The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge are officially on their summer vacation now

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, watch the Wimbledon Men's Singles Final on Centre Court. London, United Kingdom - Sunday July 14th, 2019.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were very loose with each other, and loose in general on Sunday at Wimbledon. They almost always come out for the Men’s Final and have a “daytime date,” and in years past, neither of them has seemed particularly relaxed. Which I can understand, because they know the cameras are there and they know they’re being watched, and they sometimes looked a bit prickly about that. But this year, they seemed to embrace it. They really seemed to be enjoying themselves for the historic final and they seemed to enjoy being there together. So does it follow that after a hiccup by the name of Rose Hanbury, everything is solid in the Cambridges’ marriage? Perhaps. Although it will be interesting to see if they spend the bulk of their summer holiday in Norfolk, won’t it?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge can sit back and relax – they have officially started their summer holiday. As they do every year, Prince William and Kate will take a break from royal duties in July and August before returning to work in September. They will make an exception on Friday 9 August though, to host The King’s Cup sailing regatta in Cowes in support of their patronages. William and Kate will each skipper two of the individual sailboats in the eight-boat race. The royals are both keen sailors, with the Duchess even crewing a yacht on a round-the-world trip during her gap year. The winning team will be awarded the historic trophy The King’s Cup, first presented by King George V in 1920.

The royals are not expected to make another public appearance until the sailing regatta in August, although they may carry out private engagements at Kensington Palace. It’s not known how the Cambridges will spend their summer, but they are likely to make the traditional trip to Balmoral to spend time with the Queen and Prince Philip at some point. The family will also celebrate Prince George’s birthday on 22 July. Last year, the royals celebrated on the private island of Mustique. The Middletons often holiday in the Caribbean; George’s first long-haul vacation was to Mustique when he was around six months old.

[From Hello]

On one side, I’m happy that Will & Kate will be “off duty” for a few months, because that might mean there’s less of a push from Kensington Palace to smear the Sussexes. On the other side, it’s not like the British press needs tips from KP to smear the Sussexes, and I’m worried that in the absence of Cambridge news and Cambridge appearances, the press will just start throwing nasty stories out there, just to create havoc. The sleepy summer months are usually when a lot of the worst storylines take hold too, because royal reporters have to fill their pages somehow. Just be aware – the next two months could be full of shenanigans. And also keep your eye on Turnip Toff gossip and whether the Cambridges spend most of their summer in Norfolk.

I hope they’re happy. They look good

I expect Kate and Meghan will have overlapping pregnancies next year. Then I think both will be done.

  2. Cerys says:

Will we notice the difference? Life is one long holiday for the Cambridges interspersed with the odd appearance to break the monotony.

    • Nives says:

      This!

      • Tessycat says:

I like demonstrative pronouns too: this, that, these, those! Grumbles…annoying reply.

      • Sass says:

Tessycat what an absolutely unnecessary, irrelevant waste of comment room on your part.

    • Becks1 says:

No, we wont lol. Remember when Kate went dark in the spring and it took weeks before any of us actually noticed, and I feel like we are pretty diligent royal followers lol.

    • Diplomanatee says:

I bet they think of it as a “reverse retirement”, since they’re due to be working nonstop since they inherit and until they die, they’re living their retirement years now 😛
      Princely logic 101.

      • Kim says:

I do feel bad for the Queen though. 95 and still working hard. No retirement for her apparently.

    • VS says:

100% agree……..them going on vacation won’t make a damn difference.. absolute lack of creativity or leadership skills between the two of them

  3. duchess of hazard says:

    Wait, they were working? Okay…

    • Giddy says:

This is not work in any normal definition. Unless you define it, as KP evidently does, as occasionally showing up well dressed, looking beautiful and mildly interested. Then one is able to return home (I don’t know which one) where one can REST for heaven’s sake. But one is always quite keen, Terribly, terribly keen.

  4. OriginalLala says:

Aren’t their lives basically one long luxurious vacation with some charity work sprinkled in?

  5. Melissa says:

The more I read stories about the royals, the more ridiculous they sound. These people are worshipped because of having the right DNA. Sport matches, red carpet appearances, vanity projects, etc. are considered hard work. Lavish homes, expensive vacations and clothes, and a lifetime of security simply for marrying into a privileged family.

