Prince William & Kate did a photo-op at an emergency call service during the pandemic

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visit the London Ambulance Service during the Coronavirus crisis!

If you thought the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were just going to be content with safely self-isolating and making promises to be keen, you were mistaken. I mean, I have to give some credit for something: we’ve been begging them to get off their lazy asses for so many years, and in the very moment of crisis when they should truly be isolated in their country bolt-hole, they decide THIS is the moment to “step up.” We confused them. William and Kate went to the London Ambulance Service control room last Wednesday, and they only posted the photos from the visit on Friday. The event did not have any press, so these photos were just taken by Kensington Palace’s in-house photographer.

For all of us Americans, this is the equivalent of going to the 911 call center (Update/Correction: this is the 111 call center, so this would be the equivalent, in America, to calling the CDC or a medically-staffed call center). The people they met are some of the first responders – during the coronavirus pandemic, many people will be calling the 1-1-1 number and asking for advice and help. Considering the importance of these emergency operators, should William and Kate really have dropped by and should W&K be standing so close to these people?

Fashion notes: Kate wore a suit from Marks & Spencer – the blazer retails for $175 and the trousers retail for $105. She also wore Hugo Boss pumps. I honestly don’t think much of the suit? Yeah, it’s a somewhat fresh silhouette for her, but I kind of hate the cut of the trousers. Her hair was shockingly un-puffy and straight. She lost the sausage curls several years back, but usually she still leaves some waves or has some bouncy blowout volume. Is this what her hair looks like without blowouts, hairpieces and such? I think so.

Here’s the message posted on the KensingtonRoyal IG about the visit, written by William:

Catherine and I were proud to visit staff working at NHS 111, to pass on our personal thanks, along with those of my grandmother and father, to staff working around the clock to provide care and advice to those that need it most.

The last few weeks, and more recent days have been understandably concerning with the continuing spread of coronavirus.

But it’s at times like this when we realise just how much the NHS represents the very best of our country and society – people from all backgrounds and walks of life with different experiences and skills, pulling together for the common good.

Not only are NHS staff and emergency workers responding to the needs of the public, they – like the rest of us – are concerned about their families, friends and loved ones.

They need our support as much as we need theirs.

All of us have a part to play if we’re going to protect the most vulnerable.

That means acting on the latest expert advice, staying home if we or those we live with have symptoms, and avoiding non-essential contact to help reduce the spread of the virus.

[From KensingtonRoyal IG]

“…Avoiding non-essential contact to help reduce the spread of the virus…” Like the non-essential contact of forcing emergency operators to interact with royalty just because those royals want a photo-op? I mean… this is one of those things where William and Kate could have ASSUMED that the operators are busy and overworked. They didn’t need to verify it IN PERSON and get photo evidence. Kensington Palace truly could have emailed the head of the emergency services and asked what William and Kate could do to draw attention to how overworked and overwhelmed they are. And KP could have put that in a list of suggestions in a social media post. But then how would Katie Nicholl and other royal reporters write cloying articles about how William and Kate are “beginning their coronavirus outreach”? This is the moment where NO PHYSICAL OUTREACH IS REQUIRED. It is grossly irresponsible to physically attempt outreach!

My friend’s daughter put together a more informative piece on how to wash your hands for her Girl Scout badge. She also looked more interested in what she was doing.

I actually like her pants suit. I’ve come to the realization that no matter what, Kate’s clothes own her and not the other way around.

    • Yup, Me says:

I was just coming to say the same. I think the pantsuit looks good. Just not on Kate, future future queen of the Mayo people.

Also, a couple days ago, when we went out to get supplies, we told our son to put his hands in his pockets and not to touch ANYTHING. Kate looks like someone told her something similar. “Clasp your hands and don’t touch ANYTHING.”

      • sa says:

“Also, a couple days ago, when we went out to get supplies, we told our son to put his hands in his pockets and not to touch ANYTHING. Kate looks like someone told her something similar. “Clasp your hands and don’t touch ANYTHING.””

Great advice for your son and if that’s what Kate was doing, I can’t fault her for that. I had to go to the store a few days ago for some supplies and I was amazed by how many times I had to stop myself from touching something, or touching a part of the cart that I hadn’t wiped down. I never realized before how much my hands have a mind of their own and they want to touch stuff!

  2. Rapunzel says:

They are such likely vectors too, having traveled recently. Ridiculously stupid. And with kids at home… just irresponsible.

    • Aang says:

I’m sure they have been tested. Perhaps more than once. In the US concierge physicians are hoarding test kits, nebulizers, and antivirals for their wealthy clients.

      • Nic919 says:

They never said they were tested though because they probably weren’t. Besides the responders were never told these two were tested and between going from their place in Norfolk to London there is no guarantee they did not acquire it. All this travel for non essential things like a photo op is just increasing the risk of exposure to everyone. The point of staying home is to actually stay home. Bill and Cathy have a few to choose from.

      • bekindbekindbekind says:

Aang – you know “concierge physicians are hoarding [medical care] for wealthy clients”….how, exactly?

      • Millennial says:

Not Aang, but my husband is a pharmacist and they are already seeing physicians prescribing themselves and their relatives/friends the hydrochloroquine(sp?) (basically Planquil) drug everyone is talking about to have just in case. They don’t need it/have COVID-19, they are just hoarding it because it may go on shortage. It’s the new face mask/toilet paper.

What sucks is many people with RA and lupus take it and may have a hard time getting it if this continues.

      • Tessa says:

They could be negative when tested but no guarantee they could come up positive the next day.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Besides the express services to the two airports cited,
that article is mostly “author states” without citation of source.

I can believe in the hospital grade filtration systems people are asking for, but MDs take the Hippocratic oath- “First, do no harm…,” so I think it’s grossly unfair to label a broad swath of professionals that way.

      • SomeChick says:

No one said “all doctors” are doing it, @NotSoSocial.

        But SOME doctors are.

There is gross inequality in the US healthcare system. The wealthy get better care. Or care at all. It is wrong and it needs to be fixed. People are definitely taking advantage.

You think people would hoard TP but not medications? Be real.

      • Guest says:

AANG is not wrong though.. they have done the same think in Britain. Wealthy clients and their families have been tested, some of them have been tested more than once and counting.. #Survivaloftherichest

    • Tessa says:

I am horrified that some big fans of William and Kate on blogs and social media sites think this “great” and they are just like George VI and Queen Elizabeth visiting sites that were bombed int he war. And pretend like William and Kate are immune to the illness. She already took the kids out to the store.

      • Nic919 says:

The people who think this is like visiting London during the blitz are utter idiots. The virus spreads that way and it does not care about how blue your blood may be. It’s exactly the kind of response you see from dump cultists.

      • Mac says:

If they want to “visit” first responders they can live stream a video conference. I had to go to the pharmacy yesterday and I was stunned by the lack of social distancing I saw on my way to the store and in the store. Walgreens has set up six feet markers for the cashier line and people were generally perplexed about why they were there and what they should do.

      • Babz says:

I went three rounds yesterday with who I assume is an older male, given his views and language. He stated it is “their duty” to go out and spread morale, because Blitz behavior, etc. I reminded him that their “duty” is the safety of their family and not to be out and about. He didn’t budge. He allowed that I had valid points, but it’s “their duty because they are royal.” When I told him the virus doesn’t differentiate between royal and commoner, and their presence is putting others, namely first responders, in jeopardy, he went again to “their duty was to set an example for others.” I responded that they were setting a bad example, as everyone was expected to self-distance, and he again cited “their duty as royals.” I ended it there, and wished him well. He was either an old Dickie Arbiter-type, obtuse, or a bot. Unbelievable.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate was in a crowded grocery store on the weekend and could have spread the virus to these first responders. No one really knows. And who knows what William was doing, but he was seen playing soccer at some point last week with some guys. It remains idiotic that they did this photo op. If they truly cared they would have worn clothing that was better suited not to spread things, but no Kate has to show off a new cheap looking suit.

