’s worn so far.

  23. Starryfish29 says:

It looks to be a chambray dress, I’ve always thought chambray was a perfectly summery fabric. I do wish this had been in a pretty floral print bough. I love Delphine’s dress, and Delphine is such a pretty name too.

  24. VSK says:

The dress itself is nice, but the fit around the shoulders is terrible.

  25. Maria says:

I like the top but not the bottom. Skirt is too full and too long, and too heavy.

  26. Ramona Q. says:

She looks like Soleil Moon Frye.

    • Nickname says:

OH MY GOD YES!!! I always that she looked a lot like someone but could never think of who!

  27. MellyMel says:

I love this dress and would wear it in a heartbeat! But those sunglasses tho…gorgeous!!

  28. Beth says:

Pretty dress, but it’s not a color or material I’d wear on a sunny, sweltering summer afternoon

  29. Nancy says:

A late September dress. Too dark and heavy for July, but I like it! Somebody is listening to the crowds, Harry is dressing a little better, got rid of the blue on blue look for a change. Miss Meghan has the skinniest legs I’ve seen since junior high. She is a little cutie!

    • hypocrites_all_around says:

Yes, Harry is dressing so much better than before. It’s the Meghan effect. Scruffy shoes, crumpled shirt/trousers weren’t a good look!

  30. Beck A. says:

Nice dress but those heels are ridiculous for this kind of event.

    • CMiddy says:

I totally agree. I work in the City and am currently wearing flip flops in the office. My law firm has instituted a casual dress policy due to the heat. I would not want to be wearing closed toe shoes let alone heels. And stiletto heels are totally inappropriate for grass.

  31. InquisitiveNewt says:

She looks absolutely exquisite. For the Daily Heil naysayers (and unnecessary references to Kate, whom they saw photos of wearing high street dresses sans her hefty jewel collection precisely twice) – bloody well get over it. The amount of seething racism masquerading as resentment really turns the stomach. – Incidentally, perhaps she is appearing in new and costly outfits on every occasion is because a) she didn’t have such a wardrobe when working California girl chic b) expensive clothing lasts, and lasts, and lasts.

    • “The amount of seething racism masquerading as resentment really turns the stomach.” <-Thank you!

Meghan looks lovely, the cut of this dress really flatters her frame, and those sunglasses, so cute.

    • hypocrites_all_around says:

You know, I think Kate got ahead of the game with her cheap high street outfits. She knows the public like to see high street clothes on celebs, and her wearing them as a Royal makes her seem down to earth and normal/regular. ” Look, she wears Zara, how great of her to not spend so much taxpayer money!” Lol. This is exactly what Royal families should be showing to the public. I think Meghan might be missing the mark slightly. Both of their clothes are expensive, but if MM continues with the really expensive outfits for each occasion, the criticism will start flowing even more and no one will be able to say it’s not justified. Kate knows she can wear her jewels and other pricey stuff in private, but for certain public events, throwing in high street/mid-range labels is a win.

  32. Cerys says:

I don’t like this dress. It looks heavy and is too dark for a summer event. The skirt emphasises her very thin legs and not in a flattering way. It looks a bit strained across the shoulders and bust too.
Other than the dress, Meghan looks lovely. Her hair, make.up etc all look good and she seems very happy.

  33. Winnie Cooper's Mom says:

Side note: Props to Harry for not wearing the navy suit/white shirt for once lol

  34. Digital Unicorn says:

I love this look, the dress, style and silhouette really suit her. She is def starting to rock a classic vintage look, i love vintage.

  35. M.A.F. says:

Hate the shoes but love the dress.

  36. Linda says:

I like the dress but it would be nicer in a lighter weight fabric. This looks too stiff and makes the botton too flared. It makes her legs look way skinnier than they even are and the heels dont go with the dress

  37. Elaine says:

“Sentebale is the one Harry started years and years ago to support AIDS work in Sentabale and help kids.”

Huh??? Check wiki and add some basic correct information lol

  38. violet says:

Sigh. Yet again, expensive (non-British) designer dress doesn’t fit properly up top, loads of cloth, dark heavy material on a very hot summer day in the country, and shoes that look odd with the dress, and other ladies dressed very differently.

