Wow, I just spent way too much time looking at old photos of Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian. Remember them? They were famously married for only 72 days. My take has remained the same from the beginning until now: Kim was turning 30 and she was in a panic, so she pretty much married the first guy she saw. She liked Kris Humphries okay, but she rushed the whole thing because of her milestone birthday and it was only after the wedding that she realized how dumb she had been. It wasn’t fraud, and it wasn’t all faked for the cameras. Tons of people get married for the wrong reasons, and that’s what happened here. Well, Kris Humphries is officially retiring from the NBA now and he decided to write about his experience as a player, how he saw his career and yes, he address all of the Kardashian stuff – you can read the full Players Tribune piece here. The irony of my career is that I finally figured out what kind of player I was when I got to the Nets. I was going to try to grab 10 boards a game and shut up. I wasn’t The Guy. I was a grinder. I felt like I knew who I was, finally. And then I met a girl who happened to be really famous, and I got married, and.…. Damn.
Look, I should have known what I was getting into. I was definitely naive about how much my life was going to change. But the one thing that really bothers me is whenever people say that my marriage was fake. There’s definitely a lot about that world that is not entirely real. But our actual relationship was 100% real. When it was clear that it wasn’t working … what can I say? It sucked. It’s never easy to go through the embarrassment of something like that — with your friends, with your family…. But when it plays out so publicly, in front of the world, it’s a whole other level. It was brutal.
I didn’t know how to handle it, because I never thought I was going to be famous in that way. I remember having this moment when I was getting booed so hard in Philly, and I thought to myself, “Why exactly are they booing me, though? Is it just because I’m That Guy from TV? Do they think I was trying to be famous? Is it because they think I disrespected the game of basketball?”
The last one killed me, because all I’ve ever wanted to be known for was basketball.
At the end of the day, I think a lot of us probably will remember Kris Humphries as “that guy who married Kim Kardashian before she married Kanye.” I think what he says is true – their relationship was real, and there were so many real red flags about how they should never get married. But he just kept bumbling along, perhaps truly believing that Kim would give everything up to be his basketball wife (lol). Anyway, there was no real harm done in the grand scheme of things. He kept working, he kept playing and so be it.

See, I’ve got a soft spot for him. I’ve actually met him, as well as his parents. They were all sweet.
We didn’t talk about who he was. We were just hanging out in our boats on Lake Minnetonka on a gorgeous summer day.
I do think he should’ve known better than to get caught up 8n that family.
Kim was very ungenunie in that relationship and that’s why she had such backlash. She married him and they never moved in together and set up a home rather she was in NY with her sister and then the relationship dissolved on their TV show. Kris wanted a wife and Kim though she wanted a baller like Khloe but realized after they married she could have international fame fashion with Kanye vs being with Kris. A lot of what happens to these sisters is due to their competitive nature, and hence Khloe has to have a baller even though he cheats, Kim has been married 3 times, Kourtney is passive aggressive doesn’t want to really be in this realm but puts up with it, (Kim to Kourtney “I bought you a career”. I actually like KH on the show and he was great with how he handled Khloe. I wish him well and better luck in his relationships in the future.
I watched some of that season. So much bullshit contrived from the mind of the mother of the bride. Humphries is living in the same world where Kylie claims she is self made. I think they have a different definition of the truth and what’s a good storyline. Such egomaniacs. Darn you Ray J….
Maybe it was a 100% real for him, kause for Kim was just a plot to get her wedding special. Khloe just had hers and it was so obvious Kim was jealous…they needed someone stupid enough to play the part and he was the one, he even had a name with a K! It was klear it wouldn’t last.
He may be all up in his feels now that some time has passed. He has been very critical of the farcical marriage, and Kim’s filing for divorce after 72 days. The trip they took, when he and PMK planned the engagement, all so blatantly scripted. These people are all imbecilic and don’t appear to know fact from fantasy anymore. *When Khloe married Lamar, Kim actually stated she couldn’t date a baller because she was so short* Next season, Humphries comes dribbling in. They’re a mess!
What makes him such a Tool? They were ill-suited perhaps but with the exception of his childish behavior immediately post separation and divorce,, I did not find him as grotesque as nealry half of all Americans do.
Clearly, he did love KK and it was obvious he did not handle the break up well.
IIRC he was a tool to her when they were together. He would tease her in an almost mean-spirited way and he didn’t get along with her family (I mean, neither would I, but I would at least fake it). I know he was edited to seem worse but even without the edits he was pretty crappy about her career, her interests, her family, her home, and basically anything she wanted. I have noooo clue how either of them didn’t see how ill-suited for each other they were.

