X Men Apocalypse Fan Screening

The Atlantic published a long-read exposé on Bryan Singer. I want his alleged victims to have their voices heard, but I also don’t want to read the full article because I know it will make me sick. To all the survivors: stay strong and take care of yourself. [Pajiba]

The Apt Pupil set rumors have been around forever and I’m so glad this article has finally come out. I do wish Brad Renfro were here though.

    • Lala11_7 says:

I always thought Brad was one of the one’s that Hollywood…just…DEVOURED…I have NEVER been able to even watch “Apt Pupil” because of the hellish crap I heard around it…that I had NO problem with believing was true…based on the outcome of Brad….and I’m ALSO giving an ETERNAL side eye to Sir Ian too………………………

      • CairinaCat says:

Yeah I love Sir Ian’s acting and the characters he plays… but… I would not be surprised if stuff comes out. Ive already been hearing some stuff for awhile now that makes me side eye him

      • Justjj says:

+1 I have always thought that poor kid was just sent over the edge. So heartbreaking.

      • msd says:

I’ve never heard anything about Ian McKellen that would be categorised as harassment or abuse. He tries it on a lot in classic old queen fashion but backs off if you aren’t interested, basically. Or so I’ve heard.

    • Lolamd says:

What were the set rumors on Apt Pupil?

  2. sacha says:

Finally…I bet he will produce more movies and everything will be alright.

Most famous people are like him,get interested in case like Jimmy Saville, jeffrey epstein

    • alyssa calloway says:

I think that statement might be going too far. Yes, tons of powerful men (and some women) in Hollywood are predators who should be prosecuted. And some of them are enablers that should also be taken down. That’s not in question. But to say that most famous people are “like him” aka pedophiles, is a big stretch.

There are a lot of different reasons the film industry is rife with these abusers (both pedophiles and other kinds). It’s ingrained in the whole system and the guys in charge haven’t been great from the very beginning. Making money and lots of it has always been the goal, and people were and are ruthless in that pursuit. And ties to powerful people help them get away with terrible things even if their bad deeds are known as long as they can bring in a buck.

But I think you’ll find that there are predators like this at the top of a lot of different food chains, if not to the extent of Hollywood. At the heart of it is that both money and white male privilege are king to the people at the top and they ignore a lot.

The industry definitely needs to change. Some things need to be burned to the ground.

    • TaniaOG says:

What do you think the Russians have on Trump? It’s probably a tape of him with a bunch of 15 year old girls that look like his daughter. Think bigger than Epstein.

  3. Mia4s says:

It’s horrendous…and it’s not over yet…his enablers and “friends” are mentioned, but not by name. Keep an eye on this. Do not let this story die. He has already been hired for the Red Sonja movie (Red Sonja…who survives rape FFS!).

Oh and sadly it appears that what many of us feared was going on with Brad Renfro did indeed go on. F*********k Hollywood.

The Academy is insane if it gives a single Oscar to Bohemian Rhapsody with this out there. Insane. The cast and crew are entitled to their paychecks (which they have received) and nothing else. The optics would be crushing for the Academy.

    • L84Tea says:

I’ll admit, I’ve been in the dark about this–I didn’t even know who Bryan Singer was until this news started coming out. Was Brad Renfro one of his victims??

  4. ThatBlackGirl says:

The extermination of 17 million black lives via abortion makes me want to vomit. Dont even reply to me.. I’m not in the mood.

  5. Incredulous says:

Well, I read that Singer article and my feelings, written down, would violate more than one of the commenting guidelines.

    • L84Tea says:

I just read it and I feel neasceous. Hollywood is a truly disgusting place.

      • Mel says:

It truly is. I think there were rumors of Jonathan Brandis back in the day too, not related to singer but just by other Hollywood power players. So sad. Its no wonder so many child stars are so messed up or when they grow up they leave the business.

  6. CairinaCat says:

I’m really surprised Covington allowed a gay kid to be in the school at all, his parents must be really rich.
I went to private Christian and Catholic schools and anyone openly gay would have been kicked out.
Because according to what I was taught in the church, associating with a gay person will corrupt you and make you gay as well, because Satan.
So the kids parents are rich and really well connected.

I haven’t been surprised about anything shitty I have heard about those kids or that school. I grew up in that world and this all sounds like how it was/is
The co-ed schools are bad, but the majority of kids going to all boy or all girl Catholic high schools are privileged entitled bullying nightmares.
The same goes for non Catholic Christian schools. I went to both.

