Courteney Cox’s daughter Coco wears her dress 21 years later

Soon after Courteney Cox joined Instagram, she told James Cordon regarding figuring out what to post, “I still have some flashback – thank God for (Throwback) Thursdays and (Flashbacks) Fridays – those are really killing it for me.” And if you check out her page, you see what she means (no shade – if it weren’t for pets and food, I’d have a very sad and lonely page myself). However, Courteney has been branching out, playing with silly filters and face-switches that turn her into Jared Leto. Her latest post is a nice blend of old and new, when she posted a pic of a dress she wore over two decades ago side-by-side with her daughter Coco, 14, wearing it in present day:

I remember the night Courtney wore this dress! She wore it in 1998 to the premiere of Snake Eyes (which, ironically, I don’t remember at all – not even the title). At that time, Courteney was my penultimate physical ideal. I wanted to look like Laurie Petrie above all else but Courteney was a very close second (I was never going to look like either). Everything is working here, the color of the dress complements her and her styling is just about perfect. But the true beauty of this dress, which is a pretty simple design, is how perfectly it is fit to her, which is exactly why it’s working on Coco as well. It’s like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Premiere Dress (or just a good tailor). I hope Coco is wearing it for something fun, like maybe a school dance. Nobody her age would remember it, but she knows the history to it and she still looks amazing. Like Courteney, I don’t usually hang on to clothing but this is a good argument for it.

Side-note: Courteney talks about Coco all the time but never in a TMI way and they always look so peaceful in photos together. Just going off the photographic evidence I have, it seems like they have a really solid mother-daughter dynamic. That’s wonderful.

Secondary side-note – the only thing I did not like about Courteney’s styling the night she wore that dress in 1998 was that she accessorized with David Arquette wearing this:

Coco looks a lot like her father.

  2. manda says:

Snake Eyes was an ok movie! Was she in it? It had nicolas cage and took place in a casino during a boxing match during a blackout. And it had an interesting twist.

I think this dress is hideous, can’t believe she saved it all these years!

  3. Eliza says:

Dress fits perfectly in now. 90s flashback is real. But it’s more flattering then some of the “new-90s” options in the stores.

She, like many Hollywood girls, looks just like daddy.

  4. Erinn says:

I see a lot of both parents in Coco. She’s a beautiful girl – she has some stunning bright brown eyes.

  5. Slowsnow says:

The dress is not great… why keep it and repeat it?!

  6. elimaeby says:

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of Coco (at least, not since she was little). She’s a really beautiful girl.

  7. M says:

Awww I love this! I saved some of my favorite 90s clothes in case I had a daughter. I was always mad my mom didn’t save her amazing 70s wardrobe so I didn’t want to make the same mistake. And then I had 2 boys 🤷‍♀️

I still have some of it but started to give some away (I’m looking at you Doc Marten multicolored velvet boots) to nieces who could appreciate it now. And maybe my boys will still want some of it.

    • terra says:

@M, there’s always granddaughters. I have several things of my grandmothers, both maternal and paternal. My maternal grandmother was – and still is – the very glamorous sort and her wardrobe in the seventies reflected that. My favorite is a killer green silk dress from a high-end local designer’s shop in Dallas. I only wish she’d saved more pieces.

  8. The Twinkle Function says:

Coco joins Ireland Baldwin, Sailor Cook, Kaia Gerber etc etc who just narrowly missed out on their mum’s unique beauty and more resemble the dads…

    • olive says:

that’s always how it seems to be, isn’t it? and those same women’s sons get their beauty – look at cindy crawford’s son, he looks just like her. or even christie brinkley’s son looks more like her than either of her daughters.

      • Elle says:

I am sorry but Cindy Crawford’s son looks like Joffrey the psychopath from Game of thrones. There is nothing aesthetic about that.

      • olive says:

@elle i mean, maybe if you watch game of thrones, but i don’t and have no idea who that is so i’m blissfully ignorant 🙂

    • Jegede says:

      👍👍👍

That is so common in real life too.

Same to famous political clans, like the Kennedy & Reagan kids.

The boys look like Mom, The girls look like Dad.

      • prettypersuasion says:

This may be true. My 3 boys all resemble me (all in different ways, which is interesting), and my daughter looks like her dad!

  9. Lowrider says:

Courtney’s fave is so creepy. A year round Halloween mask.

    • Chrissyms says:

She was so beautiful. It’s sad. I often wish we could see what certain plastic surgery junkies would have looked like with a more natural aging process. Courtney still would have been very striking as she aged without all those fillers. Same goes for Gwen Stefani.

      • SKF says:

Courtney was stunning and has great bone structure so she most likely would have aged beautifully. She actually looks like my mum (but with blue eyes) and my mum has aged so, so well with no surgical or needle help whatsoever. I can’t look at Courtney without feeling sad about what she did to her beautiful face. She’s trying to undo a lot of it now, but the damage is done. If she had to fiddle, she should have gone the Demi Moore route and kept it very subtle and left her lips and cheeks alone.

  10. Mego says:

Plastic surgery has been very unkind to Courteney. Too bad she didn’t have Kate Middleton’s or Angelina’s surgeon and I mean that in a nice way. Plastic surgery is good if the person actually looks better after the procedure (s).

    • Renee says:

Yes, it is unfortunate how far she went with messing with her face……

      • Originaltessa says:

My gut tells me she and Madonna have the same surgeon. Just went waaay to fat filling in the cheeks and jowls.

  11. Esmom says:

I remember the dress, too! That photo was probably in People magazine at the time, my go-to for celeb info back then, lol. I think it’s cute, but I am alway s sucker for a sheer overlay type detail. And Coco is lovely.

