Donald Trump: The media is out to get me by accurately reporting on the pandemic

Coronavirus Task Force press briefing at the White House

Donald Trump is so bad, I am struggling to even find descriptors for how bad it is. Unhinged lunatic, a maniac, an evil douchebag, etc. He’s truly getting people killed through his own mismanagement of the coronavirus pandemic, and he can’t stop spreading misinformation, lies and conspiracies. He also needs to be praised 24-7, and he can’t stop bragging about what he’s doing or how big his ratings are. It’s insane. It’s completely bonkers that this is our world. Yesterday, Trump called in to Fox News for a phone interview, and Vanity Fair did a longer piece about all of the crazy sh-t he said, and here is just PART of it.

Asked by cohost Brian Kilmeade about a Washington Post editorial condemning Russia and China for spreading absurd misinformation about the virus—including, in the case of Russia, that it was made by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and in the case of China, that it had been let loose on Wuhan by the U.S. Army—Trump responded, “Number one, you don’t know what they’re doing. And when you read it in the Washington Post, you don’t believe it. I believe very little when I see it. I see stories in the Washington Post that are so fake, that are so phony. I have stories that are such fake stuff, and that’s number one.” Then he added, of governments spreading completely outrageous lies: “They do it and we do it…Every country does it.”

Trump later returned to the conspiracy he pushed throughout January, February, and a not-insignificant portion of March: that the press’s reporting on COVID-19 is singularly focused on taking him down. “They will do anything they can to hurt this presidency, and yet here we are with the best numbers we’ve ever had,” Trump moaned, apparently more concerned with his approval numbers than the number of Americans who’ve died from the virus. “I don’t even understand it when you can get such fake news from—New York Times is a totally dishonest paper, they’re dishonest people. Washington Post, same thing. I’m trying to figure out for three and a half years, who is more dishonest, who is more corrupt? The Washington Post or the New York Times? When I figure it out, I’ll let you know. We’ll have a special.”

Elsewhere during the show, Trump did not take kindly to a question about Nancy Pelosi’s comment that his initial, well-documented “denial” of the crisis was proving deadly. “Look, she’s a sick puppy, in my opinion,” Trump said of the Speaker of the House. “She really is. She’s got a lot of problems.… Don’t forget, she was playing the impeachment game. Her game where she ended up looking like a fool. She was doing nothing but—all she did for the first long time was impeach, impeach. This went on for years, I mean, if you think about it. That’s all she did. She didn’t do anything.” (Actually, if you “think” about it, the whole impeachment thing went on for a matter of months, but sure, what is time anyway?)

[From Vanity Fair]

As someone who avoids listening to this man as much as I can, is he getting up at the White House podium and saying this sh-t there too? His stupidity is dangerous. He admits he’s spreading misinformation, insists that the media is out to get him by accurately reporting on a pandemic and calls Nancy Pelosi a “sick puppy” for accurately quoting him. During the interview, he also threatened Gov. Andrew Cuomo AND took credit for Cuomo’s high approval rate and a ton more.

Oh, and at Trump’s White House briefing yesterday, the My Pillow CEO was there??

Trump you complete and utter Tool!
You have shown your ass to the entire world during your idiot way of dealing with a worldwide pandemic!
Argh! Trump and David Geffen can both STFU!
    Useless, ignorant, self-involved, physco tools.
My old dog could do a better job being POTUS, at min the dog would sit quietly off to the side of Dr. Fauci!!
Geez, just reading this headline has brought my temper up 100%.

    • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

He is so full of shit he should’ve had acute blood poisoning from it by now! To continue to say he’s delusional is a YUUUUUGE understatement!

I can’t stand the sound of his voice. Makes my skin crawl. The only ones I listen to are Cuomo’s and Gavin Newsom’s updates, and Fauci. Birx has swallowed a HUGE cup of Kool-aid and gone to “The Dark Side”.

Sometimes I wonder if this is Pompeo’s version of “The Rapture”, and that’s making them all more unhinged….

ETA: This got lost in all the virus news yesterday, but Mango Mussolini had a PRIVATE call with Putin again…no released notes (unless they’re on that “private server”, and no one else in the room). Guess who got new directives from his “boss”?

      • Allergy says:

I have to mute Dump, his stuffy-nose perv voice creeps me out. I also cannot look at him. Wish he tripped on that podium and cracked his skull.

      • BeanieBean says:

No doubt why he won’t allow any criticism of Russia & China.

      • Steff says:

I echo all your statements. When he accused doctors of stealing masks I absolutely lost it. I would have shot at the tv I was so mad. That was the worst thing he could say.

Regarding his convos with Putin, you know it’s about the 2020 election and how they can steal it again. I do hope the Interpol/FBI have found a way to record them.

    • Allergy says:

My vote goes to your dog! Yay dog!