    • Becks1 says:

I enjoy following the royals for the gossip and drama and yes, the palaces and clothes and bling, but I cant think about it too much. If I start thinking about it, its both enraging and just ludicrous – not just the BRF, but the concept of royalty in general. “okay, so, you were born to these parents, so here’s your crown and the people are going to cheer for you when you drive by in your luxury car and you need to go cut some ribbons now and that’s called work and then you go home to your palace.”

I cant do anything about it so I just enjoy the gossip etc.

      • minx says:

        Same.

      • marjorie says:

Agree. But when having the best seats in the house at Wimbledon is considered work….

      • BayTampaBay says:

IMHO, Monarchy’s only work when you have someone like QEII or Felipe VI of Spain wearing the crown. These two know and understand that the cheering crowds are not for them personally but for the crown.

I really believe that every royal other than the monarch and the direct heir are just hangars-on. Some like the Princess deserve to be hangars-on because they give good value but others just need to be cut loose.

      • RoyalBlue says:

Co-sign on this. People have created these gods that they love to worship, curtesy, bow before and adore. The prettier, slimmer and taller, the better. They coo and ahh at the spawn they produced and marvel at their simple words. To justify their existence now, they are sold to the public as marketing tools for charity. Bizarre.

I love to follow royal news but this system makes no sense. In fact it’s just plain nonsense.

So William gets to spend 6 weeks off relaxing and rejuvenating his spirit somewhere luxurious with his wife and kids and when he returns from his privileged break will be speaking to men about their mental health!? My God! The irony is not lost on me.

      • noway says:

I’d say this is true about all the ceremonial royals and a lot of wealthy off spring. The only thing with the royals is they are paid by the British taxpayer. Personally I think there is just too many of them. Charles has the right idea, just cut the number down and limit the expenses. They are all wealthy in their own right, make them live off that. It does seem with the tourist fascination a smaller family would pay for itself. Maybe even make money for the country, what a novel idea!!!!!

    • OriginalLala says:

The whole concept is ridiculous, especially in the 21st century – we keep cutting social services for people who actually need them yet we keep supporting the Royal Family’s lavish lifestyles, whether they “work” or not, they don’t deserve the compensation they receive.

    • Lowrider says:

That’s what I have been saying!

The royals are a ridiculous group of people.

    • Diplomanatee says:

This exactly. No one is better than anyone by virtue of their bloodline, and hell, by that logic I’d be more royal than the royals!

What worries me is that this family does believe that, and they buy into their own hype. Look at Andrew, he truly believes he is owed stuff just because he’s a prince. They all do.

    • grumpy says:

They don’t even have the right DNA, most native Brits are related to Edward III, so we are all royal and the present royals are in the job not because of survival of the fittest but because the ruling class handed the throne to some random person in Hannover and their descendants.

  6. minx says:

Pampered poodles, every last one of them.

    • blacktoypoodle says:

      As a poodle person I’m outraged!!!…….. oh, ……..wait.
Geez. I’d like to live like my dog…..

  7. Becks1 says:

I will say that I was wrong, I think I said in April we would see her half a dozen times between Easter and September and we did see her more than that, even if half the appearances were for Wimbledon and the garden, lol.

My guess is they go to Balmoral after the regatta on August 9.

  8. Perry says:

This is the most lazy royal couple I have ever seen, spoilt, entitled and not accountable.

    • nikki says:

I can see taking four weeks off, since Europeans seem to have such good benefits, but two MONTHS off, and from the taxing job of attending concerts, events, and exhibits??? SO SPOILED!!

  9. Busyann says:

Something I’ve wondered about the whole Rose thing. I know there was a rumor that Rose leaked the story to teach Kate, but could it be that Kate and the Middleton’s leaked the story? To reign Will in and stop the affair?

    • Perry says:

It could be, maybe William fell in love. The agreement could have been looking the other way but if he falls in love, then he might out for the other woman ref. Charles and Camilla.

    • Millenial says:

I don’t know if this is true, but I love it from a gossip standpoint. Carole Middleton, the Machiavellian string-puller.

      • bamaborn says:

Millennial…oh, there should be books written about that Lady. You take 2 mediocre daughters and parlay that into a future queen Consort and the wife of a multi millionaire. Hadn’t seen anything like that since the boelyns.

    • Becks1 says:

You all know I like my tinfoil hats, so I’ll adjust it accordingly here for a minute.

