Chrissy Teigen on Thomas Markle’s toxic Mail interview: ‘This guy sucks’

Chrissy Teigen looks Smitten with husband John Legend while on a pizza and pasta dinner date

You guys know me, and you know that I’m not a big fan of Chrissy Teigen and her social media “branding.” Her branding seems to be… like, pop culture commentator, I guess? I just think she’s too much most of the time. That being said, if she wants to branch out into royal culture commentator, I’m here for it. Chrissy Teigen was online – when is she not? – on Saturday when the Mail on Sunday dropped their epic exclusive with Thomas Markle, in which he reached Peak Toxicity and crossed the line into full-on abusive towards his daughter, the Duchess of Sussex. Teigen had this to say:

Yes. Thomas Markle sucks. Why is it so difficult for people to say that? I mean, all of us in the cheap seats are saying it, obviously, because Thomas Markle does in fact suck as a person. But when it comes to professional royal commentators or royal-beat journalists or people who make their livings by offering “advice” to the royal family, it’s just crickets. Or worse than that, there are some commentators STILL blaming Meghan for not wanting to engage with her dad’s toxicity.

Teigen did another funny thing on Twitter too – she mocked the whole post-baby body humble-brag thing:

That’s funny. I love Chrissy and her family. John Legend seems like a really nice guy and their kids are so cute.

  2. JJ McClay says:

I love Chrissy. I think she’s honest, refreshing, and willing to take the piss out of herself. I also think she uses her platform for good — raising money, calling out bullies (like the Big Bully In Chief), and normalising breastfeeding and IVF etc…

    Also? She cracks me up!

And she’s speaking truth about Mr Markle here — when’s that man gonna let his daughter be?

  3. Vogue says:

Most will agree that what Thomas Markle is doing sucks, however I’m not sure that Meghan would appreciate outsiders slating her father. People can criticize members of their own family but start to get uncomfortable & defensive when others do it.

It’s ok to criticize your parents but many would not react well if others started to bash them regardless of what they might have done.

    • Nancy says:

Absolutely 100. Meghan certainly doesn’t need to hear what she already knows from an entertainer’s wife who comments on everything and everybody. Chrissy needs to know when to keep her trap shut. Like you said, keep it in the family. If only the media would listen.

      • Snap Happy says:

What does her being an entertainer’s wife have to do with it? Meghan herself was an entertainer. You sound like one of those Trump supporters who say entertainers should just entertain and not voice their opinions. Regardless of the fact they are tax paying citizens who have a right to say something. Especially calling about abusive men like Trump and Markle. Both are narcissistic bullies.

    • KB says:

I’d agree if her dad weren’t basically attacking her at every turn. At least half of the commenters on the DM are still condemning her for not speaking to him. I wouldn’t mind some public support at that point, even if it did come at the expense of my rogue relative. Especially if that relative really is awful and seems hell-bent on hurting and humiliating me.

    • Sparkly says:

As someone who grew up with abuse, it hurt exponentially when people witnessed it and said nothing. Abusers need to be called out, and survivors need to know they have allies. It’s a lonely, frightening place when you think everyone is okay with it.

    • Jamie says:

I disagree. When you go through something like this, there are so many more people who think you should continue to cater to your abusive parent than will support the abused son or daughter. It’s a revelation when someone recognizes that what the parent is doing is wrong.

I’ve said before on here that my mother is just like TM. It did me a world of good to see/hear others, both online and in the real world, say that that behavior is not okay.

I totally agree with Sparkly that survivors need to know that they have allies, particularly someone like Meghan who doesn’t have many high profile allies right now.

  4. Toot says:

She actually knew Meghan back in her Deal or No Deal Days.

I agree with her completely about Thomas.

    • Nikki says:

I LOVE it when Celebitchy posters tell us new details and include a link!!! (Like yesterday, when someone proved Meghan Markle can speak Spanish!). Thanks for this interesting tidbit!!

  5. B flat says:

I think for the Brit press to acknowledge Markle is a low life and an ahole would undermine their own exploitation of him and meghan. Hope that the longer he and his other daughter are out of the loop the value they’ll have. But for now I expect manipulative self-pitying “exclusives” from these idiots as we head into the holidays especially.

