Julianne Moore looked amazing in emerald Dior for Cannes Opening Night

Opening and 'The Dead Don't Die' Premiere, Cannes Film Festival

Every year, there are certain women who attend the Cannes Film Festival not because they’re promoting a certain film or project, but because of their various sponsorships and advertising contracts. That’s why Julianne Moore comes to Cannes so often – she has some kind of contract with L’Oreal Paris, one of the sponsors of Cannes. Other women are contractually obligated to come to Cannes for jewelry contracts or fashion contracts too. But Julianne is there for L’Oreal. For the opening night festivities, Julianne chose a really gorgeous Dior gown in emerald green. So many people think redheads shouldn’t wear green because “it looks like Christmas.” It does look like Christmas, but I love it, and I love this gown. It’s spectacular on her. Check out her emerald and diamond earrings too.

Elle Fanning in on the Cannes jury this year, so we can look forward to seeing her practically every night of the festival. The Cannes organizers know that, and that’s why they always put at least one “fashionista” on the jury every year – they want some glamourous young woman in couture all the time. Elle played along in this Gucci gown and Chopard jewelry. The color kind of washes her out, and I hope she brought gowns in colors other than cream, white and pale yellow. Her styling is fantastic though, even if I think the Gucci is rather…blah. Ugh, the shoulders. No one that young should wear a dress with that kind of shoulder padding.

Eva Longoria is another lady who turns up at Cannes every year because of her beauty contract. It’s been happening for at least a decade! And every year, I’m sort of underwhelmed by her fashion choices, right? This year, she wore a custom Alberta Ferretti gown which looks… not as high-end as it should.

Julianne Moore looks incredible. That dress is gorgeous and the color is great on her.

Elle Fanning looks pretty good, I actually really like that dress, and I think her hair and makeup are lovely, but the overall effect does wash her out.

Eva Longoria is a big no from me.

    • Kitten says:

That emerald green color is one of my favorites, but it looks so much more incredible on women with Julianne’s complexion/coloring than it does on blondes like me.
Her fashion choices are usually hit-or-miss but imo she knocked it out of the ballpark this time.

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

JM for the win, just gorgeous! That dress is to die for! I LOVE green, esp. that shade of green. And those emerald earrings!! I wish her hair was up to see them better.

Elle looks really lovely, but could you imagine her in that dress in crimson? Or any jewel tone? Hell, even a pastel blue, lilac, or green, while still not *great*, would be better than these nude/skin tones she always seems to wear.

Eva… sigh… yes, you’re still “sexy”, even after a baby. Now, go put on some clothes. (I really wish women wouldn’t equate “sexiness” with showing most of your body. Sometimes more IS sexier).

  2. Seraphina says:

All the women are beautiful. Julianne hit it out of the ball park. Elle looks great but the shadow in the middle of her chest looks strange. And Eva is beautiful, why is standing with her leg propped so awkwardly??? Big no from me too.

    • original_kellybean says:

I think that is just Elle’s chest bone. And as for Eva’s stance – who knows? She had to showcase her leg??

    • Carol says:

Why must every person who wears a dress with a slit feel the need to show me the slit and exactly how high up it goes?

  3. LeaTheFrench says:

Julianne Moore is magnificent in that dress. It’s just the right amount of drama for the Cannes red carpet. She looks radiant! She’s such a natural beauty…

  4. Lucy2 says:

That is the best dress that Julianne has ever worn! She looks absolutely perfect.
Don’t love the other two. Eva’s is kind of tacky.

  5. Eliza says:

Julianne looks great. Wish it was a less fall/ winter color vibe, but that’s nit picking.

Elles hair, makeup, and jewels are fabulous. The dress… Gucci 30s nightgown in terrible peach.

  6. Nibbi says:

Julianne Moore is stunning, I love that color on her, & I think she’s one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood.

Elle’s hair and makeup is gorgeous- I think her face is maturing into some real gorgeousness- but the dress is entirely a “no” on every front.

Eva Longoria… meh. That “leg pose” just needs to be abandoned. It looks contrived and pretentious on anybody.