  12. Barrett says:

It’s her lips, big lips we’rent meant for her bone structure or features. I think she cut out the rest of the crazy fillers so her cheeks look better!

  13. SJR says:

Courtney, before the plastic surgery, was a stunningly beautiful woman.
Whoever messed up her face should be rejected from the medical field.

Ever seen 3000 Miles to Graceland? Courtney was just gorgeous. Goofy movie tho. Courtney, Costner, Kurt Russell star.

What in the world did Courtney ever see in David?

Remember when Courtney was involved with Michael Keaton? They were an interesting pair.

  14. Sassbr says:

I just think it’s weird that it fits her as a 14 year old when her mother wore it when she was in like her late twenties. Which shoes how very thin, maybe too thin, Courtney Cox was. Tbh I always thought she was battling an eating disorder-which was sort of shades of her actual Friends character.

    • Veronica S. says:

That uncomfortable “heroin chic” look was in during the mid to late 90s. The women were so crazy thin it was disturbing, particularly in modeling contexts. People can complain about fat positive or exercise-heavy culture all they want, but frankly I’ll take those over the starvation look some women had back then.

    • Mego says:

I don’t know about an eating disorder BUT remember I time when size zero was a big thing? Remember Courteney, Jen, Debra Messing, Ally MacBiel and all the other zeros? The ones around whom Lisa Kudro felt like a fat giant? I for one appreciate that the Kardashian’s ended that craziness.

      • Sassbr says:

I remember we were supposed to believe that Debra Messing’s character on Will & Grace “ate her feelings” or whatever. Yah, ok.

      • DiegoInSF says:

The Kardashians didn’t end it. It was JLo!

      • alice says:

@DiegoInSF Yes! Thank you! If anything the Kardashians have ushered in a new era where extreme surgery has replaced extreme dieting.

      • Chrissyms says:

or that Monica used to be fat!

    • Dani says:

Courtney was always on the thinner side – when filming for Friends started, and all the way through (I just finished binge watching all the seasons again). Court is also 5’5” and it seems like her daughter is already her height at 15.

      • Sassbr says:

That’s not unusual, I would say most girls get to their full height at that age. I haven’t grown since I was like 13, pretty sure.

      • hogtowngooner says:

When Monica started dating Chandler (season 5?) she was crazy thin, same with Jennifer Aniston. They both looked emaciated.

      • Chrissyms says:

that was the time of atkins!

      • lucy2 says:

I remember her video with Springsteen, she always was very thin.
I think the pressures of the show added to the women all losing weight too.

Courteney has such beautiful eyes! Her daughter is so pretty too, and definitely looks like the Arquette side more.

  15. Naddie says:

I mistook her from Lana Del Rey.

  16. Chrissyms says:

I will forever admire Courtneys Hair. Always so thick and shiny. The dark hair and bright blue eyes. I like the dress. It’s cute.

  17. Godwina says:

In response to queries above, I think CC must have at least had some dysmorphia or somesuch. I still remember her calling herself a wide load in an interview during the Friends era.

  18. Darla says:

Yes, the 90’s was the decade of the emaciated size 0. Calista Flockhart was the ideal. Who was the lady who costared on Ally McBeal, she was later on 40 Rock? Anyway, I remember so many photo shoots and interviews where she was really very obviously so insecure about her very beautiful figure. She looked big next to Calista and the other ladies from Ally McBeal. But she was in fact, quite thin. For many years Calista vehemently denied having an eating disorder, making everything worse for young women everywhere. She was just naturally emaciated. Except of course, she was not. Which she finally admitted years later after all of the damage was done. Aniston came under fire for being fat in the first year of Friends believe it or not. Then she got emaciated too, to match Courtney. Oh what a time.

I love the dress, but then, I am a 90’s girl.

    • A says:

Yup yup. Wasn’t that the whole ‘Heroin chic’ era w/ Kate Moss being all, “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” I mean, I love Kate Moss, a lot more than most other supermodels of that time, but yeeeeeeeah.

    • Phat girl says:

Was that Jane Krakowski? I agree, I thought she was much more beautiful than Calista Flockhart.

    • Granger says:

I remember when Jennifer Aniston started dating Brad Pitt. It was at the end of season 4 of Friends, and when she came back for season 5, she’d lost so much weight over the summer that it was jarring. I’ve always thought it’s because she looked at Pitt’s former girlfriends — Juliette Lewis and Gwyneth Paltrow — and realized he likes them skinny. Probably didn’t help that she had to be seen next to Courtney Cox’s too-thin frame every day.

  19. Chelly says:

I dont hold on tp clothes either and my nieces are always after me that I should’ve saved my 90s clothes for them. Like I knew it’d be back in fashion lol

  20. Usedtobe says:

Ugh oh how I wish she left her face alone. She looks like a caricature of her old self and looks like every woman over 50 who overdoes it.

I like the dress on both her and her daughter.
Her and David made such a cute couple. I really liked them together.

Courtney during the Friends era was super tiny but she was ripped. I don’t know if she ever had an eating disorder or body dysmorphia but she definitely looked like she worked out hard.

    • A says:

There is such a visceral difference in her face between Friends season 4 and Friends season 5. Like, it’s noticeable, but it’s one where I’ve never fully been able to figure out WHAT the difference even was. It just drives me crazy every time I binge the show. D:

      • Usedtobe says:

I watched the show when it was in its original heyday but don’t recall from them.
I’m only on Season 2 now but I am now wishing I was further ahead so I could know exactly what you’re talking about!

  21. Riley says:

That is so cool that CoCo is wearing her dress but looks like momma is messing with her face again. I have no issues with fillers or botox but she needs to go to someone more skilled at it!