I hate to have to say this, but if you didn’t watch the season where he was prominently featured, you won’t understand. Dude was manipulative, misogynistic, and danced around being emotionally abusive. I was in an abusive relationship for a very long time and many things that he said/did were identical to how my ex treated me before the hitting started. So yeah, Kim is trash, but so is he. But for different reasons.

Yeah I am sure Kim wasn’t so nice to him either. She wouldn’t even let him move in with her after they got married ! The show is edited in Kim’s favor. Kim and her mom even “re-shot” scenes after she separated from him just to make HER look better.
Editing does amazing things that’s why it’s a Oscar category. It was discussed on numerous reality television shows about how someone became the villain when they were actually a nice person. One example was Lex from Survivor Africa, the contestants later discussed what a great guy he was and how the editing process made him into a bad guy pitted against the nice guy Ethan. It’s all creative BS..that’s why the only reality show I watch is the Canadian version of Amazing Race.
If I recall they were already done with him and in full damage control mode so that season was carefully edited to make him look as bad as possible to minimize the blowback. She was the star of the stable at the time and many fans felt like the whole wedding was a cash grab.
Who knew we’d look back now and consider that the age of innocence 😂😂😂

For what it’s worth, I went to college near where Humphries grew up and socialized with people who were friends w/ his sister. They did mention that KH actually did care about Kim and that he was thrown for a loop by how it all ended. I wouldn’t be surprised, Kim is nuts.
Yes, I’ve met him & his family & they’re nice people. My youngest sister attended the same university as his sister (for 2 years) so she knows her. She was the one who spotted the family when we were all out in the lake that day.
He should’ve stayed far away from that family though!
He was traded here to Boston right after the marriage, through all the divorce drama. He threw himself into doing lots and lots and lots of charity work. At every game, there was new video of him popping up at some hospital or school or kids sports program. I never heard a bad word about him. I do remember how it was put out that he was denying her a divorce but I recall someone asked him about that in an interview, as she was getting closer to her due date with North, and he responded that he had returned the paperwork months earlier, she was the one who hadn’t signed it.
I remember watching that season and HATING him. He was so vile and rude to Kim and her family. She may not be an A+ person herself, but they’re both better off now. He truly believed she was going to drop her ‘brand’ or ‘career’ to devote herself to being Kris Humphrie’s wife and she believed it would be a fairytale romance. He would throw it in her face how Khloe dropped everything to be her husband’s doormat and Kim should too. I remember an episode where he told her that she needed to leave LA and just focus on being his wife because “in 5 years no one will probably even care about you anymore”.
Lol… sadly, he was wrong.
For everyone who keeps saying “Kris was so rude and manipulative on the show” please do not believe in the bogus way he was portrayed on KUWTK. We all know how reality TV works. Half the stuff on the Bachelor is engineered by the producers as they ply the contestants with alcohol. If you’ve ever read any of the stuff on Reality Steve you’d see how the producers manufacture the drama each season. Kris and Kim’s relationship may have been real but if reality tv producers want to make you a villain, they will give you a horrible edit to make you look bad so viewers naturally hate you. It’s reality TV 101. Now it is possible Kris is a horrible person in real life. But I will not trust the Kardashians’ spin nor will I ever. We all saw what they tried to do to Jordyn Woods, make her the fall guy for Khloe’s broken relationship with Tristan. They did the same thing to Kris.

Yes, the show is soft SCRIPTED. They have an outline they go by and do reshoots if a scene doesn’t go well. They’ll even order dinner multiple times to get the take right.
Don’t judge Kris on the script they wrote for him.

I believe it was real for him, and I 100% believe it was only a plotline for her…they did spin him to be the villain but I can’t believe people still think this is real life when it is being filmed for the show. The proposal was done a couple times….the girls who did selfies with the towels in The bathroom were hired. It came up later that Kim was in the hotel..was in her room when that was being filmed.

I believe it was real. I think they never real adult convos about their marriage. He was looking for a SATW who cooked & cleaned. He was old fashioned & she thought she could change him.