There is already a confirmed BP aide with the virus so who knows now much it has spread. Science and medicine should take priority over archaic nonsense.

      • carmen says:

Nic919 – where did you read that Kate was in a grocery store?

    • Lorelei says:

I think this article should be required reading for not only William and Kate, but anyone not taking guidelines seriously:

      https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/03/the-story-of-a-coronavirus-infection.html

  3. Nyro says:

The suit is “ok”. It’s just there like everything else she wears. Like it’s still on the hanger.

    • Mac says:

It might be better if the pants weren’t cropped. The proportions seem off.

      • Roslyn says:

I agree. For someone who is bothered by the fact she has a long torso, why on earth would she wear cropped pants like this that make her legs look even shorter? Baffling. I actually like the notion of her wearing suits, in fact I have been hoping for years that she would adopt them as her everyday work uniform, but proper length pants, please.

    • SpankFD says:

Exactly. Poor Kate photographs like a walking clothes hanger, looking so uncomfortable in her own skin (perhaps because she surrendered all agency for the thrill of the crown?). How can such a wealthy, connected couple make such poor fashion, PR and leadership choices?

      • songbirds_thrive says:

TBH, in my opinion Katie is trying to ‘edge up’ her look and copy-Kate Meghan, but it ain’t working too well.

In terms of fashion and personal style, Kate has been exposed as a ‘follower’ not a leader, and as a copier, not an original.

The whole embargoing of the visit is also copying Meghan’s way of doing things behind-the-scenes with not a lot of press and releasing photos later. Of course, at this time of COVID-19, W&K should be self-isolating. If they want to be helpful, I don’t think visiting a call center is at all helpful. Plus, they both have fake ‘we’re so serious and concerned’ looks on their faces. This visit was about p.r. and embiggening themselves.

The way the Instagram post is written up by William is also copying the style of the Sussex Instagram posts. It is what it is, sadly. Copying and being inspired is not a problem unless you are insecure, jealous and bitter toward the persons you are copying and who you don’t want to give any credit to.

  4. bekindbekindbekind says:

What was the point of this beyond manipulating optics in a time when every single person there had far more important things to do?

    • Xo says:

      . . .

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

      Bingo.

    • Bella DuPont says:

They’re in direct competition against the Sussexes on which couple can do a better “Coronavirus outreach”. After “risking their lives” visiting emergency workers in aid of this cause, Coronavirus outreach now belongs to them and not the Sussexes, at least in the UK.

      • Tessa says:

William and Kate now are labeled as the “face of the Monarchy” with their elders not leaving home. How absurd. William may be staging massive PR but he is making himself look ridiculous and Kate just enables it.

      • Bella DuPont says:

        @ Tessa

Nobody would have guessed just how hungry for power and attention the Cambridges really were/are until Meghan came on the scene. Now, they almost wear the thirst and desperation like badges of honour.

It’s so bizarre, because the are assured of their future future positions (as long as the monarchy survives) as king and queen consort…..no matter how accomplished or popular the Sussexes are….which really makes me wonder what is driving this thirst for attention…..

      • Becks1 says:

@Bella – that’s whats so head scratching to me about this. People liked Will and Kate a lot before H&M came on the scene. The biggest thing they got criticized for was lack of work, which was a very valid criticism. After H&M came on the scene people still liked Will and Kate. Had there been no smear campaign and both couples just did their thing, W&K still would have been well liked and popular. Sure, maybe they don’t have the star factor of H&M, but that would have been okay. And even without the extreme embiggening of Kate, some people would still prefer her over Meghan. And that would have been okay.

they went out of their way to drive this wedge between them and the Sussexes and to ensure that nothing threatened their popularity as FFK and FFQC. and it has resulted in some people liking them more, and some people really disliking them more. If they had just KOKO, it would have prob meant that feelings towards them were more neutral overall.

and in the end it doesn’t matter bc barring some major shift/change, William is going to be king. He wasn’t actively disliked before. There was no real reason for him to be so threatened by H&M. And yet, the Cambridges very obviously were.

      • Bella DuPont says:

        @ Becks

        Very astute breakdown. 🙃

      • I so agree BellaDuPont. They are secure in their roles, so why are they both so insecure in themselves that they would take such an active role in doing what they’ve done to Meghan and Harry. I really think these actions have been orchestrated and fueled by some sort of pathological issue in William. He seems to have assigned Harry — from youth — a supporting role that allowed William to be as slack as he wanted. There are many reports that William, while not unlikable, is a haughty, spoiled, self centered, narcissistic, at times obnoxious and controlling, and politically right wing character. That from a young age he has always taken pleasure in reminding Harry of his position as the spare to William’s future king. I think William liked the status quo of Harry loping along beside him and Kate as the hard partying, lovable third wheel. I think William figured Harry would end up marrying an easy going, party girl who would be as easily controlled as he has controlled Harry. But while William was off living the easy life that was his because Harry was forced to step up and cover for him —- Harry got therapy and grew stronger and healthier because of it. Harry started to create a real role for himself and then he fell in love with and married a very smart, hard-working, independent, strong woman….. and the shit hit the fan. Meghan brought out the best in Harry and Harry really started believing in himself. Started shedding his role as keeper of William’s flame while William sat back and lived his private life. I think William has come to really hate Meghan and sees her as the enemy of his ‘easy life but most important sibling’ plans. In his mind, she has ruined Harry because he no longer controls Harry. Now Harry has also become an enemy because he — unbelievable to William — chose to put his relationship with Meghan above his duty to William. It’s only going to get uglier, I think.

      • Liz version 700 says:

Becks that hits the nail square on the head. Bella I agree it makes no sense. JA Lowcountry that is a piercingly insightful analysis and I think also nail on the head. I am so glad Hsrry and Meghan are away from this.

      • Nic919 says:

Becks and JA I 100% agree with your assessments.

      • Giddy says:

@Tessa, if this is the “Face of the Monarchy”, then that face is uninterested, unconcerned, and hollow in intent. They are too self-involved to do more than gaze in the same direction. They couldn’t even fake it! And who came up with this as a PR event? Maybe it was “let’s get the FFK and FFQ exposed to a very contagious virus” day. Stupid.

      • songbirds_thrive says:

        Bella DuPont says:
“Nobody would have guessed just how hungry for power and attention the Cambridges really were/are until Meghan came on the scene. Now, they almost wear the thirst and desperation like badges of honour.

Bottom line @Bella, what’s driving the Cambridges’ “thirst for attention,” IMO, is their own weak insecurities, jealousy and bitterness. Neither of them are comfortable in their own skins. They need the spotlight on them, plumping up their image in order to feel better about themselves. Plus, W&K are pissed to not have Harry’s coattails to ride on, and to not have him as their third wheel puppy any longer.

Meanwhile, Meghan & Harry are more interested in doing substantive work and actually making a real difference. Of course M&H have egos, we all do. But with M&H, it ain’t about the status and the titles embiggening them. It’s about using their status and titles as a platform to do good for others.

Unlike the Cambridges, the Sussexes don’t really need the titles because their hearts are in the right place. People of goodwill around the world can see that, and can see the true love that shines between M&H. That stardust shot of M&H under the umbrella was like magic, somehow signifying that their coming together was fated, and that what God hath joined together will not be ripped asunder. I pray the Sussexes overcome all the unbelievable hate and efforts to tear them down and tear them apart.

        The Cambridges deserve karmic retribution.

      • songbirds_thrive says:

And yep, ITA with you Becks & JA with your spot-on assessments.

I think it’s very possible that Will miscalculated in listening to the stick-in-the-mud, out-of-date royal courtiers warning him that M&H were ‘stealing’ his & Keen’s spotlight. Carole Middleton likely also advised W&K wrongly out of worrying over Meghan ‘shining too much.’

