Kensington Palace staffers apparently refer to Duchess Meghan as ‘Me-Gain’

Sussex Morocco Asni school

Some of my tweeps have a theory that the Prince of Wales is behind all of the weird and bad press between Camp Cambridge and Camp Sussex. I think Prince Charles was absolutely behind *some* of it last fall, as I said at the time. Charles wanted to look like he was stepping in to “fix” things between his sons and the duchesses. But as time goes on, are we really supposed to maintain this argument that Prince William isn’t partially behind some of the Sussex smears too? William has always thrown his brother under the proverbial bus throughout their whole lives. Harry only recently started to mind it when William gave Meghan the same treatment. So, after several days of bad/weird press about the Duchess of Cambridge being a Mean Girl, who would have guessed that there’s an oh-so-convenient story about how Kensington Palace staffers have given Meghan a bitchy nickname:

The Duchess of Sussex has earned the nickname ‘Me-gain’ among Kensington Palace staff, according to Tatler. Meghan, 37, is understood to have rubbed some courtiers up the wrong way, with insiders previously revealing she had been dubbed ‘Duchess Difficult’. Now, in a new report published in the May edition of Tatler, another unflattering nickname has been suggested: ‘Me-gain’. The name is even said to be used by members of her own staff at Kensington Palace.

Recalling the vicious attacks Sarah Ferguson was subject to after marrying into the Royal Family, the article reads: ‘Meghan has seen nothing like that – even though staff at Kensington Palace are now calling her “Me-Gain”.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I would consider this part of the smear campaign, only Jesus take the wheel, this is so dumb. The Kensington Palace courtiers have had their knickers in a twist about every single thing Meghan does or does not do. She breathes and half of the KP staff are on her throat calling her a cracker-eating American bitch. And after months of it, I hope that people see how obvious it is, and I hope that people see that courtiers are the ones who look like utter a–holes in these stories. They literally can’t handle it when a duchess wants to make more than two appearances a week. They are losing their minds over the fact that Meghan has a work ethic and expects paid employees who work for her to actually do their jobs. And so they make up juvenile little names. Me-Gain and Duchess Difficult. GMAFB.

Being called Me-gain was the least eyebrow raising part of the Tatler article.

    • lanne says:

That Tatler piece was a racist, classist hatchet job. Appalling in its snobbery and othering and WOC bashing. I kno that Tatler’s a “posh folks” magazine, but that article employed every single Upper Class “know your place” convention that exists. It could be a parody of itself if it had been written as a satire, but it’s no satire. It makes the entire aristo class look bad. All that was missing was an ode to the Mitford sisters, the Hitler-loving ones, (but who cares if they were fascist because they had FABULOUS style). Vomit. I hope the Meyhive roasts their asses.

      • Beetlejuice says:

Agree, but WTF is the Meyhive? I hope it’s not what I think it is, coz LOL, just no…

      • manda says:

I wish we could “like” comments, Ianne’s was great ^^^

      • Kittycat says:

        Meyhive.

        Not all heros wear capes.

      • joro says:

        @ Ianne
All of this *Meryl clapping meme*

      • Ader says:

Yes! So sick of people trying to minimize the abuse Meg is getting. Even trying to equate it to what Kate deals with is a super-subtle form of implicit bias denial. Beyond frustrating. Personally? I DO think Kate and Will are behind some of it!

      • Castle Toz says:

Beyoncé’s Beyhive has adopted Meghan per orders of their queen, thus the Meyhive

      • Christina says:

Lanne, you win!!! I want to be part of the Meyhive!

This sounds like a “what about” article to counter the Kate stories about the falling out with her friend. They are saying, “what about Meghan?”.

    • MoxyLady says:

Genuine question. Who are courtiers? In the past, they were landed gentry and aristocrats that somehow served as advisors to the monarch right? In retrospect that definition seems …. lacking. What exactly do they do? Do they live in the palace? So they survive off of the Queen? Do they get paid? What is going on?

      • Tina says:

They’re mostly staff, employees. Some are like the Queen’s Ladies in Waiting, who are unpaid and work two weeks (part time) on, four weeks off, but most are (generally poorly paid, but grand) staff. Some are given accommodation, which means even more meager wages. (They make up for it once they leave royal service).

  2. Alissa says:

That’s a really dumb and lame nickname, and I am so sick of this constant belittling of both of them in the press. let Megan and Kate just live their lives and be done with it, I don’t understand who this is trying to impress.

    • Enn says:

They won’t because clicks are money and money is everything. I have a hard time taking this seriously because I think it’s mostly gossip rags (now digital) making stuff up and seeing what sticks.

I also think the RF as a whole is not evolved enough to know how to handle digital and social media, honestly. The days of print were different.

      • Erinn says:

I 100% agree with that. I think there’s a lot of generalized stories that are made up… that aren’t specific enough to bother with denials for the most part, and they genuinely have no idea what to do about it.

The thing is – people are going to believe whatever feeds into their own bias. If they don’t like Meghan, they’re going to buy the negative stories about her. If they don’t like Kate they’re going to take the same kind of unverified stories as gospel. This isn’t something I can ever see changing, either. People are always going to be biased and enjoy the kinds of stories that make their opinions feel valid.

Personally… I really don’t think the Cambridge’s are twirling their mustaches and spreading stories about Meghan. But knowing that people are so ready to eat that kind of story up – it gets created and believed. Same as the kinds of stories about Meghan being so American and rude – the people who don’t like her are thrilled to hear that.

      • Eyeroll says:

        @erinn
Totally agree. I made a similar comment the other day and got jumped all over but I think you expressed it really well.

      • A says:

@Erinn, the problem with this now is that William doesn’t need to be actively malicious in order for that perception to cause Harry and Meghan harm. He doesn’t need to sit at his desk and rub his fingers together and plot on how to bring the Sussexes down. Even the smallest comment can be seen as offhand and dismissive and spun that way–I know this because I’ve been in a similar situation. The only way to stop that narrative from building is to become aware, and actively change the way you speak about someone.

    • Megan says:

Truly a stupid nickname. The courtiers are insufferable snobs.

      • Char says:

One could imagine that people with a lot of free time in their hands and such education would be able to at least find a better petty nickname. Gosh.

      • Some chick says:

        “The courtiers are insufferable snobs.”

        The courtiers are insufferable knobs.

        FTFY! 😛

    • Desolee says:

It would be a good nickname (as much as waity and kannot and willnot were) if it was relevant to her behaviour, but I thought it was like illegal for her to gain anything from being a royal. For example she cant accept free designer clothes now. So what is she gaining? (Besides travel and experiences) Is she allowed to publish a book and pocket the money? I’m guessing no. Someone enlighten me as to what they think she’s gaining ?!

      • BabaBlacksheep2 says:

Really? She married a prince and is set for life. She has more fame than she could ever achieve on her own. She gets the British people to pay (a lot) for her wardrobe and she never has to work for more than an hour at a time. What did she gain? Lol oh honey.

      • ProfPlum says:

Not surprised that you weighed in Babablacksheep2. Yeah, she achieved incredible fame through this marriage, which looks to most like a true love match, FWIW. But she has given up a lot, including any kind of anonymity and privacy AND generosity and grace from onlookers who have been incredibly cruel to someone who has relocated to a new country, married into a new family, had to deal with her toxic BS family, started a new job, all while pregnant. Oh, and all of this was done with the overlay of racist, xenophobic, and classist commentary. So, yeah, she gained some material comfort, while losing a lot.

