Do you think Scarlett Johansson knew she would lose in both Oscar categories? I think it became clear to her as the awards season progressed, and to her credit, that sort of loosened her up and she looked like she was having a lot of fun. Still, she dressed like she thought she might win something – this champagne Oscar de la Renta would have looked great with an Oscar! Alas, it didn’t happen. So instead she just had to fill her hands with her fiance Colin Jost. Also: ScarJo needed more jewelry. Other than her hilariously bad engagement ring!
Florence Pugh in Louis Vuitton. I weirdly loved this, I think because it was so refreshing to see this saturated teal color on the Oscars red carpet. So many women wore white, black, metallics, pink and beige-champagne, so the few women who went for rich greens and blues really stood out. While I’m no fan of mullet dresses or ruffled tiers, this works, right? I think it’s because Florence is so short, so it’s not like we were staring at five feet of ruffles. Everything looks proportional. The necklace (which is great) is Louis Vuitton Jewelry too.

Like everything else Scarletts worn this award season, it feels dated.
Florence looks very cute, but feels more wedding guest than Oscars.
Yes, it’s like a bridesmaid’s dress you’d see in a British rom-com. Gorgeous and whimsical, but odd at the same time. Not for the Oscars.
1999 called and they want their payless shoes back.
The shoes! Agreed, so very sea-foam green bridesmaids reminiscent.
the shoes are horrendous
she should have gone with a cool pointed toe pink stiletto, to match the necklace gem
I really like Florence’s dress – she looks like fun! I don’t care for Scarlett’s style and this look is no exception
I wore a prom dress in the 1980’s that looked just like this, minus the mullet.
I know, I had a flashback to late 80s/early 90s dances.
ScarJo bothers me SO much! I dislike her immensely.
However, I thought she looked lovely last night.
Me too! She just grinds my gears.
Me too. And I used to like her as an actress, but in recent years she has really bugged me with a lot of stuff she’s said.
She did look good though, but as always that color tattoo on her arm distracted me from the gown.
She’s dim and ignorant, hard to like her acting or dress choices.
I hate that hairstyle on Florence
Her shoes match her dress, and I didn’t realize she was so short. Her hair is the least of her problems here 😬.
Oh I loved Florence’s dress. So pretty and vibrant. ScarJo, meh.
I quite like Scarjo’s look. She probably won’t be wearing that engagement ring that long…
Do you think? I was wondering if there’s a different sort of announcement coming. I know she’s naturally curvaceous, and satin’s no one’s friend in terms of cling, but she looks a wee bit pregnant to me.
I just think that her third marriage won’t be her last. They will get married, maybe have a child, and then it two years or so it’s over.
Oh, I don’t doubt it. She seems very much a serial monogamist and while I don’t have the hate for Jost that some do (he used to live in the same building as a friend of mine and was apparently very nice and polite to her mother, who still raves about it), I can’t see him actually being a person who could interest anyone forever. But I think this one will take for a few years.
It looks like an egg on a branch. Which is an interesting concept in a ring, but not really a great engagement ring, imo.
I read this elsewhere but Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson look like wax figures in that third shot.
I don’t like her, but I did love her look. Her makeup was beautiful too.
I love the raw stone engagement ring!! Why don’t you guys like it? It’s so cool and natural and kind of punk!
I love the ring too! The color of the stone isn’t necessarily my favorite but I appreciate the design. Traditional rings and jewelry aren’t my thing. I don’t want to wear what everyone else is wearing, so I always buy jewelry from independent artists when I can afford it.
It’s def not a raw diamond. It’s a faceted 11 carat stone. To me the concept is cool but it’s sooooo huge – idk. It looks precarious.
Here’s a better view

I quite like it, but then I feel some sort of moral obligation to be positive towards anyone’s engagement ring. And I’m not exactly a basket of non-critical rainbows. It always just feels sh*tty to express any negative opinion about that one piece of jewelry, maybe it means something to the couple, maybe it involves heirloom pieces, etc.
Well said.
ScarJo looks like she was fitted for the dress, then realized she wouldn’t win and stopped her pre-Oscars crash diet. She still looks fantastic; the fit just looks uncomfortably snug all over.
Florence Pugh is too much teal, too much matchy for my tastes. But she is young enough for a fun look, so what do I know!
she looks like she’s in early pregnancy to me
I like the color of Florence’s dress, but not the dress itself
Scarjo looks ok. The top is interesting butter not a fan of satin
Scarlett looked lovely and her JoJo Rabbit performance deserved to win over Laura Dern’s performance.