The biggest trigger was the very successful South Pacific tour by the Sussexes’. A lot of people forget just how powerful and positive an impact that tour had. There were Australian journalists oohing and ahhing who said they weren’t previously impressed by Meghan, but were won over by how they conducted themselves on that tour. Even The Guardian had an op ed gushing over ‘how important Harry and Meghan are to the monarchy.’

I believe that even Prince Charles was thrown off by the huge welcoming M&H received in the South Pacific, and by the huge interest in that tour worldwide. So after the Sussexes returned home, that’s when the palace knives really came out, and the okay was given to the tabloid media to drag Meghan. She was thrown to the wolves while she was pregnant! And no one in the family did a thing to stop it. That’s when they really lost Harry.

You guys are right that W&K only succeeded in revealing their true weak characters. All they had to do was chill, be supportive to M&H, and be magnanimous. They could have maybe gotten a full ride then with the ‘Fab Four’ image. But W&K obviously are too petty, insecure and bitter.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Yep. Let the useful workers actually do their work. These interfering visits hurt more than they help. William and Kate can “help” by disappearing and not getting in people’s way.

  5. Maevo says:

Really odd choice when we’re all supposed to be isolating.

    • Betsy says:

This. Ordinarily it’s, “yeah look at them trying to work!” but right now… we’re all supposed to be holed up in our homes if we’re allowed. Why are they there?

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

They’re tone deaf, as usual. I’ve given up hope for these two.

    • Liz version 700 says:

Right?!? The could be super carriers. Germs don’t care if you are royalty.

    • Babz says:

They may be “the face of the monarchy,” but they are emitting very strong vibes of those who refuse to face just how dangerous this virus is. This is not the flu, this is a deadly, shifting virus that is now affecting, and in some cases, killing people their age, as well as seniors. There’s now a case here in Virginia, not that far from me, where a child has been infected. All those people they were visiting at that office, plus their families, and future contacts, could have been endangered by these two extremely thirsty people. I am infuriated by people here refusing to self-isolate, and these two uber privileged clowns infuriate me more. Show some damn common sense, stay home, and care for your children and your minions, who you may still expect to come to work. Gah! 🙄🙄

  6. Nic919 says:

They did the opposite of what other leaders around the world have been modelling in terms of social distancing. So incredibly idiotic and a total vanity move. The UK system is overwhelmed at the moment and seeing photos of Kate and William with their concerned face isn’t going to do fuck all to make anyone feel better. Because Boris Johnson took much longer to start implementing closure of schools and other venues, many in the UK are still not taking stay at home and social distancing seriously, including these two ding dongs. More people will die because of this delay. The numbers in Italy are horrific and the UK is on track to match them.

They should have released a video providing a message to the responders which would have been just as effective, with the added bonus of reducing exposure to others. Kate also spent some time in a busy grocery store last weekend with her kids so who is to say she did not transmit something to some of the responders. No one knows and she is irresponsible here.

That first photo doesn’t show six feet distance either. So people are being put at risk because this virus does not care about race, age, social rank and where in line they fall in succession. It is plain stupid to even think this is like when the queen visited bombed areas during the blitz. They weren’t potentially spreading anything during the blitz, but here they could be.

As for Kate and her suit… whatever. It looks cheap, the colour doesn’t work on her and doesn’t fit her properly. Someone said it was because it matches the colour of the scrubs that UK nurses wear. That’s childish at this point. Theme dressing in a pandemic where health care resources are being strained, economies are shutting down and many people will have their lives forever changed shows an infantile way of thinking and just how irrelevant and useless the monarchy actually is.

    • Belli says:

It’s been horrifying to see how casually so many people in the UK are treating this. Once it was announced on Friday the restaurants, pubs and clubs were closing, a LOT of people went out for “one last bash”. Infuriating! And the government has been appalling.

These two aren’t helping. They’re taking vital workers away from their jobs for their photo op, aren’t staying at home (easy in their big Norfolk mansion!) and aren’t maintaining distance from other people. What does this accomplish other than PR for themselves? Nothing, but then that’s all they were thinking about in the first place.

I’m not a fan of the suit (all the NHS nurses I know where blue though, so maybe she’s not theme dressing for once!), but I’m not going to criticise it because I’ve been wanting her to wear a suit and dress more professionally for ages.

      • Pepper says:

I’m a Brit living abroad but “one last bash” seems to sum up that British drinking culture. All cultures love socialising and have their own traditions but Brits often seem to take it to a self-destructive and defiant level.

  7. Belli says:

Was this to try and make people forget that William thought that coronavirus a big old joke a couple of weeks ago?

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

      Obvious PR stunt is obvious.

    • Stacy Dresden says:

I still cannot believe he made that lame joke when people the world over are dying.

      • Babz says:

He also made that “joke” on the day that 250 people died in Italy. I doubt the loved ones of those who died saw the “humor” in his comments. Complete sense of entitlement and disconnection from these two. I never again want to hear Kate talking about “the children” and how important early care is, when she and her clueless husband went out in the middle of a pandemic, only to return to three children who are six and under.

  8. Lightpurple says:

Looking at Kate’s suit, I have to wonder if Ivanka spent Thursday having servants frantically search for the same suit but in flight attendant pale blue to wear to Daddy’s coronavirus press conference Friday.

  9. Becks1 says:

I dont like the cut out of the trousers on that suit. It’s a very dated cut and they are not flattering on her at all.

    Blazer and shell are fine.

The visit itself was so stupid. And its funny bc while there were lots of cloying comments about it, there were also lots of comments that were negative about it from both pro Cambridge fans and people who are…not really fans. The fans’ take was very “you’re too important, please protect yourselves!” and the non-fans were like…..what are you idiots doing?

I feel like there was probably a flurry of discussion at BP/CH/KP last week and it was agreed that the youngest working royals needed to DO SOMETHING to be seen, but honestly this is when a photo op with the kids would have been better. Show the family out for a walk in a quiet area of Norfolk and say something about “social distancing as a family” and bam, done.

This is not the same thing as the queen staying in London during World War II.

    • C-Shell says:

Yeah, I lost it when these pics came out and yelled at them on Twitter (just like I yelled at William after his mocking the virus a few days ago). I’m sure they anxiously await my opinion LOL. I have a (nasty) visceral reaction to their “concerned” faces now. They are nothing but performative and really really suck at it.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Yeah their facial expressions have always been performative, esp Unable’s. They both look constipated instead of concerned.

      • Royalwatcher says:

In the pic where they’re sitting they look like coworkers in a meeting trying not to fall asleep. They’re such awful people (for myriad reasons not just the fake faces).

      • Becks1 says:

Their expressions here may be the worst part of it. They obviously have their concerned faces on, and it comes across as cold, bored, uninterested, or some combination thereof.

      • Xo says:

Kate looks hollow when she’s listening, like a bored child at school. William overperforms his “taking this seriously” look.

      • MeghanNotMarkle says:

They always look constipated when they’re doing events. That’s their concern face.

      • Pepper says:

A DM reader put it aptly – Kate’s “I’m listening” stance is to tilt her head to the side and eyes turn semi-glazed. It really is obvious she is no more enagaged with the plight of others than she was almost ten years ago when she did that horrific Unicef interview. Wills I believe has always been more sincere, yet her lack of charisma I think drags his own spirit down and he finds it exhausting to keep giving out the concern and enthusiasm for both of them.

      • Bethany says:

She always has her head tilted because her hair will be over her eye if she doesn’t. I don’t know why she just can’t put it behind her ear or pin it back. I don’t get the point of the long bangs, like she’s trying to grow them out.
Has anyone noticed how she always is holding her fingertips? What’s that?

    • Vava says:

Yeah, those trousers are downright TRAGIC.

