Tucker Carlson: If feminists had absolute power, every man would be Chris Hayes

I’m sure our international readers won’t care about this, but I love Chris Hayes, the baby-faced geeky heartthrob who has the 8 pm MSNBC news block. Hayes has a background in political work and community organizing. He’s married to a lawyer and they have three young children. He understands, on a deep level, that there are things he cannot speak to as a white dude, and he often brings in white women, women of color, and people from marginalized communities and gives them a platform to speak and answer his well-meaning questions. I’ve never said Hayes is perfect – he’s always given far too much air time to Bernie Sanders – but he’s a good guy and a good news person and I believe in him. Basically, he’s the complete opposite of Tucker Carlson. Tucker is a douchebag misogynist who hates women, poor people, minorities, immigrants and more. He is the white bread face of white supremacy and even neo-Nazis endorse his Fox News show. Well, Tucker has some thoughts about Chris Hayes. Garbage thoughts.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson began his highly rated primetime show Monday night by taking potshots at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and MSNBC host Chris Hayes, labeling the progressive lawmaker a “moron” while mocking his cable news competitor’s masculinity.

Last week, Hayes hosted an MSNBC town hall event on the proposed Green New Deal, featuring Ocasio-Cortez. During the Friday night town hall, Ocasio-Cortez lectured an audience member who called former Rep. Bob Inglis (R-SC) a “moron” for saying the Green New Deal is “literally impossible,” exclaiming “that’s unacceptable” while pointing her finger at the offender.

Carlson, meanwhile, had no problems throwing out insults Monday evening during Tucker Carlson Tonight.

“Chris Hayes is what every man would be if feminists ever achieved absolute power in this country: apologetic, bespectacled, and deeply, deeply concerned about global warming and the patriarchal systems that cause it,” Carlson said of the All In host.

[From The Daily Beast]

Carlson then verbally abused AOC for a while, calling her “a moron and nasty and more self-righteous than any televangelist who ever preached a sermon on cable access. She’s not impressive, she’s awful.” Because he’s self-aware. As for this whole idea that “real men” should be appalled by Chris Hayes’ humanity, his interest in speaking to women as equals, his interest in the environment and progressive politics… well, if Tucker Carlson is what “real men” are, I want no part of any of that. Give me men like Chris Hayes every day.

I’d take a thousand Chris Hayes any day over one Tucker Carlson.

And yes, if feminists had their way, more men WOULD be like Chris Hayes – they would listen, they would recognize their privilege, and they would use their position and platform to give a voice to women and minorities. How shocking is that??

    • Bryn says:

I love how he says absolute power like that’s what us ladies have been after. Feminists are asking to be treated equal and not be harassed or assualted and he says absolute power”

    • Erinn says:

Chris Hayes IS a real man. He’s not some showboating, pathetic, angry asshole who’s feeling threatened by any sort of change that doesn’t involve blowing smoke up his ass. I have never seen someone more fragile than the kind of guy who puts down people like Hayes while trying to promote their own brand of assholery as what a ‘real man’ is.

Like my god. I’m literally married to a plumber who spends his days on job sites – and I swear to god the majority of the people he’s working with are more progressive than this schmuck who prances around in a suit while yelling at the sky. There’s a trans woman carpenter and literally everyone has been incredibly respectful and have barely batted an eye once they’ve been re-introduced with this persons preferred name. THESE ARE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS WHO ARE MORE PROGRESSIVE. And they’re more of a man in every single way compared to the Tuckers of the world.

      • Kitten says:

“THESE ARE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS WHO ARE MORE PROGRESSIVE.”

        You’re in Canada, Erinn 🙂

      • Darla says:

        LOL @ Kitten. I was wondering…

      • Erinn says:

FIIIIINE Kitten, I guess that’s a big factor, but still, haha. They’re not out there cat-calling but they’re still usually pretty high in the hick-factor. It’s a small fishing community that’s also full of backwoods types haha. Education isn’t a huge priority for a lot of people, and there’s a big “hur hur f–k Trudeau” faction out here. Honestly, I think he’s also just working with a pretty decent group of guys which helps – because I know I have plenty of neck beards with weak wrists who are absolutely little shits in this office – because tech.

But I’m also really proud that I managed to find one who is just a damn delight of a human being haha. He was absolutely agonizing over having said “alright my dude” to the trans woman the other day. Who just laughed at him at the time – but this is something he’s said to ME before too so it’s a gender-neutral term of endearment from him. He was like “Sorry!” and the carpenter was like “No problem, my dude” right back, but he still felt bad about it.

