Donald Trump on the lack of corona tests: ‘I don’t take responsibility at all’

President Donald J. Trump holds a Coronavirus news conference

I am often legitimately jealous of British slang and obscenities. Calling people a “bell-end” in America will be met with a lot of blank looks. But it’s a good slam. And Donald Trump is a bell-end. Massively. He’s also a liar, a crook, a moron, a misogynist, a white supremacist, a nativist, a white nationalist, a Nazi, a sexual assailant, a spineless creep, a traitor, a monster, and an all-around disgusting person. Trump is more worried about the stock market than people who might die (and are already suffering) from the coronavirus. He has not put two and two together and realized that if he showed bare-bones competence and leadership during a massive international crisis, the markets might calm down. Instead, he’s trying to stunt-queen his way into an economic recovery or something?

He did a press conference with CEOs on Friday, timed particularly to give the market a boost just before the closing bell. It worked because investors don’t care about what he was actually saying. In between blatant lies about testing availability and an overdue declaration of a national state of emergency, Trump took a moment to call a female reporter’s question “nasty” and then refused to take responsibility for his own unhinged, lackadaisical approach to a public health catastrophe. This reporter is PBS’s Yamiche Alcindor.

Shortly after that, NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Trump again about the lack of availability of corona tests and whether he takes responsibility for the failures of this administration. His response? “No, I don’t take responsibility at all…”

The whole answer is just… kind of stupid-funny because he doesn’t even have the balls to go up there and say out loud during a news conference, even though he’s itching to just spit it out: “IT’S OBAMA’S FAULT.” He’s been blaming Obama in tweets and in round-about ways, but he’s too f–king weak and pathetic to go all-in on that particular lie. Trump gutted his administration’s pandemic-response team. He refused to appoint new people. Obama understood that a pandemic could happen and he put people and plans in place. And it’s just pathetic to see this grown-ass fruit loop of a man completely abdicate responsibility. He’s just so weak.

Also, it seems like the reporters finally convinced Trump to get tested. This, after he has been exposed to several corona-positive people over the past week. Last night, the White House doctor came out and said Trump tested negative. Horsesh-t.

Thank God he is tested negative. I don’t want Trump to die and become a martyr.

We need to destroy him and the Republicans in November by voting them out. Then arrest the bunch on national live tv.

As for the “I don’t take responsibility” line, well the ads just writes themselves, don’t they?

Bloomberg, do your magic with this line…

    • Who ARE These People says:

Martyrdom would be due to an act of violence not succumbing to an illness. November is a long way off.

      • Sierra says:

Unfortunately I can see his supporters turn this into a martyrdom if he catches it and dies.

November is a long way and I don’t know how much more people can take.

      • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

Not just a long way off… but we will be well into a NEW flu season, STILL w/out any vaccine for this. Who’s to say he (or Miller/Bannon and the rest of them) won’t pounce on this as an excuse to cancel voting? I don’t think there is enough in place to do mass mailing of ballots to millions of us; that will also have them crying fraud.

      • Mac says:

Only Congress has the power to postpone a presidential election. Ballots are produced by states and their are several states that vote by mail. Call your state reps and ask them what election contingency plans are being put into place.

      • Jaxonmeh says:

No. I don’t want him dying of natural illnesses. The conspiracy theories would be insane.

    • Jerusha says:

I don’t care if he has an aneurysm while taking a dump. He can do untold damage in ten months. He needs to be gone.

      • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

        👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I’ll second this!

      • Bettyrose says:

I truly believe wishing death on someone is wrong…but wishing him gone..by death or otherwise…is about protecting humanity. He has so much blood on his hands..and the potential for so much more…mygawd those images of people crowding airports to return to Europe…it’s going to increase infections and send them overseas.

      • weinua says:

        a 💩 for a 💩 !

    • Lolo86lf says:

I do not believe for a minute that his test came back negative. He will lie about it, his doctors will lie about it.

      • Sarah says:

I don’t believe he’s negative either. But when he ends up in hospital it will be because he is so very healthy and fit and has the best immune system ever.

      • Ali says:

As soon as his dr publicly said he didn’t need to take the test (a lie), I knew any results announced would be that he was negative.

      • Mac says:

I do not believe for a minute he was tested. Meanwhile, we are in self quarantine because my husband had contact with someone who tested positive. Since we have no access to testing, we’re just waiting to see if we get sick.