      • Megan says:

According to the Tattler, she gained a sorbet maker.

      • Desolee says:

It’s a lifestyle that she already had something close to. Fame is the main difference. Now maybe she can afford more serious vacations than before like the Maldives often BUT she can’t take them or the public complains. She can’t take anything away
        Except the fame.
Maybe her friends can profit like Kate’s family profits from adjacency

    • otaku fairy... says:

+1. Being married to royalty seems best for fiction and fantasies, not real life. Too much baggage.

  3. runcmc says:

This is SO incredibly crappy. I honestly believe that they call her that. And I have no idea how she’s going to put up with this treatment long-term. At my current job, I was hired in to replace someone retiring in a very senior role. Apparently somebody in-house applied and was PISSED she didn’t get the job, so now they all hate me and talk about me (simply because I got the job, not because of anything I’m doing). I am already looking for an exit. I don’t know how the heck SHE is going to deal with it because that environment is toxic and she doesn’t have an easy out, beyond breaking up her family which I’m sure is not an option.

She truly is the new Diana. Poor thing.

    • Kittycat says:

Despite the crap from her Markle family, media, and the couriers, Meghan has a lot of support.

This is what she signed up for and why she actually works.

    • WingKingdom says:

I’m so sorry to hear about your work situation. That is awful. How dare they treat you badly simply because you were the better candidate and deserved the job. If you do move on, does that woman think she’s just going to slide into the position? She ought to consider what you’re going to share in your exit interview.

    • Alittlesugar says:

Atleast Diana was loved by everyone when she first married till her marriage was known to have broken down in the early 90s. That’s still the whole 80s and 1st 10 years of marriage where she couldn’t have set a foot wrong according to the press and public. Meghan is getting a similar media treatment to what Diana got after the seperation and divorce. Kate to, got bad press in her dating years and for the first few years of marriage. But still doesn’t make any of them Diana!

      • Jess says:

I think part of why meg isnt getting the love like diana is because shes not white and running to the press. That’s why they keep forcing her to talk to her dad because they’ve got nothing on this woman.

      • BayTampaBay says:

The article in People magazine caused many people to change their mind on Meghan. I am one of those people. The People Magazine article should never have happened.

    • Shirurusu says:

Runcmc- Im so sorry to hear that! Same thing happened to me at a job two years ago (I had no idea when they hired me, I figured it out later), I hope you can get the heck out of there soon! I stayed 6 months and they were the most miserable 6 months of my life! But I’m very happy in my current job 🙂 Toxicity starts at the top and travels down an organization in my opinion, which is why it’s best to just leave when people are allowed to treat you like shit. In my current work place that would never be allowed to happen because management is great and actually deals with problems. Good luck!!

    • TabithaStevens says:

@runcmc – Don’t give your co-workers the time of day. Just do the best job you can do and SMILE while you are at it. I wouldn’t let a bunch of petty fools take my job away – let them stew in their own vile.

  4. Trillian says:

What happened to „Di 2“? And what‘s it with the stupid nicknames anyway? Are they all 12?

    • SNAP says:

LOL…Right? I bet Meg just thinks to herself “YOU WISH!!! it’s Meghan, bitches!” Crack that American whip, Meg!!! Go full on Britney and quote them that awesome song “Work bitch!” So appropriate for them jelly slackers!

  5. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

This crazy does nothing but underscore the necessity for eradication. No ‘royality,’ no problem.

    • minx says:

      Yep, there you go.

    • Original Jenns says:

I don’t think getting rid of the monarchy will solve racism but ok?

      • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Lol no, but then again racism isn’t a ‘royal-only’ problem. I’m specifically speaking against having royalty. We all tend to do that as social humans anyway, is there any real need to continue what has historically created fear, oppression, aggression and a litany of unexcusable behaviors? What’s the point? They’re different now? Why set one family apart and above the citizens and then have those citizens support them? It’s as crazy as having a fascist dictator as a US POTUS. We never learn.

      • Margaritas For Breakfast says:

It will give the insufferable Brits one less thing to whine about. I used to think well of British people before Meghan and Harry.

      • Tina says:

There are many (legitimate) reasons to think we’re insufferable, but I wouldn’t put the monarchy at the top of the list. The Swedes seem to manage very well with theirs.

    • Jb says:

Exactly! This fascination/tearing down of the “Royal” family would disappear if they just got rid of the monarchy BUT we all know that wouldn’t happen and the Royal family would hate to see their titles go. Circle of life for everyone involved.

      • Desolee says:

My bf just took his Canadian citizenship test last year and I helped him study (just morale help as I didn’t retain this info from highschool.) I ended up learning some things too. one of our discussions was about the monarchy, I explained that I had no memory of the Governor General (nominated by the PM and approved by her majesty) ever having said no to laws being approved. The GG is just ceremonial. My bf pointed out, what if a law was suggested about leaving the commonwealth, what will the GG say. It was an aha moment for me, had never considered that Canada actually kind of under the queens control.

      • nic919 says:

The 1982 repatriation removed all power from the UK. The GG acts upon the recommendation of the Prime Minister and if the GG departed from it that would be huge and likely unconstitutional. The Queen has zero say in a Canadian decision to leave the commonwealth or to become a republic. There was talk that when Harper prorogued the Parliament that the GG could have stepped in to stop it. That never happened. At most the Queen could be consulted by a GG for advice, but her opinion is not binding.

  6. Reeta Skeeter says:

Whoever marries into the royal family is going to get this sort of treatment from the British press. It’s disgusting but the royal family are sort of seen as sitting ducks, as they never reply to the press. As such, people just continue to take pot shots. You’d think the press would have learnt from their vile treatment of Diana, but it seems as long as controversy and drama sell, the dignity of those they write about is bottom of the list.

    • Melly says:

From what I remember, Kate wasn’t treated like this by the press during the first few years of her marriage. I don’t think Kate is even treated as badly as Meghan is now. The way the British press has treated Meghan, especially so soon after the wedding and while she is pregnant is pretty unique in a bad way.

      • Alittlesugar says:

Kate was treated horribly by the press for most the time she and Wills were dating and for a while after marriage. Not until she had George and close to having Charlotte did the press seem to calm down on her apparent middle class-ness.

      • Becks1 says:

Kate was treated poorly, but since Meghan came on the scene the criticism against her has completely gone away. And the tone of the criticism against her was different.

      • Ader says:

Kate had her detractors, but it was NOWHERE near what Meg is dealing with. It’s frustrating that people are trying to continue with that narrative, because as long as people continue to cling to it, the less likely the real issue will be addressed…which is that Meg is being treated this way because she is black-biracial. Period.

I suspect many folks don’t want to acknowledge it because that would bring them one step closer to having to look at their own casual, ingrained racism, and we all know how much people hate doing that.

      • TheOriginalMia says:

@Ader, you’re exactly right. There’s no comparison between the all out war against Meghan and the mild snark that’s been leveled at the Dolittle Duchess.