  10. Restless Bitch Face says:

Compliment sandwich: Kate and William draw attention to 1st responders, how nice! They do it face to face, that’s so dumb! Kate wore a modestly priced outfit and didn’t do her fancy doll hair, brava! Lol.

    • carmen says:

In this crisis, first responders don’t need these 2 to draw attention to them. Get out of the way and let them do their work!!!

      • Becks1 says:

A visit like this AFTER the crisis is over (whenever that is) would have been much more appropriate – we know it was a scary time, and you all stepped up to the plate and continued your duties etc. And I’m sure we will see many visits like that. This visit….just so tone-deaf.

      • Anners says:

I’m actually surprised they let them in. I work in a 911 call centre and NO ONE (including the Chief) who doesn’t work there is allowed in. COMS is like a petri dish – when one of us has something, all of us get it. People are switching out keyboards, sanitizing everything, and if anyone has a slight fever or cold symptoms they’re not to come in (this is unusual – generally, unless you’re actually dying, you drag yourself into work). We cut out all unnecessary visits, including food delivery (sad face) — I’m surprised they allowed a useless PR stunt.

      • ravynrobyn says:

@ BECKS 1–I highly doubt we’ll see them visiting after the crisis is over as what’s the PR value in that (that’s how Cain and Unable view it anyway!).

        ALSO.. IF THEY**REALLY**cared and really
        **WANTED**to help, they could double
Rihanna’s donation & give 10 million on behalf of the entire BRF. That amount is insignificant to them, but would be invaluable to the cause.
        SMDH…

      • carmen says:

ravynrobyn – fat chance of that happening. Their job is to “raise awareness” and ask others to do the heavy lifting, remember? Do as I say, not as I do.

  11. Spicecake38 says:

The cut of those pants isn’t very good…

    • manda says:

No, they somehow make her thighs looks thick whilst being a teeny bit baggy. I prefer a bit of a boot cut or slight flare (slight!) at pants these length. Tapered just looks dowdy. It’s had to find the right pant

    • SomeChick says:

The pants are too short. And the ease and proportions are just off. Guess there wasn’t time for it to be tailored. Maybe it was meant to camouflage the skinny.

Or maybe they wanted it to look kinda “budget” to point out how great it is that she got a less pricey new outfit. Which would still be in the “I have to think about it” range for most people. Over/under if she ever repeats it?

It is still better than frilly would have been, to be fair.

I’m just waiting to see which of these knuckleheads falls ill first. I really hope they are not vectors with all of these appearances.

Everyone was all, “Harry should videoconference instead of traveling!!!!!” and that was before there was a horrible viral pandemic going on. And now these two are stunting at the 111.

We will probably never find out what really went down between the brothers. I’m glad for Harry, Meghan, and Archie that they got out – just in time, it seems! They must be so relieved.

  12. Digital Unicorn says:

Of course they did – got to get one up on the Sussex’s and I called this last week. These two are so transparent that this is nothing more than a PR stunt AND they did NOT keep a safe distance from the people in the call centre (which was pointed out in a snarky part of the Fail article).

As for Katie Keen – she is SOOO cosplaying Meghan in the trouser suit, straight hair and heels. To be fair its a good look on her but given that she usually overdresses in frilly dresses its obvs she’s copying the look from Megs. She should wear her hair straight more often – the awful sausage curls age her.

    • ABritGuest says:

Yes I remember this move being predicted. In normal times this engagement would be commendable but not great at point when we are meant to be self isolating& NHS is struggling to cope. Hopefully they will continue to show support for health care workers which is much needed-but using technology. But tbf the visit was kind of reflective of UK leadership’s apparent apathy& slow response to this pandemic.

I remember when media said Meghan wearing trousers broke protocol even though there was ample evidence of other royal ladies wearing trousers…

    • Olenna says:

Yes, predictable and the embiggening continues with RRs tweeting accolades and pushing their stories about this ill-advised visit. The Telegraph even has a new article by known DoS-hater Camilla Tominey, declaring Duchess Keen has found her voice (again) and is ready for her future role as –get this– “monarch”. SMDH.

      • MeghanNotMarkle says:

How many times is Kate going to “find her voice”? For Pete’s sake.

      • Olenna says:

@MeghanNotMarkle, IKR. Tominey, with her smug, racist self, is like so many of the megx*ters, faux Keen fans, and RRs who delight in publicly vilifying and hating on the Sussexes. Many of these people are educated but too shrewd by half. Therefore, they don’t care how ridiculous and hypocritical they sound when trying to prop up of the Keens because someone will buy it. They repeat and promote each other’s garbage like it’s truth and gospel, knowing the low-information folks who read their comments and articles don’t have enough self-awareness and brain cells to distinguish what’s real or false.

      • Babz says:

@MeghanNotMarkle, maybe they should investigate why she keeps losing her voice so often that she has to find it again.

    • L84Tea says:

Both Meghan AND Letizia pulled this look off so much better.

  13. babsjohnson says:

The hair look better that way. The suit is dreadful, cut and color are a non-non. The visiting is so tone-deaf and stupid.

    • Züri says:

Agree on the hair and the suit, as well as with the comments on their stupidity at this obvious photo op. On some level, wanted to laud her for trying to be a bit more fashion forward, but have to go with my gut that the suit is just a dusty-pink mess (and those pants have a wonky fit upon close inspection).

    • Liz version 700 says:

The suit is dreadful. The pants are awful and the color makes her look Nannafresh. The danger of sharing the virus with first responders….just no words for these two. I used to be very neutral on them. Now I think they are just both dreadful people. And why are they right in the faces of the first responders?

      • Züri says:

What is Nannafresh? I’ve never heard that term before.

      • Liz version 700 says:

That is a very silky term I made up she looks like a Nanna or Grandmother as my grandmother wore that color.

  14. Gingerbee says:

The sourpuss trying to rehabilitate their image, after their boorish behavior at the Commonwealth ceremony. These two are so clueless.

  15. Aurora says:

They are desperately trying to repair the damage from the video of Willileaks joking about Coronavirus. They’re also likely smarting from the worldwide attention given to the Sussexes Coronavirus post which was the first from the Royal family.

This photo op was completely unnecessary and counter productive. The Cambridges are tone deaf about what constitutes good and effective PR. Very few UK outlets put this on their front page.

  16. Flying fish says:

When these two were suppose to working they were not, at a time when the people in the Know are telling us all to stay home these two clowns visit a call center…

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

They simply don’t get it at all. *sigh*

    • paddingtonjr says:

These two really are clueless. A video of them cooking, crafting, making masks or playing with the kids or sending out a “serious” message to the public about staying healthy and safe would have meant much more. A “we’re pretending to be concerned” photo op is just setting themselves up for (much deserved) ridicule.

      • lizzieb says:

        @paddingtonjr. 👏🏻

      • Becks1 says:

@Paddington – agree with your suggestions and the suggestion to have a video of George washing his hands (below.)

We hear so much about how they cook as a family – this would have been a huge PR win to show them actually cooking. Use the professional kitchen at KP if they don’t want to show their family kitchen. Show them making personal pizzas and share their recipe – even if its Mary Berry’s. Sure, its a little more personal than they usually are, but it would score them so many points during this time.

      • MeghanNotMarkle says:

These are all excellent ideas and would have been much better than putting people at more risk, and potentially exposing their children to the virus. Opening up a little would earn them so much goodwill.

      • Flying fish says:

        Very good idea Paddingtonjr.

      • Liz version 700 says:

        Yep!!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

      • paddingtonjr says:

Thanks all! This just seems like a complete misstep and lost PR coup by W&K. They want to project the whole “normal, British family” image, but when they have the opportunity show how a “normal British family” handles self-isolation, kids at home, etc., they decide to be the “concerned FFK and FFQ” and disrupt an emergency call center’s routine to show how “concerned” they can be.

