‘Germaphobe’ Donald Trump is ‘definitely melting down’ over the coronavirus

Trump signs coronavirus supplemental funding bill at White House

It’s really BAD here in America. America is the Bad Place. This country has been rotten for a while, basically ever since Donald Trump revealed the dark, fascist, racist underbelly and then the underbelly became the white supremacist face of the nation. After three-plus years of the Trump Show, no one believes anything said from any government official and no one did jack squat to check Trump’s treasonous shenanigans because “the economy is doing well.” This week, the stock market nosedived 2000-plus points (although international markets seem to be stabilizing today), mostly based on oil fears and the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus. This will not get better. Trump will not stop screwing up about the coronavirus. Gabriel Sherman at Vanity Fair had a stark reminder of just how bad it is IN the White House.

He thinks the ‘rona is a PR war: “He is trying to control the narrative and he can’t,” a former West Wing official told me. The problem is that the crisis fits into his preexisting and deeply held worldview—that the media is always searching for a story to bring him down. Covid-19 is merely the latest instance, and he’s reacting in familiar ways. “So much FAKE NEWS!” Trump tweeted this morning. “He wants Justice to open investigations of the media for market manipulation,” a source close to the White House told me.

OMG did this really happen? Trump’s press conference on Friday at the CDC was a Trumpian classic, heavy on braggadocio and almost entirely lacking a sense of the seriousness of the crisis. “I like this stuff. I really get it,” Trump told reporters, his face partly hidden under a red “Keep America Great” hat. “People are surprised that I understand it. Every one of these doctors say, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should’ve done that instead of running for president.” At another point Trump compared the situation to the Ukraine shakedown. “The [coronavirus] tests are all perfect. Like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect,” he said.

Trump is starting to understand that he’s an idiot? But one person who spoke to the president over the weekend saw the press conference as an ominous sign. “He’s just now waking up to the fact that this is bad, and he doesn’t know how to respond.”

He’s terrified about getting the ‘rona too: As Trump pushes a nothing-to-see-here message in public, sources said he’s privately terrified about getting the virus. “Donald is a famous germaphobe. He hates it if someone is eating nachos and dips a chip back in after taking a bite. He calls them ‘double dippers,’” a prominent Republican said. Former Trump aide Sam Nunberg recalled Trump’s response to the last major outbreak in 2014. “When I worked for Trump, he was obsessed with Ebola,” Nunberg told me.

This conspiracy theory, OMG: Stories about Trump’s coronavirus fears have spread through the White House. Last week Trump told aides he’s afraid journalists will try to purposefully contract coronavirus to give it to him on Air Force One, a person close to the administration told me. The source also said Trump has asked the Secret Service to set up a screening program and bar anyone who has a cough from the White House grounds. “He’s definitely melting down over this,” the source said.

He won’t stop throwing Nazi rallies for himself either: But thus far Trump’s private concerns haven’t affected his public response. Pressure from the public health community is mounting on Trump to cancel his mass rallies, but Trump is pushing back. “He is going to resist until the very last minute,” a former West Wing official said. “He may take suggestions to stop shaking hands, but in terms of shutting stuff down, his position is: ‘No, I’m not going to do it.’”

[From Vanity Fair]

Reader, I laughed. I laughed to keep from crying. I’ve actually been avoiding the f–k out of the national news and cable news because I know it will be full of this kind of crap, just an endless litany of lies from Trump and Trump’s people. But now at least I know that Trump wants to ban coughers from the White House and that he thinks a journalist will PURPOSEFULLY get coronavirus just to infect him. OMG. Also: Trump and Pence have been exposed at this point, right? There have been people around them, flying on Air Force One and attending their rallies or meetings, and those people are now in quarantine. Mess.

The only thing that I will ever say in Trump’s defense, double dipping is something that should not happen with a shared bowl. Not the sign of a germophobe! I’ll buy all the rest of it though. Stopping his ridiculous rallies would seem like a good idea.

    • Millennial says:

I was just gonna say, being grossed out by double dipping doesn’t make a person a germaphobe, that’s just basic common sense!

That said, after all the cheating scandals, Trump is a selective germaphobe, at best.