      • Nic919 says:

The criticism from the mainstream press stopped once the engagement was announced. And it didn’t start up until the talk of Will and Kate still not being full time was happening, which was after Charlotte was born. There was nowhere near the constant criticism that Meghan has endured from day one, which includes racism that never applied to Kate. And there is the added factor of social media, which wasn’t as popular in 2011.

There is no equivalent and it’s gaslighting to suggest otherwise. Even now a story about Kate being queen bee has turned into “Meghan is getting her PR team to plant this story” . Kate never got criticized by the press when she was about to give birth. Never.

      • notasugarhere says:

Kate received nothing like this. She was protected during the college years and a few years after. It wasn’t until a few years after graduation, when she was going on 10 vacations a year with William and not working? That’s when the Waity Katie nickname, “What does she do all day”?, stories came along. But still nothing compared to the full-on, from day one attacks Meghan has seen.

      • Reese. says:

        @NOTA
You feel bad for all the attacks that MM is receiving in the press but still stand by your choice to defend and quote racist classicists reporters?
Or is it simply bc it’s ok when the racist reporter attacks those you don’t like?
Either you stand against racism and distrimination or you don’t.
You don’t get defend a racist reporter one day and then get to be appalled by it the next. Bc now you are part of the problem.

      • notasugarhere says:

I’ll repeat what I wrote yesterday. Whatever else he was, Whitaker was the ultimate insider. He was personally close to Diana, as was Edwards, and he knew where the bodies were buried.

      • Reese. says:

        @ Nota
replace “whatever else he was” with “he was a racist asshat”. You can’t defend racism. You quote a racist to prove your point of view to discret whomever supports your narrative. You defend you action by saying he knows where the bodies were buried. Then turn around and say MM is facing discrimination and have the audacity to be upset by it. You are the worst form a hypocrite.
You choose to be taken aback by racist classist misogynist reporters when they support your point of view. It’s disgusting.
Learn to stand against all form of discrimination not just when it suits your personal viewpoint.

      • notasugarhere says:

Been watching royals for decades, and the RRs too. I don’t think regular readers on this site for the last three years doubt my support for Meghan and what she’s going through, whatever efforts you might be making otherwise. Curious you’re doing that, really.

Again, whatever else he was, he was the ultimate royal insider. He was with Diana almost from the beginning, from the time he noted her using a mirror to spy on the reporters watching her and Charles. He used to counsel her while they sat together on the front stoop of her apartment building. His knowledge from those decades is fascinating.

      • Reese. says:

Again, he was a racist reporter. It doesn’t matter how good he was at his job when he did it with a bias against people of colour. What don’t you see about that?
You are being a hypocrite in choosing to support some reporters when it suits your narrative.

      • Anna says:

Honestly, at least half of the criticism I read about Meghan (if not more) is tinged with racism. Kate’s criticism was not the same.

  7. mm11 says:

That’s one of the nicknames that the Megxit crazies have so It’s possible that they’re the source of this stupid article.

  8. Jessica says:

This makes KP look extremely immature and unprofessional. I’m glad Meghan is leaving and bringing in people who will respect her.

  9. aquarius64 says:

Let William and Kate keep these idiots on the payroll. This validates the Cambridges are behind the smears. Bill is upset the woman of substance is outdoing his wife. Meghan was appointed VIP of the Commonwealth Trust. Does Kate have a role of equal or greater prominence being future queen and all?

    • TheOriginalMia says:

No, she doesn’t. I’m sure her fans will say POW/QC are greater roles, but she won’t have those for awhile with QE’s longevity.

      • Megan says:

What on earth makes you think Kate would want that role? There’s no competition here because Kate is most definitely not looking for more work.

    • Ainsley7 says:

Harry and Meghan were given the positions because they don’t have a clear cut role in the future. This is the equivalent to Prince Andrew being made trade ambassador. I’m not saying it’s not important. It’s just that William will be Prince of Wales/ King and doesn’t need to be the figure head of anything to explain why he is funded by the tax payer. Anne has the title Princess Royal and is the only daughter. Edward was kind of snuck in due to Sophie and him doing some very embarrassing things. They weren’t supposed to be working Royals at all. I’m sure there were a lot of talks about what Harry and Meghan wanted to focus on and that’s why the Commonwealth Trust was chosen. It’s a natural fit for both of them.

      • Some chick says:

Anne is the Princess Royal because they wouldn’t allow the actual firstborn to rule unless it had a penis. So.

Anne should have been the next Queen. She kinda got the worst of both worlds. OTOH, she doesn’t have to be Queen, so there’s that.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Charles is older than Anne by two years. Charles is the first born offspring of QEII.

    • notasugarhere says:

W&K should have been the ones doing all this Commonwealth work, but as usual, they don’t want to work. HM and Charles both know that.

      • Mia says:

@notassugarhere with their lack of work ethic, I wouldn’t bet on William becoming King. After Prince Charles, UK and the commonwealth might decide a Royal Family isn’t needed.

      • notasugarhere says:

Unless something turns around quickly in William, there will be big changes. Only a third of the Commonwealth countries have the British monarch as their own, the rest are independent. I can see the big ones (Canada, Australia, NZ) breaking away quickly after HM passes. Depending on Brexit, Scotland may go for another independence referendum too.

      • Tina says:

Believe it or not, in the last Scottish independence referendum (which seems a million years ago now), the pro-independence side was keen to emphasise that the Queen would remain Queen of an independent Scotland. Who knows what would happen post-Brexit and post-ERII, but it’s not a given that an independent Scotland would necessarily be a republic.

      • Megan says:

I seriously doubt that an institution that has endured for 1,000 years will be undone by William. You give him far too much credit.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Megan, I wish we could up-ticks comments here. I 100% agree with all that your statement on Bill Cambridge; he is given too much credit and he is not that smart. I do not understand what Bill Cambridge has to gain by throwing Brother Sussex under the bus.

  10. HK9 says:

So the staffers are bitchy to the point that they run to the press with their foolishness. Maybe that’s why there’s a problem-they don’t know how to be professional. You’d think working for someone who’s working for her charities/patronages would be a good look, especially in this climate. They will never learn.

  11. Toot says:

The whole Tatler article is online.

I’m glad Meghan has her true friends still around her because those aristos suck. Harry probably warned her and that’s why he said they’re a team against all that would come their way. I totally think the Cambridge crew at KP were behind the smears against Meghan because all the crap didn’t start until after the very successful tour. Will and Kate never felt the need to put out a firm denial against all the BS about Meghan and Kate, but were quick with that Norfolk crap. Says a lot.

This is why M&H are getting the hell away from KP.

    • lanne says:

      KP is toxic. Good riddance

      • BayTampaBay says:

Harry could have married Chelsy of Cressy (or whatever her name is) and all this PR mess would still be happening. The Daily Fail and The Sun and The Express have to fill their pages with something and no one, outside of the UK, really cares about the PM, that Rees-Mogg Person or BloJo the Clown.

I think the people who work at KP start all this mess so they are the ones holding the power. Did KP ever like anyone? I seem to recall that at the start Sarah York was well like because she did exactly as she was told and never argued with her advisors but I could be having selective memory as I was always a Fergie fan.

  12. Lisa says:

Nasty people. Hopefully the move to Buckingham Palace helps.