      • rawiya says:

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden just shared a video of Daniel and the kids washing their hands. If Kate’s going to copy Victoria’s outfit, she could at least copy her work ethic.

  17. Justine says:

I was so waiting for this post 🙂 coffee ready !! Yep a photo-op, like Trump I always think I can not be much more disappointed, but then they prove me i’m wrong !! I hope CB’s team realize they are serving public service in those pandemic time. Kiss from France to all my quarantine friends and sorry for my rotten English.

    • Nic919 says:

      Bienvenue!

    • Becks1 says:

Your English is great! hope you all are staying safe there in France.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

Bonjour! Your English is perfectly fine!

    • Jaded says:

Bonjour from Canada! Your English is wayyyyy better than my French! Stay safe and keep commenting!

    • SomeChick says:

Kiss kiss! I love the global perspectives here. It’s not graded for grammar. We want to hear your unique voice.

I will echo Jaded: Stay safe and keep commenting!

    • Guest says:

I personally know French and even Italian parents have taken their kids out of the UK because the British response is disgracefully sluggish. They know what is going to happen.. God bless any British commenters on CB, you are going to need more than good luck in the coming weeks.. William and Catherine are Not helping, getting in the way of workers on the frontline. Now is the time to stay at home!! Record videos or something. They are taking up Vital resources. Just be lazy like before. This is not a competition of who wears the cheapest everyday woman high street suit!!! Beyond annoying. Cheap point scoring PR wearing Marks & Spencer’s clothes. And no nurses here wear blue not pink!!

      • Bohemian Angel says:

It’s very worrying here in the UK, Boris has been very wishy washy with his response and ‘advice’ so nobody is taking it seriously despite the daily reports of so many deaths in places like Italy. People here are treating this as a holiday from work, walking around without a care in the world. Just this evening the news has shown an outdoor gym jam packed with people working out right next to each other and using steel bars without gloves, people have streamed to parks, the tailback of vehicles trying to get to holiday places like Cornwall, Devon, Snowdonia, Scotland where they will overload hospitals there if they get ill!
Nhs staff have put out there own video telling people to stay at home because the government isn’t going far enough, park authorities and police had to stop people going into parks across London as it was heaving with people trying to get in.
I wish I could have got out in time, unfortunately I just finished my treatments in hospital and couldn’t travel to France like I had planned now I don’t know what’s going to happen, here in London the rate of this virus is mimicking Italy, whilst the rest of the country is two weeks behind us, it’s very scary times.

      • Guest says:

Bohemian Angel make sure you stay indoors. Londoners are going to be hit extremely hard then everyone will start wondering whyyy when this was entirely predictable! Londoners in particular seem to think everything is ‘normal’ and they are carrying on with their regular routines. Despite the fact the stats in London are already horrifying. Ambulances everyday, sometimes multiple times, in many areas. Ohh the amount of tears in the near future. I’m so sorry that people are showing themselves to be so selfish and inconsiderate. The royal family will not help people in times like these. They just take they will never give back. Can you imagine if they collectively said they will not take taxpayer money for the next 6 months or so? It’s not like they don’t have money for themselves unlike millions of Brits who are facing extremely depressing times ahead. 😐

  18. Harper says:

And, according to Rebecca English’s Twitter, they were the FIRST royals to visit frontline coronavirus workers. I mean, come on! When the senior royals above them are all in extreme danger of being felled permanently by this virus, the message still is “HAHA, look at me, we beat Granny and Pappa to the front line!”

Also read that photos of the visit were withheld so as not to step on the publicity for the Queen’s message. As if anyone cares about that right now except for William. He is the worst.

    • carmen says:

they were the FIRST royals to visit frontline coronavirus workers.
      ——————————————————————————————————————–
WTF. So frontline workers are supposed to consider this a privilege? Instead of getting in the way, distracting people from their important work and putting everyone at risk, these 2 need to self-isolate indefinitely unless they come up with a treatment or vaccine for this disease.

  19. Flying fish says:

Cain and Unable, try to remember that the people at the Call Center are working and are supplying a vital service something that you two idiots cannot seem to wrap your heads around. We need these people to stay be healthy and able to do their jobs not wasting time chatting with you two leaving them vulnerable.

  20. CindyP says:

Her hair looks so much better without the curls, blow-out, hairpieces
Don’t mind the suit but I would not have worn 4 inch stilettos with it for a daytime event

    • Digital Unicorn says:

She’s cosplaying Meghan and as usual doing it badly. Those beige LK Bennet things she loves to wear would have gone better with the colour of the suit, silver does not go with that shade of coral.

She really is so bland that everything she wears, wears her. She’s the accessory to that outfit which is actually ok, esp for her.

      • StartupSpouse says:

I actually think this is a carbon copy of a Queen Letizia look – google Letizia and “pink Hugo Boss suit.”

      • CindyP says:

Agree, didn’t notice the shoes were silver
Why Meghan & Harry had to go; she has IT, Kate does not & never will
I’ve said this before but she’s such a blank slate; hasn’t had many real life experiences
Has never really worked, supported herself, lived on her own, paid her own bills etc, etc; why she can survive that totally dysfunctional royal family
Went to University, nabbed herself a prince with help from her scheming, social climbing Mom, then spent years getting him to propose

  21. Emily says:

Kate should use Covid as the perfect excuse not to stand close to Bill or have any physical contact with him.

  22. Mara says:

Just to clarify NHS 111 is not the equivalent of 911 in the US. If you are in the UK and have urgent need of an ambulance/fire services/police you call 999.

NHS 111 is for free non-emergency medical advice, in normal times you would use it for symptoms that require immediate attention but are not life-threatening (e.g. its the middle of the night, your baby has a temperature and you don’t know whether to take it to hospital). I don’t think there is an equivalent in America because you don’t have a national health service but please correct me I’m wrong.

At the moment lots of people are calling 111 because they are worried they have Covid-19 symptons and it’s clogging up the phonelines. Will and Kate could do some good here by directing worried people with a cough to the NHS website and leave the helpline open for those who are in definite, urgent need of non-emergency medical consultation.

And of course these centres are staffed by medical professionals so they should have stayed at home to deliver that message.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

Individual insurance companies usually have nurse advice lines that folks can call if they have questions. There’s no central system, though.

This visit was incredible tone deaf and I’m just shaking my head at them. They don’t get it.

      • SomeChick says:

We DESPERATELY need national health in the states. I am hoping against hope that this will be the impetus for that to finally happen.

But what I really think is that the republicans are perfectly happy to let the Poors and the Olds die off while they pad their bank accounts. Based on their previous behavior.

  23. Noodle says:

There was another photo of them at a woman’s desk, and the woman had this hilarious “I’m play-acting for the photo” look on her face. Also, one of the operators there used to work as an operator at the palace, and told William about Diana sneaking in to take calls; she even brought toddler-him once. It was kindof a sweet story.

  24. line says:

It is such a useless and transparent visit from the Cambridges. Their visit is just a photo shoot for makeforget William’s insensitive and silly comment about the Coronavirus and also because they did not bear that the Sussexes were the first to make a statement which was taken up and praised by the American media.

In their selfish plan they forgot that the perception would not be good because they not respect the social distancinded’s rules, and continued to endanger their staff also theirs three childrens. And then they don’t help the work of operators who are busy and overworked and that they have to stop their work to welcome them.

It’s not the blitz, the world is not fighting against the Nazis, it is a very contagious virus. No medical personnel expect or want a visit from members of the royal family and also the British citizens care more about hearing news from their loved ones than from the royal ones. They are useless deep, who stay in their castles and leave important people work quietly.

    • sunny says:

How are they so bad at this? It boggles the mind that they and their staff are so incompetent! On a thread the other day, I said they should have made a video explaining and modeling good behaviors. Imagine the buzz of a handwashing video with George? They can still be opportunistic garbage humans but there are better ways to do it.