    • B n A fn says:

I will never believe he was tested even if I saw a photo of him getting swab. The man lies about everything. Friday during his news conference he said he was not getting tested. Rumor is he does not want his DNA out because of a case against him. On Friday night his dr sent out a letter about 11:54 pm saying he was not getting tested. On Saturday afternoon he said he was tested on Friday night, was that after his Dr said he was not being tested? , Between 11:54 to midnight? Check Rolling stone article, see the letter from his Dr, with date stamped, March 13, 11:54 pm.

We will remember in November, Vote Blue!!

      • Pinetree13 says:

That case is the e Jean Carroll rape they’ve petitioned for his DNA as they have a sample from her coat.

I am firmly in the “he was not even tested” camp

      • Some chick says:

        #BlueNoMatterWho

OMG if this thing clears out the current regime… well… the phrase “poetic justice” does come to mind.

I will now go back to self-sequestering. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

      • Original T.C. says:

        @BFN
I would bet anyone a trillion dollars if the complete DNA of all top leaders in the three branches of government weren’t on file for proof of life (or proof of death).

Trump is not getting tested because: 1) His cult will then have to acknowledge that COVID 19 is a legitimate thing and not just the flu. 2) In his mind testing will completely crash the market with no recovery. He is a liar so people in business would not believe him if he said he was negative.

Reason #2 is why he dropped the interest rate to 0%, to encourage people to go to banks and businesses to take loans they can’t afford and buy things they can’t afford!

    • Chica71 says:

The doctor is actually a doctor is osteopathic medicine ( no I have no bias about this). Given his shady long term doctor and the former Navy doctor, I’m skeptical about the veracity of his negative test. BTW, has the second half of his physical been completed yet?

      • pottymouth pup says:

some people crap on DOs but they are as well educated and trained as folks with an MD and many of them do their residencies at allopathic institutions (meds schools that result in MD are allopathic). The only difference in their curriculum vs the allopathic curriculum is that they also include training in “manipulative medicine” (some of the stuff chiropractors do) in addition to all the other regular medical training they receive.

      • Lex says:

I worked in getting overseas trained doctors medical rego in my (Western) country and DO is not considered equivalent to an MD and those doctors were not granted rego.

Agree re November. Now that the debate is done, can we hope that Bernie will do the responsible thing and work for obtainable change? Or at least STFU?

  2. MeghanNotMarkle says:

Of course he doesn’t. Nothing is ever his fault. Blame Obama, wash, rinse, repeat.

  3. tempest prognosticator says:

They wouldn’t admit if he had it. All they do is lie. And cover-up.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

No, they wouldn’t. So it doesn’t matter if he gets tested or not.

      • Esmom says:

Exactly. It was a stupid, stunt queen move. This is what happens when you have zero credibility and you’ve never done a single thing to earn people’s trust.

    • Jerusha says:

But, but they told us he was 239 pounds. That is absolutely believable.🙄

    • Karis Pardashian says:

They’re politicians. Of course they lie.

      • Anon says:

They’re lying not for being politicians, but for being incopetent criminals. These are lying criminals, while plenty of politicians are good honest people. Try not to mix it up, please.

  4. Seraphina says:

CNN had a great article about what we have learned about Trump so far in how he is handling this situation. It was well written but I am also biased. He takes no accountability, he has to read from his script because God forbid when he starts veering off of it he sounds ignorant and he had a mass of people there to back him. While those experts talked he was looking around like a child. Don’t get me started on how he was rude to the reporter.

His rhetoric on how great a nation we are and how we are helping others was not needed. Here are two “big words” for him: Be Quiet!

I’m truly embarrassed by our leader and hope we are able to vote him out of that office that he holds.

    • Noodle says:

The Atlantic does as well. The writer is calling this the end of his presidency. I don’t know if THAT part will ring true in November, but he clearly lays out the situation going on now: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/03/peter-wehner-trump-presidency-over/607969/

      • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

I read that the other day. It was awesome. They have a lot of other good articles to read there as well, and are making all corona related articles free for everyone’s access.

      • Seraphina says:

On point article!!!! Yes! When you have sports leagues leading in a progressive manner during these times more than the leader of our nation and armed forces, Houston we definitely have a problem.

