Nope, nope, nope, we don’t need another movie glorifying Manson and his cult. Bugliosi’s book (he was the prosecutor) and “Helter Skelter” are definitive enough. And no, she doesn’t look like Sharon Tate. Let the poor woman, and the rest of the victims (who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time) rest in peace.

So much yes to your comment. I used to watch and read anything about serial killers, now I see the wrong in those stories and I deeply regret been part of this cult of sadism media loves so much.
I’m fascinated by the psychology behind these types of crimes, but am dumbfounded by the “fan clubs”*/(romantic) admirers surrounding them. That’s a whole ‘nother level of psychology/psychosis.
*Like, there are ppl out there who are actually OFFENDED by the suggestion that H H Holmes may not have killed 200+ (closer to “only” 8+, incl 4-5 kids) despite the only evidence being yellow journalism of the day.
Reading about them is fine – aberrant human behavior is fascinating because it’s such a violation of the norm and reflects how much we rely on these institutions to function properly. Stanning serial killers, however, is just straight up gross. There was a true crime podcast awhile back where one of the presenters had asked…I believe it was O.J. Simpson(?) for an autograph, and she rightfully got ripped apart for it.
And I’m sure Tarantino will have a gentle thoughtful non exploitative take on the Manson murders. Not. This is disgusting. I’ve just stopped watching anything on TV or movies that has the words “serial killer” in the synopsis. I was in high school with LaBianca kids. Let those poor people Rest In Peace.
The manson cult wasn’t cool or edgy- he was a pimp who abused, a full tilt sociopath who brainwashed drug addled drifters to fulfill deranged murders. If anything, the manson debacle is a cautionary tale about parenting, NOT a fashion show FFS.
100. It is a cautionary tale on parenting. When I read Helter Skelter, it blew my mind. Some of these girls never had a chance. But Leslie, the homecoming queen. It was a different time. I can’t even imagine what it was like back then with all the cults. They called the murders the end of innocence and flower power, hippies, et al. Damn, whoever “they” were right. Man, this was just brutal.
amen. this is a thirst trap of actors who have less conscience and more ego. margot is very standard type pretty, but to me, not a stellar actor. she is hired for looks. this film is a terrible idea and so cringey and appalling. with tarantino at the helm, no doubt this will revel in the violence against tate. let her and the others rest in peace.

No, Tate’s sister just came out and said that Tarantino sat down with her and went over the script and she’s fine with it.

Margot Robbie has the kind of look that no matter who she plays, she always looks like Margot Robbie dressing up as so and so, which is distracting. She doesn’t look like Sharon Tate, she looks like Margot Robbie modeling 60’s clothing. And hard pass on the movie regardless of who is playing Tate.
I agree. She also looks just like Jamie Pressly and Jaime King, and in the promo still for this movie she looks like a young Rebecca Romijn rather than Tate. She looks absolutely nothing like Sharon Tate beyond both being blonde and white, so the casting is way off.
In the top pic she reminds me of Michelle Phillips.
The “look” is too current. If they are going to retell this sordid story, at least make it historic.
She has this weird mix of features that are both somewhat generic but also very recognizable and not easily altered through cosmetics. I can see why they picked Margot because of the superficial similarities (high cheekbones, full lips, bedroom eyes), but there’s definitely a sharper geometry to Tate’s features that made her stand out in photos.

Agree on both counts. I could easily see forgetting what city I’m in, especially in the middle of a performance! At least she asked, I’ve seen plenty of others blurt out the wrong city.
I like Margot a lot, I think she’s talented and has a great screen presence, but I’m disappointed in her for taking this role in this film.

A younger Julianne Moore could easily be cast in the role, I agree. She has that slightly square jawed look that Robbie doesn’t quite have.
I just don’t get why Robbie is doing it. Sharon Tate didn’t have a very dramatic life outside of her gruesome end so I don’t understand the draw unless she just wants to wear some fun mod 60s costumes.
I wonder if the role is worth the inevitable controversy and generally icky vibe surrounding the whole film.

Sharon prophesied her own death. This is nothing but dark bad karma. Maybe he is telling the story of that era of time, but since Sharon Tate’s character is in the movie, it has to be creepy af. Surprised the sister approved, since she has tried since her sisters’ and parent’s deaths to preserve some dignity to the family. Sharon Tate was not a great actress, she was a 60’s actress, tall, blonde, big breasts. But she had an eerily beautiful face. Everything about her has some sort of oddness. I wish the movie was not being made. Margot doesn’t resemble her, but probably smells an Oscar from the freaks in Hollywood that love this shit.
Yeah am also surprised the Tate family is allowing Tarantino to make this movie – you know he will objectify Sharon. I agree she wasn’t a great or natural actress but she started to show some potential in Valley of the Dolls but yeah many 60s actors/actresses weren’t very good and only got roles because of how they looked. There are reasons why not many actors from that time didn’t have lasting careers.
I did see that movie with Patty Duke. Sharon’s character killed herself with pills because she had breast cancer I think and felt she was nothing without her breasts. I can’t watch anything like this right now, I get dreams. I shouldn’t even talk about it. But as I said before, why remind us of the horror. I think Debra Tate is the only surviving immediate family member. This all happened in 1969. It should be buried with the innocent victims of this horrendous crime. Helter Skelter, the book, told it all.
Digital Unicorn: I’m not crazy, well maybe a little! Sharon was nine months pregnant when she was killed. Susan Atkins wanted to cut her baby out of her body, but she didn’t have the time. As a pregnant woman, this is an unbearable thought to have. I hate him for making this movie.

Do those of you who hate the thought of a Tarantino/Tate exploitation flik still watch shows like Dexter, Special Victims Unit, and CSI ? Did you used to? Those shows have been wildly popular for well over a decade. …even airing BEFORE 9:pm in CA. I don’t see why this project gets all the shock & condemnation. I swear I think im the only one who refused to watch all that nastiness on network tv. EVERYONE WATCHES IT and they let their kids watch too. Don’t even get me started on films… its just too sad.
The difference @stinky (so cute) is that these were real, flesh and blood people. They had families and jobs. Happiness and sorrow. Sharon was ready to give birth, literally, at nine months pregnant. Her friends, Jay was a hairdresser, and Abigail was an heiress with her boyfriend. The poor kid in the car came to visit the worker who lived in a small house on the property. You can watch scary movies/tv and get whatever rush one gets from them and go on with your day. These people were slaughtered like animals, and were still very much dead at the end of the hour.

Britney was not like, “Oh my god, where actually am I??” as if she really forgot where she was. I watched it and it sound more like someone who plays a lot of shows and was like, “Wait, where are we again? Oh yeah!” I found it just to be scatterbrained. I’d do something like that…and I have a PhD. The way people are writing these headlines makes it sound like she was truly confused and mental messed up.
And no, I’m not at all a Britney stan. I just get irked by melodramatic headlines that are misleading–I don’t mean YOUR headline, Kaiser. I’m talking about it is being portrayed all over the internet..
I have some experience in stage performers. The prep that goes into it. How it happens.
Britney may have had a scatterbrained moment, but I find it unlikely. Unlikely this isn’t common. Unlikely she is competent. Unlikely she isn’t motivated daily to function because of prescriptions.
And because this is britney with such a long and current history of this behavior… it’s not a stretch.
Especially with her claims to avoid paying more child support.
She is beautiful than many other heroines in Hollywood.
