You know how Melania Trump is probably the laziest First Lady in history? She’s so lazy, it didn’t even dawn on me that we haven’t even seen her since Christmas. She “had” to stay in the White House on Christmas, because it would have looked terrible to see her husband’s dinosaur butt wandering around alone like a fat Ebenezer Scrooge. But after Christmas, Mel went down to Mar-a-Lago for New Year’s, and then at some point she came back to Washington, but she hasn’t made any appearances or done any events so far this year. She’s even spending this weekend in Mar-a-Lago, and taking a military flight to do so. So what is this lazy golddigger doing?
While Donald Trump has been keeping himself busy amid the longest government shutdown in U.S. history by beaming over a dining table full of McDonald’s and trash-talking people on Twitter, there’s one government official who’s been notably absent: Melania Trump. Though we are officially more than halfway through the first month of the year, the First Lady has made no official appearances—or any appearances, for that matter.
There have been, however, some signs that she’s around the White House. On January 13, she tweeted out photos of the White House covered in snow from the storm that hit Washington, adding three snowflake emojis to accompany the winter wonderland.
According to Melania’s spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, she’s been using the shutdown time to plan upcoming events. “We are in the planning phase for 2019 in terms of ‘Be Best’ and annual functions at the White House,” she wrote in an e-mail to The Washington Post, adding that Melania and her staff are “using this time for meetings and planning/strategy sessions.”
Thanks to the shutdown, her current staff has been cut in half from its usual 10 people to 5. The Post also noted that some of the First Lady’s duties have been cut as well, including overseeing the usual White House tours.
#MelaniaWasFurloughedToo. I know, she wasn’t furloughed, but they make it sound like poor Melania can’t get anything done during the government shutdown, like she had all these plans, you guys. Bitch loves the shutdown. Now she doesn’t even have to pretend to work the bare minimum. BE BEST, MELANIA.

The “first lady” role is unpaid, outdated, and sexist. If it takes Melania doing nothing to bring major changes to this misogynistic role I’ll be fine with it.
These are great arguments but some of the greatest accomplishments this country has had is because of the First Lady so it is an important role and should be taken seriously.
Go look at what Elenor Roosevelt did for America, Michelle Obama, Lady Bird Johnson, and so on and so on. We would have a lot worse off country if these women didn’t take this role seriously.
Should it be paid yes, but she agreed to have him run, there is a job that she agreed to take if he won so she should do it. If my tax dollars are paying for lazy butt to fly to spas and hair appointments she by God I want her to work.
The free housing, free food, free transportation, free household and professional staff, free travel, free PR if she bothered to use it, etc. It’s not like she isn’t getting anything out of the deal. Of course, like all Trump’s she is a grifter so she isn’t going to work for all of the free stuff.

Bill Clinton being back in the White House was my biggest reservation about Hillary, have a hard time getting past the sexual harassment/potential assault etc. However, he would have taken the roll seriously and probably done a good job. Now I never intended not to vote for her but I wasn’t excited like I was when I voted for Obama, and if I am honest I wanted that feeling for the first woman president I got to vote for and I didn’t have it with Hillary.
Maybe 2020 because there are several women running that I like a lot.

While I agree with you about the role, it’s still a disgrace that she does NOTHING. Pretty much every other First Lady made the best of it and selected a cause, or several, that were important to them, and worked to help people.
I’d rather see the role get changed by a POTUS’ spouse saying, no I want to continue my career, or something else.
The words “help people” are the kicker in the sentence. Melanoma doesn’t *care* about anyone but herself, her son, and her parents. That’s her entire sphere of “caring”, as is evident by her behavior(s). She is beyond a disgrace.

I second the whole if she is going to using tax payer money to fund her lifestyle then she better pay it back with some work. Otherwise Donald can pay for her (was going to say she can pay for it herself, but we all know THAT’s never going to happen).
Melania is not really a role model of a strong, independant woman that makes her own money. She got paid to be the trophy wife before they moved into the White House and she is still a paid trophy wife now!

Agreed. I couldn’t care less what Melania does. We didn’t elect her. I love Michelle Obama, and think it’s a credit to her and our country that she was such an amazing first lady, but that just shouldn’t be a requirement. I’m fine pretending Melania doesn’t exist.

I’m from a country where the first lady thing does not exist so it’s bizarre to me that a woman has to stop everything in her life to accommodate her husband’s. In my country the spouses of the president keep working like before and that’s all. Sometimes they do appear in banquets or things like that but that’s it.

Most countries don’t have an official role for the spouse of the head of state or government but they still don’t sit on their ass and act like trophy wives. As much as I agree that Melania is a lazy useless gold digger with zero shame, the whole First Lady thing is antiquated and sexist. Yeah sure if you ever get a female president and they’re heterosexual and partnered then I guess you’ll have a first man but that won’t prove it’s not an embarrassing anachronism it’ll merely highlight it. One single person is President not a couple. What happens if you ever get a single President? The role is a hangover from the days where women did nothing but support their husbands and organising luncheons was something fitting for their silly little lady brains.