I can actually almost buy that Kate leaked it. What we first heard was that there was a “falling out” and Kate was “fazing Rose out” or whatever the phrase was. I can almost see Kate or her family leaking that story as a way to get Rose’s name out there and to embarrass her (“Rose has been iced out by the FFQC!!!”) and not anticipating how things might snowball from there. It actually seems legit if you think about it, because the whole thing was so messy that it definitely seemed like whoever leaked the initial story did not expect the fallout.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Becks, No matter who leaked the story it appears to me that Turnip Toffs and the tabloid press closed ranks to protect Rose Hanbury or at least to throw some shade on Cathy Cambridge.

It has been stated on CB that the Tabloid Press does not really like Bill Cambridge but does anyone know how the tabloid press currently feels about Cathy Cambridge?

      • Becks1 says:

I think currently the tabloid press loves Kate, because loving her and building her up helps them to bring down Meghan.

      • BayTampaBay says:

What I cannot get over is the hate that the tabloid press (read commentariat of The Daily Fail) and posters at DataLounge have developed for Harry.

Interesting note: It is a sad day when the commentariat is more sane, professional and fair at the DataLounge than at The Daily Fail,

  10. Deedee says:

Wouldn’t it be easier if they took up several patronages on the island of Mustique? They could count their vacations as work.

  11. Maria says:

The only thing anyone cares about these two for is the Rose Hanbury story.

  12. AprilMay says:

A month off for Easter, a month and a half to 2 months off for Summer. A week off not long after Easter for mid-term. Probably at least another week off for around Halloween. William’s numbers for the first six months of the year are already down 25% on the same time last year. So much for stepping up and becoming a full time royal/future King. The 93 year old Queen did almost as much in the first 6 months as the Cambridges did combined.
    https://writeroyalty.com/some-unexpected-surprises-from-six-months-of-royal-work-statistics/

  13. Lowrider says:

I await a million articles from “sources” on how Harry and Meghan are experiencing marriage difficulties.

They are the whipping couple for the media.

    • Melissa says:

I think we’re going to see ridiculous stories about their vacation plans especially if they stay with the Clooneys again in Italy.

And can you imagine the hysteria if Harry, Meghan, and Archie visit the US this summer?

    • Mego says:

The Ottawa Citizen ran run which originated from Canoe about Harry urging Meghan to goi into therapy to work through all of her protocol breaking missteps over the past year. It made no sense even by tabloid standards.

  14. Snap Happy says:

Did anyone see the Peter Jephson (sp?) article where he gave the DOS advice after the Wimbledon drama? I don’t know much about him but he said he worked for Diana. He praised the Cambridge’s as transparent, hard working, etc. 1. I didn’t know Diana personally, but it seems like a good guess she wouldn’t appreciate someone criticizing her daughter-in-law publicly. It must be aggravating to Will and Harry when people invoke their dead mother to criticize them. And, 2. do the people involved with the royals really think the Cambridge’s are hard working? Or is this guy totally on the outs and trying to make $?

    • BayTampaBay says:

This Jephson person is just out to make $$$$$$!

    • OriginalLala says:

I read his book about working for Diana, it was interesting. He didnt paint her in the most positive light and didn’t shy away from talking about her faults. The royal family apparently hated the book.

      • Snap Happy says:

Do you think his criticisms were accurate or do you think he was being sensational to sell books?

      • BayTampaBay says:

@OriginalLala, Do you know why the Royal Family hated the book?

  15. Linda says:

    @APRILMAY
William still outworked Harry and that’s not saying much. With the exception of Meghan who is on maternity leave, William, Harry and Kate are not pulling their weight work wise. It’s a shame that the older royals outworked them all.

    • kris says:

Harry seems to have a lot of things planned though. Even though the Disney thing hasn’t been formally announced, some planning has been going on. I’m guessing they don’t get credit for those things though.

    • 90s girl says:

      Read Way Ahead Group.
William was the LEAST working , his workload dropped 25% this year so far.
      He worked less than Pr.Harry.
Way ahead is telling the truth about how lazy William and Kate are.

No way these two change much when they become Prince and Princess of Wales, it will be interesting seeing the uk Royal media make excuses for them.

    • VS says:

William outwork Harry? what’s the impact of William’s work? can you point us to one example of his work that can remotely be compared to the Invictus or Sentabele?

Meghan, in 1 freaking year, has had more impact than Kate and William combined. Kate and William have been married for 8 – 9 years…….