I loved Florence’s dress.
I’m so glad Scarlett didn’t win anything, lol.
once she was nomminated in both categories they guaranteed she wouldn’t win either.
@casey please explain…im interested in your insight
Obviously when someone is nominated twice in the same category it makes a win hard, because it can split the vote.
But even when an actor is nominated in two different categories (like acting/supporting or acting/directing), anonymous voters in the past have said they worried about voting for that person in either category because they may end up winning both and getting “backlash”. So usually you’ll see early in the award season, if one of the two performances is really getting attention then that will continue through because people know which one to vote for.
It’s like weird mental gymnastics. Clooney sort of made reference to it when he won for, I think Syriana? the year when he was nominated for directing as well.
I really WANT to love Florence’s look. Like, I see everything you pointed out about it, but I’m not quite there just yet.
The dress was OK but it made her backside look too big. She did look lovely. I haven’t seen Jo Jo Rabbit but I thought the snippet her performance was excellent.
I often think that actors vote too often for awards for things that touch them personally, especially child custody and divorce. (I do think Laura is a good actress.)
Scarlett’s dress is entirely the wrong colour for her. Florence’s is lovely, but not an Oscar’s dress.
I loved Scarlett’s dress, one of my favorites of the night. The beading would swing and sparkle, photos didn’t do it justice.
I agree; the dress looked beautiful in motion!
I wish scarjo’s dress was unapologetically gold. It’s beautiful on her, but the beige isn’t doing it for me.
My main feeling during this entire awards season was that as long as ScarJo didnt win I’d be satisfied. And I am. Her dress was actually really pretty but she needed a necklace. Something similar to what Florence wore would have looked great with that dress.
Scarlett looked great. The dress fit her to perfection.
I have a strong and irrational dislike for ScarJo’s dress. I don’t except that it feels dated and messy even though it’s super (too?) fitted.
See I dislike it so much that I can’t speak english anymore….
Coz’, I love this comment so much that I think I love you!
<3
Scarjo looked fab and frankly any dissenters need to go to the opticians.
As we say in French “les goûts et les couleurs…”
That colour looks lovely on Florence but the pattern is horrible. Scarlett’s VF after party dress was much better than her Oscar gown.
I really like both these looks. I don’t think I’d be in to Pugh’s dress on anyone else, but on her it just looks fun, young, and classy.
The only thing I like about Pugh’s look is the necklace. I think the rest is a disaster. I do like ScarJo’s look – I’m not a fan of her at all and am very glad she didn’t win, but I do think she looks great here.
Scarlett looked great. And for once so did Florence.
I think Scarlett’s dress is boring. It looks almost like the “dress” Ariel throws on when Eric finds her washed up on shore, right after she traded her voice for her legs.
Florence’s dress is very pretty, way better than the monstrosity she wore to the BAFTAs.
Too beige????
Is that really the way to talk about her fiance. 😉
Ugh Jost always looks like he’s afraid someone will notice he isn’t supposed to be there and kick him out.
He looks really terrified and simultaneously frozen
I actually think it is an improvement as compared to what Scarlet chooses to wear and considering red carpet was a snooze this year. That ring is fug though
I’m just SO BORED with Scarlett’s style. I feel like we’ve seen her in something just like this dozens of times?
Completely understand finding your comfort zone and sticking with it– and her figure looks admittedly fantastic– but she’s the only celeb I can think of who makes “bombshell” look totally boring.
If I had and looked like Scarlet in that dress I’d wear it to Target!
Love the way Colin looks at her, almost like he can’t believe she loves him.
I can’t believe it either. He looks like Sean Astin.
I do not get the Scarlett hate. i always dug her since the ghost world days/ Lost in Translation, and she’s beautiful. Florence’s necklace is cool af.
My god, FP looks incredible. I don’t like any of the separate parts normally (teal, ruffles, mullet dress, that satiny textile) but all together that is perfection. She is wearing the hell out of it, too, and not the other way around. Thundering golf clap to her stylist.
I also adore SJ’s dress. Which is itself the jewels. More bling would be gaudy and distracting and make her look cheap, so no. She is also perfectly styled as is. I’m speechless with how stunning and thoughtful both looks are on this page.
