Regina King in Versace at the Oscars: phenomenal, one of the best dressed?

There were so many gorgeous metallic dresses last night and, dare I say, less fug dresses than we’re used to. Maybe I was thrown off by all the beautiful gowns but I think it was one of the best red carpets in years. Regina King was such a standout in a pink Versace with gorgeous lines of silver sequins. This is so striking and pretty and is my vote for best dressed. It fits her like a glove and I love the train. The back is so cool too, look at how the waist dips into the train. She’s wearing half a million in Harry Winston jewelry.

Cynthia Erivo was a vision in white in a crystal embellished Versace gown with one diagonal strap. This was a striking look for the red carpet and I love the drama of her gown, but her performance gown was even better! That gold performance gown was Vera Wang. Her jewelry is Piaget and her shoes are by Stuart Weitzman.

I’m throwing in Molly Sims here because this feels like a dress that has similar elements to Regina’s and should work but just doesn’t. It could be the combination of puffy sleeves, intricate beading, a deep v-neck and a complicated skirt. This is Zuhair Murad.

Rita Wilson was in Tom Ford. This is lovely but it just covers her head to toe. I would like it better if it was strapless or had a feature to add interest. Still, this is a great plus one dress. Rita and Tom are one of my favorite couples.

    Regina looked stunning

    • josephine says:

She always does. Her figure is amazing and she always lets her figure take center-stage. She is someone who always wears the crap out of her clothes. Gorgeous.

    • Betsy says:

Yes, ma’am. That dress is regal.

      • (TheOG)jan90067 says:

Definitely one of maybe 3 or 4 GORGEOUS dresses. And SHE wore it, not the other way around.

One thing I noticed… it looked like the big pink skirt COULD be detached and the silver sequined top part could be a column dress under (for a less cumbersome dress to wear to an after party…?). And if it isn’t, it should be!! What a great “two-fer” that’d be!

    • tealily says:

I agree. Best of the night!

    • minx says:

      OMG she looked amazing!

    • I agree, Regina’s gown was great and she wore it beautifully; but I hated her hairstyle.

  2. SarSte says:

Loved Regina’s. Amazing colour and interesting cut. Great styling. Not sure if others noticed, but I did feel like there was something ever so slightly off fit-wise around the hip area when she was in motion. You can kind of see where it’s been pulling in the photos. But may have just been the column style skirt with the weight of the giant peplums.

  3. Escondista says:

    Molly needed more bust support!!!!

  4. Scollins says:

    Regina’s helmet hair…

    • Blair Warner says:

Yes – the dress is a showstopper but her hair lets her down a bit.

Does Rita have something new she wants to tell us about … ?!

    • Cali says:

Exactly, that hair ruins the entire look! Molly needed support for the girls, Cynthia can’t seem to close her mouth so Rita for the win, she looks amazing❤️

  5. Sara says:

Regina’s makeup is not working for me. She is so absolutely flawless, but the foundation is clashing with her body tone.

    • Prettykrazee says:

I loved Reginas dress. I was distracted by her foundation undertone. It’s entirely too orange/red. I don’t get it. Normally her hair & makeup is flawless.

  6. Chantal says:

Regina King and Brad Pitt would make a handsome couple. I like their pictures at the oscar.

  7. Lucy2 says:

Regina’s dress is stunning! More so from the front and the back, but it looks fantastic on her. Definitely one of the best of the evening, and I agree there’s a lot of beautiful gowns this year. I really like Rita’s as well.

  8. Froggy says:

I like Regina and Scarlett’s dresses so far.

  9. Bella Mama says:

Regina was one of the best dressed fit me, as usual. She’s got a smokin’ hot body and knows how to dress

Erivo was a hard mess of a no as was Simms. I’m very much over plunging, t*ts out dresses

  10. Cerys says:

Regina King’s dress would have looked better as a straight dress without all the fuss at the sides and the back. Rita Wilson’s dress was nice but the other two – yuk! Money can’t buy taste.

  11. BW says:

Sabrina! The Sabrina dress is always flattering, when done right.

  12. HK9 says:

    I love Regina’s dress-the hair makeup jewellery is amazing. I wouldn’t change a thing.

  13. Sass says:

Regina was a favorite for me too. I saw Molly who for me is a bit of a has been (not unkindly, more like “why is she – and Mario Lopez – at the oscars?”) and I immediately thought “ah she’s one who’s stuck in early 00s fashion, very J Lo.” Cynthia is cool. Rita looks like she’s wearing some 70s polyester curtains.

  14. Scorpio ♏️ Rants says:

Loved Reginas dress …one if not the best of the night…oh the color and the back, PERFECTION………but hated her hair and her makeup was off.

Rita looked like she was an Oscar. Too Much monochrome Everywhere.

I liked Molly’s dress a lot and she looked lovely but …..yeah she needed some lift there.

    • SilentStar says:

Agreed about Regina. Could have used a bit more polish in the styling but the dress was incredible!

I think Cynthia looked like Marie Antoinette at an ice dancing competition.

Molly’s dress was lovely (love that peachy salmon color!) But I think it swallowed her up too much. I imagine it would have looked better on someone taller with really long legs.

  15. Jessica says:

Regina looked beautiful and that is a really lovely color.

  16. BearcatLawyer says:

I love Regina’s style, and last night’s dress was stunning. But more importantly, I have a good friend who has worked with her before, and he says she is an all-around lovely person who takes acting, writing, and directing very seriously. I feel like her inner beauty is always reflected in her outward appearance, which makes her even more beautiful.

  17. Catting says:

The back of Regina’s dress is even prettier than the front IMO, and that’s saying something! Mollie’s dress is lovely, too.

  18. Minnie says:

Regina looked amazing, definitely the best dressed. Elegant but not boring and her makeup was flawless. Cynthia’s dress was nice but when she was talking in the red carpet she was hunching in a way that made me think it was way too tight in the upper area. Her performance gown was stellar and she looked gorgeous.

  19. Bella says:

There were lots of lovely dresses and only two heinous ones– Kristin Wiig and Maya Randolph. Seriously WTF and I love love both of them.
