Joe Scarborough & Mika Brzezinski got married at the National Archives in DC

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski’s love affair has not been one for the ages. Both Mike and Joe were married to other people when they began working together on MSNBC, and both of their marriages crumbled as their affair consumed them. Mika takes care of Joe like a mother, apparently, and Joe just… I don’t know, yells at her and talks over her. There was always a lot of uncomfortable sexual tension between them, even after it was established that they were a couple. They got engaged in May 2017, and over the Thanksgiving weekend, they got married in Washington. DC. They gave Vanity Fair the exclusive, and VF did a lengthy write-up, which you can read here.

Where they married: At 5:40 p.m. on Saturday evening, Mika Brzezinski hurried out of a black S.U.V. a few dozen yards from the back entrance of the National Archives. An umbrella was popped open for her, and she walked into the historic library in order to get married to her longtime Morning Joe colleague and partner, Joe Scarborough, in front of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights.

They wanted their wedding to be shrouded in secrecy: Washington was a post-Thanksgiving ghost town: Congress was out of session, the president was in Palm Beach, much of the city’s permanent class was away for the holiday or at home in suburban Maryland or Northern Virginia. Most of the people working for the vendors did not know the identity of the betrothed until Saturday evening, and many of the reservations were made under a friend’s name. The couple did not send out any formal invitations; they made about 14 phone calls to their family members and close friends, and none of the guests knew where the dinner was until Saturday evening.

The bride & groom’s attire: Brzezinski wore a stark-white, tea-length Milly dress, with delicate, polka-dotted lace sleeves that swept into a sweetheart neckline, created by her friend, designer Michelle Smith. Her shoes were custom-made by designer Layla-Joy Williams, who flew to her factory in Brazil with fabric from the dress to make sure the pointy-toed stilettos were just right. Scarborough, for his part, wore a black Zegna suit from his on-air rotation, what he called a Robert Mueller-approved white shirt, and a traditional black wedding tie. He affixed a boutonniere with a white orchid and green sprigs to his lapel.

Why they married at the Archives: “We did an event there more than a year ago and we were just blown away, seeing all these documents and how we felt seeing them,” Brzezinski told me before the ceremony, explaining how they settled on the rotunda in the Archives, with its 70-foot ceilings and those three historic documents framed behind glass, as the place where they wanted to marry. “It makes sense now more than ever, given what we stand for as a couple, what we do for a living, and what we’re worried about as a country.”

On having Elijah Cummings do the service: The couple denied that the decision was intended to suggest possible presidential aspirations for Scarborough, whose name is often invoked in putative 2020 and 2024 conversations. “We didn’t think of that at all,” Brzezinski told me. “But I’m sure people will say that.”

The cake & Mika’s name change: Before 10 o’clock, the couple cut into their 20-layer traditional crepe layer cake, and everyone had trickled out by about 10:45. I realized I had left without asking her the most important question: Was she changing her name, I texted her after everyone had gone home? “Yup,” she replied.

[From Vanity Fair]

So, there you go. I think so much of this is hilarious – they’re making such a big deal about how secret everything HAS TO BE… while they invite VF to document the entire thing. They claim that people are just desperate to know everything about their lives… as they spill all the details to VF without prompts. They claim to be so anti-Trump, but also they let VF know that Trump offered to host their wedding at the White House last year. As for Mika changing her name… ugh. I hate to admit though, I like the name “Scarborough.” It’s pretty and sing-songy. But Mika didn’t change her name for her first marriage, and now she’s changing it for Joe? Hm.

Paraphrasing the seminal line from Johnny Rotten in the iconic movie….”Sid & Nancy”….(with patented Johnny Rotten sneer…)

    “How LUVELY for them…”

Personally speaking…this WHOLE THANG regarding them….

    Was tacky AF….

  2. Becks1 says:

I texted my mom about their wedding this AM and she was like “so nice they were able to keep it private and secret!” Sure, beyond VF being there, lol.

  3. Laughysaphy says:

That’s hilarious that they thought that literally anyone would care enough about their wedding to shroud it in secrecy 😂

  4. Wellsie says:

    I don’t get these people.

  5. Tiffany says:

I thought they were already married.