    • KB says:

I think they’ve learned they just have to say more outrageous things to get the same amount of attention. He’s out of the loop and has no exclusives to sell, so he says she wants him dead. He got a taste of those British media paychecks, and he isn’t going to give them up without a fight.

Completely agree about why the British press won’t call him out though. Why would they put an end to a story that gets them clicks and sells papers? Out of human decency? Lol Not gonna happen.

  6. STRIPE says:

The funniest part about that “fitness” pic is that she is (unknowingly?) shading her friends the Kardashians.

    • KB says:

My thoughts exactly. Especially with the weight loss tea part of the joke. I don’t think it’s unknowingly, more gentle ribbing. They are always pushing weight loss lollipops and tea and I think Chrissy probably side eyes all of that.

    • Obvious is Obvious says:

I could be wrong, but I don’t think John and Chrissy are friends with them anymore. Kanye is problematic and goes against everything they have been publicly fighting for. Anyway, I haven’t seen a picture of any of them together, or comments exchanged since Kanye’s slavery comments.

  7. Lanne says:

I’m glad she called him out. This way the story gets more traction in the media. I want all the celebs to pile on. The only ones who should stay quiet are Meghan’s actual friends. We live in a culture where celebs push news. That’s on us. But that’s how sympathy for Meghan can build in the general public. Now who’s going to write an article in the nytimes, guardian, wash post, Atlantic about toxic parents? What feminists will come out in support of Meghan now? Come on white feminists, show up and say something!

  8. Nev says:

Yayyy go on Chrissy. Love it.

  9. Christina says:

She always annoyed me, but she just made me a fan with that picture. Hilarious!

  10. CSaves says:

I think she’s may favorite celebrity in terms of social media.
She speaks her mind. She makes sense.
    She ridicules Hollywood’s ridiculous.
    She has a heart.

  11. Starryfish29 says:

The reason those ‘professional commentators” won’t say anything is because they have a vested interest in tearing Meghan down, whether it’s for the clicks or a personal feeling that she doesn’t belong. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that what Tom Markle is doing to his daughter is sick; if he were a man screaming these things at his daughter from the front porch people would readily call him a verbally abusive a-hole, yet doing it on a global platform somehow makes him a hurt father trying to reach out? Yeah right.

  12. SlightlyAnonny says:

I loathe her and her brand but this is her broken clock moment. More people need to say this.

  13. DizzyLizzy says:

I love Scamantha’s response to this. She is her usual bitter self and had the audacity to call Chrissy ‘Pancake face’.

This is a woman who regularly plays the victim when people attack her for her looks (or lack thereof).

    • SlightlyAnonny says:

Ugh. Don’t make me feel sympathy for Chrissy Teigen but something doesn’t sit right with me about that term. I am not up on my Asian slurs (possibly because I am neither racist or a bigot) but I do feel like I remember that “moon face” or “pie face” is a slur against Asians…and pancake face isn’t that far off… Scammy showing her true racist colors again.

  14. Sarah B says:

Nah, I love Chrissy Teigen. She makes me laugh when we need it. I don’t care if it’s her brand or whatever it is, but I like it.

  15. audfhauio says:

I love Chrissy. She’s funny as hell.

  16. Nicegirl says:

I like Chrissy and that shiz is funny. I laughed

  17. burdzeyeview says:

I feel for Meghan and wish her dad would STFU but hes nuts and wont. The gutter press are complicit because of the hatred Harry has had for them over the years …this is their revenge.

  18. ladida says:

She should not have commented. Perhaps her intentions were good, but she’s only fanning the flame. Now Samantha has responded.

  19. Mrs. Smith says:

@ladida–i saw that!! She called Chrissy a “pudgy airhead.” I cringed. If the Markles are willing to go to name calling, well, I’m not sure what’s next. Here’s hoping Chrissy can rise to the challenge and clap back like a champ!!!

    • burdzeyeview says:

Samantha needs taking down…maybe Chrissy can do it….or is she too nice? Cos Samantha will plumb the depths – look at what shes doing to her own sister. I’d love to see someone taking her on.

  20. Sass says:

“Chrissy Teigen needs to stop commenting on this because she’s not in the BRF”

…says everyone else commenting on it. 😂
