Former partners Lena Dunham & Jenni Konner ‘are still not speaking to each other’

20th Annual Webby Awards - Arrivals

Last summer, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner announced an end to their business partnership. Konner and Dunham co-owned their production company, A Casual Romance Productions, which was already due to expire at the end of 2018 anyway. They pulled the plug early though. There was a lot of speculation at the time about whether Konner and Dunham had a falling out, and whether the falling out was related to their joint statement they made caping for an accused rapist coworker named Murray Miller. Konner got the benefit of the doubt, like she deserved hazard pay for working Lena for all those years. But maybe there was a reason why Konner and Dunham were partners all that time? Maybe Konner agreed with her? I don’t know. But I do think this Page Six story is right, and that they had a big falling out:

When Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner ended their much-celebrated partnership over the summer, Konner told the press that there was “no drama.” In fact, she went so far as to say, “We’re both so happy about it.” But we’re told that was very much not the case — to such an extent that the one-time best friends are still not speaking to each other. At the time, they said in a statement that they “respect each other’s choices” and that their “interests [were] pulling us in different directions right now.” But multiple sources tell us that Konner was stunned and hurt by Dunham’s decision to end the once extremely close partnership — which produced “Girls,” as well as “Camping” and the defunct Lenny Letter website.

As recently as last month, Konner told friends she was relieved to be free from Dunham’s never-ending circus of public drama. Meanwhile, we’re told that a contributing factor in the combustion of their friendship was how they handled the allegations against “Girls” writer Murray Miller. The pair infamously issued a jointly signed defense of Miller in November 2017. Dunham followed it up by issuing two apologies to alleged victim Aurora Perrineau, who accused Miller of rape. But we’re told that Konner — along with a lot of people in their inner circle — continues to believe Miller is innocent.

We’re told the incident was emblematic of a frustration Dunham had about the relationship — because of her higher profile, Dunham took the heat for decisions they made together. Sources say that even for partners, their business relationship was extremely close, with them sharing an agent, as well as other handlers — which worked well when they were BFFs, but became tricky when the relationship cooled.

So, basically, I was wrong – Konner is WORSE than Lena Dunham, but Konner just hides it better because she’s not on-camera all the time. Lena pulled the plug on their partnership, not the other way around, and Konner still believes that they were right to so publicly defend Murray Miller. Could it be that – and I can’t believe I’m saying this – Lena Dunham smartly cut off her partnership with Konner because Konner is more problematic than Lena?

    Possibly.

Or, Lena is leaking this story to make herself look better.

  2. Lady D says:

Truthfully, they sound like a match made in heaven. They deserve each other.

  3. sequinedheart says:

I am stunned at how Lena still manages to make herself come across as terrible. She is a problematic person, period.

  4. Susan says:

I was under the impression that the “joint” statement defending their friend was actually released by Lena with Konner’s name in it without her permission. I mean, I definitely did not imagine this scenario and read either an article or a post somewhere that stated that. And that would be the reason for their falling out. It sounds plausible but at the same time, maybe it was a self serving “leak” by Konner’s camp.

ETA: just to clarify, the story was not that Konner didn’t agree with the statements, but Lena sort of jumped the gun, released a statement to the public and then Konner felt she had to stand by it.

Ugh they are both disgusting horrible people. Can we cancel them now?

  6. Ader says:

I’ve long hated how Jenni Konner never gets dragged for her b.s.

Liberal racist specimens, the both of them.
