“Anne Hathaway is not here for hate crimes, racism or white privilege” links

The murder of Nia Wilson- may she rest in the power and peace she was denied here- is unspeakable AND MUST NOT be met with silence. She is not a hash tag; she was a black woman and she was murdered in cold blood by a white man. White people- including me, including you- must take into the marrow of our privileged bones the truth that ALL black people fear for their lives DAILY in America and have done so for GENERATIONS. White people DO NOT have equivalence for this fear of violence. Given those givens, we must ask our (white)selves- how “decent” are we really? Not in our intent, but in our actions? In our lack of action? Peace and prayers and JUSTICE for Nia and the Wilson family xx Note: the comments for this post are closed. #blacklivesmatter #antiracist #noexcuse #sayhername #earntherighttosayhername

No lie detected Anne, no lie detected.

    • ME says:

It’s horrific. These girls were just minding their own business and then out of nowhere get attacked by that man. The police say they aren’t sure of the motive but the man had a criminal record and mental health issues. The thing is, he targeted two black women, stabbing one in the neck…she died right there. My God that is horrible…only 18 years old. May she rest in peace.

      • Tiffany says:

History of mental health but no motive.

Good old standby for white terrorist in this country.

      • minx says:

I grieve for Nia, she was a beautiful girl with so much promise, my daughter’s age.

      • magnoliarose says:

Horrible is too tame a word. I don’t have any words for what happened to the poor young woman just beginning her life. My heart aches for her and her family.

    • adastraperaspera says:

RIP Nia. So glad Anne made this statement.

    • Lilly says:

Yes, @Tiffany they always seem to have “mental health” issues, when a POC would be a “terrorist.”

      • Snappyfish says:

Exactly this. I am sick to death of white peiple having “mental health issues” but black, brown, yellow or red are terrorists. This needs to stop. This person is a murderer. Plain and simple. Well done Anne.

      • paranormalgirl says:

As a psychiatrist, I cringe at the “mental health issues” as an excuse/explanation for violence. Let’s stigmatize those with mental illness even further, shall we? The vast majority of people with mental illness are not violent and do not target of a specific ethnicity.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“The vast majority of people with mental illness are not violent and do not target of a specific ethnicity”

        Great point.

Her death is so tragic and horrifying.

      • Ye says:

Dont you have to be motivated by a political or religious ideology to be a terrorist? I havent followed the case so I dont know if they have uncovered that yet.

I agree that white men often become a «shooter» instead of «terrorist» even when the label fits of course.

      • otaku fairy... says:

Her sister ended up having to watch her die and initially wasn’t even really aware of her own wound. It’s so sad. Kehlani had spoken out about it early on too.

      • Lee Kuhl says:

Absolutely, as the POC are murdered, they never declare it to be a hate crime now, which baffles me since the change of society feels that they have the right to harass, threaten and cause distress or harm on POC. These are hate crimes people, plain and simple!
On another note, RIP beautiful Nia.

  2. Millenial says:

Is it odd I really want to know which British VS model sends her kid to school with Prince George? I would say Rosie H-W, but I don’t think her son is old enough for Thomas Battersea. So, Lily Aldridge?

    • magnoliarose says:

No, Lily lives in Nashville. It is probably Jourdan Dunn. Riley is in the right age group at 8 years old. She is also beyond stunning and nearly 6 feet tall so she outshines 99.9 percent of the population. You can’t miss her.

    • Starkiller says:

      Lily Aldridge isn’t British.

  3. Biggles says:

Pardon? WHAT THE FRICK?! Frasier without Niles?? Without the ever-perfect David Hyde Pierce?! What an abominable thought; these heathens must be stopped immediately! Niles is pretty much my dream man (oh that witty, biting sarcasm) so if anyone it’s #bringbackniles all the way.

I’m a huge Cheers and Frasier fan (actually currently up to season 9 on a Frasier rewatch) but this revival would not be for me, nu-uh.

    • Dixiebells says:

Co sign. I have zero interest (beyond zero if that’s a mathematical thing) in Frasier without Niles.

    • Jerusha says:

For me, John Mahoney and Moose were the heart of Frasier. Don’t think I could watch without them.

    • Kiki says:

I absolutely love Frasier when I was child back then. However, I don’t really feel about the revival. I DON’T KNOW.

  4. Kiki says:

This is why I LOVE ANNE HATHAWAY. Thank you for your words. They are appreciated and thank you for STANDING UP FOR US. AND THANK YOU FOR SAYING “#Blacklivesmatter. This really means a lot to me as a black woman and all black people.

Nia Wilson… MAY SHE REST IN PEACE AND LOVE. My heart goes out to the family and close friends.

  5. Ae says:

I love that she turned off her comments so much. Thankful she spoke out, I wish more people would. Yep, I’m looking at you, Kardashians.

  6. Happy21 says:

And just like that, all distain I’ve had for Anne since Les Miz is gone.
How incredibly articulate and thoughtful of her to put this in the forefront – where it should be. Amazing post Anne.

  7. Wisca says:

Nia’s death and her sister’s stabbing should be a singular post not lumped in with other links.

  8. Hibitta says:

    wrong response!

  9. LadyLilith says:

I am glad Hathaway said what she said, it was well stated. However I am SO over giving “high-fives” and congratulating white people for doing the decent thing. Speaking out agaist the evils of racism and white supremacy is what they SHOULD do. It is especially important for white people who are in positions of power.

Call racists out whenever you see them. Shame them. Utilize your privilege to call attention to their unnaceptable behavior. Do it because it is the right and moral thing…

  10. Peanutbuttr says:

I live in New York City and knife attacks have become increasingly common if you use public transportation, especially past 10. The perps usually are homeless men who clearly have mental health problems

  11. Naan says:

BART rider here and I would say women in general, myself included, are increasingly afraid of a system in which white male tech workers have their own transportation system and us plebes are left to our own devices. The scary, the crazy, the obvy ppl I do not want to be stuck on a car or platform with is lengthy. God bless Nia and her family. And blessings on all the old, frail and female that are waiting on that same platform tonight. Lots more where that pscho came from.

  12. Betsy says:

I’m a Hathahater – she looks like my emotional bully from high school, a thing I just can’t erase – but good on ya, Anne.