  2. Sam the Pink says:

He goes beyond inept. An inept person has good intentions and tries, but they aren’t effective, or don’t know how. That’s not Trump. Trump is actively malicious. He doesn’t provide sufficient supplies to states that didn’t vote him. He tears into individuals who have criticized him and undercut what they are trying to do. If he was trying to help and just doing a lousy job, there’d be room to be forgiving, but he’s not. He’s actively evil and malicious in everything he does.

    • Esmom says:

He really is. Seems like that’s always been what drives him. He’s never lifted a finger to try to learn what it takes to be a leader in any capacity. He thinks he knows it all.

Even worse, imo, are the people who still support him. I just got into a beef on Twitter with a MAGAt who insists none of the pandemic response falls on Trump, that it’s the states’ responsibility. Willful, aggressive ignorance is what we are up against.

      • Sam the Pink says:

Well, the day to day management falls on the states. But that is sort of a moot point now when multiple governors (including some Republicans) have all said that the federal government is not giving them the resources they need. They do not have sufficient medical supplies. they are getting caught up in red tape that should have been removed. They cannot be effective managers if they are not being given the tools, and that is a federal responsibility.

      • naomipaige99 says:

His supporters are clearly as unstable as he is. his supporters are clearly as delusional as he is. Very scary that they are walking among us

  3. Dina says:

I am so sorry this piece of garbage is your president, I can’t even believe how awful he is. I hope no one is actually listening to anything he is saying, he is going to get everyone killed. Gah. So angry.

  4. Catwoman says:

The My Pillow guy and the Hobby Lobby guy can just go f@@k themselves. Neither one of them will ever see a dime of my money.

  5. Earl says:

I used to admire Americans and think highly of the nation. This chucklehead’s presidency and his approval ratings have destroyed that.

    • ChillyWilly says:

That sucks Earl. There are SO many decent, kind and generous American citizens. People who would literally give you their shirt off their back. Don’t judge us based on the Abominable Trump. I am repulsed by Putin and Kim but I know that the people of Russia and North Korea are mostly good and decent.

      • Allie says:

@ChillyWilly: The difference to the countries you just mentioned is that the USA still has free media and does not suppress & incarcerate political opposition. American people are provided valid and true information about their president and government by the media (excl. Fox News and other conspiracy crap). They are free to demonstrate and elections are not faked or manipulated. In the last election it became even more clear that MILLIONS of US voters believe in fake news, vote on inhumane politics or don’t use their right to vote at all. Yes, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. Still, tens of millions of people voted Trump. He is not like Republican candidates in the years before which I already found really frightening. Him becoming POTUS is a huge red flag. The fact that his base and republicans still support him speaks volumes. I hope the USA will one day find their way back to the nation I also used to admire.

  6. ArtHistorian says:

Every time Trump opens his gob he just proves that he lives in bizarro world where everything is topsy-turvy. However, a pandemic doesn’t respect the alternate reality that the US President apparently lives in.

    • The Truth Piper says:

No one is out to get Trump.

He’s so incompetent and paranoid, he imagines people are intentionally doing things to make him look bad when he needs no help — because he’s doing it all to himself.

  7. Veronica says:

Yet people will vote for him in November. That’s the terrifying part.

I just applied for mail in ballot. I’m not messing around with it anymore. If this has done nothing else, it’s highlighted the need for states rights in the face of corrupt governing.

    • naomipaige99 says:

It’s scary that they walk and talk amongst us. They are just as cray cray as DT is.

  8. boobra says:

in this alleged “shithole” (frump’s words) country i live in of South Africa, the population was really afraid of our Government not taking the pandemic seriously. We are currently on Day5 of a country wide lockdown for 21 days, subject to extension if necessary. Non essential travel and work is extremely restricted, alcohol and cigarette sales are banned, the army and police are patrolling hot spots. We are getting regular feedback from the relevant Ministry Department Heads. It is rough, it is tough, people are still waiting to be paid monthly pension and disability grants in order to go stock up on their essentials. We don’t have the best healthcare and infrastructure but everyone is playing their part so we don’t have a catastrophic breakdown like Italy. Government hasn’t perfected the system but they are doing a damn sight more than Donald Trump’s administration which seems to be focusing on everything else but the virus. Trump is just making everything all about himself. Good luck America the brave

    • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for your kind words, Boobra! (but omg, NO alcohol sales??? I SO look forward to 5 pm and my glass of wine! Helps keep me sane 😊)

      Stay safe and well! xx

      • boobra says:

lolz…President Ramaphosa gave the citizens a week’s advance notice before lockdown was officially imposed on 27 March. so it gave us ample time to stock up on essentials and our vino. take care of yourselves wherever you are 🙏

    • fluffybunny says:

WTF. Alcohol is essential. I bought a case of wine before shit went sideways. If it gets bad we can break into the hard alcohol collection.

  9. MsIam says:

If Joe Exotic wore a suit and tie and stopped using meth……Sorry that’s probably an insult to Joe to compare him to Trump. But they are both narcissists, at least one of them isn’t trying to run the country.