The messed part of it all was that Fox (I went on their site just to see their spin) had an article about how if the media wasn’t so Focused on impeachment trials we would not have been blind sighted by the epidemic. GIVE ME AN EFFING BREAK! Unfortunately we have idiots who believe this propaganda. And that’s why we have the mess we have now

      • Jaded says:

Great article Noodle, thanks for posting. Even though I’m Canadian what happens south of the border is inextricably linked to what happens here. Although I’m no great fan of Justin Trudeau, he has handled the crisis within Canadian borders quickly and efficiently, despite quarantining himself because his wife has the corona virus. So far he’s shown no symptoms and she is sequestered in a separate part of their home away from family and staff.

I saw a woman interviewed in Texas I believe at one of Trump’s rallies and this MAGA baseball cap wearing fuckwit actually said that COVID-19 is a Democratic hoax and there is no pandemic….the level of stupidity is mind-boggling and a major part of the reason this pandemic is taking place. It’s the “Well I’m OK so I’m just gonna go about my daily business” mindset that’s so dangerous.

I really hope this is the turning point in Trump’s presidency and it’s all heading straight downhill after this point.

    • Liz version 700 says:

I am also embarrassed by him so very much. But he gave up being the leader. He refused tests kits when they were offered because he wanted the profit to be made in the US, he lied about cases and took no action. The governors bypassed him and took action. Businesses bypassed him. Even churches and schools stopped waiting for him to lead. Now when I see him he is embarrassing and irrelevant. People will/have died because of his refusal to be honest and rise to the moment. I pray people remember this in February.

      • Some chick says:

What I fail to understand is why people are acting all surprised about this!
        WHAT did y’all expect?!

      • MrsRoper says:

I saw a bumper sticker that said, “Elect a clown, expect a circus.”

      • Anon says:

Trump wanted the profits to be made by Jared Kushner and his brother Joshua and other MAGA related grifters like Icahn. They are always grifting, and now they have an opportunity to grift America “bigly”.

  5. Lightpurple says:

Right now there are thousands of people stuck in our airports in long lines for hours on end because of his “screening” policy and the lack of staff to do it.

Ivanka is quarantined, don’t expect honesty there but she photographed herself, at our expense, with about 5 different people who have it last week. And the extended Kushner family has found a way to profit from this.

But we’ll all be fine because Jared is in charge and he’s getting his information from Karli Kloss’s father’s Facebook page and today Ben Carson and Mike Pence will lead us in praying the virus away.

    • Mac says:

At this point, it’s down to governors, state legislatures and local officials to contain the virus.

      • Esmom says:

Yes, our governor (IL) is on fire, taking Trump to task while also making clear the danger of not taking this seriously. He berated all the Chicagoans who just had to go out and have their green beer yesterday even though the parade was cancelled. He’s getting criticized online for the mess at O’Hare airport, over which the state has no jurisdiction.

He pleaded with people to stay home as much as possible, unlike the governor of Oklahoma who tweeted (and then deleted) a photo of himself out at a packed restaurant with his kids).

      • A Fan says:

In my country, many/most of the updates are done by the chief medical officers (who are doctors) on both the federal level and provincial levels. Decisions are made in conjunction with health and government officials. They absolutely work together and are not at odds. In many of the press conferences, politicians are either not there or hardly speak.

I think this method gives citizens the peace of mind that decisions are being made based on rational science and are non-partisan.

[*At least for me it does.*]

      • Sue M says:

Sounds like Canada! Where I am. Both the feds and the provincial health ministries are doing a terrific job. In BC where I live the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, has become enormously respected. She is almost a rock star here! She has experience of SARS, H1N1, and ebola outbreaks, as well a flu. All the politicians are telling us to do as the medical and epidemiologists say we should behave. They only get in when they have to recommend self-isolation, or order closures. Big announcement today at 10am for the feds, 11am for the province, we are anticipating big closures.

    • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

The same Pence and Carson who coughed into their hands and touched their faces immediately after (and the podium, which ALL of them touched, incl Fauchi, who should know better!).

Oh yeah, I REALLY want to get my information from THEM.

    • Nic919 says:

The states with competent governors will try to control this despite the orange buffoon. I feel bad for people who live in. Red states because the governors there have done stupid things like go to restaurants with their kids and promote spreading the virus.

