I’ve liked Harry Styles for a while. Ever since he dumped Taylor Swift, honestly. Remember that drama? It was good – he dumped her while they were on vacation together, and then she tried to real-estate stalk him, and then she devoted a big chunk of 1989 to him, and he still didn’t say one bad word against her publicly. It was a great way to handle all of it. In the years since, Harry went solo musically and he’s been trying his hand at acting. He had a smallish supporting role in Dunkirk, and now… this:
Former One Direction bandmember Harry Styles is in talks for Rob Marshall’s live action take on The Little Mermaid for Disney. Styles is eyeing the role of Prince Eric. Styles was one of the contenders to play Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s movie. He was waiting to see if he landed that role after testing for it, before committing to Little Mermaid.
I’m going to patiently sit here and wait for a ton of people to freak out about the fact that Prince Eric should be Danish. That was the argument against casting Halle Bailey as Ariel in The Little Mermaid, right? Because she isn’t DANISH. It’s not that she’s black! It’s that she’s not Danish and The Little Mermaid is all about Danish peeps and Danish mythology and… I’m going to be waiting for a while, right? No one is going to freak out that a British guy will probably play Prince Eric. But I imagine they’ll freak out once they realize that The Little Mermaid is now a fable about interracial romance?!?!? Sorry, that’s CANON now.

I’m actually disappointed by this pick. Another white, vanilla, relatively attractive guy with mediocre acting talent.
+1 I’m actually surprised he’d do this. I thought he was crying to get out of the teenage cookie cutter phase he had with One Direction.
He was quite good in Dunkirk. Held his own against Murphy, Hardy and Rylance.
My handsome, ripped Prince Eric is gonna be played by HIM? Nahhh. What a poor casting decision. Next.
Wow. What happened to him? He suddenly looks 10 years older.
I’m definitely not into this potential casting. I would prefer Shawn Mendes or someone unknown.
Um, Harry Styles is NOT vanilla lol Shawn Mendez and Charlie Puth are vanilla af. Harry’s choices post-1D have been really interesting and I think he will do a great job in the role. And his voice is heavenly, I mean come on.
Im down for this.
I’d have put Timothee Chalamet in the role.
I don’t mind. My 5-year-old self was enamored with Prince Eric’s floppy hair. Harry has great hair, so he checks the only box I need 😂
IMO, Harry Styles tries too hard to be edgy.. like he would be the guy to Google looks from The Rolling Stones or other old rockers and try to emulate them from their heydays. Anyway, I think this is lame casting. I might have picked that endearing brunette kid from the recent Netflix rom-com’s everyone was swooning over, Noah Centineo. It will still be a big box office hit, so whatever.
Please God no, anyone but Harry… why are people trying to so hard make him happen? Prince Eric is supposed to be a muscly Mediterranean hunk. Find an unknown that looks the part.
Awww I hope so! They’d look great together and, maybe it’s the first picture giving me prince vibes but, it looks appropriate lol.
Nah, bad pick for Eric. I love his music, but his acting is pretty forgettable. Prince Eric was such a crush for me growing up…the blue eyes! Halle Berry will be adorable though..I hope they keep the ruby red hair.
I love him. Agree with Danielle above.
With a black Ariel that gives up her voice for him… yikessssss. Why do we even need a live-action remake?
My pick for the role of Prince Eric in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, I’d pick musician Shawn Mendes. I think Mendes would be hands down the perfect choice for that role, as he’s got the looks for it. Disney would be smart to pick Mendes, and introduce him to a new audience.
The role of King Triton, fingers crossed that Liam Neeson gets picked for that role. I think would be another smart move for Disney.
Alternate pick for the role of Scuttle, I think James Corden would bring comedy gold to that role.
Chef Louie, I could see comedian and character actor Josh Gad in that role.
