Donald Trump claims his dad was born in Germany & Trump can’t say ‘origins’

Trump Meets Stoltenberg of NATO

Many have argued – correctly, in my opinion – that Donald Trump decided to run for president because his racist Birther conspiracy was such a wild success. Even today, I’m sure there are so many ignorant, racist people who truly believe that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. Trump spent YEARS stoking those Birther conspiracies. He was practically the face of the Birther movement. While the purpose of it was to simply be racist and to otherize the first black president in America’s history, the actual “facts” of the conspiracy were always strange, especially when it comes to American citizenship – Obama’s mother was an American citizen, so his citizenship was never in question, even if his dad was a Kenyan national. The whole thing was such a bizarre and racist episode.

But what about Donald Trump? It’s always been known that Trump’s mother was a Scottish immigrant who only became a naturalized American citizen just a few years before Bigly was born. His father, Fred Trump, was born in New York, although Fred Trump’s parents were Bavarians who became naturalized Americans. All of this to say, Donald Trump comes from immigrant stock, and he’s first-generation on his mother’s side. We’ll leave his nativism, ignorance, racism and hateful policies and rhetoric about immigration aside for the moment, just to listen to him claim that his father was born in Germany:

So by Donald Trump’s account, his father was born in Germany (it would have been Bavaria at the time!) and his mother was Scottish and something something Barack Obama was born in Kenya. Keep in mind that people can actually prove that Fred Trump was born in New York. WTF is this?

But that’s not all… this moron was trying to spin a conspiracy about the Mueller Report but he can’t pronounce “origins.” THE ORANGES.

In addition to that mess, Trump continues to threaten to shut down the Southern border (except not) and he said Congress should “get rid of judges” and then admitted that shutting down the border would negatively affect the economy. This was all as he sat beside the NATO Secretary. My lord.

I loathe him with every fiber of my being. He has not one redeeming quality.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I used to as well. But I realized I was expending energy on sewage. He’s every negative word known to man…period. I wish the whole of our Earth would turn their backs to him and completely ignore his existence.

      • Sue Denim says:

Amen Mabs. Saw your comment yesterday and didn’t have time to respond, but I’ve come to the conclusion too that I’m saner and stronger when I focus on love, hope, options for positive change, not on the monsters who want to stoke our rage… I take comfort in history too — that battles for rights of all kinds have been fought and won, with power wrested from those who would continue to abuse…but alas…even the battles won must still be fought…and we have to stay focused to fight these battles well.

      • virginfangirls says:

I definitely see your point. But I also fear that if we ignore him it means we ignore his actions & don’t fight against his vile behaviors and it runs free, which is a very scary thought.

    • JANAK says:

He is an embarrassment and humiliation to Americans every. single. day.

  2. Diana says:

I cannot sit through another second of this asshat as president. Let’s work together and not give fuel to the rethugs by tearing down democratic candidates during the primaries. He is so embarrassing! I mean… I just got back from vacation in Costa Rica and got a lot of blank stares when I told people I was American. He’s such a disaster and seen as such by those with eyes. People pity us. Can we please end this nightmare please! Ugh!!!!

  3. minx says:

Apparently he has said this before…?

    • Elkie says:

I do also remember him saying this. Maybe last year? One tends to lose track amongst all the selling nuclear secrets to Saudi Arabia via WhatsApp and the baby concentration camps.

He also spent the first half of his career claiming that his family was Swedish. Which made sense that Fred would do it (Germans not being all that popular post WW2) but is just another stupid lie for the sake of lying from the barely-sentient mouldering pumpkin in chief.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Same, vague memory of this. And I guess he thinks it’s a plus in his favour – maybe with his neo-Nazi fan base? Or maybe because he thinks it gives him ‘cover’ for his actual work opposing NATO? Like, “Some of my best fathers were German.” ? What a tool.

      • ChillyWilly says:

100% has to do with impressing his Nazi base. I need to move to a blue state before Civil War II begins.

    • B n A fan says:

      Four other times. ^^

      • Kitten says:

        O_O
FOUR times? I remember when he said in 2018 when he was criticizing EU for doing business with Iran but what were the other times?

        Aye yi yi..

      • Christin says:

One of the morning cable shows had a compilation of several separate times he made this claim about his father. Last night, I kept thinking he just misspoke and meant “grandfather”. Nope, he’s said it several times.

