The Sussexes & the Cambridges have ‘code names’ for security & privacy reasons

The Wimbledon Championships 2018

One of the cool little things I love about the American presidency, in general, is Secret Service code names. The code names serve many purposes, from security to brevity to secrecy. One of my favorite groupings of Secret Service code names was for the Kennedy family – their SS code names were all “L” words – JFK was Lancer, Jackie was Lace, Caroline was Lyric and John-John was Lark. The Obamas also had great code names – Barack Obama’s name was Renegade, Michelle was Renaissance, and Malia and Sasha were “Radiance” and “Rosebud.” My point is that with code names, you can have some fun.

The royals have code names for security and privacy reasons too. Those code names are apparently used by staffers and by the royal protection officers, one would assume. So what are the code names? Well…

To members of the public they are known as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but to their royal aides and bodyguards they are just plain ‘David Stevens’ and ‘Davina Scott’. It has been revealed that the famous couple are regularly given alternative monikers – secret code names that use the initials ‘DS’ as a nod to their official title, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to prevent their contact details from falling into the wrong hands.

And as for Prince William and Kate Middleton, the couple are saved as the more modest ‘Danny Collins’ and ‘Daphne Clark’ in their aides’ contact lists. The initials ‘DC’ in the secret code names allude, of course, to the royal couple’s title – the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, reports the Daily Star.

‘If anyone got hold of a phone belonging to a royal aide or security team member, they won’t find Harry Windsor and Meghan’s names in it,’ said a royal source, adding, ‘it is far too risky in the wrong hands. They get given code names but they are changed regularly for obvious reasons.’

I don’t know if Kate chose Daphne or it was chosen for her, but she is SO Daphne. That name fits her better than Kate or Catherine. Why didn’t Carole name her Daphne?!?! As for Meghan’s code name Davina… that weirdly fits her too. I’m trying to think of other D-names that could be used for duchesses… Daisy, Delilah, Dakota, Desiree, Deborah, Destiny. I would have loved it if staffers were referring to Meghan as Destiny!! As for the princes… I think William seems more like a David and Harry seems more like a Danny. F–k it, they should call Harry “Destiny” too.

I like Delicious for Harry and Destiny for Meghan. Meghan’s last name could be Star or Starr just to be extra!

Megan should be “Delilah”, as she is Harry’s strength and his weakness (as in his love for her).

Kate looks SO MUCH like a Daphne. That’s hilarious.

Meghan should have a cuter name. Davina works, but something like Delaney or Darcy or even Deirdre would be cute. Harry looks like a Drew or Danny.

I’m a fan of names in general, lol.

I don’t get the “Daphne look” – what does this name represents exactly? (I’m not from an English speaking country originally)

The American Secret Service names are much better. The British ones are a bit boring. I can definitely see Kate as a “Daphne” and Meghan as a “Davina” though. Not so sure about Danny and David for the men.