      • Alissa says:

double dipping when you’re sharing something with someone is gross. I’m not sure how you would double dip with nachos though? you don’t dip nachos in anything?

      • Betsy says:

@Alissa – hockey nachos, I think, with the orange cheese dip.

      • FHMom says:

Double dipping is disgusting. Nobody can argue otherwise.

      • Erinn says:

Do other people not dip nachos in stuff? I dip nachos in sour cream and salsa. Typically we’ll cook them up with chips, veggies, sometimes meat, and cheese, layer it all up and stick it in the oven to melt the cheese and warm up the chips, and then have salsa and sour cream on the side of the plate. But if you’re sharing them at a restaurant or something, usually they’ll bring out a big tray of them and a couple of tiny dishes of salsa / sour cream that are shared, at least where I live.

    • Hollz says:

Alice – Salsa, sour cream, guacamole ?

    • Wifaaa says:

      Same. Not cool.

This is also literally the only thing you will ever find me agreeing with Trump on.

    • Jerusha says:

Yeah, Seinfeld did an episode about double dipping. George did it.

    • whatWHAT? says:

yeah, the only person I tolerate the double dip with is the BF. we share germs WAY MORE frequently than that situation, so NBD.

Romney is probably THRILLED that he was disinvited from CPAC. only Republican not exposed. lol

    • Becks1 says:

I laughed at that part because its like, “Trump calls it double dipping.” No you dumbass, everyone calls it that!!! And it is gross.

      • Tuntmore says:

@becks1 – that’s what killed me, too! Now Trump is claiming ownership of the phrase “double dipping.”

For all these years, no one knew that all of “Seinfeld”’s best jokes were actually written by one Donald J. Trump, using the pseudonym “Larry David.”

      • GreenTurtle says:

If Trump tells a story about yelling at someone for eating an eclair that was sitting on top of the trash, we’ll know where that came from, as well! Lol.

    • isadora says:

I don’t think he’s an obsessive germaphobe. At least it’s more average at best. That rant he did where, i think, Mick Mulvaney was coughing uncontrollably during an interview with Twitler was i feel more that it stole his spotlight rather than a germaphob reaction.
He is a narcissist after all and everything and anything has to be about him. No empathy , no compassion, racist AF. That’s certainly not the kind person you want to lead the country. So vote him out come november. And also the rest of his goons who enabled him in the first place.

  2. original_kellybean says:

Is it wrong that I hope he gets it and his immune system is too weak and he perishes?

    • Lala18 says:

      delete.

    • Bookie says:

      Nope. Not wrong.

      • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

I got booted off Twitter for the last 12 hrs. because I tweeted “would it be too much to ask for that the Karma Bus backs up?” in response to someone else’s tweet that it seemed to have missed him.

    • Giddy says:

      *whispering* oh please, please, please.

    • Suze says:

As I said to my sister when discussing this – I’m not rooting for the virus, but I’m not NOT rooting for the virus either.

    • 10KTurtle says:

Don’t get your hopes up- the surgeon general assures us Donald is super healthy because he… doesn’t sleep? Whaaa?

    • Case says:

I would never wish bad health on anyone, but SAME. Same same same.

    • Rene Besette says:

      bwaha ha ha good one

    • Amelie says:

I think we’ve all had these thoughts at one point or another.

    • Aimee says:

Um, I’ve been trying not to say it in my head cause I know it’s wrong (and I’m afraid of karma) but thank you for saying it for me. lol

      • Tuntmore says:

I don’t believe in karma (don’t get me wrong, it would be nice, but the universe is cold and unfeeling and doesn’t give a crap about balancing the actions of beings on a tiny little planet) so I’ll happily say it.

The older I get, the less tolerance I have for people who are detrimental wastes of oxygen, who hurt people and encourage hate and fear. I don’t feel one iota of guilt for wishing horrible things on people like that. There’s nothing wrong or inhumane about wishing society didn’t have to deal with these destructive forces.

  3. heygingersnaps says:

I hope dump will ignore any and all medical and scientific advice regarding coronavirus-19.
I hope he and mother continue to have rallies.
If there’s any good that may come out of covid-19 is for dump, mother and their ilk to get it.