  13. Digital Unicorn says:

This is a continuation of that Kay hatchet job article from yesterday to deflect from the Real Housewives of Norfolk drama that William is desperate to bury. Not sure its true but given the mostly young and inexperienced yes people that the DoLittles have surrounded themselves with at KP I would not surprise me if it were.

Stories like this not only make the DoLittle look bad but they also make KP themselves look immature and unprofessional.

Many of the Tatler staff are on the fringes of the Turnip Toff circle that the DoLittles are at the centre of so yeah, Tatler is a Cambridge mouthpiece.

    • Toot says:

The editor is a friend of Kate.

      • lily says:

That’s true, they went on vacations together back in the St Andrews days….when he first got the job, he literally said “Tina Brown (former editor of Vanity Fair) had Princess Diana, I have Meghan Markle” HIS OWN WORDS

      • BayTampaBay says:

The Tatler could not care less about Bill & Cathy Cambridge. The only thing Tatler cares about is selling magazines and generating online clicks thereby making a METRIC FUCK TONNE of money. Tatler, like US Vogue, is one of the few magazines that still has a healthy hard-copy circulation due to the photography and pictures.

    • Kara says:

Calling William and Kate “Doolittle” is as dumb as “me-gain”. Are all royal watchers and fusty British people 12-year-olds?

      • Melly says:

I actually think “Doolittle” is pretty funny and creative

      • Alittlesugar says:

And so is ‘Waity’ – it sounds silly and ridiculous just like Meagain/Megain.

      • Becks1 says:

Dolittle is funny, since its true. Also, I’m not sure the actual staff calls Kate that.

      • JadedBrit says:

@Kara I don’t know: I think Bill has had fun playing Henry Higgins. After all, we were told that the reason Kate made so few public appearances for the first seven years of their marriage was that he was preparing her for her Royal Role. If that doesn’t make her Eliza, what does?
-Incidentally, we Brits aren’t fusty. I take massive exception to that claim.

      • notasugarhere says:

Dolittle was first used for Fergie, they recycled it for Kate. William hasn’t been moulding or guiding anyone. He is lazy, Kate is lazy, two peas in a pod.

      • JustSayin' says:

Funny how they were created by the same people.

How quickly we forget….it was only two years ago, before the great whitewash of DoC.

@JadedBrit, I do not even know what fusty means! LOL! LOL!

I believe I read somewhere that QEII gave Bill & Cathy three years to settle into their marriage as she did not want a repeat of the Chuck & Di situation. QEII felt that Diana was pushed into too much too quickly. I am not sure I 100% believe the “Bill is cheating on Cathy” rumors and storyline. After what Wills’ mother went through, I find the rumors hard to believe. Rose Hanbury does not seem to me to be “Wills type of girl”.

      • Princessk says:

I think Willnot and Kannot is the funniest. Royals and royal insiders love nicknames, all members of the RF are given nicknames.

    • Beach Dreams says:

I definitely think we’ll be seeing an upswing in these types of articles this week. That huge PR blunder by Will/Camp Cambridge all but guarantees it.

      • Oh No says:

That would be such a trash move to hide behind Meghan and Harry to deflect from that mind numbing saga of the Turnip Twerps. It would lead me to believe that there is some real truth to the rumors and conspiracies floating around.

Despite believing most of the stories about Meaghan are trash, this is just odd

    • V says:

Yeah, the Cambridges have mouthpieces everywhere. It’s becoming the template for everything vaguely related to M&H. It’s quite a superficial and myopic take, honestly. In this case,it’s nonsensical too.
Above all when you’re talking about people who are literally part of the same aristo circles where they ALL move, including Harry and his friends, who are all brought up in the piece, along with the courtiers and “sources close to” Charles. Even putting aside the fact that this Tatler piece doesn’t come from nowhere and is going to be published in the May issue for their anniversary, nothing in that article looks put hastily together the other day, because William told someone at Tatler that they need to deflect attention from the Royal Housewives of Norfolk..
Independently of the shady vibe of it all, there’s a series of anecdotes, descriptions of social dynamics that I doubt were fabricated by the author and that have nothing to do with the Cambridges launching every day a new smear campaign.

    • MA says:

It’s very interesting that Tatler is focusing on another Meghan hit piece and is barely touching or only now catching up on the Cholmondeley story. Isn’t that supposed to be their thing?

  14. IE says:

According to Tatler Charles and Queen didn’t want bigger budget for Sussexs, it was because of William they got it

    • Ainsley7 says:

They think that, when Charles becomes King, Harry and Meghan will still be funded by the Duchy of Cornwall. That would mean that William would control their budget. They will actually still be funded by Charles like every other working royal. The only reason that Charles covered Will, Kate, Harry and Meghan was the PR. The Duchy of Cornwall is technically his private income. That’s what they mean when they say that a dress or furniture was paid for privately. They just want people to think that means the Cambridges or the Sussexes paid for it. The tax payer issue comes in because he doesn’t pay proper taxes on the money.

      • Silas Marner says:

I thought was very strange. Surely the people at Tatler would know better than to assume that William would pay for his brother’s office with Duchy of Cornwall funds. William won’t fund Harry until William is King.

    • Nic919 says:

Emily Andrews also made reference to that in the recent On Heir podcast.

    • notasugarhere says:

LOL at the idea of William advocating for Harry and Meghan. Or that he wants them to have more funding, to expand their Household, so they can keep making W&K look lazy.

All working royals, save Charles, are supposed to be funded out of the Sovereign Grant. Moving Harry and Meghan to SG funding is what is supposed to happen, what should have happened with W&K as well. The Duchy doesn’t belong to Charles personally, so “private funds” are out of his personal pocket NOT Duchy funds.

HM and Charles are planning for the future by funding H+M’s household out of the SG. Right now it is co-funded, but will transition completely to the SG in a new fiscal year I expect. Nothing unusual in this at all, this is how they should all have been funded to begin with, and how H+M will be funded for decades into the future.

      • Ainsley7 says:

The Duchy of Cornwall was set up as the Prince of Wales’s personal income. It’s an entailed estate. So, it is his until he is no longer Prince of Wales, but he only has limited control over it. It’s attached to the title. The Queen has the Duchy of Lancaster for her personal income. That’s why they agreed to pay taxes on the income. They just keep those taxes as low as possible. The sovereign grant is only supposed to be used for their work related expenses.

      • Tina says:

The Duchy of Cornwall is not a normal entail. If the Duke of Westminster wants to sell some of his land, he can. Charles is not entitled to sell or transfer any of the underlying assets in the estate, only to manage them. Charles is not given any of the Sovereign Grant money, because he has the Duchy of Cornwall money. The income from the Duchy is there to fund both his private and work-related expenses.

  15. RoyalBlue says:

It’s no coincidence it came out to deflect attention from the Will and Rose story. How mean is that though? Picking on a harmless person. Where is the swift denial from KP now? This proves the heads together campaign is just a big fraud. Who are W&K to talk about bullying when they permit it under their very own roof. I can’t take them seriously.

  16. jules says:

This is getting so ridiculous, it sounds like a 5th grader came up with this.

