The Kardashians & Jenners are shutting down their subscription apps

I don’t know anyone who subscribed to any of the Kardashian-Jenner’s subscription apps. All of the sisters had subscription apps, and some seemed more popular than others. Oddly, I think Khloe’s app was probably the most popular, because she used it for the kind of mundane exclusive content that people really wanted, like a glimpse into how she organized her closets, or her seeming obsession with The Container Store. Since I never subscribed, I have no idea if the other sisters were still doing much on their apps – I remember hearing that Kendall barely did anything for her subscribers, same with Kourtney. In any case, they’re all canceling their apps in the new year.

The Kardashian-Jenner family is looking to start fresh in the new year, and that means bidding farewell to their official apps. Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian and Kylie Jenner announced Wednesday that each of their websites will go dark in 2019.

“We’ve had an incredible experience connecting with all of you through our apps these past few years but have made the difficult decision to no longer continue updating in 2019. We truly hope you’ve enjoyed this journey as much as we have, and we look forward to what’s ahead,” a statement read.

Around this time last year, Kendall Jenner echoed a similar sentiment when she shut down her app. Launched in 2015, access to the stars’ apps cost subscribers $2.99 a month. Content primarily featured never-before-seen photos and videos from their personal lives, as well as insight into their beauty, fitness and diet routines. The E! reality TV personalities continue switching things up in their empire, as just eight months ago Kim announced the closure of their DASH clothing boutiques.

So no more DASH and no more subscription apps. I have to think that both businesses were becoming unprofitable, or a bigger hassle than they were worth. What’s weird is that it feels like the Kardashian-Jenners are dealing with the same issues as media sites – do you make people pay for content, or do you try to give people content for free and hope that advertising allows you to turn a profit? In the Kardash-Jenners’ case, I think only Khloe really embraced the app, and the rest of them prefer the “free” ways of interacting with fans, on Twitter, Instagram and even Snapchat.

I’ve never looked at any of their apps but have to admit I share something in common with Khloe in that I LOVE the Container Store. I used to get ideas from Container Store than buy the comparable items (and save) at IKEA, but then a Container Store opened one in my state and it’s only 20 minutes away vs the closest IKEA, which is over an hour away.

Are the Kardashians finally hitting a recession (Kardacession?) or are they just dropping dead weight to make room for new ventures?

    • Lolly says:

Their new season of KUWTK was the worst amount of viewers since they started (I think I read that it was 500k). I hope that the public has lost interest, but I’m sure they’ll do something shocking to get viewers up again.

      • I don’t know if they can go any farther than planning three pregnancies in one year. Kim’s fake wedding was bad enough, but bringing human beings into the world for profit? What else could they possibly do?

      • Nicky says:

Kendall wasn’t pregnant yet and they could spice up the pregnancy with some paternity drama – is the baby daddy Ben Simmons? ASAP Rocky? or Harry Styles?? Find out in the next season of KUWTK. Kris, please hire me!

WTF is up with that photoshoot thing of Kim and North…?
Kim: ”North came to visit me on set & said momma can we do a photo shoot together just me & you!”
North: ”Momma, would you please be so kind as to put on some pants before we proceed?”

    • BANANIE says:

I know! I’m not someone to police what women wear but that’s … a bit much to parade in around your small child.

      • otaku fairy says:

Oh no, the horror of a little girl seeing her mother’s legs! It’s not like kids see the same amount of skin whenever they go to a pool or a beach, right?

    • AnnaKist says:

Riiiiight, Kimmie… She is so full of herself. Gosh, North has gown up so much in the time I made it my business to pay absolutely no attention to these people. North is beautiful. Shame about her waxy mum.

I’m more concerned about Kim calling the kid her BFF rather than her daughter. My mom wasn’t my bff, she was my mother. She had to do things as a parent that friends don’t or won’t.

Adult children can sometimes become close friends with their parents in an adult friendship, but the parental role is much different in childhood. It isn’t fair to the child to make it a friendship rather than a very different kind of relationship.

Kim is going to have a really hard time being a parent when Nori is too old for nannies. The teenage years will be …. interesting.

Kim sounds as though she didn’t want a daughter, she wanted a dress-up doll. Here’s hoping they send Nori to a good school where she can learn that there are a lot of interesting things to do besides posing for cameras.

    • jwoolman says:

Cherry – Well, the kid is used to that pants hardly there look. It’s better than other outfits Kim has worn.

Is Nori’s hair straightened again? Didn’t Kim say it was just for her birthday?

Oh no! The poor people that subscribed to these apps won’t be able to get sneak peeks into the inside lives of the most public, over-exposed family on the planet. The oceans are probably going to rise with all the tears that are going to collectively fall. Tragic.

  5. Swack says:

How often would they update? That could be a real pain (if they are actually the ones doing it). Also, if they are only showing pictures of what their life is then why have the app when they show so much on other SM?

  6. Chaine says:

Who would buy the app when you can see virtually everything they do for free on Snapchat and Instagram and every tabloid and gossip site on the planet?

    • AnnaKist says:

Exactly. Most of these celebrity-driven apps have a use-by date. People grow up and/or get bored and move on. I remember reading some time ago that people who evntually wanted to cancel their subscriptions to such apps had a lot of trouble doing so. I wouldn’t be at all suprised if lots of people tried cancelling a while back, but it’s taken so long for them to finally be able to do so. Their mum would have been shrewd enough to make sure the apps were set up in such a way as to keep the money rolling in for as long as possible. Delaying cancellations is a ploy many online subscription businesses employ.

I can’t get over this pic of Khloe. The amount of makeup she has on looks uncomfortable. Also, there is highlighting inside her nostrils. Gross

    • whatWHAT? says:

EVERY one of her insta pics is also photoshopped to high heaven.

when you see her in paparazzi shots or one of her sister’s insta pics, you can see what she REALLY looks like.

  8. Grey says:

Sad that North has so much opportunity and she’s being raised to be another vapid model. And of course it’s because she’s a girl.

  9. Amelie says:

Are they shutting down all their DASH stores? Or just a few? I thought they had just closed the one in Miami…

I also do not recognize North whenever she has her hair straightened! She looks drastically different to me.

  10. Anh says:

I’ve never wanted to look pink so much in my life.

    • Anh says:

Also, it’s nice that North can see where she came from whenever she likes. (Not slut-shaming – dress-shaming and in 2018, we’re not too woke to stop doing that too, are we? 🙄)

  11. Lightpurple says:

That top picture? Is that a space alien? A resident of Middle Earth? Rejected ideas for Reese Witherspoon’s character in a Wrinkle in Time?

  12. Pandy says:

Let’s hope people are finally realizing they don’t want to spend their hard earned $$ lining the pockets of these grifters!

  13. me says:

I thought Kim said she only lets North straighten her hair “once a year”? Not that it’s any of my business but this woman lies way too much.

Their apps probably weren’t making any money just like DASH stopped making money.

  14. Ruyana says:

The sisters have had so much plastic surgery it’s now hard to tell them apart.

  15. SallyTomato says:

Is she still running with the “pregnancy lips” narrative?

  16. Yes Doubtful says:

People actually paid to see pictures of the Kardashians? What is there left to see? I hope their businesses closing is one sign that their reign is coming to an end, but I’m sure it’s actually because IG is more profitable than apps now.

  17. Funcakes says:

How about leaving the planet ? Buh bye!