Instead the put others at risk for a transparent photo op. I will say both look ok here and I like Kate’s hair.
These two are selfish, stupid, and careless. Honestly, next time call an expert and ask how your platform could be best leveraged to support a need.

      • StartupSpouse says:

@sunny – that video with George would have been fantastic and infinitely more impactful than what they did.

      • line says:

I think your idea of the prevention video with children could have come from Sussex (moreover Mariah Carey realised one with her’s childrens) if Archie had been the same age as George. But not of the part by Cambridges because they have no understanding of charity work. For them you do just present for a visit, pretending to be interested and then take some pictures. Then everything is done.

      • MeghanNotMarkle says:

A video with George would’ve been cute and a way better method of drawing attention to the importance of hand-washing and social distancing than this obvious PR stunt.

      • ArtHistorian says:

CP Victoria’s family did an insta post where they teach their children to wash hands properly + remind the world that not everyone has access to soap and clean water in some parts of the world.

  25. MeghanNotMarkle says:

I’m still shaking my head at these two. They don’t work when it’s perfectly safe to and then they’re out here setting a poor example when they should be isolated at Anmer Hall. How stupid and tone deaf do you have to be to think this is a good idea? Sheesh.

Kate’s outfit would be fine in another color. I feel like that color washes her out. A bright blue would have been really nice. I do have to give her credit for trying something different and changing her hair, though. The look is a miss but not so bad that I’ll drag her for it.

  26. TeamAwesome says:

I’m in a royal gossip group over on Facebook. When people were judging this Lil trip someone piped up with “but their country is practicing herd immunity, so they’re just following recommended advice!” Did the government at least come out and correct that idiocy??? I can barely keep up.

Those pants look as ridiculous as his face.
I saw a pic of some nurses in similar colored scrubs, so I absolutely believe that’s why she wore that color.

    • Nic919 says:

We saw the same pic because while it normally looks to be navy blue for nurses in the NHS there was a video of UK nurses in scrubs this colour pink.

This visit took away from people who could have been answering calls from regular British citizens who don’t have private doctors and need to rely on public services. The selfishness hits all levels. Don’t show up in the midst of a pandemic for your ego. Apologize for the ignorant comment instead.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

The UK gov has recently come out and said that everyone should stay at home and only got out if its absolutely essential – PR opportunities is NOT absolutely essential. They’ve also said that if you go out, KEEP at least 6 feet away from others – Cain and Unable were NOT following gov guidelines.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

The UK govt has changed course but some people are still using the old “take it on the chin” statement to excuse poor behavior. People need to STAY HOME. PR opportunities are not essential work right now. Release an IG photo and statement like everyone else.

    • Guest says:

Team awesome, no it’s true unfortunately. British government is still practicing the horrendous herd immunity plan. That’s why they are stalling on shutting down the UK and letting everyone mix freely. There are no restrictions like in the EU. We are doomed, they just don’t care about everyday people. It’s fine for them if thousands of the poorest/elderly die. One of the Tory ministers said so himself. It was reported in the Sunday times. I’m so disgusted and appalled. British monarchy is not helping. The upcoming speech by the Queen is going to be met with disdain by everyone. Just watch (not referring to you but all the Cambridges fans who think they are doing something worthy when actually they should be keeping themselves home) Charles is quiet?? Very quiet. I know he must be self isolating but if anyone of them have it, they won’t release the info.

  27. S808 says:

I am not giving them credit for this. The execution of this is tone deaf. Other monarchies are calling (Queen maxima)/video chatting with medical professionals as to not get in the way and have people out and about needlessly. These two could’ve done the same and be an example of how social distancing isn’t the end of the world. No one in their camp ever thinks things through.

  28. Carrie says:

    PR Privilege Porn.
They would have been doing the same thing if they came to Australia : getting in the way -all because they are desperate for good publicity. I just can’t even imagine the vitriol if Harry and Meghan had done this.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

I can imagine it. They’d be raked over the coals for weeks if they pulled a stunt like this. All the headlines would read “Selfish Sussexes ignore government guidelines and visit workers, anyway.” It would blow up.

  29. February Pisces says:

I think seeing them out sends the message that “if it’s ok for bill and Cathy to wander around meeting people, them it’s ok for me to do the same”. I do think the suit looks good on her. It’s not a great suit but the change of style along with the shorter hair does make a difference.

  30. lunchcoma says:

This would have been a great time for Kate to take some photos of her kids staying at home – something she’s done in the past. These two confuse me.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

A perfect opportunity to draw attention to the important of social distancing AND earn goodwill at the same time. How are they so bad at this?

  31. Lizzie says:

The suit is the first non-ridiculous thing she has worn lately. This exercise in vanity is stupid and possibly dangerous.
Does RF have the worlds worst advisors or do they think they are smarter and ignore advisors? They are clearly not equipped to make important decisions.

  32. Beach Dreams says:

These tone deaf idiots can never get it right, can they? It’s always about praise and attention for them. Also, that suit is awful on her—especially the pants.

    • Tessa says:

she could channel Hillary Clinton by adding a headband to the pants ensemble. She is bad at dressing, some blogs say she is a fashion icon. LOL.

  33. Noodle says:

I know it’s the weird fit, but I just realized those pants look like she has static cling. Send the Laundry Troupe in Kensington Apt 1 and Anmer Hall some Bounce dryer sheets! #royalstheyrejustlikeus

  34. TheOriginalMia says:

Know what would have been better than this visit? A video with the kids, discussing the importance of hand washing and social distancing with the hope that things will return to normal for everyone soon.

  35. Thea says:

No. How do they always manage to put the wrong foot out everytime? Right now, you’re suppose to be practicing social distancing. It’s not a time for PR visits. They’re are taking time away from people who need it. Save the PR visits for after the crisis – that’s when you visit to thank them for all the hard work they did. Moreover, they are not leading by example by a) going out when you should be staying in and b) not keeping 6 feet or 2 m apart. Seriously, COVID-19 should be a piece of cake for them. They’re pros at doing noting and staying at home.

  36. aria says:

they said they are showing awareness to these people but instead people talk bout what keen kate wears. I mean at other times I can understand but this global pandemic and everyone around the world is dying from this deadly visit, does she have to wear new clothes? doesn’t she have a million for this occasion? if Meghan does this she will be crucified for wearing new clothes during this time. But keen kate is white, so it will accept for them and people frowning over this look.

    • Gingerbee says:

Aria, exactly. Look how some of the posters were reacting to a message on on a Sussex’s post. They were commenting as though SussexRoyal IG message told people to not believe WHO and the CDC.

  37. Texas says:

I love that suit. It seems a little retro like something I had in past decades. I would wear it to work for sure.

  38. Suz says:

Well, we all know Cath is truly concerned if she’s not wearing her clip on wig…

  39. Busyann says:

The color of the suit is gorgous, but there’s something wonky with the fit. Kate is almost 40, and good for her for trying to change up her appearance, but she still doesn’t know what flatters her.

  40. Mouki's wife says:

I’m actually wondering how much longer she’ll stay with him. I highly suspect she’s just about done with Will. She is the smarter of the two. She is a good mother. I doubt she’ll let her kids be exposed due to this type of nonsense for long. That suit, I’m judging it hard. Also, sometimes I think her clothes look good or great but the lack of styling ruins them! It’s always the wrong shoe. The hair is never really right, except for big nights with tiaras.

    • bamaborn says:

Don’t worry. As long as Ma Middle is around, she’ll be there. The question should be, will Bill get tired of her?