  17. Sam says:

did they source that nickname from Tumblr cos that’s what the tinhatters and DF call Meghan
Tatler were the ones that said American girls are only good for sex not marriage, that magazine is full of snobby rich people that are pressed Harry didn’t marry one of their own

  18. Sash says:

This is all so dumb. Let the woman live.

  19. Akua says:

Question, why do ppl think it going to stop when they move to BP.

    • Toot says:

The crap about Kate and Meghan will stop because they will no longer have to be around each other, except family functions or work engagements. As for the rest, Meghan and Harry will now have a staff dedicated to just them who they are choosing, not Will.

    • notasugarhere says:

Will it stop? No. But Harry and Meghan will have the power of BP behind them, instead of the W&K-focused staff at KP.

  20. guest says:

Funny since that kinda sounds like the nickname the megxit group gave her. KP sounds like a cluterfck and good luck to the anointed one William. His staff seems to match him 🤷‍♀️

Meghan needs to continue to do what shes been doing. The RR were never expecting the backlash they get from people on how they treat her. Meghan has a very vocal fanbase and they arent afraid to defend her.

  21. TheOriginalMia says:

Further proof the Cambridges, Middletons and KP are behind the smears. Meghan has done nothing, except be hardworking and professional, and that rubs the lazy and entitled the wrong way. I applaud Harry for being rightfully pissed off at the lot of them. Thank goodness for the Queen and Charles granting them their own household and communications staff. KP is run by a bunch of mealy mouth amateurs, who continue to make juvenile moves.

I went through Houghton Hall IG last. Can’t imagine Rose risking all of that to be William’s mistress. Whatever is going on, I doubt she’s the other woman, but somebody in the crew is.

    • Enn says:

I don’t see this as proof at all. I think it’s the press playing to a snobbish and racist audience, knowing what will garner website hits and drive ad revenue.

Trust me, potential advertisers want to see your media kit with a detailed breakdown of web stats. Clicks, bounce rates, channels, page duration, demographics.

      • Maria says:

I don’t see this as being particularly racist. Remember the days of Sarah of York? Everyone was mad about the vivacious redhead who was a breath of fresh air. But very soon, she was called “Duchess Doolittle, Duchess of Pork, Duchess of Yuk”. She was even blamed for influencing the demure Diana. And she had known Andrew all her life, her father was Charles Polo Manager, and heck her mother was even rumoured to have had an affair with Prince Phillip. And she was English through and through, and white.

    • notasugarhere says:

Reads that way to me too, TheOriginalMia.

  22. Beatrice says:

While the press attacks against Meghan are disturbing, she and Harry have been tone deaf in a lot of areas, especially her outrageous spending on clothes, their costly new home, and insistence on bucking some of the royal “rules”. Harry’s “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets” has haunted the couple. I think he is so entitled as well as protective and supportive of her, that makes him incapable of helping her navigate tricky palace politics. Meghan’s work ethic and humanitarian interests are a positive to the Royal Family, but like it or not, when you join an organization, you need to understand the people and politics to move your agenda forward, not just expect things to change because of your rank. Many CEOs full of great ideas have been derailed because they didn’t correctly assess the tone of their organization and adjust (not abandon) their strategies to achieve their goals. That approach might be slower, but ultimately bring more success and greater change.

    • jules says:

      All good points!

    • Becks1 says:

But yesterday someone insisted that no one in Britain cared about what Meghan spent on clothes.

I do agree that I think Harry is not helping Meghan, although I’m sure he is trying.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Please say EXACTLY which rules Meghan is supposedly ignoring. Otherwise you’re just spewing the same garbage from the tabloids (which is already evident from how you’re ranting quite frankly).

    • Toot says:

It seems to only be an issue when Meghan and Harry get a new expensive house after marriage and clothes when all the working royals have. I wonder why? Also, what “rules” have they broken.

      • notasugarhere says:

Compared to what Anne, Andrew, Edward, Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Princess Alexandra, Duke of Kent have? A set of renovated apartments at Windsor isn’t outrageous.

      • ProfPlum says:

There was a photo of the other royals’ homes. Edward lives in a glorified castle. Frogmore Cottage is modest in comparison to what Anne, Edward, and Andrew have….

    • lanne says:

Good point about CEOs and assessing tone, but the problem here is that the complainers can always move the finish line. The “rules” she has broken have been “broken” by everyone else, including the Queen. (See Meghan in 1 shoulder dress=vulgar, Kate in a 1 shoulder dress =dazzling a few weeks later. Said by the same people). What specific rule has she broken? The RRs make fake claims about her (she’s a vegan, she’s banned Harry from friends/hunting/etc), and offer no retractions when proven fake. The only real price I saw on her baby shower (PAID FOR BY FRIENDS) was $350 macaron towers. A problem? really? The other numbers are conjecture. Same with her clothes. No other royal family member’s clothes/private jet trips/vacations have been parsed like Meghans. Her biggest crime is existing. Her second biggest crime is not being absolutely perfect while existing. Her third biggest crime is being exceptional. The roughest thing about being a WOC in my experience is not that you have to work twice as hard and be twice as good, but when you manage to achieve just that, you’re rewarded with hostility instead of respect.
      Why?
Because you threaten their status quo. Because they don’t even realize, due to implicit bias, that they hold any racial animus. Because racism to them means wearing hoods and burning crosses on lawns. Because they have the PRIVILEGE of never having to examine their own biases. Because they can find convenient excuses for their biases (it’s her disrespect! touching her stomach! smiling! wearing designer clothes!). Because deep down, they want to hold on to their biases. Or, more graciously, they are afraid of what their biases may reveal about themselves.

    • Mego says:

Other than spending the rest is hearsay. You are assuming the backlash came from Meghan’s actions when a smear campaign initiated by people threatened by her popularity *cough* Cambridge-Middleton *cough* is far more likely a reason. And even if she stumbled the racist and sexist smears are hardly deserved or justified.

    • windyriver says:

Beatrice, despite your impressive organizational points at the end, you’ve overlooked a key factor – this organization has more than one agenda.

“Meghan’s work ethic and humanitarian interests are a positive to the Royal Family…” Uh, no. Work is what the RF are supposed to do. Charles is possibly the most productive POW in history. As has been said here before, the outlier is Will; he made it clear early on he wasn’t going to carry the same load as other family members, and hasn’t. Harry was on this same train, but along the way discovered issues he was passionate about, and chose a wife accordingly. How much work Harry ultimately does remains to be seen, but he’s changed course.

My take is, H&M have read the room, as you suggest, and are aligned with the agenda of the current power players in the organization, HM and Charles. Their actions with respect to appointments/patronages, the separated households, etc., indicate H&M must be doing something right. And it’s clear from the recent increases in appearances for Will and especially Kate, and her sudden flurry of repeat clothes, that something has shifted behind the scenes.

But Will’s been around for a while now; the press and some palace staff have gotten used to his normal of not doing much, plus, he’s the next in line. Maybe the Cambridge camp is responsible for Meghan’s negative press, maybe not. But let’s not pretend Meghan spends more on clothes than Kate, or for that matter Charles; or that the renovations to Frogmore to turn it from separate offices into a residence cost more than what Will and Kate spent on renovations to their KP apartment and Amner Hall.

