Florence Pugh in Dries Van Noten at the BAFTAs: another bonkers look?

Florence Pugh at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards

For me, there haven’t been that many bright spots or fun moments during this year’s awards season, but Florence Pugh is trying to change that with some late entries to the Bonkers Fashion conversation. Florence is a small, short woman. She’s 24 years old and everything came together for her career over the past year or so with Little Women, Midsommer and the upcoming Black Widow movie. I don’t know if she’s working with a stylist and just not listening to them, or if she’s choosing this stuff because she loves it. But she’s having a ton of fun wearing really ridiculous clothes. Florence turned up to the BAFTAs in this crazy Dries Van Noten ensemble – it’s like a black minidress with a huge hot pink ruffled coat with a train? It’s insane.

Saoirse Ronan wore Gucci – this reminds me so strongly of Lady Gaga’s black satin Brandon Maxwell look from last year’s Oscars, remember? The cut of the two dresses isn’t the same, but the look and feel of the gowns are very similar. Anyway, I haven’t been too impressed with Ronan’s fashion this year, but this was a solid look. Meh.

Laura Dern in Valentino. Even though this is more of a pink-red, doesn’t it feel very Christmas-y? It gives me Big Christmas Party Energy. My nemesis won a BAFTA for Marriage Story and I CANNOT.

I hate how the cut of Laura Dern’s dress seems designed to show off her armpits of all things…

  2. Lucy says:

My opinion of the dress aside, I honestly cannot wait to see what Florence will wear at this year’s MET Gala.

  3. BANANIE says:

Saoirse is coming as close as humanly possible to pulling off the drop waist, but I 100% think that style is flattering on no one.

    • josephine says:

Totally agree, was coming to say the same thing. Not one person looks good with a dropped waist, let’s stop trying to bring it back around every ten years or so.

  4. Blerg says:

Florence’s clothes are wearing her. I just want all of them to wear their beautiful Little Women clothes forever, though, so my opinion is not to be trusted. I guess it’s fun that she’s having fun?

Flo is soooo over-exposed right now. Stay home for a night! As for her outfits, she needs to stay away from these micro-minis, they make her look super short. Her stylist done her dirty.

  5. Gabby says:

I would have liked Laura’s dress much more with a halter neck, the color is gorgeous.
France’s look might have worked, minus the ankle straps shoes, they just visually disrupt the look.
Saiorse looks meh, that hairstyle is awful. And if she’s wearing a boring black dress, accessorize girl. Put on some sparkly jewelry.

Of all the stunning dresses Dries Van Noten has to offer they picked that? He does the most gorgeous stuff with prints!

  7. CatWomen says:

The dress Florence is wearing looks very 17th century split down the middle and tied together and trimmed with black, the under dress in black should not get the focus. It’s really beautiful but you have to kind of stare at it and think about it. I love the color contrast.

    • fleur says:

solid analysis, I totally agree. She’s young enough and beautiful to get away with it. Also I’m built more like Florence and am working, working to appreciate my current curves (I love love them on Florence, why can’t I love them on myself??? Dang internalized misogyny…),. But I’m going to undermine my own efforts by saying- my gosh, what an incredible body saorise has. Gorgeous. I saw it and immediately thought-,oh my gosh, I want a body like that. Both are so beautiful for different reasons. (I’m just struggling to accept my own weight gain here. Do men have this issue? I’m trying to accept my curves, but I struggle)

I love it but daaaamn, Saoirse. Her earrings!!

  9. Claudia says:

HATE Florence’s dress, it’s not even fun to me, just ugly.
And sorry, but I love the nemesis’ dress – that colour, gorgeous!
