Prince William & Kate had a ‘rare night out’ in Mustique, partied with Mick Jagger

The Duchess of Cambridge carries Prince Louis as they arrive for his christening service at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, London

As we’ve heard, the Cambridge family was or still is in Mustique for their summer holiday. Prince William and Duchess Kate packed up their bags and their three kids just after Wimbledon, and they all flew to Mustique to enjoy a nice holiday with Carole and Mike Middleton, Pippa and James Matthews, and I would guess James “Boomf” Middleton is along as well. The idea was that their holiday would celebrate many things all at once, from Prince George’s birthday to Pippa’s babymoon to… the big anniversary party for the formation of Mustique as a celebrity getaway. As it turns out, Will and Kate did come out for the big party:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were able to enjoy some special alone time during their family holiday in Mustique last week. The couple, who have three children under the age of five, were spotted on a rare night out at the island’s famous Basil’s Bar. The theme of the bash, which was also attended by Mick Jagger and his daughter Jade, was a Splash of Gold.

Fellow revellers have exclusively revealed to HELLO! that William and Kate attended “on the early side” of the party and looked to be having a great time. Sources also told us that the couple looked “island chic” with Prince William sporting a Pinkhouse Mustique shirt to support the local brand. “They were there for the cocktails segment and kept it rather classy”, they said. The royal couple are good friends with legendary barman Basil Charles of Basil’s Bar; he even set up a pop-up bar at The Goring hotel in London, where Kate stayed the night before her wedding, during the week of the nuptials in 2011.

The Duke and Duchess, both 36, have been enjoying a much-deserved holiday in the private Caribbean island for the past couple of weeks. They are thought to have joined Kate’s parents Carole and Michael Middleton on the Middletons’ annual break and it could well have been the doting grandparents who stayed home with the couple’s three young children, while they enjoyed a rare night off parenting duties at the beach-side.

[From Hello]

“Much deserved holiday…” How times have changed, eh? Honestly, I wasn’t even mad when I heard that they skipped off to Mustique, and I’ve spent years rolling my eyes at their incessant “vacations.” Kate and William were tethered to London throughout the school year and Kate just gave birth to baby Lou. They actually did deserve a break. As for this party…sounds nice. I would have found it odd if they did NOT go to some of the big, flashy parties. Isn’t that the point of Mustique? Why go on holiday to Mustique if you’re just going to hang out with Carole and Mike? Kate and Will can do that at Bucklebury anytime they want.

To be honest, I like that after so many years together, they still enjoy each other.
The pictures of them at Wimbledon, and William looking at her with literal heart eyes were incredibly cute

    • Jan90067 says:

I know! Seems like they’ve either reached a point in their marriage or some understanding where they’re more comfortable showing each other some affection in public. Perhaps William is really responsive to this new, more confident Kate. Since this pregnancy, she’s seemed to relax and just “be”, with work and the kids. Perhaps all it took was her not hovering over *him* for him to appreciate her. 🤔😊

  2. Reese says:

Hope they had a lovely holiday together as a family.

    • Jan90067 says:

I think it was just the Mids and Cambs. Pips was photo’d in London, walking her dogs, a few times after they left.

  3. Starryfish29 says:

So the Cambridges are partying it up in Mustique, yet somehow Meghan is crying on Kate’s shoulder over her Dad back at KP? Which one of them is a time traveler?

    • Bumble says:

Who knows if any of the myriad of stories are true, but to answer your question: there is this thing called cellphones. We talk on them!

      • Starryfish29 says:

Anyone that calls me about anything while I’m on vacation goes on my shit list, let alone to talk about the same drama that’s been going on for months lol. Per Katie Nicholl’s fan fiction though, Kate’s practically been bringing Meghan cups of tea while she sobs on the couch.

      • Josie says:

I doubt every reporter who cites “unnamed sources” or “friends” to report on what’s going on behind the walls of KP or Anmer. The first rule of William’s life is not to talk to the press, and no matter what shenanigans happened before 2010, the Middletons have followed that rule to the letter ever since. Katie Nicholl has no sources. She certainly isn’t part of the Duchess of Sussex’s circle (which appears reasonably solid for a women who only moved to the country just less than a year ago).

Good for them. Hope they have a nice holiday with their children. But i don’t think Pippa and her husband are there. Pippa was pictured in London.

    • Josie says:

Pippa was not there, and some of the newspapers have adjusted their reporting to refer only to Carol and Michael Middleton. That itself is based only on a twitter sighting but seems reasonable.

Of course, a lot of Royal reporting is based on what “seems reasonable.” When there are no named sources and no photographs, there’s no good way of nothing what’s true and what’s make-believe.

You’re not supposed to fly beyond a certain point in your pregnancy due to sun storms.