    • rawiya says:

Nah, she’s there FOREVER. She’s so close to the crown. There’s no way MaMidds is letting it go. Any end to the relationship would come from Willy’s end, and considering Kate’s the only idiot who will put with him…

  41. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

111 is on its knees at present. A large number of new operators have been taken on but they take weeks to train. In the meantime the world and its wife are ringing up with suspected symptoms or even – and this is particularly evil – abusing them 20 times a day. The last thing they need are these chinless wonders getting in their way and preventing them from doing their jobs.
Day 5 (I think, I don’t know what day I’m in) of coronavirus. It’s been hell – the breathlessness is the worst. Couldn’t sleep last night because my lungs felt as if they’d been stuffed with wool. Of course the moment I managed to drop off the cat exploded like a small furry bomb, with window rattling yowls. I don’t think I’ve ever been so tired in my life. Endless shooting pain and inability to find a cool space. It’ll be a while before I can resume downward dog and crow pose, even if I don’t end up in hospital.

    • lizzieb says:

@andrewsnemesis. Do you have access to a wedge pillow? Even an extra pillow behind you might help. Lying flat can make coughing worse. Lying on one side vs the other might help. I can breathe lying on left side but not right. Lying on my back is the worst. Do you have a recliner that lies almost flat. Those can be great for getting some sleep. No covid 19 yet, just 35 years of lung issues. Hope these suggestions are of some help.

    • Becks1 says:

I’m so sorry to hear that @ANdrewsNemesis. I hope you recover soon!

    • Elle says:

It must be especially galling to see these twits when you’re not well. Get well soon, bon courage!

    • Nic919 says:

Sending positive thoughts so you can have a quick recovery. For breathing issues I use Vicks vaporub on my chest… that could help.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

I’m sorry to hear that you’re battling this virus. I hope you are on your way to being well quickly. <3

    • Jaded says:

Oh my gosh, how awful, am sooooo sorry! I used to get horrible bronchitis frequently and found putting my face over a pot of steaming water with a towel draped over my head to keep the steam in helped clear up my stuffed lungs.

I also recommend using a picture of Boris Johnson as a dartboard very theraputic.

      Hoping you’re over this soon!

    • Oh Andrew’s Nemesis. I’m so sorry to hear you have virus. My prayers are with you for a strong recovery. Lizzieb has some great suggestions about positioning yourself for easier breathing. I’ve had pneumonia and bronchitis a lot and everything she has suggested I have also found to be helpful. Do you have access to a vaporizer or something similar? That might help too.

    • Liz version 700 says:

Andrew’s nemesis i am sending giant hugs and good energy your way. We are thinking about you. Vick’s vapor rub is really good also you can smear some on the wall if the shower and let it get hot and steamy when you shower that helps me a lot.

      • Lady D says:

They are now making Vicks in puck form that you can drop in the shower. You can also fill the washer with hot water and throw a couple in.

    • Joanna says:

Hope you feel better soon! 😘

    • jerald says:

If you can get a hold of some zinc pills, take those immediately. I believe I also have this crap (I’m in the Seattle area and my husband works for Costco) – it really loosens up the chest tightness.

    • Pineapple says:

ANDREW’S NEMESIS … so, so sorry you are sick! Dang it, so many people will get this. Hope you are on the mend shortly. XO I enjoy reading your comments, hope you keep at it as a way to take your mind off of life.

Thank gosh will and kate did their call center visit, doesn’t that make you feel better? 😜 Boost the spirits? Xo xo (I did not capitalize their names as I think I am done with that now.)

  42. Agnes says:

They’re so desperate for people to forget Willi joking about the CV in Dublin that they’ll bother the people who shouldn’t be bothered now. Just to look “serious.” Ie not joking about all the peasants who think they’re dying. These two are ham actors on a bad sitcom with canned laughter and applause.

  43. lizzieb says:

At this point I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Just the sight of the royals is starting to annoy me. They live in opposite world where everything they do is wrong yet also self serving.

  44. yinyang says:

The first picture standing between William and staff member, haha.
That’s a very 90s pink, very golden girlish– I’ve always liked the colour though. She looks like Michael Jackson (his white woman years).

Liked how Meghan and Harry have handled the Covid 19 pandemic much better.

  45. Sarah says:

So how many more medical professionals need to post ‘we come to work for you, please stay home for us’ messages before these idiots listen? We are being told what to do by the government for our own safety and the safety of others and people are ignoring this. We need ROLE MODELS making a public point of how we should behaving. Not this. Totally tone deaf and it just makes me angry.

    • Love that Sarah —- “We come to work for you, please stay home for us.” I have a doc friend working at a very busy, large city ER says they are seeing so many more 30-40 year olds who don’t just have the virus, but have it bad. He says it is extremely fool-hardy and dangerous to keep thinking that anyone of any age is somehow exempt. I hope the Cambridge’s desperate need for publicity and attention don’t impact their children. They should be self isolating like the rest of us. This is not an already bombed out street in WW2 London where one can safely commiserate with one’s subjects…….this is an active, highly contagious, unseeable virus that doesn’t care that you are the future future King and Queen.

  46. Citresse says:

The best thing William can do right now is get a second video to the British public with a full update and meeting with PM.

  47. MellyMel says:

What was the point of this? They should be setting a better example and staying home. Ugh…they’re definitely confused. Anyways on a superficial note, the suit is gorgeous color, but the fit of the pants is a bit weird.

  48. kd says:

Firstly Kate, a ponytail and flats would have been the look. Secondly could this not have been a split-screen Instagram/Facebook/Youtube Live?

  49. Nic919 says:

For those who pretend that they were following orders from the UK govt (as if people aren’t dying by the hundreds daily in nearby Italy and France) i will point out that Boris Johnson on Monday finally took a more serious stand so bill and Cathy actually went against what the UK govt said when they visited on Wednesday. Besides the virus does not care about govt policy. There is no defence to this exercise in ego, as much as the sugars want to spin it.

  50. Ashley says:

Sorry, but I am here for that pant suit. I live it on her and actually I think it’s more fashion-forward than not.
I wasn’t sure about them visiting in-person, but honestly, they haven’t been really shutting down in England until just now.

  51. Suzieq359 says:

They can stage these ops all they want but his face tells it all. He doesn’t want to be bother. He’s already made jokes about COVID-19 so now he’s pouting that he has to pretend to be concerned. So over them

  52. Awkward symphony says:

These self serving pretentious idiots may have risked the lives of callers because of distracting the staff with the visit. Other European royals have been more responsible in choosing to either drop by to leave flowers and cookies in hospitals or connecting with volunteers via Skype+sending video thanking them.
This was reckless and frankly stupid. They could’ve done this afterwards. I cant believe chuck hasn’t spoken up yet!! I hope he didnt get sick because of prince of Monaco

  53. Pepper says:

    Not very inspiring.

  54. Jaded says:

I wonder if they practice their faux-concerned, sympathetic facial expressions in front of the mirror? Other than that, they’ve done nothing substantive. On the Canadian news last night, one of the on-air news readers is in quarantine at home so she did a video on several ways of making your own hand sanitizers because it’s impossible to find thanks to the f*cking hoarders. Now THAT would be something useful they could do, as the ingredients are all readily available and cheap. But no, they have to ponce around getting in the way and posing like mannequins. Christ on a cracker just go back to Anmer and play with your kids.

  55. M Narang says:

I completely agree. If they had any common sense they could easily put something out on social media because we all know, as adults, how 111 or 911 works in an emergency. But these two have no common sense and 0 work ethic. This very old school, pointless “Royal duties” that actually jeopardized the response workers we need in a pandemic. Also you’re right, those pants don’t Kate properly.

  56. yiza says:

I think the affordable clothes and lack of hair fruffery are meant to reflect the seriousness of the situation that they’re dealing with, so the result is that we get a rare look at what kate would actually look like if she didn’t have $20k to spend on any given outfit for an official outing.