I’ve left out Meghan’s background as a WOC, because I don’t believe it’s the only, or even necessarily the main thing, going on with respect to the internal workings of the RF (though it clearly is a factor for the press). But that, and her status as an American and former actress, etc. are probably yet another agenda for some people behind the scenes.

    • MA says:

Nope, Meghan hasn’t actually broken any rules. That’s the media narrative and it appears that some have unfortunately bought into their attempts to “other” Meghan, while others are being willfully obtuse. She’s toed the line on every single thing, outworked every other royal spouse prior to becoming a royal, shown up to engagements happy, informed, briefed, gone on 3 international tours before a year in. She’s outperformed expectations by every measure.

The fact that some people can’t seem to grasp is that people of color, especially black people, are held to a different standard in western society. See Barack’s tan suits and Michelle’s sleeveless dresses being painted as scandalous. We’ve seen the same thing with Meghan’s nail polish, one-shoulder, above the knee dresses–things that every single royal including the Queen have done countless times. See also Raheem Sterling’s spending being criticized while his white footballers are given a pass. We’ve seen this from the fact that the Queen, the heir, the heir’s heir, even royals less senior to the Sussexes all live incredibly lavish lives funded at taxpayer’s expense. Huge estates, palaces, private transport, clothing, jewels, untouched assets, staff, servants, etc. Yet somehow Meghan’s painted as the spendthrift in the ROYAL family?

Either call them all out or call none of them out. The Royal Family is an archaic, problematic institution in itself and there’s plenty of valid criticism for the entire construct of royalty existing in 2019. But don’t pretend that Meghan’s the one deviating from the norm. And it’s not a good look to single out the single non-white person who partakes in a very tiny chunk of it.

  23. Janey says:

this is so disrespectful, they should be ashamed of themselves. I’m ashamed of them.

  24. Frida_K says:

“Los perros ladran, la caravana pasa” is an Arabic proverb that means in English, “The dogs bark, the caravan passes.”

What stupid barkings this time, my God. Churlish and petty and designed to shame. Well, too bad for them that the shame resounds to their way, rather than toward their target.

She will pass along, moving forward, and they will remain in the dust behind her.

    • osito says:

      1) Excellent comment. The proverb gave me tingles in English and Spanish.

      2) I hope this is exactly what happens. Even more outward support from close friends would be too much at this point, though a denial to this that was just as strong to the denial of Kate attempting to Marquise de Merteuil the Marchioness would be at least fair play. Megan doesn’t need it though. Just letting her live means that she’s able to write cookbooks, and show love to people society pushes to the fringes; she can keep owning foreign tours, and being a self-care inspiration; maybe she can even get her makeup situation all the way together (she’s totally gorgeous, and I appreciate her embracing her darker skin tones instead of attempting to pink up, but we can only say that flash photography was catching her off her game so many times). People will eventually tire of bashing her if she continues to simply do good work. And if they don’t, she’ll still have lived a rich and full life that she should be able to be content with at the end of it. I hope she’s allowed that and that she allows it of herself. It’s honestly refreshing that she keeps it quiet while we live in a society of public “beefs” and hysterics over total BS (politically, entertainment-wise, and socially). She’s my new “I said what I said” icon because she really only says things once, and then does her work.

  25. Beli says:

Just imagine the press writing an article like this about Kate when she was 8 months pregnant.

First, they wouldn’t dare in the first place. Second, they would have received a HUGE torrent of backlash for abusing a heavily pregnant woman who can’t speak in her own defence.

I’d ask why a different standard is being applied and why it’s open season on Meghan, but we know why.

    • Toot says:

Exactly. They don’t care about possibly stressing out very pregnant Meghan, and that makes all these royal reporters that continue their crap straight evil.

  26. Millenial says:

The timing on this is kinda weird and makes it feel a bit tit-for-tat. As in, camp Cambridge felt the Rose story came from camp Sussex and released this story to get back at Meghan.

    • Beach Dreams says:

To me it’s less tit-for-tat and more of the same throwing under the bus, perhaps with a a more desperate tone given the past two days. Harry and Meghan don’t even hang out with the Norfolk set so I don’t know why Kay and some segments of the fandom are pushing that conspiracy theory.

And there HAS been a hint of desperation/panic about all this. Tom Sykes wrote a piece that raised an excellent point: why threaten to sue over a vague story about a housewives’ spat and not the multitude of detailed stories about feuds with your new sister-in-law? Of course, he noted that KP didn’t respond when asked that question.

      • mynameispearl says:

presumably though if this was in the print edition of tatler then it was written a few weeks ago? So not a total tit for tat?

      • Beach Dreams says:

@mynameispearl: apparently this story will be set to be in the May issue of Tatler.

      • MsIam says:

@mynameispearl If this was for the May edition of Tatler, wouldn’t it come out sometime in April close to when Baby Sussex is born? So instead of good press about the baby, you would get this nasty story thrown in? Maybe they moved up the release of the online edition to counteract the Will/Rose/Kate story, who knows? Man, these people are a pit of vipers. I wonder how Harry feels about his family now? People always say the White Markles are the problem but I couldn’t move far enough away from this bunch if I were mm or ph.

      • mynameispearl says:

The May edition is due out on Monday April 1st, it usually hits newsstands a few days before the end of the month. I mean, I think its a ridiculous article, but its obvious someone has been writing it for a while, and its in the latest edition (I dotn know the magazines get labelled as the month ahead). That turnip sh1te came out at the weekend, so I dont think those 2 particular stories are linked. Both are absolutely stupid nonsense.

      • V says:

Yes,mags hit newsstands a month in advance. It’s why I’ve also commented that it has been ready for a while and there’s nothing strange in the timing.

This is the Daily Fail and the Tatler. Like, am I really expected to believe that they are paying real-live sources all of a sudden? It’s pure drivel, at the best of times. “Reports” from either of these outlets aren’t news…they aren’t even gossip…it’s fiction & click-bait.
I’m old enough to remember that this b.s. is being taken straight from the Diana & Fergie songbook.
For me, at this point, it is annoying.

    • Erinn says:

I honestly agree. I think a lot of people are happy to assume there’s more to it than that… but I really don’t think the couples are the ones leaking.

    • Becks1 says:

I just read the tattler article because a few other comments indicated that it was well-balanced and interesting, and it was basically just a rehashing of every bad story about Meghan that has been leaked over the past year, with a few lines at the end about how Meghan’s new life is tricky (I guess its meant to be sympathetic to her at that point?)

But after paragraphs rehashing every.single.negative.thing that has been said about her….yeah, it wasn’t even new gossip.

  30. Tangie says:

    Interesting tweets here https://mobile.twitter.com/janemerrick23/status/1110487339120373760
    https://twitter.com/janemerrick23/status/1110493081294589954?s=20
Including some verified account saying there is an affair but he deleted his tweet.

    • Yami says:

Yep. The missing tweet is by Giles Coren, of Supersizers fame and a writer apparently. He wrote, and I quote from a screenshot, ” yes. It is an affair. I haven’t read the piece but I know about the affair. everyone knows about the affair, darling. even jews (although admittedly i am quite a posh jew-if such a thing exists.” Frankly, I am agog! But maybe not surprised. I feel like if you cater to a man always, he takes that for granted and that might of been Kate’s misstep?

      • MA says:

Thanks Yami, that was the tweet I was talking about.