    • Julie says:

This kid didnt even go to Covington, he went to a completely different school. Also hes not banned bc hes gay. He was banned bc he turned in his speech late.

    • joe dokes says:

The gay valedictorian went to a different high school. He didn’t go to Covington, his high school was just in the same diocese as that school.

      • CairinaCat says:

Then I guess I didn’t have to be surprised that particular school let a gay kid in, but I’m still surprised any catholic school did.

but no surprise that covington has NO gay students, or people of color… except for that one black guy I guess.
        So one..
What did that poor guy do wrong to have to go there?

  7. Steff says:

Please read that Catholic church article. Now that is a religious sect of Christianity that needs to be burnt to the ground.

    • CairinaCat says:

I was brought up in the church, at first strict Catholic then a nightmare helping of Fundie Evangelical brainwashing.
I am 49 and still deprogramming myself, and so so angry.

My son’s, my husband and one of my sisters and I are the only ones in my very large family that aren’t racist Trump worshipping deplorables.

I’ve come to believe organized religion is evil itself. Are there some people inside it that do good? Yes of course. But in general it’s a place that evil is safe to grow and flourish.

I’m a Christian in that I still believe in God and the spiritual world, mainly because of personal things I have directly experienced.

But I’m so disgusted with organized religion and the so called Christian Right, I snear when I read a article or see someone on the news proclaiming it. The majority of my own fake christian family make me sick when I hear their hypocrisy in the same breath as their hatred and racism.

Religion needs to be scrubbed from our schools and government.

I’m sick of MORONS like my mom bitching about how little Jimmy and Suzy can’t pray or have their Bible at school (spoiler:they can)
But the school has a section on world religions and were teaching about that and their religious practices, here’s where my mom yells separation of church and state…
Me: “stares at my mom with a blank look”

I think all organized religion needs to be burned to the ground

      • PhillyGal says:

CAIRINA CAT I agree with you 100 percent. I grew up with Catholics and Evangelical Christians. They are like sheep – they buy whatever their leadership is selling, no matter how ridiculous and immoral. It’s quite terrifying. And Catholics – these are people who support a Church that, for years, knew about, allowed and then tried to cover up the sexual abuse of children!

      • Betsy says:

I hear you, and I hope that you continue to find peace as you deal with your religious uprbrinbing.

But I look at my milquetoast, middle of the road, liberal-leaning Lutheran church and think it’s not all as horrible as you say. I do happily concede that it’s easily *most* organized religion that is horrible.

    • CloudAtlas says:

What’s going on with the Pope Audience Hall, seriously?! I’ve not been there but the photos are scary.

    • sid says:

Sinead O’Connor tried to tell people all those years ago but all she got for it was vitriol and hate. Well look, she was right.

  8. Mia4s says:

Very important addendum to the Bryan Singer exposé. For those wondering why it started at Esquire but ended up at The Atlantic:

    twitter.com/TheAtlanticPR/status/1088135920484798464

It was approved for publication by the legal department at Esquire, and then Hearst Publishing executives killed it. Powerful enablers at work. Do not let this story die!!!

    • Alice says:

      AMEN!

      • LeMa says:

I’ve also noticed that this story is NOT being reported by some of the outlets who had multiple articles on Chris Brown yesterday. They are straight up ignoring this story. Make you wonder about what skeleton might be in their closets, hein? This story need to be kept alive because this monster is still being protected. This wold is sick. SMH.

    • QueenB says:

No way Singer on his own has this much power. He must have dirt on really powerful people.

There are also a lot of pics with beloved actors and Singer in private settings. Obviously they worked together on the X-Men movies but you never know.
Maybe this is a house of cards that really brings everything down. It is possible that the huge Weinstein effect was small compared to that. Weinstein was a lone guy abusing many. This has the potential to be about rings of powerful people abusing children.

From experience this will probably die down quickly unfortunately.

      • CloudAtlas says:

Thank you, QueenB. Sadly I think you’re on point and hope you’re right about this bringing everything down.

      • LeMa says:

Yeah I totally agree that Singer is part of a very very powerful ring of abusers with the same interests as him, something that Weinstein didn’t have. TMZ hasn’t even reported this. People are telling on themselves with their silence. *major side eye*

    • lucy2 says:

Too much power in groups like Hearst. Can you imagine all the stuff that’s happened that we don’t know about, because rich white men covered it up to help themselves and their rich white male friends?

    • FF says:

Hearst as in, Lydia Hearst, wife of Chris Hardwick?