    • AnnaKist says:

It’ll be interesting see just what advice he takes on this, considering that only the other day, he claimed to (also) be “an expert on science”… I would have expected that since he’s so expert in science, he would have a far better understanding than the average punter on what is known so far about this virus, and that he would use his knowledge to convey a message of rationality and calmed the panic-stricken, while working with world health experts to get the best outcomes for the most people, and get this sorted as quickly as possible. Oh, schitt, what am I saying…? This s trump, MegaMAGgot…

And double-dipping is NEVER ok. Ever. People who double-dip are grubs.

  4. Rapunzel says:

He knows the economy is the only thing he has going for him and this could tank it. He’s thus intentionally downplaying it. I’m so disgusted.

And for a germaphobe, you think he’d get tested, but he’s not. Reporters are more at risk from him than he is from them!

    • Esmom says:

Not only is he intentionally downplaying it, his supporters are doing the same and it’s making me crazy. On my parent FB page for one of my college kids, this one lady keeps posting Fox-approved talking points about how there’s nothing to worry about, that the flue is worse, blah, blah blah. And some people support her. I usually never comment on that page but she pushed me over the edge and I posted a link to the CDC guidelines that the university provided, to try to counter the Fox “advice” she was trying to push.

Meanwhile the university is preparing to take all classes online and possibly send students home so the mixed messages are infuriating.

  5. aquarius64 says:

Trump is not crying hoax now. His pea brain finally realizes COVID-19 could get him evicted from the White House in November. And Americans have the right to know if Trump has been tested or exposed. (To date he has not been tested). The press conference has not only staff and doctors but VP Pence and some of his Cabinet. The VP and Cabinet members are part of the U.S. presidential succession. Here’s the current order

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_line_of_succession

Look who is 2nd in line to the Oval Office. This I believe why the Trump White House will never come clean if Trump did have exposure. Leadership is needed at this time not politics.

    • ChillyWilly says:

I don’t believe he hasn’t been tested. He probably gets tested twice a day while others have to fight for a test. This outbreak has been so badly botched. Covid-19 is running rampant at this point. It’s too late.

      • lucy2 says:

I don’t either. FOR SURE they tested him as soon as the CPAC news came out.
They lie ALL THE TIME, there’s no chance they’re being truthful on any of this.

      • Donn says:

I know. Plus he was just at the CDC. He’s the president. Why not?

      • GreenTurtle says:

That’s a lot of lollipops for poor liddle Donny getting pricked with the big, ole mean needle so many times!

  6. Jan says:

Please please let trump get the virus….any and all viruses!

  7. Ann says:

He is just really too ugly to look at. Revolting.

  8. Mireille says:

Gaetz is getting all sorts of hate and mockery on Twitter after he announced that he self-quarantined — including from me, calling him out for being an idiotic douche for his unsympathetic stance on the virus. I wonder how fast he called up his doctor. I also wonder how EASY it was for him to get access to a test when the rest of the country is still waiting for testing kits. Moronic punk. That aside, sending all my positive thoughts to everyone else all over the world who have been affected. I live in New York City — we’ve been hit hard and there is some panic but for the most part, people are just taking it in stride and doing what we can. On a side note, I see that Mayor De Blasio and Governor Cuomo are actually cooperating and working together, considering they both hate each other.

    • Swack says:

It’s karma that Gaetz was exposed after he wore the gas mask on the House floor when voting on the aid package to help fight the coronavirus.

      • Esmom says:

It would be funny if it wasn’t so terrifying that people actually chose to elect Gaetz into office. My favorite nickname for him is the Human Frat Paddle, lol.

      • Erinn says:

        Esmom, I love that nickname!

      • GreenTurtle says:

That’s some swift karma for Fratty Matty, all right. Someone on Twitter said he looks like the bad guy from every 80s high school movie, which made me laugh so hard. #MattGaetzIsAQuarantinedTool was trending big time earlier today on Twitter.

    • Meghan says:

I’m home sick from work with what I think is a sinus infection but my lungs are burning. As far as I know, I’ve not come into contact with anyone with Covid-19. I can’t even get an appointment with my doctor for 2 days. I could go to urgent care or the ER but I don’t feel THAT bad, yet. And actually in January I had these same symptoms but the doctor said my lungs were great.