    • Guest says:

I agree! Underneath the fancy expensive glitter.. she is plain Jane and always has been. This is what she looks like without any fancy treatment. FYI there’s nothing wrong being a plain jane but most people don’t have millions a year for their beauty and clothes. She is average without the money and everything else. Pretty but plain – nothing beautiful, Queen like or outstanding. The other younger Queens and Queens to be around the world are so much more charismatic and charming. Yes they have work done too and an expensive lifestyle but they also offer something else than just clothes, body and hair! Maxima, Letizia, Rania etc they are smart beautiful women.

  57. Veronica says:

The cut of the pants required them to be more closely tailored to the leg. The bagginess around the knees reads ill fit instead of intentional fashion. Otherwise, it’s a great, modern look. Just not executed as well as it should be.

These two really have the worst PR instincts.

  58. Nic919 says:

So a BP aide tested positive for the virus. That probably won’t be the only one.

  59. Courtney B says:

The could’ve done something so much better that actually helps the public. Some p&a where they discuss social distancing and how to properly wash your hands with George and Charlotte. Just a lot of stuff with their platform to pass on information like how to sew medical masks etc that are online and encourage people to help.

  60. Mads says:

Her eyes are dead, she has no interest in being there.

  61. Sass says:

The pants and color are bad.

So much money for so much meh.

  62. BedazzleSmokingGun says:

So this person probably got several people involved getting her this suit, like delivery people, retail floor sales people, PA, security, and who knows who else during this pandemic because she simply couldn’t go one day without shopping for new clothes instead of going into her vast closet and put something together. You know she’s never going to wear it again. All so she can cosplay being a serious and very concerned person.
Plus she doesn’t even look good, those pants are terrible; what a waste.

  63. Leia says:

@Jaded , again, I AGREE Will and Kate’s trip to 111 was a bad example and a waste of workers’ critical time and energy. I also was bothered by Meghan’s touching AT THAT TIME. Why is everyone on this site jumping on me for saying how I feel?

  64. Leia says:

NOTE: overtime I’ve tried to reply directly to a comment directed at me, it shows as a new post. Not my intention.

  65. Snap Happy says:

This is the worst thing they could have done. 1. They shouldn’t be interrupting these people. 2. They are very close. 3. People are going to see this and think they can go around other people too.
They should have sent a video from
Amber sending greeting and well wishes. Hell, throw the kids in the video and make people smile and reinforce social distancing.

  66. Leia says:

@somechick, are you okay? This site is light-hearted and we are not supposed to personally attack each other. You are not in charge of my opinion.

  67. Meg says:

Kate looks miserable sitting next to will in that one pic where will looks judgemental of whoever hes pretending to listen to

  68. Prof Trelawney says:

just here to pile on… What the Sussexes posted was filled with genuine concern, intelligence, and kindness. Their empathy and engagement shine through all that they do. The Cambridges, oth, doing this is so wrong, so tone deaf and so self-serving. Esp after the joking and down playing of it just recently. And… her suit is hideous — the proportions, cut, color are all just awful. It’s like she’s stuck in the v worst parts of the 1980s working girl mode.

  69. Courtney B says:

I get Leia’s comment though I agree with the majority here that the Cambridges are far worse given the current guidelines and their bad example. Especially considering the number of relatives they have who are over 65 and thus higher risk.

But when the Sussexes visited the UK they were given props here, rightly, for not bringing Archie seemingly because of concerns about the virus. But, by that standard of responsible and cautious behavior, then it should’ve extended to their patronage visits too. The level of warmth, comfort, etc shown are separate issues and I don’t think there’s really any disagreement there.

  70. Kimber says:

I’m in the minority in that I actually really like Kate’s suit. And that is definitely surprising. It’s clear that her hair person is properly off duty. However like most others here I find it so tone deaf, self serving and selfish that they go out to a workplace- no matter what type it is. And the utter irony that it goes against their posting and the government guidelines. So they are above the law…? Ok, got it.

  71. Guest says:

I said above that if any of them have it – Charles Harry or whoever – they won’t let it get out to the public. Was Duchess of Cambridge really shopping in a supermarket last weekend? Why would they publish that story? Highly irresponsible to mention she was out and about so everyone keep calm and carry on. Not!! Can’t their advisors just tell them to go back to being lazy? Now is not the time to be seen anywhere or to put out those stupid dangerous stories in the papers!! The irony! For years when they should have been seen out and about helping the public, doing their work engagements, they used to disappear for long periods of time. But they won’t go away and sit down now when they really need to!!

  72. Brc says:

I bet that she’ll burn that Hillary pant suit… you will never see her wear it again. Probably changed at KP before heading back to amner

  73. Suzanne says:

    I want to know:
Q 1. what happens with all her clothes? Are they stored in a palace somewhere in a big room and an aid takes her there & she picks out what she’ll wear?
Q2. do they sleep in the same bed? My guess is they did, now they don’t & he might invite her in to the royal bedchambers if he feels like it. She probably asks Carole what she thinks she should do when he asks.
Q3. how do you guys have all your insights? Is it just from royalwatching on sites like this & attending events?
Also, the comments are very well written, with good ideas, insights, and humour. Great vocabulary too! This site will help people make it through the ‘stay at home’ times, for sure. Good on you all!

  74. Marni112 says:

If they didn’t appear it would be an issue, they did appear and it’s an issue…no win either way.

  75. Marni112 says:

If they didn’t appear it would be an issue, they did appear and it’s an issue…no win either way.

    • Nic919 says:

There is no both sides to this. Social distancing is being imposed to save lives. They could have sent a video message or called in through Skype. They did not. They want a photo op to make up for the ignorant comments will said earlier. So it’s 100% a loss and there is no spinning how dumb this was. Hundreds of Thousands have died because this virus has spread in the community exactly through actions like what will and Kate have done. Selfish people unwilling to modify their behaviour to help others. They should only be condemned for further confusing the narrative of what everyone should be doing. Stay home. Including the people at KP. They aren’t special or virus resistant and they could have spread it to the people working those calls.

  76. Dropbear says:

While in principle it was a nice gesture from W&K, the timing, how of this PR visit was carried out and with whom (essential front line staff) was totally inappropriate, unnecessary and inherently risky given the current situation with CV infection rates and governments incumbent directive that’s already in place to self isolate. Doing the wrong thing at the wrong time, even with good intentions, causes more harm than good

  77. Awkward symphony says:

To the trolls insisting on bashing harry and Meghan as if they were the only people doing public duties 2 wks ago look at this👇 and enjoy all the handshake, selfie moments..etc your boy Bill did during tour and AFTER harry’s Silverton experience event!! Williams event was march 12 whilst harry’s was march 6th.
You can whine all you want but the facts are there. NOBODY in the uk was taking this seriously until a week ago. The cambridges CHOSE to do this despite the gov announcement calling for self distancing & avoiding unnecessary contact.

  78. qui says:

The good illustration of how useless and dangerous is the monarchy now.

  79. Well-Wisher says:

    Ladies and Gentlemen:

    “The future king and queen”.

It seems like the general consensus in certain quarters is “Get rid of Meghan”.

Before she left entirely they turn to Kate and say “You be Meghan”.

    Hence neverending cosplay.

  80. marni112 says:

Well, damned iif the Cambridges did and dammed if they didn’t .If they had not appeared , it would have all been about they are lazy, selfish, engaging in self promotion and all the usual stuff .So they diid , and the reaction is predictable .I am not sure how keen Kate was on this event -she looked upset. No doubt there is the obvious concern of transmitting to the children . I am glad to hear the UK is finally going iinto lockdown. Why they have waited this long is beyond me .Also cannot understand in the US, people at the beach etc ., parking lots of churches that are full.It boggles the mind.

  81. Deanne says:

Her hair is still being blown out. Her natural hair is very curly. Photos from their honeymoon (now scrubbed from the internet) showed how much natural curl she has.
