Noah Cyrus sings emo songs because people make fun of her on the internet

2018 Radio Disney Music Awards - Arrivals

Miley Cyrus has a big family and her siblings all want to be stars, Noah Cyrus especially. To me, Noah might be the peak of nepotism – she doesn’t have a good singing voice, she can’t dance and she has no It Factor. But through Miley’s connections, Noah is still being pushed on us. Last year, Noah “performed” at the MTV Movie Awards in what was one of the most uncomfortable moments of any awards show, ever. It would have been cute if Noah was just having fun with some friends at home. But she was on stage at an awards show and I was embarrassed for her. Noah keeps trying though, and she has a new EP full of “emo” music (lol), and an interview in the L’Officiel to promote it. Some highlights:

Her music is emo now: Cyrus lets it slip that, well, she kinda identifies as emo. Receipts? She once DJ’d an emo night in Los Angeles. “Yeah, this next series of my art and my music is going to be an exploration of a more ‘emo’ side for sure. I think that probably stems from growing up with Trace Cyrus in my house because he was the king of emo.”

What her EP is about: “This EP is mostly just about how my emotions have been, and about my anxiety, and about how I’ve been struggling with depression, and how it’s okay to feel those feelings. A lot of people like to judge you, and make fun of you on the Internet, and people make you feel crazy whenever you’re in a depression or having anxiety or having a panic attack. It’s about that and being sad and having your emotions and not being able to ignore the feelings you’re having.”

Her vice: “Oh my go-o-od! Chili Fritos. Chili Cheese—it’s my favorite. I’m gonna go get some right now. So yum. I sit around and eat junk food all the time.”

Is there a difference between “people making fun of you on the internet” versus “people on the internet commenting about how an awards-show performance was really terrible”? I think there is a difference. So many of these youngsters believe that every time they’re being artistically criticized or poorly reviewed, that’s the same thing as being personally bullied or whatever.

Here’s her single… it’s not good, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it could have been. Mostly, it just feels really amateurish, which is weird because you know the Cyrus family spent major money to make this happen. And… this isn’t emo.

    Geez.

  2. Mrs. Peel says:

Quit trying to make the Cyrus offspring a thing. No one is interested.

  3. Crumbs says:

God those pictures of her and her boyfriend (?? I think. I’ve never heard of this boy in my life) are some of the most embarrassing photos I’ve ever seen. It is the epitome of second hand embarrassment. I can’t.

And I don’t know, I do feel for young stars a bit. I bet it feels awful seeing comments regarding your looks, etc. Older stars didn’t really have to deal with that. That said, its rich people problems. I’d totally let strangers make fun of me online if I was paid by the millions.

    • Andrea says:

I agree…but reading negative comments about your looks is heart breaking no matter how rich.

      • FLORC says:

If your looks are yours. If you’re born with them. No one has the right to attack that.
If you went and had bad alterations done? You opened the door. You valued a false appearance over your natural features and beauty. You rolled those dice.
It’s not right, but you can’t be sheltered from certain. Things when you need certain things.

Plus there’s the fact that, like a lot of other girls and women in who are public figures, this girl and her sister have also been targets of misogynists and their victim-blaming propaganda for several years. The criticism of her performances (which is valid. She’s really not talented) pales in comparison and probably isn’t the main source of the depression she’s talking about.

@Florc: To be fair the criticism of her looks started way before she had work done.

That guy is a rapper named Lil Xan. And, yes, his name is a reference to Xanax. The only reason I know this is because I got involved in a conversation about a girl who was a fan of this guy, and she took it as far as getting a face tattoo and even asked her friends online how to get some Xanax to try. It amazes me how stupid people can be.

      • Laura says:

Noooooooo, girl. This is when I feel like such an old lady (I’m only 34) and I want to scream at all of these 18, 19, 20 year olds getting face tattoos. PLEASE STOP! And he just looks all sorts of gross and dirty, and nowhere near any point where he deserves acclaim. I need to go watch a kitten video or something to clean my brain after reading about him.

      • DSW says:

I am even older than you, so this was all more than I really cared to know. The irony about the girl wanting to try Xanax because of Lil Xan is that Lil Xan is actually a recovering addict who speaks about against Xanax abuse (found this out after a little more research). That’s all well and good, but he still look a bit gross.

the secondhand embarrassment is strong with these two.

  4. FLORC says:

The song is bad. She has no range and you can feel the edits. On top of the zero “IT factor” she is easily forgotten.

This makes me feel for miley.
I’ve had family and close people in my life trying to use connections and ride coat tails. You want to help, but eventually you feel they want it handed to them. That you have to do the work. And then resentment grows

  5. gf says:

the song actually isn’t bad, but the music video is terrible. Does she not have another expression?

  6. Pandy says:

OG these kids! These outfits! God bless lollll.

  7. Grant says:

I think Miley Cyrus has a really great voice and Bangers was a great album (don’t @ me). But this is tripe.

  8. Detriotgirl says:

In the interest of fairness, I just want to point out that the song you posted here is from 2016 and definitely not a new single. That said, yes to everything else.