I don’t dislike the idea of the line of the dress on her, but this dress cost about $3,000. It seems to me that the pretty green flowered dress with the frilled neckline that she wore to the Stephen Lawrence memorial in the spring would have been perfect here – it makes me feel overheated just looking at all that heavy dark cloth on a dreadfully hot July day in the country (I saw in the DM the record temps in Britain and across Europe, but we won’t mention global warming, clearly it’s a hoax, right? Right?).

    • Masamf says:

@Violet, no one really knows the cost of their clothes, not even Kate’s. And even if its 3000 quid, don’t they all wear dresses in the same price range? All of them starting from HM to Sophie of Wessex, their outfits are super expensive, aren’t they? Personally I believe if they all get discounts on everything, cars, groceries etc, chances are 100% they get huge discounts on clothes. Wailing about the cost of their outfits is futile.

      • violet says:

My point about the cost was that, as with many of her outfits, it doesn’t fit properly – at that price, it should fit beautifully. This seems to happen frequently with her, as the gray Givenchy dress in Dublin where you could see the entire outline of her strapless bra under the too tight and wrinkled top.

And as I said once, I don’t think the public expects her to come out in stuff from TJ Maxx (much as I love the store!), but I do think at these prices they expect her to support British fashion. Listen, I’m not British, maybe I’m wrong and they don’t care, I’ll take advice from British posters on that. But most of Kate’s clothes are British, she wears foreign design labels very infrequently.

I’m not wailing at all – I’m not the British public, I’m just pointing something out that I figured was a given. But as I say, I could be wrong and maybe really no one cares.

      • formerly known as Amy says:

This is part of her bridal trousseau, which is probably why she is wearing non-british designers.

      • hypocrites_all_around says:

Masamf_ haha, you should copy and paste this comment on all of the posts which go on and on about Kate’s/William’s (and all the rest) taxpayer spending then. Because from looking at past posts this issue always comes up with certain members only.

  39. Bliss 51 says:

I did a conversion for 35C. The other day the high in my town was 109 F. Amateurs.

    • violet says:

@Bliss 51 – our poor dogs are really having a hard time. They are both old, and while inside they are reasonably comfortable, walking them is getting less and less advisable, and so they’re bored, as well.

The map of Britain in the DM was really scary. I’ve only been to England twice, and it was summer, but it was just lovely, much cooler than New York City. But that was more than a decade ago.

I’m always stunned at people who think they don’t have to worry about the effects of global warming for another 100 years or so. Like, kids, it’s here and it’s now.

Sorry about the OT but this denial stuff makes me crazy.

    • Olive says:

“Amateurs”?? geez it’s not a competition. It’s hot in the UK by UK standards. You don’t win an award for living in a hotter climate, in fact an area with those temperatures is sooner to become inhospitable due to climate change anyway. Nothing to brag about. besides, living somewhere that hot means you are far more prepared, likely with central air or A/C, than the UK or Europe are for heat waves. Remember that Italian heat wave years ago that killed a bunch of seniors? were they “amateurs” too??

  40. Mimi says:

    She looks boring as usual.

  41. Skylark says:

Lovely, very retro. The fabric (denim? cotton mix?) does look a little heavy for the current weather but Meghan clearly wouldn’t be wearing it if she weren’t comfortable in it. People’s tolerance for heat varies so much and what’s hellish for those of us unused to this type of heat/humidity in the UK may just be a normal summer’s day for her.

    • Nic919 says:

Mid 30s is normal summer weather for most of North America along with a lot of humidity. It is why AC is the norm here. This is unusually hot weather for the UK but not for Toronto or California.

    • Skylark says:

Exactly. I’m just amused by the idea that Meghan would choose to wear something that caused her unnecessary discomfort! So many posts saying it’s way too hot for that dress, it’s too stiff, it’s too heavy, it’s too this, it’s too that, not realising that they’re projecting their own heat exhaustion onto Meghan.

If she was actually feeling the heat/humidity that most of the rest of us are experiencing, then clearly she’d have chosen something lighter and more flowy for this outing.

In all the pics I’ve seen, she looks cool as a stylish cucumber.