Also, Mika, the name thing…I mean, keep the name that is steeped in political history or change it and it will be remembered as you marrying a guy who put out a album that one time.

These are two people who think they are the smartest in the room and talk out of both sides of their mouths. I believe they both worked pretty hard to get Trump elected, especially Joe who was rarely on set for much of 2016, and then when Trump turned on them, they had buyer’s remorse. I remember both of them adamantly saying that the 2016 election was not about racism… Um, it was all about racism. And Mika with her know your value nonsense. As mentioned here, she is on television as a sexy motherly type who sits next to a man who talks down and over her all.morning.long. Also, I hope they do not plan on running in 2020. This is the first I have read of that possibly. But yeah, give me Joe over Trump any day.

  7. minx says:

She must enjoy being patronized by this guy for some reason. I dunno.

  8. Lightpurple says:

I can’t stand either one of them but the National Archives is a really cool venue.

  9. Beth says:

I thought they were already married to each other. I don’t watch their show because it’s so obnoxious the way he rudly interrupts, and talks over her all of the time. If she wants to take his last name, there’s nothing wrong with that, I wasn’t going to take my exfiances last name because it rhymes with my first name and would sound silly.

We cut the cable about three years ago, so I catch up with a lot of cable news shows via podcasts, including “Morning Joe.” I guess they used to be virulent Trump ass-kissers, but they detest him now. Between Joe’s passive-aggressive habit of talking over her, and her exasperated response to most of his opinions …I can’t understand why they’re a couple. It does NOT surprise me that they made a point of getting married in Nat’l Archives, in front of the Constitution, though. It’s exactly the sanctimonious gesture I’d expect from them. Also, everytime I see Joe Scarborough, I picture a muppet with a big old blue head and huge nose. Am I the only one?

LOL at “what they stand for as a couple.”

Scarborough was one of the original Trump fanboys in the early days of his campaign. NO ABSOLUTION.

    • Tiffany says:

And I like to remind him on Twitter all the time that he wrote Casino’s first speech in front of Congress and was sitting up there like a proud parent as it was being read.

  12. Liz version 700 says:

They love to bring the “secret” drama. The wedding pictures I saw kind of said it all. She was looking up at him all doe-eyed and he….was looking at the camera … smugly. Congrats to the new couple.

  13. Darla says:

I personally witnessed Mika say, with a straight face, that Bill Clinton needs to come out and say “I’m not a good person”. This was THIS year, and it was about the Lewinski affair.

She said that. On air. With a straight face.

I wondered what her ex husband and Joe’s ex wife thought of it at the time. Personally I thought it would be hilarious, if it weren’t actually happening. Like, it would be funny as an SNL skit.

    • kristen says:

Well, I watched The Clinton Affair docuseries over the weekend and I’m inclined to agree with Mika.

  14. anniefannie says:

The way they were able to skirt the cheating a-hole angle is mystifying….no?
Between her sanctimony and his “awww shucks I’m just a country lawyer” seems they’d be prime targets.

  15. girl_ninja says:

    Lol. They’re awful.

  16. Mamunia says:

I used to love their show, but their ego’s have gone crazy. The dynamic only works when they are all at the same table. But these two seem to be jetting all over the place, so they are never in the same room. Mika has lived off her father’s name for decades, I don’t know how she thinks having the name Scarborough will help her. As for the ridiculous privacy crap, no one cares. Seriously, no one.

  17. Cidey says:

I know I’m in the minority but……I watch them every morning, have grown to love them and am delighted for them. And I’ll go the extra vapid mile and say I love her dress and shoes.

  18. Christin says:

I watch their show only if Willie is there and they have a decent guest panel. I don’t understand why some of the usual guests continue to tolerate being talked over, if not berated at times by the two “stars”.

They appparently get a very generous vacation allowance, because one or the other seems to off quite frequently.

  19. Mika needs to go to the bathroom, crossing hher legs like that.

  20. Bella says:

Like a a few other people, I can’t get over Mika wanting to marry someone who is so egomaniacal and dismissive toward her that he talks over her almost every day on national television. And what’s up with Joe Scarborough’s hair these days? Is that like a pompadour? Wtaf?