Can’t say though that Kate (or any spouse in a similar situation, for that matter) could’ve done anything to MAKE William cheat. I’m sure they had an arrangement and I can understand if people don’t feel sorry for her because she went into this eyes wide open. But William being self-centered and entitled and making terrible choices is 100% on him.

      • Tina says:

God bless you, Yami, for saying that Giles Coren is a writer “apparently.” There is nothing crueler you could have said, and I salute you for it. On the one hand, Giles is full of it, at all times and in all respects. But on the other hand, he’s said some truly vile things on twitter and not deleted his tweets, so maybe this has some truth to it.

Giles Coren’s sister is Victoria Coren Mitchell, who’s lovely, and married to David Mitchell of Peep Show fame. Giles’s wife’s sister is Hannah Snow, who is married to Alexander Armstrong of Pointless etc. Giles is very well connected, even if he is a complete arse.

    • Beach Dreams says:

I do wonder if Giles was serious or if he was sh*t-stirring. Just the way he said it made me hesitant. But the tweet that DID heighten my suspicions was the one by Sophia Money-Coutts, the Telegraph writer. She flat out said that she couldn’t say more on the story: https://mobile.twitter.com/sophiamcoutts/status/1110489411731550208

      • Yami says:

I don’t know, but is he’s just taking the piss why bother to delete it? I suspect that’s something is going on and they are using DoS as a decoy, which is really base and low, especially if the Tattler editor has that close relationship with Kate as he’s reported to have. It won’t work in the long run. An affair is much juicier gossip over all and now the Cams moves and interactions will be scrutinized for any little signs of cracks. They’ve really put themselves inadvertently under a microscope. Which is maybe not what they wanted.

      • Beach Dreams says:

^^Oh, no doubt there IS something afoot. The cagey statements by these reporters is enough to show that. I’m not sure what else besides an affair could have them acting this way. And it’s all thanks to that foolish article by Kay that everyone is talking about it. You can bet that the Cambridges will make a show of being extra smiley (and maybe even giving an affectionate hand on the arm or back) in their next public appearance.

      • A says:

Interesting fact–Sophia Money-Coutts used to write (or does she still write) for the Tatler! Funny how the crowd is so small in these circles, huh.

      • MA says:

@Beach Dreams – My earlier comment didn’t post. I saw her tweets too. I think the reactions of these journalists who are NOT on the royal beat is really telling. They’ve either confirmed the rumors or clearly think something is up. And going by how the RRs/KP have reacted to this, I definitely think there’s SOMETHING going on though but it could be something else…
Gotta admit that I’m kind of girl-crushing on Lady Rose through her instagram. Her estate gorgeous and she seems active in hosting interesting events. The thing that makes me hesitate about these rumors is that she seems way too cool, cultured, tasteful for William.

      • Tina says:

SMC left Tatler a while ago. She sold a novel, The Plus One, which some people liked (I haven’t read it). She’s now freelance, writes for the Telegraph, the Times etc.

  38. Casey20 says:

It’s operation: Take the American down that has come in and done a better job of being a Duchess than the English Rose future Queen Consort. If you don’t believe this is about putting Meghan “in her place” and letting the future Queen Consort shine you are delusional. Why would the Queen go out with Kate after she has been 7 years on the job ..???, why is Kate grinning ear to ear on every outing, even when it’s inappropriate and why does Kate purposely change up clothes/ buy the same clothes to make it seems like it’s a repeat, why is Kate pictured standing in front of a microphone pretending she gave a speech and when research is done she is destroying words, speaking inaudible and with Zero confidence. Seems like the problem is with Kate. Make Kate step up to the plate. Don’t “try” and take away from Meghan if Kate’s the issue. Kate was hopeful Harry married someone that was beneath her but Harry surprised them all by marrying someone that Kate can’t compete with. So instead of rising to the challenge we have Operation “put Meghan in her place”

That was her second engagement with the queen, actually,if we exclude the visit at the BP exhibition after the wedding. During their second outing,Philip attended some events too,but he used to accompany her everywhere and he would have surely tagged along with her and Meghan.

So why, after 7 years does Kate accompany the Queen on this engagement…it makes zero sense to anyone who follows the RF. Even the Royal Reporters are baffled by this engagement.

      • MA says:

@Casey20 lolll exactly. The RRs sure got huffy they didn’t get any good photos out of it either.

  39. Bella Bella says:

I am not reading the post. I only clicked on it to write this: Can we stop already? Can we stop with the breathless reporting of every bit of nonsense the British press is doling out? It’s unseemly at this point. I look at the headlines on both these Megan posts and I think, “Really? Are we doing this yet again??”

    Please stop.

    • JadedBrit says:

@Bella Bella If only it *would* stop, yes. But they’re going after a woman approaching her due date in order to – what? Cover up bad behaviour and shady doings? Protect the “in” crowd? Calling out the baiting of a pregnant woman, who dares to be a WOC, must be done again and again and again; this heinous, despicable behaviour can’t be allowed to slide. This is not the society we should be, or want to be. This is not the world we want to bequeath to the next generation, the Sussex Babyship included. Because do not think for a moment that they won’t go after the innocent child, when they have treated its mother so disgracefully – the edition of Tatler is due to be released at much the same time as the child’s birth. This is a clear cut case of #TimesUp, and it needs to be brought to an end NOW. It should’ve been brought to an end during Diana’s day: she recalled a paparazzo, in response to a shaken utterance of hers that he would ‘film her if she were dying’, say that he most certainly would be at the front of the line.
      Enough. Just – enough.

      • Erinn says:

“But they’re going after a woman approaching her due date in order to – what? ”

Make money. I think it’s literally that simple when it comes to this kind of gossip. If people are happy, they’ll comment and drive clicks. But if they’re outraged they’ll comment even more, and get even more clicks.

      • MA says:

        +1 Jadedbrit

      • Bella Bella says:

@Erinn, Agree. It’s ALL about making money!! Television and print and digital media ultimately are nothing except being about advertising. The more clicks, the more people see the ads on a page. I’m asking Celebitchy to stop feeding the fire.

      • JustSayin' says:

If only it WERE all about money.
Some of it is, but definitely not all. Some…a lot….of it is about sending a message, a repeated message. I believe it’s called propaganda. Remember, propaganda isn’t always obvious, in fact, it is insidious most of the time. So subtle most can’t even see it when it is in front of their face.

    • notasugarhere says:

Bella bella, you are welcome not to read here. By clicking on this post and commenting, you’re only increasing the numbers of people on a post you claim to be against.

      • notasugarhere says:

It strikes me as ridiculous to come to a gossip site and comment, adding clicks and revenue to the site, while complaining about people coming on here to royal stories and commenting.

Kaiser gets to run their site however they want, be it no royal stories or a dozen a day. By clicking and commenting on royal posts, you’re only increasing the number of royal stories CB will post.

    • Nic919 says:

I think we should never stop commenting when the articles being written are a non stop attempt to attack a woman who is doing her job as the other royals (except an obvious few) have done but has the misfortune of not being a pure English Rose.

    • MsIam says:

Do you also go to the Tatler and DM websites to say “please stop feeding the fire”?

