Is Jennifer Aniston spending time with her much-younger boxing trainer?

46th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute honoring George Clooney

As we discussed last week, Jennifer Aniston is the September cover girl for InStyle. She was interviewed by one of her good friends, and the piece was actually pretty long. So long, that I really had to cull the hell out of the excerpts. One part that I completely ignored was Jennifer talking about what kind of fitness routine she does now. Just know that for years and years, Jennifer would basically only talk about yoga, and maybe Pilates a little bit too. But I guess Justin Theroux wouldn’t shut up about it, so Jennifer got into something Justin talks about a lot: boxing. This is what she said in InStyle:

MM: What’s your exercise of choice?
JA:
Last year I discovered boxing, and I love it. I have this trainer named Leyon, who I believe hung the moon. It’s the longest workout I’ve actually stayed with consistently other than yoga. There’s something about the mental aspect of boxing — the drills, your brain has to work, you’re not just sitting on a bike. It’s amazing.

MM: I knew you wanted to punch someone!
JA:
Boxing is a great way to get aggression out. You get a mental release of all this crap you’re taking into your ears and eyes every day and have little fantasy moments imagining who you’re actually punching. I’m just grateful it’s not actually the person, even though there’s one person. You know what I mean. It’s all good.

This is such a minor quibble, but I really do hate when people say that they “discovered” something that has literally been around for centuries. I’m guilty of saying that too, like I’ll say I “discovered” some actor in a movie or something. But I hate it. Anyway, since Aniston dropped the name of her boxing trainer, The Sun did some digging and now they’re trying to make it into a thing.

Single Jennifer Aniston has hired a personal trainer 18 years her junior for boxing workouts. The former Friends star, 49, is having sessions with Leyon Azubuike, 31 — ex-sparring partner to a world heavyweight champ.

Training takes place at the £15 million LA mansion she shared with second husband Justin Theroux, 46, until they split five months ago. Bryan Laverdure, Azubuike’s business manager, said: “Leyon isn’t seeing anyone. He trains her (Jen) at her house.”

[From The Sun]

Do you see what they’re trying to say? Of course you see it. Is Jennifer Aniston, 49, banging her boxing trainer, who is a very large 31-year-old African-American man? I doubt it, but I would love it if it was true. In fact, I think I have the plot line for Jennifer’s new romantic-comedy. A very wealthy woman going through a fake divorce (THEY WERE NEVER MARRIED) hires a good looking, younger black man for boxing lessons. As they’re jabbing and toussling, they fall in love. Will society reject the wealthy white woman + younger hot black guy pairing? Will their love heal racism? They’ll call it Bantamweight: A Love Story. Jennifer, produce this movie. Hire Michael B. Jordan to play Leyon.

  2. Astrid says:

    loving the fan fiction!

  3. Abbi says:

    Yea, nope.

  4. Lala11_7 says:

I have NO PROBLEM WITH THIS…the theory…OR the actual!

    • Esmom says:

Me neither, lol. Reminds me of Halle Berry and her (younger) trainer.

I do not, however, get the appeal of boxing. Or kickboxing. Sitting on a bike is exciting enough for me, I guess.

  5. Rescue Cat says:

It’d be a bit unprofessional for the trainer to shag a client.

    • Beth says:

It happens though. This would definitely not be the first trainer/client shag. No big deal, but if things go bad with it, she’ll need to get a new trainer

      • smcollins says:

Wasn’t Owen Wilson’s first baby mama his personal trainer? I recall reading that at the time the news came out about the pregnancy.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

      One married the Swedish princess.

    • Mew says:

Princess Victoria of Sweden married her PT. It happens.

  6. Mellie says:

I started taking kickboxing classes 4 weeks ago and while I’ve always been an avid runner, nothing works you out like kickboxing. I know it’s been around awhile, I just never bought in, well, I’m buying in! And hey, Jen…whatever works for you…with the boxing and the banging 😉

    • Esmom says:

I’m a runner, too, and the couple times I tried kickboxing were painful. I don’t seem to have the hip rotation required to do it effectively. Glad you found something you like. I have been enjoying getting my ass kicked by HIIT classes for about two years now.

      • Mellie says:

I love it. It actually has helped strengthen my hips up. The gym I go to starts you out very, very slow…stressing form and then eases you in to the kickboxing, upper and lower body moves. Three days a week of kickboxing, three days a week of strength training and then I try to run three days a week too. I usually double up strength training with running. Plus they have a built in nutrition class. It’s the smartest thing I’ve ever done for myself.

      • Esmom says:

Nice, Mellie. Sounds like a very solid routine.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

I did kickboxing for a few years and it was great – i only stopped when i hurt my foot.

I also just started reformer pilates and its amazing – really good for building core strength and toning muscles.

      • MaryContrary says:

I started pilates a few months ago-and love it. My pilates instructor is a 70 year old woman who is in amazing shape-she completely inspires me.

I love how people felt that JA wasn’t playing the PR game this time through. Seems to me that it was just delayed. There is always a PR game afoot.

  8. lobstah says:

    Get it, gurl.

  9. perplexed says:

I don’t think she meant she literally discovered boxing for humanity.

I’m almost certain she meant that she discovered boxing for herself, sort of like me discovering the wonders of a macaron for myself.

    • Darla says:

Right. I discovered bourbon recently! Not a moment too soon, let me tell you.

      • whatWHAT? says:

oooo, what’s your go to brand? I’m a bourbon drinker, and mine is Larceny.

Full disclosure: used to be Makers Mark, and that’s usually what I drink at restaurants as not many (only ONE in my area) serve Larceny.

      • Darla says:

I’ve been drinking Makers, but I just started, and I have a lot of exploring to do. If I see the Larceny, I will try it!

      • whatWHAT? says:

go to a whiskey bar and talk to the bartenders about what you like and ask them to suggest something. I went to one, told them about my affinity for Makers, and they suggested others that are made with wheat (as opposed to rye).

Larceny and 1792 were the ones they recommended and I LOVED Larceny. so smooth!

    • lucy2 says:

Macarons are the best! I too “discovered” them a few years ago, and it’s a good thing there aren’t many places around her that make them well, or I’d eat them all the time.

  10. Grant says:

I would definitely ship Aniston with Michael B. Jordan! WHEW LAWD, I’ve got the vapors.

  11. Pamm says:

Azubuike is from the Igbo tribe of Nigeria.
