Here’s the trailer for Chris Pine’s limited series, I Am the Night. It looks weird and noirish and and… sort of cool? [Jezebel]

    Best Chris.

He’s so good looking! Dammit. Hot. Chris Pine is aging very well, he looks better as he’s gaining a few lines on his face, he wears a beard well also.
Again, I recommend Outlaw King on Netflix. Beautiful scenery, good story and Pine is believable as Robert the Bruce. Outlaw King is a less time consuming version of Braveheart.
    Gibson dragged it out.

It’s also closer to what really happened. I enjoyed it too.

Really? Outlaw King had THE worst pacing. I hated Braveheart because it was ridiculous. Outlaw King was ok for what it was, but it wasn’t exactly an epic movie….unless you’re into overly drawn out grotesque battle scenes and sadistic violence.

I don’t think Outlaw King was attempting to be an epic movie. I just think the Scottish director/co-writer just wanted a truer depiction of Robert the Bruce out there. By the way, Robert the Bruce, King of Scots was the actual person given the name Braveheart. The film move nearly step by step with historical events, even the act at the alter in the church with John Comyn.

Outlaw King was bad. So lack-luster for what it could have been.

Agreed, Jem! I love Outlaw King, even if it is a bit hard to watch in places (I’m a light weight when it comes to gritty violence). I think this is Chris Pine’s finest work and I love the actor who plays James Douglas, known in history as Black Douglas because he was a demon on the battle field.

I loved the fact that you can go back in history and find that a man named Robert de Bruce, who became King of Scots, was born in 1274, and that his second wife Elizabeth de Burgh was born in 1284, and that his daughter Marjorie de Bruce was born in 1296. The actors did such a good job in their roles! The authenticity and historical facts made the film more real for me.

The film is now at 63% at Rotten Tomatoes. The main gripe people have with the film is that its so violent. But life was violent in the middle ages. I’m glad people are watching it for themselves instead of depending on critics.

I’m too lazy to google… the wife was 12 when she had her daughter?

      • LT says:

@Melody – no, the daughter was from his first marriage.

This show is going to be so damn good. It’s based on “One Day She’ll Darken,” and it’s all about the history of incest in the family of the famous Hollywood doctor who’s believed to have killed Black Dahlia (and others). The Black Dahlia murder house (that Egyptian-looking house in the trailer) is right by my apartment and I am so psyched to watch this!