      • Mireille says:

I’m sorry that you’re feeling sick. It’s definitely scary to think that with all this talk of Covid-19 whenever we sneeze or cough, our anxiety levels shoot right up and we start thinking the worst. A very good friend of mine with a compromised immune system went straight to the doctor when she experienced a sore throat and cough. Turned out to be allergies. Just my suggestion: if you are really worried and anxious and don’t want to wait two days to see the doctor, then go to urgent care or ER. It may put your mind at ease.

      • lizzieb says:

Do you have access to virtual medical care? It may save you a trip to the ER.

      • Meghan says:

I was actually able to get in to see my doctor today! Waiting on the official report but the nurse said everyone in that waiting room has a mixture of the Covid-19 symptoms and no one has it. They’ve done a chest x-ray and strep test on me. Though my lungs sound good when they listen to them. THEN WHY ARE THEY BURNING?!

I’m so glad they had a cancellation because I didn’t feel like I was, personally, at the urgent care or ER level but I am concerned with those around me who could get whatever junk this is. I bet it is another stupid sinus infection!

      • Lilo says:

I’m sorry you’re not feeling well @Meghan! If you’re in the Seattle area, go to the UW’s drive thru testing center. They’re doing a great job picking up the ball the CDC and administration have dropped.

      • Nibbi says:

Uhhh actually the guidelines I’ve seen in media from three different countries says that if you have real symptoms & worries, to first call your doctor, then the health services so that they can come to you adequately prepared for protection, rather than heading straight out and potentially spreading the germ to all the people in the waiting rooms of hospitals & doctors’ offices.

  9. Ravensdaughter says:

IMO, his presidency is done because of the way the administration is handling COVID-19 paired with the fact that “his” economy is in freefall.

    • BlueSky says:

I think so too. Of course that hasn’t stopped the conspiracy theories about how this is all being done on purpose to hurt Trump. The somersaults people do for this man is astounding.

      • Christin says:

And Italy is clearly in on the game, right? I suppose China put their own economy at risk as well, just to impact one guy’s election prospects.

      • Naomipaige99 says:

Yes, I think you’re right . Somehow, they are going to blame the Democratic for this!

      • 10KTurtle says:

Okay then I say COVID-19 was created by the Trump spawn to generate an excuse to bail out their hotels with even more US taxpayer money. There- it’s on the internet now so it must be true.

      • Kelly says:

OMG. I thought I only knew a couple loonies. I have, too, read people claim all of this coronavirus craze is just a conspiracy to hurt Trump. Thousands of people have died and the whole world is in alert and you think it’s all about Trump?! What’s next? Global warming is a leftist conspiracy too? Are they saying that already?

      • Thea says:

They think it’s a democratic hoax. And the dems are so good they got China, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Iran, etc in on it too. Heck, they even got ted Cruz to self-quarantine. The dems are that good.

    • holly hobby says:

Plus his constituents and followers are the most vulnerable targets for this virus.

  10. Scal says:

Like I said yesterday-it’s all about the economy for him. And his playbook of tweeting, threatining, gas lighting and maga talking points won’t work here. You can’t tweet at a virus. Not being able to control a narrative the way he wants is driving him crazy.

He doesn’t know how to step up and lead. He only knows how to fake being a victim and attack.

  11. 10KTurtle says:

I’m honestly surprised he hasn’t already started referring to the virus as “liddle’ virus” or “cryin’ corona” or “STUPID-19” to try to bully it into submission yet. And can the media please stop referring to a person who has unprotected sex with random encounters as a germophobe?

  12. Lightpurple says:

This morning, he’s busily retweeting ignoramus Charlie Kirk’s tweets about stopping “Chinavirus” by finishing the Mexican border wall because, in Kirk’s learned view, and apparently Trump’s, the virus is spreading through the US because infected Chinese people are entering the US illegally across our southern border. That must come as a shock to the Rhode Islanders suffering from it because their kids went to Italy.

    • TheOtherSarah says:

Their commitment to racism and xenophobia, under any circumstances, is admirable.

    • Esmom says:

I know it’s been stated ad nauseum but the POTUS tweeting with zero compassion for (or even comprehension of) his constituents’ concerns while the rest of the country tries to brace for a pandemic is just infuriating and disgusting.