    • pottymouth pup says:

when did he start admitting his family was from Germany? For ages he continued to lie to say his father’s family was from Sweden

      • hezzer19 says:

When he realized every Nazi in America was a member of his base.

      • Raina says:

He likes to say German because his Nazi followers like Hitler.
Plus, he’s stunningly stupid to a heart attack degree.

      • Sojaschnitzel says:

Hello from germany. I refuse to believe this BS, solely on the base that he seems to change the story every 5 minutes, and because we already had our fair share of internationally famous asshole over here. Although the last one was austrian, actually. Nevermind. Please, somebody else keep him and his lovely heritage <3

  4. Jerusha says:

Love the expression on Mr. Stoltenberg’s face – “You mfing moron! And I have to sit here next to you. WHY did I ever take this job?”

    • mycomment says:

not just the expression on his face; look at his body language. completely closed off.

    • Incredulous says:

In the first picture, Stoltenberg’s doing a medal-worthy job of not busting up laughing*.

*He should have just laughed his head off.

      • Jerusha says:

I wish all the heads of state of our (former)allies would write a book, “What We Really Think of donald trump.”

  5. Erinn says:

I just can’t comprehend if he’s genuinely in a mental health crisis, or if he just has so much fun telling lies that he keeps doing it. And that’s SO scary.

    • Becks1 says:

I think its a combination. I do think there is something cognitive going on (like, I don’t think he is all there mentally), I think he is a racist asshat, and I think he is one of those liars who doesn’t even think they’re lying, he just is so used to TALKING and saying whatever he wants, he never has had to think about whether he’s saying the truth or not. I think sometimes he is lying consciously, and I think sometimes he’s just like let me open my mouth and see what comes out.

I also think that in his current position, he is usually the dumbest person in the room, and I think he knows that and it grates at him. He makes up for it by just rambling. And I think his only priority is hurting Dems and people who didn’t vote for him (and helping himself and his businesses.) It all adds up to a giant clusterf*ck

      • mycomment says:

all of the above; and don’t forget to include lazy. he hates to read and prep materials have to be so dumbed down and shortened as to be useless. and he still has 40 percent approval..

    • Swack says:

Think he enjoys telling lies. Last night at the NRCC’s dinner he talked about how noise causes cancer and wind turbines make noise so wind power is not good. Also talked about how the republicans should be very skeptical of counting votes. Can’t wait for Chris Cilliza on CNN to tear apart his speech from last night.

      • BeanieBean says:

Noise causes cancer? Good gad, I agree with someone above. This guy is just so used to talking and lying he’ll saying anything with zero thought. Just as long as the money keeps coming his way.

      • holly hobby says:

Stephen Colbert said if that’s true, everyone would be dead in Holland by now. Chuck Grassley also said it was false.

    • Tiffany :) says:

He’s mentally unwell. This is from an event on Tuesday, per the Washington Post:

“We’re going into the war with some socialist. It looks like the only non, sort of, heavy socialist is being taken care of pretty well by the socialists, they got to him, our former vice president. I was going to call him, I don’t know him well, I was going to say ‘Welcome to the world Joe, you having a good time?’”

      https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/04/03/we-should-be-asking-if-trump-is-too-old-stand-re-election/?utm_term=.e6b7c0bed249

      • Kitten says:

JFC. That…WTF is he even trying to say there? O_O

      • Tiffany :) says:

It’s so troubling that he can’t put his thoughts together. Chilling.

      • StormsMama says:

        *shudders*
I had to read it twice
        But gasp
I do get what he’s trying to say

        Here’s my translation
        In his mind
        All his opponents are socialists
So he’s saying all the socialists are taking down Joe Biden
Who is a sort of socialist
and of course for trump it’s a war
        But he’s going to win
        Bc they are all socialists

        Ta-da!!
        And also DOH!

  6. RedWeatherTiger says:

Someone suggested that he lied about his father being born in Germany to connect with his Nazi-loving white nationalist followers, and I buy it. He could also be purposely confusing his father and grandfather, because no one who worships him gives a crap if he lies, especially if there’s a good dog whistle to his racist base involved.

I also buy into the idea that he has some increasingly severe cognitive impairments and should be promptly removed from office.

    • Deehunny says:

There is a documentary on Netflix called “The Alt Right” and it talks about Trumps connection and the rhetoric he uses to connect to his neo nazis, the antifa, and the fact that his father was arrested during a pro nazi rally.