  6. Aimee says:

What kind of doctor would not recommend testing? This from the supposed White House doctor a couple days ago. They should ALL be tested. Everyone that was at Mar a Lago, etc. This is our leadership in a time of crisis. Trump could be bleeding from his eyeballs and he’d still deny having it. I don’t believe a word from any of them.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

A sycophant, that’s who. This administration is such a joke, only this isn’t funny anymore.

    • Arpeggi says:

To be fair, there’s no real need to test if there aren’t symptoms; I’m not even sure the test would be accurate in such a situation. It’s why Trudeau isn’t getting tested even if Sophie is positive. Of course, in a normal administration, you’d be extremely careful of the POTUS and their interactions and try to keep them in a bubble them to ensure they stay healthy. But this isn’t a normal administration and I’m pretty certain that a lot of them hate him as much as we do and wish him to get sick so they’ll let him roll in coronavirus

      • ChillyWilly says:

You can have AND spread the virus even if you are asymptomatic. Testing on a widespread level of even healthy people is very necessary!

      • Nic919 says:

Trudeau self isolated though even without a test because he was in contact with someone who tested positive. Dump has also been in contact with someone who tested positive and he’s just shaking hands and spreading it all over.

I would feel bad but the vultures in the WH deserve this.

      • Jaded says:

Trudeau self-isolated away from his wife, she’s sequestered in a separate area of their house with zero contact with her family and staff. So until symptoms present we have to save our test kits for those who are symptomatic.

      • Elisa says:

@Arpeggi: you’re right, there is no need to test if you have no symptoms as the result would not be accurate (our experts on TV said you would have to test people with no or mild symptoms every day for a certain period of time to make sure they are negative – or positive). So this would be totally inefficient, especially if you don’t have enough test kits / resources for testing available anyways.
My country (Austria) is right now getting ready for a total lockdown. Starting tomorrow, schools, kindergardens, unis, bars, restaurants – even playgrounds – will be closed, gatherings limited to 5 people (also indoors). Our chancellor called on the population to “self-isolate.” It’s kind of scary (and I was still joking about Corona only a week ago). So stay healthy everyone!

  7. Mexicalidesi says:

This might have been my favorite post re Trump/fed covid response yet. And I am reading a lot of them, as a US citizen residing in India, which has now effectively closed its borders. I am horrified, for the 1000x time, that this effing idiot holds so much power in his hands. So thanks for telling it like it is. It made me feel a little better to know I am not alone in my utter rage.

  8. MCV says:

Here in Spain everything is under lockdown except food stores and hospitals, we have more than 6k cases and around 200 deaths, they ‘re telling us that the next week is going to we hard because the number are going to go up like crazy, so please take care, and if you can don’t go outside and be very precatious.

    • Giddy says:

Take care of yourself also. This is such a frightening time, and for us it’s especially frightening because we have a fool in charge. Be well.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Am in the UK and Boris has been slow with responding and the NHS just isn’t ready to deal with massive testing and treatment.

On Friday my company told EVERYONE to work from home from Monday until further notice, not everywhere is doing that.

People are scared and yeah the next few weeks are going to be hard as the numbers shoot up. Its only a matter of time before what’s happening in Europe hits North and South America – stay safe folks.

Trump will only act if he thinks the virus will affect his re-election chances. For US peeps who understand the Constitution – what happens if both Dump and Pence get the virus and become sick? Does Nancy take over?

      • JanetDR says:

Just being sick isn’t enough (unfortunately since those two clowns have been exposed).

      • fluffybunny says:

Trump dies Pence takes over. Pence dies Nancy takes over. Did you ever see the show Designated Survivor? This is how we end up with Ben Carson as POTUS.

      • weinua says:

boris and trump: 2 brothers from different mothers. Figures!

    • Liz version 700 says:

Take care and please be safe MCV

  9. Jerusha says:

donald j. trump is a sack of shit. Does anybody disagree with me?

    • Lolo86lf says:

I do agree with you. Off topic here but I read that he is wearing baseball caps a lot now because his hairdressers do not want to be near him because he might indeed be positive while claiming he is not. It takes an hour to do this egomaniac’s hair.

      • vertes says:

Years ago, he said Melania did his hair. Now he can’t get his wife to fix his hair?