      • Olive says:

That’s a classic case of a over functioning personality – yuck. I can’t stand people telling me I must be uncomfortable, too hot, too cold, whatever, in what I’m wearing. Back off and leave other people’s clothing choices alone. Stop trying to create and solve problems for other people.

      • IlsaLund says:

It’s amazing the amount of projection folks are making in these comments. Meghan must feel comfortable wearing the dress, or else she wouldn’t wear it. No comments on whether Harry’s jacket is an issue for him in the heat.

      • hypocrites_all_around says:

Yup, I agree, There’s too much of this on these Royal threads.

“Back off and leave other people’s clothing choices alone.”

  42. BegoneOrangeCheeto says:

I love the style of the dress (which, unfortunately, I can’t wear because I am SO short waisted) and I love her hair. I’d definitely wear both.

I do wish she’d wear less couture-names and more British designers. That’s my ONLY critique.

  43. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

    Love it!

  44. BearcatLawyer says:

Meanwhile in Houston, I drove past this store the other day:

    https://www.thomasmarklejewelers.com

I assume it is no relation?

    • magnoliarose says:

Haha. Poor poor man. He was just living life as Thomas Markle Houston Jeweler and but now he is associated with THOMAS MARKLE grifter and bad father. I wonder if people think he is related.

  45. Vava says:

I like the dress on her.

The only things I would change are 1) move the part in her hair to the side, 2) change the belt to something thinner, and 3) wear a lower healed shoe with some sort of pattern on it.

    She’s beautiful.

  46. D says:

I’m my eyes she can do no wrong so far except that sleeveless trench, this may be my favorite but it’s my favorite “classic” look already that dress is awesome and yes to light weight dark denim #LongLiveThePrincess

  47. Melanis says:

She’s wearing a denim dress. I love it!

  48. magnoliarose says:

It is a lightweight denim fabric from a resort collection which means it was meant for this season and warm weather. The color is navy but the fabric isn’t heavy.
The denim makes it a daytime dress and not something I would wear at night. Maybe for a casual dinner because it isn’t formal but nothing beyond that.
She looks pretty and I like the whole outfit. I would change the shoes but it is a minor complaint.

  49. Claire says:

I’m not a fan of Meghan nor do I think she’s a beauty but I do like most of her clothing choices.

  50. ladida says:

The dress is not my taste, but it’s very flattering on Meghan and completely occasion-appropriate.

  51. Lizzy says:

It’s boring and those sleeves do not make the armpits look good.

  52. Kathleen says:

Meghan looks fantastic! I love her dress, it’s very flattering on her. The wrap top and full skirt help give her more of a waist. Love it!!

  53. Ib says:

I don’t like it. The length and the big belt especially —something about those proportions make it feel dated to a decade or few ago, or else what would otherwise be a chic outfit today albeit for a much older woman

  54. Melanis says:

I just saw the Meghan and harry kiss. So cute

    • Peg says:

Let’s talk about that kiss Meghan laid on Harry, his friend is handing him the trophy, and poor Harry don’t know what day of the week it is.
Keep on talking about the dress, while the Duchess takes care of business.

    • magnoliarose says:

Oh my. The other guy is like “Here’s your troph..y…oh.”

      https://www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/latest/a22561679/meghan-markle-prince-harry-kiss-polo-match-pda/

      Love makes me happy.

      • formerly known as Amy says:

Harry is like, “I already have my trophy.”

      • notasugarhere says:

From People’s coverage of it. That “guy” is polo player and model Ignacio Figueras.

“She’s lovely, she’s wonderful. I’m very happy for her, for Harry.” Figueras, the captain of Harry’s team and an ambassador for the Sentebale charity, tells PEOPLE of Meghan. “They’re both lucky to have found each other and have this new chapter of their life.” Asked if the couple are enjoying married life, he adds, “I think so. They seem very, very happy.”