    • Catarina says:

Trump’s grandfather WAS from Germany (Bavaria at the time) so he is not “lying” about being of half German descent as a way to connect w his Nazi base. His Grandfather immigrated to the U.S. from Germany and lied about being Swedish, but it was right after WW2 and the U.S. was anti-German, so his businesses would have (presumably) done poorly if people knew he was German. The weird part is not that his grandfather lied about being Swedish, for political reasons, but that Trump continued for decades to claim his *father* (who was born in NY) was the one born in Germany. I don’t think the lie was to connect to his Nazi fan base but more to pretend he was a first generation immigrant on both his maternal and paternal sides, to pretend he cared about immigrants from everywhere. But I don’t know. It’s so pathetic: with the rise of racism, xenophobia, islamophobia and anti Semitism, many countries—including the U.S., and most of Europe, including Russia—are adopting Hitler and the Nazis as their idols, forgetting so easily and quickly that their countries once fought a brutal, grotesquely savage war against these same people (the Nazis) who destroyed so many of their ancestors lives. How can they usher back in the symbol of it all: iconize Hitler and his adopted swastika and hatred of “non whites?” and “foreigners”?

  7. CATAYLOR says:

At least his hair looks good (*with scarcastic tone).

  8. Darla says:

I truly believe he is disintegrating mentally. Not that he started as any great shakes upstairs, but I think he is going down the same path as his father, and his dementia is growing all the time, likely exacerbated by stress.

We are in such a precarious situation that as bad as we know it is, I really believe that when the truth is finally told, we will realize we didn’t even begin to grasp just how dangerous of a situation we are in.

The republicans do nothing. Our security agencies do nothing. Mueller as far as I can tell, did nothing. If things really go south they will not be able to measure the amount of blood on their hands. All it takes is a touchy foreign policy emergency, a terrorist attack, or any unknown accelerant and the death toll will be unimaginable.

    • Louisa says:

Completely agree about the dangerous situation we are in. Between his mental health, the 25 members of his admin who should not have security clearances and the fact that anyone seems to be able to wander about Mara Lago and gain full access to the president, we are in deep trouble.

      • Elkie says:

Oh come now! Only 4-5 people were given clearances despite multiple major security concerns. The other twenty were merely capable of a little light treason.

      • Swack says:

The Mar-A-Lago thing was really troubling. How well trained are those people that they believe anyone and allow them in. The person wasn’t on the member list and they then thought may be the daughter of a member. Sorry, but there should have been the error on the side of caution and not allowed the woman in. What idiots.

@Elkie and apparently one was a custodian, so no biggie.

      • Louisa says:

Swack the Secret Service have said that they can’t stop anyone from entering the club and it’s up to the host – Trump – to determine who is allowed in. That is terrifying.

      • whatWHAT? says:

Elkie, props on the Arrested Development reference.

    • Kaye says:

I completely agree with you, Darla. It truly keeps me awake at night.

    • Aang says:

My next door neighbor is a clinical nueral psychologist and she has said from almost day one that she sees signs of cognitive impairment beyond age related cognitive decline. She also thinks he’s high during his speeches.

    • Kitten says:

“We are in such a precarious situation that as bad as we know it is, I really believe that when the truth is finally told, we will realize we didn’t even begin to grasp just how dangerous of a situation we are in.”

      Completely agree, Darla.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I share your concerns. I will be holding my breath until he is out of office. We are so vulnerable with him at the helm.

  9. vava says:

Clearly this guy is not right in the head.

  10. Digital Unicorn says:

He really can’t NOT make himself look like an international fool. Apparently he likes to snort adderall before public events – if he’s high when talking to the press/dignitaries it explains a lot.

    • Darla says:

I hope your explanation is the right one and he is snorting that or any speed, because at his age and weight, he ain’t long for the world if that’s the case.

I fear it is dementia, but I pray you are right.

      • Jerusha says:

        Fingers crossed.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

TBH I think its both – he doesn’t drink alcohol but drugs are a different story. From what i’ve read it was/is well known in NYC circles that he was/is a speed freak and at one point a coke head. At some point he moved on from the white stuff to the prescription stuff. Adderall is used to treat ADHD, you don’t have to be an expert to see that he def has that. Its also used to treat narcolepsy – a sleep disorder.

      • Darla says:

Interesting DU, thanks for the info.