      • Darla says:

Erinn, lucky you, I am happy to hear this! 🙂

      • Kitten says:

LOL that’s a cute story, Erinn. I too grew up in a small fishing community so I’m pretty familiar with the type you describe. I always love hearing stories about your guy. He definitely sounds like one of the good ones 🙂

    • whatWHAT? says:

and WTH is wrong with being “bespectacled”?…it’s now “un-manly” to wear glasses?

Carlson is such a waste of space and oxygen.

      • Cay says:

“Bespectacled.” Glad I’m not the only who laughed at that. Feminism cures eyesight problems! You’d think it would be the other way around since we feminists are always insisting people read books and stuff.

      • Juls says:

I have two sons in middle school and let me tell you, all the kids want thick-framed glasses, braces, the works. Stuff that was embarrassing when I was a kid is all the rage now. Go figure.

    • Megan says:

I read today that Rachel Maddow’s ratings have surpassed Carlson’s. That should really make his day.

    • CROWHOOD says:

My husband is the worst in so many ways. Kind of a perpetual teenager, not able to see dirty dishes, a little lazy. But there is this core to him that is truly and deeply concerned about equality. And he tries so hard to be an ally. In fact, one of my guilty pleasures was Pretty Little Liars. He actually suggested I stop watching it because “it’s the best case study on rape culture on tv”. Those are real men. Men who get it.

  2. Bryn says:

That guy is everything that’s wrong with the world lately, that attitude. He has no self awareness at all. What’s wrong with wanting to save the environment? Or wearing glasses for that matter? He literally added that to his list of complaints about Chris Hayes.

    • vrooom says:

Deeply enjoying the hypocrisy of Tucker insinuating that the evil feminists want to strip men of masculinity, as he himself desperately tries to strip other men of their masculinity. What a beastly, small-minded man.

You’ve got to wonder about the brain function of anyone who genuinely thinks this guy’s opinions are fit to be on a news channel.

    • otaku fairy says:

Exactly. What a tragedy it would be if more men- and people in general- were apologetic, concerned for the environment, and concerned about patriarchy.

  3. Darla says:

I am not a big fan of Hayes, but I do like a lot of the guests he brings on. (sidebar, isn’t it awesome that Ari has brought Eleanor Clift back , I love her!) And of course, Carlson is a repulsive specimen by any metric you come up with. Any metric!

    • Kitten says:

Aw really? I love his podcast “Why Is This Happening?” and I listen to the pod version of “All In” every morning when I run into work. Before I listened to “Why..” I really didn’t know anything about him–I actually thought he was on CNN–but after listening to several eps of his pod, I gained so much respect for him. He’s had some missteps but overall, I think he’s a genuinely good, caring guy.

  4. Beli says:

If it didn’t make me seriously fear for her safety, it would be hilarious how terrified these asswipes are of AOC.

    • Becks1 says:

It’s funny because it makes me like her more (I never disliked her, I was just never on the “AOC is the best thing ever” train) but seeing how much they attack her and how she handles those attacks….she’s a lot more mature about it than I could be, and it also just keeps making me think….”wow, they are really scared of her.”

  5. Incredulous says:

Tucker Carlson’s show, advertising-wise, now resembles Glenn Beck’s before cancellation. Tucker Carlson’s show is the most popular on Fox News. Rejoice in how much of a money pit Fox News is.

    • Megan says:

Carlson is Rupert Murdoch’s stooge whose only purpose is to keep feeding bullsh$t to Trump’s base.

  6. Joob says:

Feminists don’t WANT absolute power – that’s the difference. He’ll never understand.

  7. BlueSky says:

Methinks Chris Hayes is hitting a nerve?? He’s everything TC is not. And AOC is the new Faux News super villain. She must be doing something right if these white dudes seem so triggered.

  8. Lisa says:

Chris Hayes any day of the week.

  9. grabbyhands says:

Wow, Tucker is really angling for a White House job, isn’t he?

  10. Lightpurple says:

I swear these right-wing extremists are so obsessed with Ocasio-Cortez because they are all lusting for her.

Is Tucker indicating the size of his organ in that picture?

And didn’t he outgrow mocking people for wearing glasses in the 5th grade like other bullies do?

    • Jerusha says:

I think he’s saying, “If only my member were half this size I wouldn’t be the miserable dick that I am.”

    • Kitten says:

To your first statement, that’s my BF’s theory as well. They’re so confused because their wieners are saying “YES PLEASE” while their brains are screaming “socialist!” (or maybe it’s “feminist!”).