Goal is not to show their face every day cutting ribbons, goal is to actually meaningfully impact lives or make significant changes……..

  16. Lise says:

For sure we will see little articles peppered throughout the summer regarding how “keen” they are to “hit the ground running” in the fall. And then September will roll around and… another pregnancy announcement! These two have a system.

    • bamaborn says:

Lol, Lise…reminds me of when they were moving from Norfolk to KP to take up more royal duties. Two weeks later, they announced Kate was pregnant. LOL!

      • BayTampaBay says:

Some how I get the feeling that William really does not want a fourth child.

  17. Jumpingthesnark says:

There see will be more turnip toff stories if the Andy stories keep getting traction. BP will use these tidbits as a distractor.
As far as their “work ethic” (and I use that term loosely ), well……. Willy doesn’t seem to understand that the British people could get fed up, decide they’d rather have a properly funded NHS rather than a monarchy and return these people to private citizen status.
I wonder if Willy would decide that he and Kate need to work more if the republican movement gained some traction.

  18. Myra says:

Maybe William is happy because he will see Rose more. Kate’s happy because she doesn’t have to work on new concepts for her Gardens. What will we do without rope from trees and butt log counting clouds while daydreaming! I’m missing Kate already. I think Kate’s probably happy to go on long expensive vacations that the RR will not report because they dislike Meghan so Kate gets a pass.

  19. Digital Unicorn says:

It started 2 weeks ago, as lets face it attending Wimbledon several times to watch the tennis isn’t really wasn’t work. We won’t see them until October now (even when the kids go back to school before then they won’t return to work), unless Megs and Harry are out and about.

    • bamaborn says:

      Pretty much the scenario now.

    • Vv says:

I think Meghan’s appearance with Kate was counted as an engagement as well (like the baseball game and the LK premiere). So I don’t get the complaints if it’s counted as “work” for Kate, who at least was attending as patron and doing her “meet and greet” part.

  20. Mumbles says:

George and Charlotte are the hardest working members of this family because they go to school.

To think that Queen Elizabeth worked as a volunteer driver/mechanic during the war and then used ration cards for her wedding out of loyalty and empathy with the “regular” people. These two are so pampered. Cathy couldn’t even show up a few days a week at her parents’ friends company for a make-busy job when she was single. If a dope like me notices it, I gotta think the Queen notices.

Acting isn’t ditch digging but at least Meghan knows about getting up early in the morning, dealing with co-workers, interacting with crew, etc., and then taking care of herself with the money she made.

    • Lowrider says:

“George and Charlotte are the hardest working members of this family because they go to school.”

      Bahahabahahaaaaaaaaaa

    • kris says:

Remember folks lost their mind at the GOSSIP that she was up at 5am and they turned that into her overworking her staff with e-mails and texts.

  21. Andrea says:

They truly are disappointing. Wonder what the queen thinks?!?

    • Lowrider says:

What is she going to do? Do you think she cares?

      • BayTampaBay says:

I think QEII cares greatly and does not know what to do.

However, the problems with Cambridge & Sussex are NOTHING compared to the potential problems with pedophile Andy! There will be lots of stories about the Sussexes and the Norfolk Rose Bush this summer from all levels of the press. Rose who????

      • A says:

@Bay, the Queen is notoriously non-confrontational. But I also somehow doubt that she really keeps up with the young’uns in the family, barring any potential reputation damage they could bring upon the RF. As long as they’re not embarrassing her or anyone else, I don’t think she particularly minds how much work they do. Of course, that number can’t be at zero, but if the tabs and the public aren’t making any noise about the laziness, I don’t think she’ll concern herself with it either (her private opinions on the subject, ofc, are a different topic).

    • Citresse says:

Look on the bright side: with new blood from Middleton and Markle, they’re no longer inbred leeches. They’re just leeches.

      • 90s girl says:

Meghan works, so she’s not a leech. Neither is Harry he works.
Prince Charles, Princess Anne, countess Sophie, Prince Edward, Duchess Camilla ,
They do hundreds of engagements a year.

William and Kate have been skating on publicity for years.

      • Vv says:

Is Harry doing hundreds of engagements?! Where? When? They are even less than his brother’s.
W&K shoul have kept the numbers higher before the summer break, but really, all of them have little to nothing scheduled until August that is their vacation month, and nobody is reporting about their breaks.