    • holly hobby says:

That f-=-=r McCarthy is saying the same crap. Who is electing these people? They suck.

    • GreenTurtle says:

My brain just exploded. What the f?

  13. FHMom says:

I choked from laughing when I heard about the idiot on Air Force 1. What goes around, comes around. I’m not wishing ill health on anyone, not even Trump, but perhaps a does of reality would be in order.

    • Christin says:

Several were exposed, allegedly via someone who attended their little conservative convention. The infected person bought an upgraded ticket to meet and greet some of the party “stars”.

    • GreenTurtle says:

You just know Fratty Matty Gaetz had his head lodged firmly up Donny Two Scoops’s rectum during that entire flight on Air Force One.

  14. TheOtherSarah says:

I hope he gets it and [redacted]. Sorry not sorry.

  15. lee says:

    You can’t gaslight a virus.

    • ClaireB says:

That’s not going to stop him (and his followers) from trying!

    • Lara says:

      This.

I think ever since he was acquitted, the power trip has gone to his head on whole new level. I think it made him believe he is invincible- that nothing can stop him and he could truly start to transform the government into the dictatorship he’s always wanted.

Then at the height of his victory when he would be rubbing in everyone’s faces how he was right, firing everyone in the DOJ, this thing explodes out of nowhere, tanking markets, causing widespread fear and distrust, disrupting travel and global trade, isolating countries when they should be working in concert, etc. So much disinformation spread by his administration and his fucking twitter account, no one able to evaluate and decide for themselves the accuracy of what the administration is saying- everything is met with one of two reactions: complete distrust or total faith. The taint of our trained reactions to the media now extends to institutions like the CDC and WHO.

There are two things narcissists hate- humiliation and situations they cannot control. Democracy is an abstract concept. Death is not.

  16. Insomniac says:

That’s the thing about viruses: They don’t care if you believe in them or not.

  17. Allergy says:

    Gaetz is loathsome.
The only good thing about Dumpster is that a lot of people have now shown their true colors.

  18. Christin says:

His own grandfather reportedly died during the 1918 flu epidemic. The man felt ill and died within hours, which was apparently a common occurrence. Yet grandson said days ago that he didn’t realize that people die from flu!

It amazes me how flippant some people are when it comes to colds, flu, etc. if this crisis causes some of them to rethink their own habits and attitudes, then that would be a small gain. Some of my co-workers seem to understand the risks, but others are downplaying it (a la Fox) and still planning their international travel. After all, tickets are super cheap, y’all! (Sarcasm.)

  19. KellyRyan says:

I’m avoiding Drumpf, tweets, comments, most anything in the news cycle. My sanity depends on it. 🙂 He does not relate to reality, always desperate and the more he attempts control, the greater his failure. The economy? Has he blamed Obama or the Dems yet?

  20. Sean says:

A Trumper told me yesterday they don’t get what the big deal is. According to this person, the Coronavirus is no worse than the flu and this person isn’t even in the demographic that’s most vulnerable so why worry?

Also, this person was concerned about Joe Biden becoming the democratic candidate. They think Biden shows obvious signs of dementia and isn’t fit for office.

    SMDH these people….

    • lucy says:

You must know the same person I know…literally told me the same thing about the virus and posted how he is not saying this as a Trumper but as someone who has seen (with his father) – Biden is showing signs of dementia and how can dems nominate him? He’ll never make it through the debates against Trump, especially because Trump is so good at them!

  21. Naomipaige99 says:

Somehow, DUMP is going to blame the Democratic for the Coronavirus.

    • holly hobby says:

He already blamed Obama and the last time I checked, Barry doesn’t work for us anymore.

  22. Emily says:

How big a narcissist does a person have to be to believe hundreds of millions of people in Italy and China are in full lock down because of him. How big a narcissist does a person have to be to put his re-election campaign and personal monetary gain above the lives of his country’s citizens. Trump is not well, mentally.

As a Canadian, I’ve been shocked how many Americans on Twitter don’t want the COVID-19 test to be free. They hate universal health care that much. To me, it’s a no brainer in helping stop the spread.

    • lizzieb says:

Wow. Just wow. So someone spreads the virus because they could not afford the test. The virus will still come after the rich/insured person. The stupidity is mind boggling

  23. Kate says:

There is some kind of poetic justice that the man who built his base by continually stoking fear is now finally suffering the consequences of rampant fear that he cannot control.