      • Lizabeth says:

Think Zika could also be a concern. I don’t think it has appeared on Mustique but has on nearby islands including where they changed planes.

  5. Jane says:

    Love the choice of pictures

  6. homeslice says:

Kate’s probably a homebody. “Homeslice” is a reference to my own homebodyness so I get not partying.
I just got back from a nice break with my extended family. Parents, kids, grandparents…it was really nice. My cup of tea, I suppose 🙂

  7. ASHBY says:

    Good for them.

I hope Kate didn’t wear those unappealing hoof like wedges with the 3 or 4 inch massive heel.

We go for a lovely vacation once year and have 2-3 long weekend getaways a year, once year we always do skiing and snowboarding.

Our travel fund allows us to travel without guilt.

We work hard and so do Kate and William, they deserve some fun.

    • Tina says:

I’m sure you work hard, but Kate and William do not. That said, I don’t actually begrudge them this holiday, as they are now beholden to the school year like normals.

  8. Lynne says:

Why not? Happy they could get away!

  9. Penelope says:

Kate looks wonderful–that yellow dress is fabulous on her.

    They both look very happy.

I think its not only Harry who has settled down since Meghan “fell” into his life. I feel as if they have all gelled as a family, even bringing Charles and Camilla into the fold which is nice to see, the closeness may be due in part to the horrendous way Meghan’s father and his ghastly offspring have behaved, I think they’ve circled the wagons to protect her.

    • Star says:

I totally agree. Everyone really seems to be grooving on each other right now. Maybe Harry’s wedding brought them closer together? They seem to adore Meghan and seem more familylike towards her than her own family (her mother aside).

  11. Becks1 says:

I don’t know what it is, but something about both of them has changed over the past year (at least in terms of their public personas.) They both seem happy, confident, comfortable – with each other and their children, but also with the public (at least more so than they were before.) I like that William was tweeting during the world cup. I like that Kate and Meghan went to Wimbledon together and seemed comfortable around each other. I don’t know if its the arrival of Meghan (not Meghan herself, but if they appreciate having someone around to take some of the spotlight off them), if its the birth of Louis, or what, but it definitely feels like something has changed. Maybe they’ve finally realized that the public responds really well to seeing them a bit more? I don’t know.

If they both just continue to increase their workloads, we wont have anything to complain about on here 😉

    • Fluffy Princess says:

      Yes, to all of this.
I loved how cute William and Kate were at Wimbledon — laughing together and so at ease. After all this time, it’s nice to see them not bored with each other, and they do seem to still really enjoy each others company.

Harry and Meghan too. I think they will always be tight–each others rock, so to speak.

I think with Charles and Camilla, the Cambridges and the Sussexes will form a tight circle–and rally for each other going forward.

    • ladida says:

I agree, they seem a lot happier than in years past.

    • minx says:

Agree, I don’t know what it is but, as you said, they appear happier and more confident. It’s nice.

    • Carrie says:

Harry is no longer their third wheel maybe, as in they don’t worry about him anymore. They love each other I know but there was unease and scrutiny constantly.

Also anniversary of Diana and that they spoke out about it all, Heads Together, etc., add in Meghan who has a mom with training in mental health support and therapy, I wonder if they aren’t all healed a lot due to everything coming together at once. They spoke their feelings as publicly as they could and maybe it helped a lot.

    • Lizabeth says:

I think part of their contentment is that Will has finally seemed to accept his role as a “fulltime” working royal. It may be a life he doesn’t want– Personally I think he likes the perks but doesn’t like having to actually show up and look at least somewhat prepared– but he does seem to have accepted his role. It sounds like it took Philip’s retirement to get him to do that. For years, pretty much going back to the days immediately after he finished his university studies he has seemed to smolder with resentment and often acted like a petulant adolescent well into his 30s. It may be now that he’s finally doing things like solo trips abroad (although his work totals aren’t all that high for a full-time royal) he’s found it’s not as bad as he feared. Or maybe it is as bad as he feared but he’s less unhappy now that he’s not so focused on full-on “resistance.” And Kate’s got to be happier not to be married to a moody teenager. Still, I don’t expect that he will work as much as lots of other members of the family do at least not any time soon. I do think he’ll work more regularly though. Kate, we’ll see.

      • Becks1 says:

@Lizabeth that’s a good point. Maybe William has just accepted that he cant be whatever he wants to be, but he can still channel his likes and interests into his charity work, much like Charles does, and can still have a really happy and fulfilling life with lots of privileges and perks.

  12. Busyann says:

I actually agree that they deserved the get away, but not because they had been working so hard. Nope, simply because I think it had been a while, like a year or two, since they had a real vacation. I’m coming up on two years since my last true vacation somewhere and I am soooooooo ready to get away.

Hello aught to know Mustique is not a private island.