  40. SJR says:

But the BRF have always had the DRAMA going on. It sells papers.
Really, if the BRF actually just went about doing their charity work would they still be as popular? The monarchy is completely outdated in every way.
If not for the soap opera, publicity, paps, hanging with actors, tourist attraction business, etc. would they even exist any longer?
Once Liz and Phil are gone….how long can the BRF carry on, unless they become celebs?
Their “brand” is a Dodo bird.
All the tabs making up stories is part of the deal in being BRF. Anyone involved is fair game.

  41. V says:

That Tatler piece has nothing to do with the other two, their feuds and whatever silly gossip is going on. This article is going to be published in their May issue for their anniversary. They’ve already published online the cover as well. These mags covers are usually unveiled a month in advance.
And obviously it wasn’t written yesterday.vEven if it’s clearly filtered by a shady agenda,it’s evidently a collection of a series of anecdotes and quotes (and recycled gossip) that can’t be possibly fabricated by the authour because he had the urgency to deflect attention..
Excluding the part where he quotes anonymous sources in relation to her actress background,it’s really about people close to the circle where they ALL move, including Harry.. And that’s the point. It goes from “sources close to Charles”,aides, courtiers to HARRY’s friends.
This thing that the Cambridges are ordering smear campaigns every day and that everyone is a mouthpiece acting for them is getting ridiculous. Is it shady and petty?Yes. But this is actually an insightful piece about their social circles’ dynamics.
I don’t know why people think that BP’s staff acts so differently, when a lot of the pre-wedding stories, whether true or not, obviously came from BP’s and CH’s aides, likes the one about breaking this alleged “hat protocol” during her engagement with the queen. In that case the source was clearly the queen’s dresser.
I really doubt KP’s staff members are being told by William to call her “Me-gain”,and I really doubt they are all lazy and can’t keep up with this alleged American incredible “work ethic”,when nothing Harry has done in the past and nothing they have done until now says that they were willing to “work” six days a week, but the lazy KP aides have told them”no!”.. We’re literally talking about people that most of the time have appeared publicly once in ten days/two weeks.
As the Tatler piece says, courtiers are more royalist than the queen, and they all thrive in petty gossip, with no exception.
Also,I don’t see any difference between Meghan being called “Me-gain” and Kate and Pippa being called “Wisteria sisters” in some aristo circles, and I have no doubt, even worse among courtiers as well. It’s all about them being perceived as “outsiders”. Social climbers,scheming,calculating,self-centered.

    • Tina says:

I subscribe to Tatler and am looking at the May issue right now (Joan Collins is on the cover, because Tatler is nothing if not relevant). The tone of the article is snide, dismissive. (For once, the DM has reported something accurately). I’ll give you an example, from Gina Nelthorpe Cowne, a ‘former agent’ of Meghan’s: “The two worked closely together, and warmly, until September 2016 when ‘there was a big change. She did give me a difficult time.’ Meghan snapped at a young reporter: she complained about being asked to move seats in a first class lounge to ‘make way for a group of male Colombian dignitaries.'” I’ll tell you what, if I was in a first class lounge and someone asked me to make way for a group of male dignitaries of any kind, I’d tell them to f— off, and I’m no one of any importance whatsoever.

The article is actually poisonous: in rapid succession, it provides various “rumours,” such as William hating being “ticked off” about Meghan, Harry hating being advised “against rushing into marriage,” the tiara “already promised to Princess Eugenie for her wedding,” H&M “queue-barged their way into the first Windsor wedding of 2018”, the Queen vetoing “Meghan’s plans for a sleeveless wedding dress,” Meghan being pregnant on their wedding day (“‘that’s why the dress was so baggy,’ one young woman assured me”) and “theirs is an IVF baby.” All of which they don’t even really bother to debunk by saying, “it’s rumours like that…that are making their lives such a misery.”

And this is the best (worst) quote for me: “Her father, Thomas, also didn’t cover himself in glory but… Why didn’t the palace take him in hand? Why wasn’t he showered with affection and inclusivity?” Oh gee David, why don’t you take a wild guess. Sometimes I really hate the press in this country.

      • MA says:

Thanks for reading it so I didn’t have to. Absolutely disgusting and hateful. What is wrong with people?

      • Princessk says:

But it’s all rehashed nonsense, mostly stupid stories we know being cobbled together yet again. That Gina woman is like Piers Morgan, they can’t get over the fact that they were not kept in the Meghan loop after her engagement, and rightfully so because they have proved themselves to be vindictive and revengeful.

  42. Casey20 says:

Anyone that tries to convince those of us that followed the BRF for years that Meghan is getting the same treatment as Kate did is simply telling a lie….period!

    • notasugarhere says:

There are a whole lot of new royal watchers who showed up ONLY to hate on Meghan. They have no knowledge of anything related to royalty, the Diana vs. Fergie feud, any of it.

  43. Weaver says:

For White Royal staffers who are unaccustomed (and unwilling) to taking orders from person of color every request will seem “demanding”. This is why I take with a grain of salt any report claiming Meghan is somehow terrorizing staff when there’s no prior record of her ever being difficult or demanding. If you don’t want to work for someone everything they do or say will seem offensive demanding no matter how nice that person is.

I hope Meghan and Harry got a whole new staff for Frogmore.

    • Casey20 says:

Don’t forget the bow and curtsying to DoS… that probably drives several of them mad!!

    • MA says:

Agreed, look no further than how Dickie Arbiter initially handled the news of Harry and Meghan dating and his latest petty attacks.

  44. aquarius64 says:

And speculation still grows. Throwing Meghan under the bus is only put people on the hunt for a scandal. A sex scandal sells especially if it’s history repeating itself. If this is a deflection story it’s the Turnip Toffs protecting one of their own Rose. Future queen regardless Kate comes from coal mining stock in their eyes.

  45. Dizzy says:

I lived in England for 2 years and it’s kind of horrible. None of this is surprising. Class system, snobbery ….

  46. HeyThere! says:

They better not actually call her that?! Don’t make me fly over there!!!! Figure out who is and fire them alllllllllllllllllll.

  47. Katherine says:

This coming from someone who actually really liked Meghan when she was an actress on Suits – she does seem to have wanted the class upgrade that came with marrying a prince. I was shocked she’d give up a successful enough TV career for the royal life but she now appears in a different light to me, like someone who has actually wanted all the celebrity that comes with this… Well, at least this is what she wanted. I would’ve taken the career but oh well, her life, she looks happy enough

    • Lanne says:

Ever heard of a crazy little thing called love?

    • Casey20 says:

Now Katherine be honest…. you would have rejected the advances of a Prince of England to stay on a show that would be cancelled within the next year or so…. I don’t believe it for a second.

  48. Anna says:

What do you want to bet Kate’s “turnip toff” rival Rose said something in support of Duchess Meghan, and that’s what prompted Kate to attempt to “phase” her out. And btw, I COMPLETELY believe that Kate had a mind to do JUST that, until she was inconveniently exposed, by her own bumbling husband at that. What morons.

  49. guest says:

What a stupid nickname. I mean I’d be p!ssed if that’s the best they could do.

  50. Ms. says:

What I’m taking away from this is people and press LOVE to hate on commoners who marry into the Royal family. I don’t know if it’s unconscious bias or what, but it’s nauseating and tired.