  7. tempest prognosticator says:

Julianne looks stunning. Well done! Elle looks like a storybook princess. Hmmmm… I got nothin’ for Eva.

  8. PlayItAgain says:

How the hell did Elle Fanning get on the jury? She’s been in the business about 5 minutes and won nothing besides maybe a stupid surfboard.

    • knotslaning says:

Elle has been in the business since she was a kid and has been making movies for almost 20 years (close to 60 films). I get it because she is very talented, interesting looking and willing to act in insane films (ever see neon demon). I think Elle has a career trajectory of a Julianne Moore or Cate Blanchett. I think she is going to have a long career.

    • Lady D says:

She guest starred in Criminal Minds when she was eight.

  9. Sue Denim says:

I saw Julianne Moore once in Florence. She was riding down a narrow crowded street on a bicycle and there was such a radiance about her, it truly felt like she was glowing. Real star power, and timeless beauty. I hear she’s as lovely on the inside as well.

    • knotslaning says:

I see her in Manhattan all of the time. I think she lives near my office. I totally agree that she has a radiance, and I think she is probably one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. She seems really kind too!

  10. Veronica S. says:

Hands down, probably one of the best she’s ever worn. Very flattering fit with the right shade of green for her features. The cape gives it just enough drama for Cannes, too.

Elle Fanning’s dress seems too matronly on her. I think it would look lovely on an older woman – think Judi Dench or the like – but it doesn’t quite fit with her girlish looks for me.

  11. Case says:

Julianne and Elle both look breathtakingly beautiful. I can’t overstate ho much I love both of these looks.

Cannes is one of my favorite red carpets. I think it’s more dramatic than the Oscars.

  12. KBeth says:

Julianne & Elle look stunning…Eva’s dress looks like a cheap, tacky Barbie creation.

  13. Tiffany :) says:

I’ve never heard that redheads shouldn’t wear green because it looks like Christmas. I’ve always heard redheads should wear green because it looks fabulous on them.

    • BeanieBean says:

That’s what I’ve heard from the redheads I’ve known–green is their best color.

    • Elizabeth says:

Absolutely correct! Besides, “red” hair isn’t red – it’s orange.

      • greta says:

No, it’s not “orange” – it’s red. Not the same shade of red as an apple, just red. Haven’t heard that one since elementary school on the playground – just had a flashback to an interaction with a playground bully who used to say that :(.

    • North of Boston says:

It depends on the shade of red – it can shift from orange to red to brown. And some redheads have strands of different shades. I’m mostly strawberry blonde, but I’ve got individual hairs that are true blonde, strawberry blonde, deeper ‘red’ and auburn.

But natural red hair is more on the orangey red end of things than on the cherry red or red-red end of things.

Also, I’ve never heard the “don’t wear green, it’s like Christmas’ thing…ever. I have been told that (most) greens look great on me, blues too.

  14. Yup, Me says:

Eva’s dress isn’t great, but she is awesome and I love how her leg muscles are popping. She’s clearly been working hard after baby to show up and show out. I’m happy for her.

    • DiegoInSF says:

I know, she is back to the body she had when Desperate Housewives started. She had struggled with her weight so congrats! She looks sizzling!

  15. Nicegirl says:

    I love Julianne Moore

  16. schmootc says:

Ah, shoulder pads. The first thing I did if I bought anything with shoulder pads in it in the 80s was rip or cut them out. They’re just weird and not attractive 99% of the time.

  17. SM says:

I agree, she did look amazing! She is such a beautiful woman and her styling often is so wacky so I am really happy about this look

  18. Emby says:

LOVE the peach gown. Perfect 1940’s silhouette with the shoulders, bodice, and drape.

  19. Laura-j says:

I think Elle’s dress is very old school hollywood, I just think it might look better in a darker color. Like that Green would be amazing.

  20. CheckThatPrivilege says:

I think they all look fabulous

  21. Mar says:

Elle is killing is at this festival
Julianne’s color is emerald green. She is the green goddess

  22. Karen2 says:

Wheres Marion then. I want her to Bring It.

  23. La Ronda says:

Not much love on here for the Cannes Film Festival. Must be the lack of Marvel movies. 😕
