Celine Dion: ‘I never really like to see myself as the queen… I’m the boss’

Lifetime's Summer Luau

Celine Dion got multiple covers for the September issue of CR Fashion Book, which is just Carine Rotifeld’s boutique fashion magazine. The covers aren’t anything to write home about, but I appreciate that Celine lives a big life and loves big fashion. That’s what the interview is about – Celine’s move from widowhood to fashionista. Just don’t call her a fashion queen – please, she’s the fashion BOSS. Some quotes:

She loves fashion shoots: “I honestly love photo shoots, and I love everything about art and making photo shoots. It was interesting to see myself in this distorted fish-eye [effect], where your head is bigger than your body or your body’s bigger than your head. One foot is a size twelve and the other is a size four. It’s very artistic.”

Don’t call her the “new queen of fashion.” “I never really like to see myself as the queen. I’m not playing queen, I don’t want to be the queen. I’m the boss. That’s different. I’m the mother, I’m the boss, I’m in charge of my decisions with my team. I try to make the best of myself, to accomplish something, to always put the bar as high as I can.”

What she seeks from fashion: What she does like to do with fashion is use it as a form of expression, saying she seeks clothes that make her “feel sexy, approachable, fierce, edgy, glamorous, fun…I’m crazy about clothes. They help me to express myself, as if borrowing characters to help me perform… They’re like songs. I don’t do ballads all the time; I have up-tempo songs as well. So I don’t want to wear gowns on stage all the time. Sometimes I want to be a little bit more edgy.”

How she dresses when she’s at home: “A lot of times, I will wear my PJs all day. I’m with my kids, and it will be breakfast all day. I would just rest and be in my pajamas. But sometimes I would wear my nicest gowns, like I would wear on a date. Or put my hair in a chignon, put on my beautiful jewelry, and just take a bath in the bathtub, and feel like I’m Liberace.”

What’s next for Celine (besides her new album): “The best is yet to come for me, so I wouldn’t say no to anything right now. There are so many projects, so many people are coming to me, which is very exciting.”

“I never really like to see myself as the queen. I’m not playing queen, I don’t want to be the queen. I’m the boss. That’s different.” I… love this? Too often, stan culture demands that we call our faves kings and queens (Queen B, Queen Serena, etc), but really… Celine is not a queen. She’s the motherf–king boss. She’s not on some dainty ass throne. She’s in charge of an empire worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Queens are beneath her! And yes, the biggest boss move is just wearing your best jewelry when you’re just hanging out at home and taking a bath. That’s amazing. Sometimes I do like to put on one of my bigger cocktail rings just to watch TV and play with the cats.

I am the last to concern troll but I’m worried about her. She looks stressed out and is getting far too thin. She really didn’t have any weight to lose at all so even a 5-10 loss on her and she will look skeletal.

I only wish the best for her.

I am happy that she took control of her life. She deserves to be very happy. I was never so sure about her late husband, so here we are.

Love her explanation. Stan culture puts artists on pedestals and their judgement is the end all be all. Celine is saying she’s the boss of her business (family and professional) and everyone can do what they please. Love her and her wackiness and basically she’s that phrase come to life…(insert noun/verb) but make it fashion “!!!!

I think she looks best with her hair loose and down. The pulled back pony tail is not a good look for her. I do wish her all the happiness in the world.