      • Swack says:

Notice he went from wearing MAGA hats to USA hats?

      • ChillyWilly says:

        Lmao!! That’s funny!!

      • Christin says:

A trained hairdresser creates that swooping mess? I thought he probably did it.

Maybe he didn’t stock up on enough hairspray. Looks like that “style” would take a full can to paste into place.

      • Esmom says:

I think he switched to the USA hat because he’s not supposed to be wearing campaign merch in his role. Effing moron in chief.

      • 10KTurtle says:

He’s wearing hats to cover up a shunt on his head (for treating hydrocephalus or delivering drugs).

    • Joanna says:

      Nope!

  10. grabbyhands says:

I don’t take responsibility at all.

If that ain’t the understatement of the fucking millennium, I don’t know what is. If his presidency had a motto, that would be it.

And if I hear one more MAGAt talk about how Obama did nothing while people died of swine flu, I’m going to cut someone.

    • Giddy says:

Not me, not me, not me. It was him (Obama) It wasn’t me, I didn’t do it. These are the words of toddlers everywhere, as they try to lie their way out of trouble.

  11. Janet says:

In the meantime, Jack Ma has sourced 1 million masks and 500,000 test kits which he intends to donate to the US.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

I read about that last night. At least someone somewhere is doing something, since this administration can’t be bothered.

    • adastraperaspera says:

Jack Ma is a tool of the Communist Chinese Party. No one in that country is truly independent, even oligarchs like Ma (and sorry, but also popular celebs like Jackie Chan). Ma is doing this to fluff their propaganda. They have grievously exacerbated this problem and are spreading disinformation that it is the U.S. who attacked them with a biological weapon.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Yes I was reading that – I’ve also read that the Chinese are hiding the real numbers of those infected/dead.

Experts are now saying that the virus came from a pangolin not a bat as originally reported and that it was transferred from the pangolin to a human who ate it.

      • Livvers says:

@ Digital Unicorn can you share a link? I know articles about the source of COVID-19 has dropped off precipitously since it became a global pandemic (the mainstream media are, rightfully, focusing their attention on other things), but I remain curious about the source. The science up to now has always been that bats, as carriers of many coronavirus, are the original source, but there is no direct bat-human transmission until the virus mutates through another animal such as civet cat or pangolin. So I am curious to see how the new research has departed from this hypothesis (i.e. no bats involved).

Poor pangolins, one of the top black market trafficked animals in the world. 🙁

      • Janet says:

@ADASTRA: well, the US press attempted to float the idea early on that it was a Chinese bio-weapon that sonehow escaped. So I suppose we can save the outrage if the Chinese are now returning the favor. As for Jack Ma… I don’t know if it’s “reputation buffing” or not. I do know that in the Uni housing where my youngest lives, it was the Chinese kid there who was ordering in masks and hand sanitizer in quantity for himself and the rest of the flatmates well before the others clued in. This isn’t the first epidemic the Chinese have seen.

Death toll being hidden… It’s possible. But if a place that locked down 60 million people as quickly as they did has to hide the death toll, you can bet that Trump will make sure the declared US death toll “wins”. It’s highly likely that was already done after Hurricane Katrina, so it wouldn’t be the first time.

      • David says:

I have seen a few different articles on the pangolin being the root cause. They are used primarily for food and their dried scales for Chinese medicine. It makes sense that if this animal’s only defense mechanism is curling up into a ball that it would develop many more diseases to spread when constantly abused, captured, and put in cages with other animals in markets from Wuhan to wherever else they are trafficked.

      • adastraperaspera says:

@Janet – Rupert Murdoch’s Fox “News” and the GOP Sen. Tom Cotton have, indeed, spread the rumor that the virus is a bioweapon. What they are doing is wrong, I agree. But the U.S. does not have a one-party, government-wide propaganda effort to censor information and spread lies like the Communist Party of China does. As for Trump, you’re spot on–he is a menace who cares about nothing but a re-election to avoid prosecution of his crimes.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

@Livvers: The 2 mainstream sources I’ve read about the Pangolins are:

        https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/05/opinion/coronavirus-china-pangolins.html

        https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/feb/07/pangolins-might-have-spread-coronavirus-to-humans

However, they are still on the hunt for the source. It def came from that wet market in Wuhan but no one seems to know for sure which animal it came from.

