šŸ’š Birdieā€™s Nest šŸ’š

A post shared by Jessica Simpson (@jessicasimpson) on

Jessica Simpson is very pregnant – sheā€™ll probably give birth to her third child in the next month, at least thatā€™s my guess. Itā€™s been a while since Jessica has gone through all of this – she had back-to-back pregnancies with Maxwell Drew and Ace Knute, and theyā€™re 6 and 5 now. I actually thought Jessica might stop there, but I guess she did want one more. This pregnancy has been very low-key for her – sheā€™s been doing some promotional events around her fashion line, but she hasnā€™t been getting papā€™d regularly, nor does she seem to be seeking out attention.

Jessica threw a third baby shower over the weekend and we got some new information, or at least this was new info to me. Apparently, sheā€™s expecting a girl and she and her husband already have the name picked out: Birdie. Birdie Johnson.

Jessica Simpson is ready for baby No. 3. On Sunday, the fashion mogul shared several snaps from this weekendā€™s baby shower on Instagram. Captioning a handful of images ā€œBirdieā€™s Nest,ā€ a source confirmed to Page Six that Birdie is the name Simpson, 38, and husband Eric Johnson have chosen for their unborn daughter. Joined by sister Ashlee, 34, and mom Tina, 59, Simpson also celebrated her baby-to-be with daughter Maxwell Drew, 6, who posed for a photo with her glowing mom. Longtime pal CaCee Cobb was also in attendance.

[From Page Six]

Thoughts on the name? I think all the names fit together – Maxwell, Ace and Birdie sound like siblings, although it sounds like weā€™re saying their nicknames rather than their formal birth names. Out of all the names, I think I might like Birdie the most? Itā€™s a name for a plucky young girl who is best friends with her grandma.

Oh dear… thatā€™s an unfortunate name to pair with Johnson.

  2. leskat says:

Birdie, just like Busy Philipp’s daughter? It’s cute.

    • Erinn says:

I subconsciously picked both of Busy’s kids names for our kitten, and settled on Cricket. But it was like weeks later when I was looking at an instagram she’d posted and it showed both of the kids’ names that I was like “ohhhhhhh that’s why I was on that trend”.

I think it’s cute too. I don’t know if it was something I’d name a child, I’m not very daring. But it’s definitely something I’d use as a nickname.

EDIT. I just realized that with Jess’s pick both the first and last names can be euphemisms for male junk. Which is a little unfortunate.

      • leskat says:

I would probably have used Birdie as a nickname, too, but that’s because I’m pretty boring lol

  3. TippyToes says:

What has happened to her face/head? She is still attractive but the shape is so odd in relation to what I use to look like.

    • Lama Bean says:

I thought that was just me.

    • Jane says:

I think the enormous amount pf weight she put on for this pregnancy is messing with her features. I get a very strange “square-ish” appearance from her. I could be 100% wrong here, but I think she put on at least 100 pounds in this pregnancy and it is doing quite a number on her.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

She has a full preggo face. She’s a pretty short person, so any excess weight really shows. That’s all.

    • KidV says:

That’s what happens when square faces gain weight. Years ago when I had gained a lot of weight, my face looked like that, but extra flat. I don’t have her cheekbones or chin. It was not an attractive time in my life. LOL

  4. Kittycat says:

    Birdie, Ace, Maxwell.

    Lol

  5. Millennial says:

Birdie was Sandra Bullockā€™s daughterā€™s name in Hope Floats. Which is an excellent movie I need to rewatch.

  6. MrsBanjo says:

I immediately thought of Lady Bird Johnson, but doubt it occurred to them when picking the name.

  7. Lala11_7 says:

Birdie Johnson sounds like she would be a character in “To Kill A Mockingbird”…or some southern gothic novel…

    I approve….

  8. HelloSunshine says:

I donā€™t mind Birdie. I donā€™t think sheā€™ll stick out negatively because of that name and I also think the name fits in well with the other kids. After hearing the story about the little girl named ABCDE and my friends and I talking about the possibility of Kanye and Kim naming their kid Trump, this is refreshing lol

  9. Beth says:

I would never forgive my parents if they gave me a silly name like so many celebrity parents give their children

  10. Abby says:

I think itā€™s cute and it fits their family! Reminds me of Lady Bird Johnson and the Hope Floats character (as previously commented).