  9. Lala11_7 says:

One thing to note…the MASSIVE city of Los Angeles charge and convict the LEAST AMOUNT of rape cases of any state in the country…and they have held this sordid record for DECADES….and you do NOT have to wonder why….

  10. Rebecca says:

I just watched “An Open Secret” the other day. It’s a documentary about a child molesting ring in Hollywood. Bryan Singer is a part of it. Cory Feldman has been right for years. Everything he has said is true. I can’t believe no network would air the “Open Secret” documentary. You can only watch it on the internet. Hollywood definitely has issues. When are they going to learn to stop covering for people who rape and sexually abuse?

Bryan Singer was actually fired from Bohemian Rhapsody. I read somewhere that Rami Malek purposely made it difficult for him on set and that’s one of the reasons Singer quit showing up and got fired. If that’s true, good for him.

    • Mia4s says:

“Bryan Singer was actually fired from Bohemian Rhapsody.”

With 2-3 weeks of filming left. To keep his director credit he would have had to have shown the DGA (union) that the finished product was well over half his. He has his director credit. Bohemian Rhapsody is a Bryan Singer film. He directed it. Including the big Live Aid finale.

“I read somewhere that Rami Malek purposely made it difficult for him on set”

Oh gee, let’s give him a cookie for that while he tells us more about how he didn’t know anything about any allegations because Freddie Mercury’s ghost protected him and makes dismissive comments not acknowledging any of the victims. Also if he did it, he did it because he didn’t like Singer’s attitude, not because of the abuse of underage boys. It was self preservation, not some noble act. 🙄

      • Rivkah says:

That comment about Freddie Mercury’s ghost just killed me with second hand embarrassment when I read it. Yikes

      • Rebecca says:

I skimmed through the article quickly. I did not catch the part about Rami Malik. I did not know Rami Malek said he did not know about the allegations about Bryan Singer when I wrote the comment, obviously.

    • Mama says:

Rami has said he didn’t know anything about Singer rumors so not sure why he would have made it hard for him on the set. He has denied knowing anything and that’s why he signed up to be in the movie. And now he is basically using Freddie has a shield saying once he found out, he had to continue for Freddie – which is kind of crap considering how badly they throw Freddie under the bus in the movie.

    Monday’s podcast was so fun.

Re: tv shows. I binged all 4 seasons of Schitts Creek and laughed my ass off, and although I never liked that weird type of comedy before, I’m obsessed. I cannot get over Eugene Levy and Catherine OHara. And the actors who play their kids? Ridiculous Geniuses, the entire cast.

Also did you see the Last OG? Tracy Morgan’s and Tiffany Haddish?? I liked it. I think it would be cool if she were in a prime time tv show on one of the networks.

Haunting of Hill House sh-t the bed. Interested in hearing those w/same opinion. Naysayers miss me. Lol

Sorry to bother you, omg, it rocked me. That was some crazy sh-t!!! It was slow in parts but woah, other parts were insane in the membrane. Was that Armie Hammer? Tessa Thompson is so beautiful. Wtf!!!! Crazy craze

Will Leo D marry/knock up current gf?

Any Guesses on Godparents for Meg and Harry’s baby? I know you said you don’t think twins, but SAY IF IT WERE SO, would they split Godparenting? Any guesses of baby names?

My guess for the birth is March 17.

    • Mama says:

All hail to the new Schitthead. 😀 I love the show so very much.

    • Brittney says:

The actor who plays their son IS Eugene’s son… and he also created the show! Read Dan Levy’s recent profile in Vulture if you like the show.

  12. Junedoom says:

Small correction: the valedictorian named in the article didn’t actually go to Covington Catholic, but at a neighboring school in the diocese.

  13. CloudAtlas says:

This reminds me of Sascha Baron Cohen’s interview about how the police seemed to have ignored his information about some concierge in las vegas who was willing to help him “procure” (awful word) children for terrible purposes. And someone mentioned Jimmy Saville, a well known trafficker and pedophiliac, up the thread – he had friends high up, all the way to the royal family and has been pictured numerous times with them. The child-trafficking thing is worldwide, is not confined to the entertainment business, and most probably goes much deeper than we know.

  14. Hv says:

I couldn’t even read the whole article about Singer. It’s horrific.

    • Harryg says:

      I couldn’t either. It’s great reporting, but I couldn’t finish it.
What horrid creeps, he and his group.

  15. Lala11_7 says:

My issue with Sir Ian is that he LOVED partying with Spacey/Singer…JUST LOVED IT…

    So….

    No…..
