Sandra Oh was in a red deep v neck Ralph and Russo gown last night which I appreciated for the little sleeves. I also like the lattice work beading detail. Sandra has been getting a lot of buzz for her work on BBC’s Killing Eve, for which she was the first Asian American woman nominated for Best Actress at the Emmys. That speaks volumes about the lack of Asian representation on television. (None of us are watching Killing Eve yet as it’s not on any of the streaming services. The first four episodes are available on demand from BBC America so I think I’ll watch it soon.) Sandra brought her mom and dad as her dates, which was cute, I always like seeing celebrities with their parents. In a red carpet interview with Variety, Sandra’s mom said how proud she was of her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. You can see that here. Sandra’s reaction was the best.
Best supporting actress nominee Alexis Bledel had on Delpozo. This dress reminds me somewhat of Michelle Dockery’s Carolina Herrera in that it’s just a basic pastel dress with some appliques on it. In this case there’s a neon panel on the skirt and it’s bad. Alexis keeps her private life on lockdown but she actually has a nearly four-year-old son with Vincent Kartheiser, we’ve just never seen photos of the baby and we don’t know his name.
Alexis’s Handmaid’s Tale costar Samira Wiley was in silver Jenny Packham. This is a fun dress, I like the larger sequins along the top, it’s just a little forgettable. The Handmaid’s Tale didn’t win anything last night and I’m ok with that. I couldn’t bring myself to watch it this season because it hit too close to home.
I was going to include Constance Wu because I thought she was Emmy nominated in a past year in the supporting actress category for Fresh Off The Boat. She wasn’t, which is disappointing. Plus she’s the lead on that show. She has been nominated for TCA and Critics Choice Awards though. Constance was a presenter and she’s in Jason Wu. This dress is gorgeous. This is how you do the half-slouchy off the shoulder sleeve so it doesn’t look like you need to yank your dress up. I loved Crazy Rich Asians and will see it again when it hits streaming.

What a sweet moment! I got chills watching it. The love was palpable.
Sandra Oh has my dream hair. If only I could get my curls to look like that. She’s stunning and so talented. And her mom in the hanbok was adorable!
I like her dress, too, especially when she moved. It was a bit heavy looking in the still shots.
Sandra Oh losing was painful. She deserves awards. Her acting is amazing. And this dress is so good.
Sandra looked gorgeous; LOVE that dress. Alexis…what were you thinking??? Samira looks gorgeous, and Constance.. I LOVE her, and I really liked her dress, but wish it was in another color. She’s a beautiful woman; can you imagine that her in that dress in red, or emerald?
CRA is great; can’t wait for the sequel (even though the other two books weren’t anywhere as good as the first, I’m still looking forward to it, just for these actors alone 😊)
Sandra Oh is so cute!!! I love when people bring their parents <3
I also ADORE her hair, and the dress. Shiny + red are not two words that come to mind when I think of a great outfit, but the combination of cut and draping and textures… absolutely gorgeous. I also love that she wore her hair out, like the line from the show "an asian women with AMAZING hair" – she really does have fantastic hair and I can't believe I didn't realise until now.
Was one of my favorite dresses especially after I saw her walk across the stage in it 😍
With the cutest mother ever!!
YES. I actually gasped when I saw her. I think she looked so great.
Samira Wiley looked lovely. I really like her dress – fit beautifully, and the color was so pretty on her. I think it’s one of the better dresses of the night.
I was rooting for Sandra Oh. I just love her and Killing Eve is fantastic. I thought her costar should have been nominated also. Her dress was one of my favorites, but it looked much better moving on the carpet, I don’t think the pictures do it justice. Her parents were adorable.
Agree. Killing Eve is a fantastic show. Sandra was great as was her female adversary, Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer. Well worth binge-watching! Disappointed for Sandra not to have won this time, but lovely that she was acknowledged in a strong group.
And by first Asian American nominated you mean first Asian Canadian, right? Cuz we’re keeping her! She and Don McKellar are what I thonk about whenever I think of the late 90’s Canadian indie movie scene. And she looked gorgeous with her parents last night.
Also, for all the talks about diversity last night, can we talk about ultimately all the awards went to the typical shows?! Seems like all the “minority” nominees were just there as props. Is the new Palladino show really that great?
Yes. Highly recommend TMMM 😊
THANK YOU!!! Yes, we are totally keeping her!
Killing Eve will come to Hulu this Fall – but they haven’t set a release date. It’ll happen though!!
Also, I loved Sandra’s dress, just wish it was a touch less wrinkled. And Claire Foy was the most boring choice to actually win.
Oh look, Sandra Oh’s face is finally showing the barest signs of aging. Isn’t she a lucky b*tch.
Not sure how I feel about Constance Wu’s dress. I love shiny, but I feel like you have to be careful with how complicated the design is when you’re working with sequins. Maybe if the top was a matte material, and the skirt flared into a sequin gradient?
*sigh* Sandra Oh *sigh*
Sandra Oh isn’t American, she’s Canadian.
Thank you! 🙂
Hey, we’re going to have take Bieber for you. Let us have this.
I love Sandra Oh’s dress! Finally a dress with sleeves!
Ahem.
Asian-Canadian.
you mean Asian-Canadian** right? Not everyone’s American…
Killing Eve is on AMC on demand so…
Really like Sandra’s dress and hair. Everything is great. Would have loved a pic of her mom in her traditional Korean hanbok. She was adorable.