  11. Birdie says:

Well… I really like the name. Who would have thoughtšŸ˜„
Mine was inspired by Busy Philipps daughter Birdie Leigh.

  12. Velvet Elvis says:

What’s up with the name Birdie? Brie Bella named her daughter that too.

  13. Zee says:

I think Birdie is a very unfortunate name. Who will ever take her seriously once she out grows her teen years? Would somebody trust a lawyer named Birdie? Or would a woman named Birdie be given respect in male dominated work places? I think a name like Birdie is just a huge disadvantage for a woman. Granted, she’ll most likely become a nepotism model anyway and won’t need to apply for real Jobs but I feel like her name automatically reduces her job opportunities.

    • Abby says:

I dunno. Here in Texas I know Dotties, Dixies, Gigis, Barbies (yes I do), and others in this vein. I don’t think it would hurt her in the South. And I can think of a lot worse names to be had.

  14. lucy2 says:

I think the name Birdie is super adorable…as a nickname. I don’t think I’d chose it for an actual name. Same with Ace.

  15. Elo says:

I donā€™t think itā€™s unfortunate at all. as far as taking her seriously- exactly what sort of female names are taken seriously in the workplace?
Birdie is cute and not uncommon in Texas- itā€™s just an older name. Iā€™m from Texas and I donā€™t know if itā€™s common in the south, but I would guess maybe so.

    • elimaeby says:

Depends on the spelling. My family is southern AF, and we have a few Berties. I think this a cute new spin on the spelling I can’t be mad.

  16. HeyThere! says:

Busy Philips 10 year old is named Birdie. I think itā€™s cute, and a lot better than other names. Itā€™s not like this kid will ever have a normal life.

  17. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Birdie has been a nickname for my 21 year old daughter since she was two, when I told her the chickadees were singing her shortened name Esie (for Elise). Love it!

  18. Annika says:

    It’s a sweet name, although I wouldn’t choose it as a name.
I have a dear Grandma Birdie. It’s her nickname, her real name is Beatrice.

    • AMAyson1977 says:

That’s my thought. My daughter’s legal name lends itself to a nickname, which is what we call her by, but her name is not that familiar diminutive. I don’t have a problem with calling a child Birdie, it’s cute, but she should have a more formal name to use in circumstances where that is warranted, IMO. So give her a formal name that lends itself to Birdie as a nickname. Of course, I doubt JSimp cares what I think, lol!

  19. Raina says:

This is probably pure p.m.s. talking; these names, for me, represent celebs or wealthy people who are so full of ego and yes people that they’ve lost their minds. Something about it screams clueless and bored.
At the same time, a bigger and progressive side of me says “Hey! To each their own! Name your kid whatever you want and do you!”
That said, Maxi, Ace and Birdie makes me want to kick their parents azzes today.

  20. Meg says:

yes, ace is a nickname. although I was born megan and go by meg and still get older customers at my job refusing to call me that and asking ‘no, what’s the name your mother gave you?’ so controlling and dismissive. i’m 34 lady-its not like I told you call me ‘eagle eye’

    • wildflower says:

How weird that anyone would see the name “Meg” (which I love, by the way) and not want to use it. It’s your name! I could see someone maybe asking if you are a Megan, Margaret or if Meg is your given name, just out of curiosity and if they know you a bit. My daughter’s name is Cassidy (my mother’s maiden name) and she has had people ask her if that is her nickname because surely her parents wouldn’t actually name her that. I don’t think it’s even a really out there name, just a surname name. People can be weird.

  21. Maiglƶckchen says:

Similar sentiment on the name, I think it’s cute. But yeesh, Jessica, pregnant or not, gets ever more vulgar in my opinion.

  22. Uppenyrcraut says:

We are all getting old when Jessica looks, well less than fresh. The flower crown is killing me, I wish her all the best though, she was always harmless really.

    • Raina says:

      Yes, very harmless.
Unless she tries to explain fish or chicken to her kids.
Lol. I do have a soft spot for this one.

  23. Tassiegal says:

All I can see is – BAZOOKAS! šŸ˜‰

  24. Gabrielle says:

I love it. Also Birdie can be a diminutive of Elizabeth.

    • ChirpiestFlamingo says:

You sure you’re not confused? Busy Philips’ name is Elizabeth, that’s where the Busy (Bizzie) comes from, and her daughter is Birdie. Nothing to do with Elizabeth