And that’s not at all to say that AOC is just a pretty face–she’s also incredibly strong, passionate, committed, and surprisingly powerful for a freshman congresswoman. She embodies everything that scares them: beautiful, liberal WOC with the brains, wit and determination to match. I love it. I love watching them attempt to troll her only to get burned in the most hilarious way.

      • Darla says:

I do agree with your bf, I have thought all along that their little pea brains cannot handle the conflict of being attracted to her.

      • Tourmaline says:

It is so interesting because she is one of the first extremely high profile woman Dem politicians of a ‘young’ age and who is also conventionally pretty…they can’t use their usual hateful she’s old, she’s ugly, tropes against her.

      • Kitten says:

Exactly, Tourmaline. They can’t mock her looks so they mock her style of speaking and her ideas. They can’t call her ugly so they call her dumb instead. Gah. I hate these people so damn much.

  11. Rapunzel says:

“If feminists had absolute power, no man would be Tucker Carlson” Fixed it for you, TC.

    • Busybody says:

      #BespectacledFeminists over bowtied dipshits.

Edited: Whoops! I thought Tucker Carlson was the one who wears bow ties, but he’s not in the picture above. Oh well, he’s still a dipshit.

      • Lightpurple says:

He used to wear bowties when he was on CNN. He was ultra-preppy, old money, elitism. That image doesn’t go over to well with his current audience.

  12. Mami says:

I thought Chris Hayes was a baby boy until I saw him *handle things* when the cops came after protesters in Ferguson. His wisdom and experience showed, and he kind of transformed before my eyes. I was like “Oh, heeeeyyyyy.” He’s smart and kind, and courageous. Sexy.

  13. Jerusha says:

That would certainly be an improvement over F**ker Carlson. More Chrises, please.

  14. asdfa says:

Yeah, I can’t argue with that. I’m a feminist and I would definitely rather have all men be like Chris Hayes than Tucker Carlson. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  15. Megs says:

Tucker reminds me of that reoccurring character on SNL weekend update, Guy who just bought a boat. Just a complete douche. Only that guy is a character and Tucker is real:/

    • FluffyPrincess says:

Hahahaha! That is such an apt description!

TC is such a complete, total, idiot on every single level ever. And he will never get over being literally burned to the ground by Jon Stewart on his own show about 10 years ago.

  16. Zan says:

I love how this fool is trying to get in a dig in (I guess?) on CH’s looks, but that it comes off as if feminists will force all men into wearing glasses. Hilarious!

  17. Valiantly Varnished says:

If feminists had absolute power every man would be Chris EVANS.

    • Lightpurple says:

The American one, not the British one. And my great aunt, who is 90, says you can’t have him, he’s hers.

    • Darla says:

TRUTH. And he doesnt wear spectacles. And he could crush Tucker with one hand. And his face looks like it was sculpted by hands with talent on loan from god! And he reads books. And he knows what the patriarchy is. And…I better not go on the heavy breathing is starting!

  18. Veronica S. says:

Men like Tucker Carlson can’t imagine a world where women have rights and don’t treat men as badly as they’ve treated women for millenia, that’s why. The powerful are always afraid of the tide turning.

But also, I’m cracking up because he thinks “bespectacled” is an emasculating description. OH MY GOD, HE WEARS PRESCRIPTION GLASSES! Real men would just suffer the blurry vision.

  19. Lala11_7 says:

If they both disappeared from the airwaves tomorrow…

    I wouldn’t even blink….

  20. Lightpurple says:

Some possible insight into this sexist fool. Carlson’s mother left her husband and kids when Tucker was six years old and moved to France for a “bohemian lifestyle.” So, we’re all to blame apparently.

  21. Caty Page says:

I think the new feminist agenda is to get a sexy Chris Hayes calendar. January could be Chris Hayes playing with cute kids, February could be him wearing his glasses and reading the paper, March could be him petting a cat….

    • Kitten says:

I’d be fine with every month being Chris petting a different cat LOL.

The pics here are cute though..didn’t know he was on IG.

  22. Tourmaline says:

TC is a toxic waste dump…this after he spotlighted on his show a few months ago that women in the workplace were causing the decline of men. Totally hateful extreme views that fuel misogyny and violence against women.

  23. Aang says:

In what upside down universe is Tucker Carlson even close to being manly?