  12. Zan says:

    Trump is a coward.
He embodies loads of loathsome and vile traits, but his cowardice is really quite stunning. His total lack of any moral strength or shred of decency in the midst of a global pandemic shows how truly pathetic he is.

  13. Mexicalidesi says:

Yeah, @#$% those Chinese people, even if they are doing their best. Because our president says it is a foreign virus, we all know what that means.

  14. MellyMel says:

I don’t believe he got tested and even if he did, they wouldn’t tell us if he was positive. He’s a liar and I don’t trust anything coming out of his mouth or those of the people behind him. And his continued blaming of Obama is truly sickening. Obama made one joke about him years ago and he cannot let it go. Sad!

  15. Sean says:

Even if he doesn’t have the virus, I suspect Trump will not make it until November. His speech is dramatically slurred and vocabulary painfully simple. His body spasms and jerks. He often holds onto the podium for dear life. He can’t stay on course unless he has pre-planned speech. He looks unwell.

He may have dementia. We know he’s a habitual drug user. He’s obese. This is the first time in his life he’s actually had to answer for something regardless of how he attempts to spin out of it. It’s all getting to him.

People on Twitter have also noticed he appears to have what may be cerebral shunts, which are used to treat hydrocephalus (swelling of the brain).

During his address to the nation on Wednesday, his right eye appeared as though he couldn’t open it all the way. In Friday’s press conference it was even more swollen shut. During his news conference yesterday, he wore a hat and didn’t have his orange foundation on. His lips looked blue.

This may not be the end of him but I feel that time is right around the corner.

      Agree with you.

    • ChillyWilly says:

Fingers crossed!!! I used to want him to suffer the humiliation of getting voted out and have to face criminal charges but now I just want him dead and gone. He is a monster.

    • Anon says:

Amplifying @E.B.Mann’s words: from your mouth to God’s ears. We can dedicate ourselves to put the rest of his family in jail afterwards.

  16. Tate says:

Time to completely ignore this useless piece of trash and listen to our state and local officials.

    • Christin says:

Agree. Hopefully we can take care of our own families and vulnerable neighbors as best we can.

Good idea to think about elderly and shut-ins. I’ve been trying to call and see whether they need anything so they don’t have to get out. I always try to shop on my way to work (early AM), when there’s hardly anyone there.

    • Dara says:

Totally agree. I find it very reassuring to listen to my local officials when they do press conferences or appear on news shows. You can tell they don’t have all the answers, but they are working very hard to mitigate this and provide support to their citizens as much as they can. Seattle’s mayor mentioned she had a conference call with 100 other U.S. mayors about what is coming their way and if other areas can learn from our experiences it might help slow this thing down.

    • lucy2 says:

It’s been that time all along, since Jan 2017. Hopefully more and more people realize that.

  17. Allergy says:

These WH press conferences are such a JOKE.

  18. Anabell says:

Hello everybody, I just want to inform you that your president just offered a german biotech company which is working on the production of a vaccine egainst the Corona Virus, 1 Billion dollars if they come to the United States or produce exclusively for the United States. I have no words…
The German government is very interested in the development of vaccines and active substances against the novel corona virus in Germany and Europe. And I’m sure we would make it available for everybody.

I wish you all the best and that everybody in your country will receive the best medical treatment possible.
For that I’m thankful living in Europe. In Germany every employer and every employee is commited/obliged to be medically insured. When you are unemployed the government pays for the insurrance the whole time. Even if it will be ten years.

  19. Sophie says:

I am 37 weeks pregnant with one sick kid and one healthy kid at home in CA with schools closed. This has been a fun week. My sick 4 year old could manage this crisis better than the morons running our federal government. I am due to be induced Friday night, and am very worried that our hospital will be stretched thin by the time I am to have this baby. The silver lining is that at least this virus doesn’t seem to be particularly dangerous for children and infants, but it’s still scary.

    • Aimee says:

We will keep you in our thoughts Sophie. I’m sure you will be fine and the kids too!

    • Giddy says:

All good thoughts to you Sophie.

    • Christin says:

Sophie, many well wishes. There is a doctor from Baltimore who has been on TV several times this week (Dr. Wu, if I recall her name correctly). She is 37 weeks pregnant, too. Her rational calmness has been a welcome thing to hear, especially since she is ready to need healthcare herself.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

Take care of yourself and your family, Sophie. May you have a healthy baby!