  24. Jerusha says:

Search for the disgusting trump/pence campaign letter being sent out. Tried to post it here, but not allowed to.

  25. MellyMel says:

For someone that’s such a germaphobe, you would think he would stop shaking hands and being around big crowds. But if you think it’s all a hoax, I guess you can move around without a care in the world. I’m convinced he has it and is just not showing symptoms. Also Gaetz now being under quarantine is straight up KARMA lol!

  26. nicegirl says:

What’s that word you taught me about, Kaiser? Or it was maybe Celebitchy, with her German experiences? Schadenfreude ?

    • Erinn says:

Schadenfreude definitely works here. That’s one of my favorite words from… any language really haha.

  27. Leah says:

He’s just disappointed that Covid-19 can’t be bought off, threatened or tempted with cold Big Macs. It’s coming for him and his entire cabinet of swamp creatures. Pence can try to pray it away but Pence is huge about touching his own face. I am just thinking of the average age of the senate members who voted not to remove him, none of them are spring chickens. His idiot followers will continue to gather for rallies, and in full denial of the impact of Covid-19. Thoughts, prayers and an eye roll. Oh well.

So no Trump, this virus doesn’t care how much money you have, or if you live in a big White House that doesn’t rightfully belong to you. It doesn’t care about walls or even doors for that matter. Hey, it might already be there waiting in the Lincoln bedroom. Boo!

    • Sean says:

Watching Trump panic because his normal gaslighting isn’t working because the Coronavirus isn’t human reminds me of a quote from The Terminator:

Listen and understand. That Terminator is out there. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity or remorse or fear.

  28. Eyfalia says:

Cat owners or keepers know that cats can have the coronavirus. I don’t know if their coronavirus is the same or related to the covid-19-virus. The coronavirus in cats makes diarrhea for the cat. If the cat has a lot of stress and a weak immunesystem this coronavirus can mutate and then it causes FIP. Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is the name given to an uncommon, but usually fatal, aberrant immune response to infection with feline coronavirus (FCoV).
Since I had a cat who was a chronic carrier of the feline coronavirus, maybe I have antibodies who will fight the ‘rona! Let’s keep the fingers crossed.
If I get this virus, I will not survive, since I am in a high risk group, for several reasons.

Please make sure that people close to you who are 60 years and older have their shots against pneumococci. That will make it harder for the ‘rona.

Since it is said that chicken soup is fairly helpful if you have the flu, I recommend to cook chicken soup or broth. If it doesn’t help, it tastes good.

    • Leah says:

I just googled pneumococci + Covid-19 and the first has no impact on the second. If you check the WHO site, they have a page called “myth busters” where they talk about that vaccine and contact with domesticated pets.

      • Eyfalia says:

No, the pneumococci will have no effect on the covid-19, but if you have the pneumococci, as many people over 60 have, and you get the covid-19, the pneumococci will also start and this double take will be very harmful.

  29. moo says:

Fox news host Trish Regan did a bit on how “coronavirus” is a hoax by Democrats to damage the economy. People I know will listen to her. Sigh.

  30. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

I hope someone sneezes on him.

  31. Blue says:

Gaetz, the GOPer who wore a gas mask to Congress to make fun of the hysteria, right? Then a resident from his district died from the virus. What. A. Prick!

  32. Louise says:

    He’s a germaphobe..huh…rawdogging a porn actress, yup total germaphobe😆

  33. Faye G says:

This is like a dystopian movie, it doesn’t even feel like real life. My city is already pretty much shut down, I’m pretty much resigned to staying home and accepting whatever happens at this point. The silver lining is trumps chances of reelection are not looking good, especially with economy in the toilet. If Biden and Bernie can just keep themselves alive through the election, I think they have a chance

It’ll be interesting to see who the first celebrity with coronavirus will be. It’ll be a big story when it happens.

From what I read about the infected convention GOPer, he met a lot of the GOPer stars:

    Cruz
    DUI Gaetz
    Wetsy Betsy
    Kellyanne
    Collins
    Gohmert
    that dentist
    Pence and
    Anus himself
