Lady Gaga picked up the NBR Award for Best Actress & a BAFTA nomination

National Board of Review Awards Gala

Here are some photos of the people who showed up in New York last night for the National Board of Review Awards. The NBR Awards are announced in advance, so people know when to show up and when to stay home. I actually forgot who won what, even though I covered it at the time – Green Book won Best Picture (WHY), Bradley Cooper won Best Director, Lady Gaga won Best Actress and Sam Elliott won Best Supporting Actor. Regina King picked up Best Supporting Actress, and Barry Jenkins won for his adapted screenplay for If Beale Street Could Talk. Gemma Chan and Constance Wu also came out because Crazy Rich Asians was given the Best Ensemble Award.

Lady Gaga was truly “the star” of the NBRs, perhaps because she didn’t know (or didn’t care) that the NBRs are usually pretty low-key. Sometimes, people just show up in comfortable trousers and a sweater. Not Gaga – she wore a tuxedo dress and FEATHERS. She was so happy to win something.

Speaking of, the BAFTA nominations came out this morning, and Gaga picked up a Best Actress nomination, and B-Coop picked up nominations for Best Actor and Director. You can see the full BAFTA list here – The Favourite got the most nominations, and they severely snubbed If Beale Street Could Talk (it only got one nomination). They also showed some love for First Man, which has been quietly snubbed for many nominations so far. Surprisingly, the BAFTAs also gave some love to BlacKkKlansman – Adam Driver picked up a nomination, as did Spike Lee and the film as a whole. Oh, and the BAFTAs gave Viola Davis a nomination for Widows THANK THE LORD. Widows is a really good movie, y’all. No nominations for Regina King, Emily Blunt, and no Best Picture nomination for Vice, Black Panther or Crazy Rich Asians.

I think Bradley Cooper looks awful clean-shaven like that.

So happy that Regina King has been getting some shine. She is so underrated.

Gaga should have worn this to the Golden Globes. It’s away better look that the blue duvet and grandma hair.

    • Some chick says:

I liked the duvet, but cosign on the hair color being all wrong. Hopefully it was a wig, or temporary color, because it was doing her no favors whatsoever.

Widows was soooo good! I practically begged everyone I know to go see it because none of them had heard of it. Every single person was really great in their roles but I’ll give a special shout out to Liam Neeson because I haven’t seen him act in anything but Taken rehashes or hostage train/flight movies in years.

I’m more concerned with what happened to Bradley Cooper’s looks!
    He looks like a possum.

    • Some chick says:

Aww, but possums are so cute! At my old place, there was a possum family living in the green space outside the building. They were adorable!