  24. Dani says:

Out of all the people at Fox, I dislike Tucker the most however… as a New Yorker…I don’t like AOC at all. Not because of her age or her ethnicity or anything like that (I’m actually proud as a woman the same age as her that she got this far) but because of her views, her lack of experience in politics, and how out of touch she tends to be. Her Green New Deal is a joke and the laughing stock of politicians at the moment. It’s not sustainable or realistic. I wish she could be her own person and stop trying to follow other politicans. She could be so much better.

    • whatWHAT? says:

what views do you not like? and why would you say she’s “out of touch”? she’s more in touch with what the everyday person goes through than almost anyone else in congress right now.

as for her experience, I don’t see why that’s a reason to dislike her. so she’s inexperienced. she’s more knowledgeable than a LOT of the people in congress, she knows what the average American needs to get along in today’s society, AND she’s young and wants to learn. how is that a negative or a reason to dislike her?

      • Kitten says:

She’s more knowledgable than out effin POTUS FFS. I mean, I know that’s a low bar but….

    • Veronica S. says:

If the legislation was really such a “laughing stock,” there wouldn’t be so much effort put forth by industry professionals and propaganda networks like Fox News to undermine it. At the very least, it’s generating a conversation that’s long overdue to happen. Whether people like it or not, climate change is now a forefront issue for those who aren’t in denial.

      • Kitten says:

Yup. And if it was such a “laughing stock” you wouldn’t have so many other Democrats supporting it. You can think AOC is inexperienced, but you can’t say that about the objectively brilliant Ro Khanna or Ed Markey. Remember that the GND is also THEIR baby as well.

Also, the GND is a PROPOSAL, it’s not supposed to read like fleshed-out policy. I’m sure the GND will go through several revamps before it’s brought to Congress but no, it’s not going away.

  25. Franny says:

Tucker thinks being a flabby, insipid whiner means he is a “real man.”

Kind of the way Trump and his supporters think that yelling a lot and sending out rage tweets from the toilet at 4am everyday counts as leadership.

  26. Rogue_Economist says:

    And?

  27. CES says:

That pic of him holding his fingers out I’m only assuming he’s showing us the size of his winky d*ck

  28. insertpunhere says:

I know a lot of feminists, and the only thing I can see that is common in the men we’re attracted to (if we’re attracted to men) is that they respect women and be open to learning. It’s a very low bar, and yet the Tucker Carlsons of the world cannot seem to get over it.

Now I’m going to retreat to my fantasy world of Chris Hayes, Barack Obamas, John Legends, Wentworth Millers, and all the other men who don’t seem like assholes who hate women during interviews. They’re not perfect, but I’m okay with that because I realize people are complex and imperfect individuals, and I’m cool with helping someone learn as long as they’re not being dicks.

    • Darla says:

omg I love Wentworth Miller and still miss him in the arrowverse. What a beautiful man.

      • insertpunhere says:

I adore him, and I am right there with you. Even more than original Captain Cold though, I loved Citizen Cold from Earth-X, and I am so sad they’re not going to do any more with him and the Ray.

Yup. That’s my fantasy. It’s not even all straight men. Just men who seem like they don’t hate women. It’s not a great statement about the behavior of men in general, but given the number of men I’ve seen freak out about the me too movement, it’s apparently not an unreasonably low standard.

    • Kitten says:

That’s a good selection of men right there…

  29. Lilly (with the double-L) says:

Edit – removed snarky comment. 🙂 But, not because of any fondness.

  30. PixiePaperdoll says:

    H A Y E S does not spell ‘Hemsworth’ so I’m confused.

  31. Temperance says:

Tucker has the IQ of a tree stump, and the brainwash level of a Hamas teenager. He’s not quite functionally retarded.

  32. Christine ` says:

John Oliver made the funniest joke ever about Tucker Carlson: he’s the answer to the question ‘what if the sound THUD grew a face?’ Nothing has ever been so accurate!

  33. shocked and appalled says:

Tucker Carlson is not… a nice person. And his “insult” of Hayes is a huge compliment in my opinion. We should be lucky to have more men like Chris in the world.

Full disclosure: I know Chris and his wife Kate personally and we have some mutual friends. I haven’t seen them in several years, but spent regular time with them (and with Chris in particular) when we all lived in Washington, DC. Chris started doing guest appearances on MSNBC in this time period, before he got a show full-time. Very kind and thoughtful. Super intelligent and committed to social and economic justice. And Kate is just kickass. Clerked for Supreme Court Justice Stevens, worked in White House Counsel’s office under President Obama, is a constitutional and admin law professor, etc. Really Amazing.