      • Bella DuPont says:

        @ Mags

Errrr….Any video? I feel like I need to see a video…… I need a closer look at that nail polish. (Clears throat)

      • magnoliarose says:

Heh heh Bella. I whipped out my monocle for the very reason you stated. Just to look at polishes and stuff.
If you scroll down it is on Omid Scobie’s Twitter box. He keeps touching her. All those reports about how in love they are shows best when they are in motion. 🙂

      • Bella DuPont says:

Awww……what a chaste little kiss….this couple make my toes curl 😍😍💕…….cheers Mags, I know I can depend on you for the forensic detail! 😘😘

    • hypocrites_all_around says:

      Awww. This is so cute!!

  55. Lukie says:

I love dark colors year round. I know she is a California girl, but Toronto and NYC are similar with our love of dark colors year round so, maybe she picked it up there?

Or maybe she is a closet goth girl 🖤🖤🖤

  56. Michael says:

Life is just an endless red carpet for this one now

  57. Hikaru says:

She has lost a scary amount of weight. In that first photo the bones on her chest are casting a shadow and her legs are reaching Angelina Jolie skinny stage. There is no reason a healthy 36yo woman should look like AJ who has had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, went through a cancer scare and gave birth to multiple children.

I went through her older photos from even just a couple of years ago and she had lovely well shaped legs and looked very healthy. Is there a Starve-the-new-bride rule in the royal family I don’t know about? Kate had visible bones on her chest in her wedding dress photos too, I couldn’t look at her dress without being distracted.

    • hypocrites_all_around says:

I’ve seen MM older pics, and even in the fairly recent ones from a few years back, she wasn’t naturally small framed. Her legs, thighs, arms, etc were fuller. She has lost a lot of weight.. but she was an actress so maybe she felt the pressure. Hopefully, she doesn’t go down the Kate route. She also had a fuller figure and dieted herself to where she is now.

  58. Amelie says:

Meanwhile no one’s harping on the fact Harry is wearing jeans? Meghan’s denim dress may not be as heavy as it appears. I used to own a chambray/denim skirt for summer and it was one of the lightest, airiest skirts I owned.

This reminds me of when Meghan wore olive to Prince Louis’s christening and everyone proclaimed olive was only a “fall color” and could not be worn at other times of the year. Meanwhile I see olive all the time on summer clothes–t-shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, and I’m like where are these people from??

    • hypocrites_all_around says:

With the christening, there seemed to be a white and light blue colour palette – the clothes and background were carefully selected. For Harry’s wedding photos there was a carefully selected green colour palette going on. MM in the olive felt a bit too heavy for a summer christening. The Oscar de la Renta dress (if tailored properly) would have been perfect for that event.

    • notasugarhere says:

Olive was a fine, neutral choice for the christening. If she’d shown up in the blue and white pattern, she would have been accused of attention grabbing.

  59. Sparkly says:

I think she looks lovely, but I don’t really like the denim look.

I wonder if TM has become a bit more circumspect now that ‘sources’ finally turned on him. I’d be great if it lasts, but I agree with you and love how you phrased it as the calm before the sh-tstorm.

  60. Tara Beth says:

I love this dress. It’s very 1940s in its shape and the color is great on her.

  61. Stephie says:

I love the look from top to bottom. @Kaiser, I f*cking loved the Downton Abbey reference. I just finished the show. Had never watched before last weekend. Do you know if Henry & Tom Branson (Matthew Goode/Allen Leech) will be in it? I know Goode is filming a kids movie in Ireland this month. Does Downton start filming in early Sept??

  62. Peg says:

BBC and ITV banned the Markles from appearing on their celebrities show, fear of losing access to the Royal Family, due to any embarrassment Markles may cause the family.
Let’s hope Vonnie did not make too many plans for that six figure salary she was suppose to receive.
She is going to all over Meghan for losing this paycheck, after trying to act so coy, about appearing on Big Brother.
Now if The Sun, would stop paying Thomas for future interviews, all the Markles would crawl back under their rocks.

  63. Betsy says:

Ooh! This fabric has echoes of Claire McCardell! Gorgeous!

  64. artistsnow says:

The dress is amazing. The armpits are FINE. They are supposed to be creased. There are creases all over the top. It’s adorable. Harry is wearing PANTS AND A JACKET!! I cannot believe all the posters complaining the dress is too hot. lol. Meghan looks VERY cool.

    LIttle stunned at the comments.