    • Some chick says:

Well wishes, Sophie! Please check in and let us know how you are doing!

    • Jordana says:

@Sophie, sending positive thoughts for you and your family, for a safe delivery on Friday.

  20. Anabell says:

US President Donald Trump is trying to lure German scientists working on a potential corona vaccine to the USA with large financial contributions or to secure the drug exclusively for his country.
    I’m quoting a german politician:
Sharp criticism because of covetousness of the USA came also from the vice chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group, Baerbel Bas. “This is an ethical, not economic or even national question”, she said. “If there is a vaccine, it must be available to everyone. Anything else would be a scandal. A pandemic is about all people, not “America first.”

I hope you can understand that we cannot accept this. It is a global crisis and we should be interested in helping all countries who are suffering.

    • Lady D says:

Pretty sure almost every country and every person in the world wants to see everyone helped, with the exception of Trump, and like @Christin said, his greedy friends.

      • David says:

        @Lady D
I saw that WHO took down their info about pets only testing positive for low levels of the virus. If you see updates that I don’t, please let us know. I genuinely thank you for the love you have for our angels.

  21. Lory says:

His administration fired the Pandemic Response team in 2018, so it is directly his fault.

  22. adastraperaspera says:

Every day, I try to think of one small thing I can do to remove this sadist from power. Sometimes it’s just sending Joe Biden or Amy McGrath $5. Writing or calling senators I know don’t care and other representatives I know do care. Other times it’s sharing information with friends. Not much, right? But every tiny act of pushing back matters. We have power. We will remove this madman. It won’t be soon enough, but the day will come.

  23. Other Renee says:

I have a huge fear that somehow he will manage to delay elections due to the health crisis/national emergency and seize power indefinitely. Is that even a possibility? Please say no. I can’t stop thinking about this. He’s a total lunatic but other lunatics have managed to grab hold of power and refuse to let it go.

    • Sean says:

It’s entirely possible, sadly. His administration and the GOP have been slowly consolidating power over the last four years. The Coronavirus may be the Reichstag fire needed for them to move into a full dictatorship.

Hopefully, the GOP will crumble following this. I also believe Trump won’t last much longer health-wise. He’s deteriorating before our very eyes.

    • klutzy_girl says:

Someone Tweeted about this the other day – it’s in the Constitution (I think?) that if no election is held by January 20th, the current president’s term is over and the Speaker of the House would then take over as president. It’s the last thing he’d want to do.

      • Other Renee says:

Thank you. You’re correct. I googled it (which I should have done before I began to panic). His term ends on 1/20/21 thankfully. Wouldn’t that be an unbelievable twist of fate if Nancy Pelosi became acting President? That alone would cause the Ego in Chief to have a heart attack.

      • Sean says:

While this is true, I fear they will try to change the constitution or find a way to suspend it. The virus provides a reasonable excuse if things get worse. As we know the Senate and SCOTUS are controlled by the GOP. Let’s also remember Vladimir Putin just abolished Russia’s parliament and is now working to amend Russia’s constitution so he can have more terms post 2024.

He provided a road map for the GOP

      • MeghanNotMarkle says:

@Sean Russia’s example is what scares me the most. I am constantly in a state of heightened anxiety and this doesn’t help.

    • Lightpurple says:

His term ends at noon, January 20, 2021. If someone is not sworn in, the Speaker takes control. Power over the military, DOJ, and Secret Service all switch to the Speaker. The Speaker can order him removed from the White House. The White House ushers will clear his belongings from the residence and office, sending them to a last known address or storage – he will be billed for the storage.

Part of me really wants to see this crew hauled out in shackles.

      • Leah says:

I would give anything to see Madame Speaker give that order to “get that crumb out, he’s done here”.

He hates her because she’s a strong woman that he can’t intimidate or buy off. She just twists that subtle knife, sits back and watches as he rages about. She has more power over him than he knows.

      • nicegirl says:

        I would love that

    • M.A.F. says:

That won’t happen. We had elections go on even when we were at war.

  24. Leah says:

He’s lying and he’s pretty much done in Nov.

The senate failed us and now it has to take a virus to bring his administration down. Strange how things work out.