      • VS says:

@Vv ——- as mentioned above, do you think 10k engagements with no impact > 1 engagement with massive impact? LOL…….you just proved once again that infinity does exist

@citresse ………you should really learn how to troll……this is subpar work

  22. liriel says:

I’d really want to know more about mama Middleton. She’s street smart, she’s hard worker and you know, her scheme worked.. Kate got the ring, Pippa settles for less but still it’s a good deal for her. And since forever the Middletons formed connection with this snobby aristo crowd. I often feel like a weirdo and outsider but both sisters blended into the most impenetrable crowd. Carole, teach me sth please!

    • Ellen Olenska says:

I have always thought Carole deserved a lot more respect. She pulled off something truly amazing…and everyone likes to run her down. I don’t admire Kate’s or James’ work ethic ( I have slightly more respect for Pippa charitable work pre marriage ) but Carole pulled off the coup of the century and gets constantly belittled. She has hustle. She has drive. You might not respect her end goal but she certainly went after what she wanted and succeeded. Was it worth it? Not sure but it was a ton of work…

  23. Guest says:

Lmao royaldish has gone full blown sugar when it comes to big willy and kate. It’s so laughable at this point

    • Ina says:

I noticed that too. Totally going ga-ga over W&K as if they are the second coming while turning their hateful, thinly-veiled racist rhetoric towards Meghan. Sickening.

    • nic919 says:

When you are praised for handing out a trophy and your husband is supposed to be proud of that, then you have done very little as an adult indeed. They are the ultimate in white privilege.

  24. A says:

Me: *slowly sidles up to Kate and hands her a small post-it with reddit r/skincareaddiction written on it* It’ll change your life, trust me.

For real though, I’ve never really bought into the whole Kate has TERRIBLE skin thing, but I feel like home girl could use a good AHA exfoliant + retinol + SUNSCREEN!!!!!!! Just putting that out there.

They look like they had fun. I didn’t watch this match because I don’t really like tennis, but my dad caught some of it and he said it was amazing.

  25. syl says:

They look and act like a happily married couple. I think the Queen is thrilled with this couple. They are at the top of their game.

    • kerwood says:

      Rose, who?

      • syl says:

Very much so. That poorly sourced rumour doesn’t seem to have legs. True or not, it’s long since been successfully dealt with.

      • Nic919 says:

I suggest you post your fantasies elsewhere because Pepperidge farm remembers and will do so for years to come. 🌹🌹🌹

      • syl says:

Pepperidge farms? I have no idea what that means. But if you think I’m off base by all means show me how. I don’t see how they aren’t a strong union despite unsubstantiated rumours on a very few blogs but no where else. If I’m missing it, please let me know.

      • A says:

@syl, I mean…the fact that they’re out and about at Wimbledon and seemingly having a good time is par for the course, regardless of the state of anyone’s marriage, no? It’s not like they’re going to be out here having a screaming match in the royal box (one can only imagine). But you’re right in one way–I think they’re committed to their union, rumoured infidelity or not, and they’ll always be committed to it.

      • syl says:

Sure, there could have been hardships in their marriage in the past. Very few married people have been able to escape one hardship or another. It happens. If you’re lucky, and smart, you work through it, recognize what you have, and take it to the next level. That’s what the Cambridges seem to have done. They are surely far from perfect, but they love each other and are committed to making it work.

  26. noway says:

I am curious at what the articles are going to be like too. I mean you know they are going to do something if Andrew gets put into the Epstein crap further. I feel like that is a bigger deal than anything about Kate and William. I don’t understand royal pr much, but I personally don’t feel like KP has been the impetus or even a big part of the racist crap for Meghan. It just doesn’t make sense to me for them to go there. Now I do think they aren’t defending them. One cause that seems like the royal PR people’s m.o. Ignore all and it will go away, and two they don’t see how it benefits them to get involved.

I really don’t think Buckingham palace has anything to do with it. They are the ones with happy smiley PR, the Duchesses at Wimbledon, the date photo of W&K at Wimbledon, the cute kid picture outing, the Lion King outing. Seriously, they are so lucky all the kids are so freaking cute. Even, Archie who we haven’t seen much looked so adorable in those couple of pictures they let out. BP really is everything is great in royal land people. Still everything is great doesn’t sell very long so it could get dirty. Honestly if it gets dirty it should be against Andrew, but that probably won’t happen.

  27. eboni says:

    how do i comment

  28. kerwood says:

    They work?