    • adastraperaspera says:

Yes, it’s drugs. He’s an addict

    • whatWHAT? says:

yeah, let’s not forget the SNIIIIFFFFFFINNNNGGG during the prez debates.

  11. ByTheSea says:

This is what white privilege looks like. That you can be an insipid, ignorant, mediocre to the core white man and still rise to the highest position in the world. This is it. Take a good look.

    • Snowflake says:

Yep. I’m white, and i have never realized before the full depth of my white privilege. But seeing him get away with so much has truly been due to white privilege. Obama couldn’t get away with saying he was a black Panther. Trump said he was a white nationalist which is code for Nazi and there was barely a ripple of outrage. Not to mention getting a pass from Christians for having an affair with and lying about paying off a p0rn star! Made me realize all they care about is keeping America wh,ite

  12. Jerusha says:

Here is the story of trump’s grandfather-born in Germany-running away from military service(duh) and fleeing to America as an unaccompanied minor. Making his fortune, then returning to Germany, where he was then kicked out for avoiding service. Back to America. Damn you, Germany! The trumps would’ve been Adolph’s biggest fans.

    • Anastasia says:

      And running brothels! Of course!

    • GenTer says:

@Jerusha, yes—AND that “restaurant” that Orange One’s grandfather bought was actually a cover for his brothel here in Seattle. Ugh, that family.

  13. Jerusha says:

Slightly OT, hope it gets through-Queen Cher informing her followers of even more corruption in the most corrupt administration in our history.
    https://twitter.com/cher/status/1112279387116724226?s=21

  14. Who ARE These People? says:

How’s Ivanka’s rumored plan to keep an eye on ailing Daddy going? Dangle a trademark or a photo-op field trip in front of her and off she goes.

    • Lightpurple says:

That was never Nagini’s plan. As John Oliver once said, people try to impose good motives to Ivanka because she looks like she smells nice. She’s not there to control his impulses or sway him to more moderate positions. Nagini agrees with everything he says and does and a good amount of it originated or oranges with her. Nagini is there to profit Nagini, to maximize the corruption

  15. Scal says:

I do think he’s slipping mentaly but it’s also that lying liar can’t keep his lies straight. In art of the deal he said dad was born in Sweden. Now it’s germany. I’m sure it will be some other European country at some point.

Sometimes I just wonder how all of this lying and deceit is the new normal. How is any of this normal?

  16. Lightpurple says:

If we apply birther logic to this, the mother doesn’t matter and we are citizens of wherever our fathers were born, Trump just disqualified himself from the presidency.

  17. Anastasia says:

A doctor on Twitter blew up a screen shot from that video and pointed out his obviously dilated pupils. Even measured them. He’s definitely on something.

  18. Franny says:

He is an incompetent, would-be fascist. He is also the poster child for being white and male is definitely NOT enough.

At least we now have the most diverse Congress in history.

  19. Jennie says:

I read about Trumps background a while ago… can’t remember source. So, from this article, Trumps Grandfather was born in Germany( Bavaria), he was a ducked military service by going to the US. Later he wanted to return to Germany and the German government would not allow ihim in due to his crime. He had to stay in US.

  20. KatieBo says:

I still cannot f’cking believe he got elected.

  21. Jaded says:

I’m Canadian, live close to the Washington State border (Vancouver Island) and swore when Trump became president I wouldn’t set foot in the U.S. until he was gone, but I’ve changed my stance. I won’t let that puerile, tantrum-throwing idiot fill me with so much hatred that I won’t go to the States anymore. So I’ve planned a trip to Seattle where Mr. Jaded and I will get on a cruise ship and travel up the inside passage to Alaska, something I’ve always wanted to do. If I happen to run into Maggats I will smile sweetly and avoid any mention of politics.

  22. Birdie says:

I feel very uncomfortable that the US nuclear bombs are stored in Germany and he is the person with the finger on the button.

  23. Janie says:

I’m confused with what you’re saying about Bavarian history here. My grandmother was born around the same time as Fred Trump in Bavaria. Bavaria was a part of the German Empire when she was born, and she considers herself a German born in Germany.

Bavaria became a part of the German Empire in 1870. In my experience, although most Bavarians consider themselves “Bavarians first,” they do consider themselves German. I doubt Fred Trump was born in Germany, but if he had been calling his birthplace Germany would have been accurate.