  25. BUBS says:

Dear America, please get it right in November…

  26. Middle of the road says:

Devils advocate here. How is it his fault there’s lack of testing? He’s clearly not a man of science so how the heck could you expect him to come up with tests this fast? Sure he’s being irresponsible regarding the virus, but the media isn’t helping either by making people mass panic. Just saying…

    • JanetDR says:

He refused the World Health Organization’s tests. No one expects the president to create a test…… but he could have left the Pandemic Response team in place. People shouldn’t panic but they need to understand how serious it is – we will be where Italy is soon if people don’t listen.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

This is absolutely his fault. He fired the entire pandemic team. He REFUSED tests from the WHO. There’s no playing devil’s advocate here.

    • lucy2 says:

As the others have said, he dismantled the response team and refused tests.
He’s also gone out there and spread horribly wrong information – sure, go to work if you’re sick! Sure, a miracle will happen and this will all be over soon! He has failed at every level of leadership.

    • deering24 says:

And he got rid of the pandemic team out of sheer racist spite because Obama started it.

    • M.A.F. says:

      1. For several weeks he call this virus a hoax. 2. He got rid of the pandemic team 3. every time he opens his mouth he lies, causes people to panic, & the stock market to go further down.

He is the leader of the U.S. and with that comes responsibility, regardless if he likes it or not.

    • Anon says:

Shut it now, @Middle of the Road!

    • Lightpurple says:

The people who attended the Biogen conference knew they were sick. They tried to get tested. The state couldn’t test them because they didn’t meet the three criteria from Trump: symptoms; hospitalized; and contact with an infected person from China. He refused them testing for over two weeks. More than 70 of them had it.

    • Veronica S. says:

He is the president of the United States, the largest economic and military power in the world! Literally, it is his job to be prepared for this shit. It is his job to be able to react responsibly and as expediently as possible, regardless of how random, unexpected, or dramatic a turn of events are. That is the role of the POTUS. That is the dual edged sword of having that kind of power. It comes with the responsibility for everything that goes on here!

Furthermore, THEY DELAYED TESTING ON PURPOSE. They knew it would affect his candidacy, so they purposefully limited testing. And now all of us get to scramble and eat the cost of the fall out because this egotistical sociopath wanted to win bigly: https://www.npr.org/2020/03/12/814881355/white-house-knew-coronavirus-would-be-a-major-threat-but-response-fell-short

      Here’s the important quotation:

“DIAMOND: I think they are both trying to show that they’re incredibly active and aggressive in public, but some of the decisions behind the scenes haven’t always reflected the best judgment of career professionals. In the case of Alex Azar, he did go to the president in January. He did push past resistance from the president’s political aides to warn the president the new coronavirus could be a major problem. There were aides around Trump – Kellyanne Conway had some skepticism at times that this was something that needed to be a presidential priority.

But at the same time, Secretary Azar has not always given the president the worst-case scenario of what could happen. My understanding is he did not push to do aggressive additional testing in recent weeks, and that’s partly because more testing might have led to more cases being discovered of coronavirus outbreak, and the president had made clear – the lower the numbers on coronavirus, the better for the president, the better for his potential reelection this fall.”

Do not give anyone in that administration the benefit of the doubt. This clusterf*ck was entirely avoidable. It didn’t not have to get THIS bad had they acted sooner and with more prescience. They intentionally created a situation and are now scrambling because it’s out of their control.

I didn’t watch it because I’m at work, but the consensus on Twitter, even among Bernie fans, is that he didn’t do enough to turn things around.

  31. Veronica S. says:

This absolutely cockwaffle. You can’t take responsibility for something that is ALREADY YOUR GODDAMN RESPONSIBILITY. It’s like Bush and Karina all over again, except worse because the impact is going to be far more jarring and long-term.

They just grounded everything for my job, and my brother’s now out of work for weeks because the restaurant industry has been shut down completely by my state government. Thank goodness we had to cancel our trip to the UK because now all that money we saved is probably going to be poured into covering his bills. But after that, covering both of our bills reduces my three months of financial buffering to just one and a half, so here’s to praying nobody else in this home loses a job over the next few months. At this point, I’m braced for another recession and am VERY thankful I put off medical school for another year or didn’t do something stupid like buy a house.

(I cannot believe they only suspended student interest but not student repayments on loans. What the hell does that even do in the short term??)