  10. Christin says:

These daily replacement rallies disguised as a briefing never start on time. They are usually nearly an hour later than the announced time. Then it is roughly 90 minutes of mostly nonsensical talk from him. I don’t believe anything he says or promises.

Why networks are still airing these thinly disguised political rallies is a mystery. Just carve out any notable material from Fauci or any other sane speaker and go with that.

    • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

It should be on a time delay to, as you say, ferret out the lies and misinformation. Pretty much ALL that should be airing is Fauci’s portion anyway.

    • fluffybunny says:

Yesterday my local station showed zero of Trump’s press briefing.

  11. Bucky Bieber says:

So Trump and Biden are the two best candidates the US system can serve up? Yikes.

    • Alarmjaguar says:

Dude, Don’t even both sides this!

      • naomipaige99 says:

        ++++1!!!!

      • ChillyWilly says:

        Word, Alarmjaguar!

      • Bucky Bieber says:

Oh I wouldn’t. Trump is an inarticulate buffoon who has had multiple allegations of sexual assault leveled at him. Whereas Biden is an inarticulate buffoon who has only been accussed of the one count of sexual assault. So yeah, not as bad as Trump.

      • Veronica S. says:

Yeah, I get that it’s really fun to act above it all, but speaking as somebody who actually lives in a major swing state? One that went for Trump last year after thirty years of being a blue state? We don’t get to play that game. The “lesser evil” isn’t an abstract for us. It’s a legitimate responsibility we have to weigh against our own preferences. People who live in reliable blue or red states have the privilege of protest voting. States like mine do not. We determine elections.

Pennsylvania went to Trump by literally less than 50,000 votes, not even 1% of those cast, votes that gotten eaten up by candidates like Stein and Johnson. So as a result, we had to watch all twenty of our delegates go to Trump, helping to give him the 2016 win – and then he got to run roughshod because those people decided not to bother showing up to vote for the Congressional races, either. It’d be real nice if people stopped pretending that isn’t a very real fear here in states like mine that it will happen again because of this attitude and that there won’t be very real consequences for all of us if we don’t manage to flip one or both branches of government.

      • L4frimaire says:

Seriously! I don’t care at this point who the nominee is. I’m voting against Trump. And I bet Meghan is too! The way he’s handled this crises is absolutely disgraceful and pray for this nation. BTW, Old boy’s outburst got them an article in The NY Times.

  12. Liz version 700 says:

The Emperor has finally figured out he had no clothes and he is desperate to find someone to blame. To late. 100’s of years from now student will Study the historically cruel response led by the Trump administration and they will all see him laid bare

    • Allergy says:

He’ll be remembered as one of the most hideous human beings. Hope all his crap will be exposed and detailed in history books.

  13. ChillyWilly says:

Just when I think this mother effer can’t possibly do anything to shock me , he pulls some shit like giving this Mr Pillow creep a free infomercial. Good for CNN cutting away. The networks should all do this.

    • Sandy Eggo says:

Yeah, that pillow guy was next level batsh*t crazy. Dump’s voice and anus face make me ill, so I’ve never watched one of his “briefings.” But I had WaPo open when it came on and I watched out of curiosity. I was surprised Dump didn’t go too far off script. But then that pillow guy came on to kiss his ring, and started in on his religious BS, and W.T.A.F. ?! How is any of this ok?!?!

  14. adastraperaspera says:

Trump continues to successfully manipulate the media and orchestrate outrage. His buddies (like Jeff Zucker, head of CNN and Fox’s Murdoch) continue to give him free air time, like they did before the election in 2016. He wants his insults of journalists like PBS Newshour’s Yamiche Alcindor to become the headline story, to distract from his current campaign to use Covid-19 deaths to win the election.

    • Chrissy says:

I felt so sorry for Yamiche bring put in that position she kept her cool though, which is more than I could have done. She is professionalism personified and his is a pathetic disgrace.

      • Aang says:

Me too. I would have let loose string of profanities, thrown my shoe at him and then been dragged away by the secret service. I could not do that job.

  15. Sean says:

It’s truly amazing the hoops his followers will jump through to back him up.

I had a very depressing conversation with my Christian, Trump supporting mother about this a few days ago. I did nothing to provoke her she just went off on the following things:

    – if people die from the virus, it’s a natural death as viruses are part of nature.
    – people aren’t meant to live forever anyway so what’s the big deal if they go sooner?
    – we should feel lucky this didn’t happen 50 years ago otherwise we’d really be in trouble because our medicine wasn’t as good as it is today.
    – there’s no actual way to determine if the US has responded poorly to this. It’s all subjective.
    – everyone knows Trump is ridiculous and not to listen to him. Yes, it’d be nice to have a president we could lean on in a time like this but he’s still better than most Democrats.
    – Trump isn’t a politician but a businessman. That’s why he’s focused on saving the economy versus saving more lives.

Sigh. I needed two rum and cokes after speaking with her. I can’t believe this is the same woman who raised me.

    • MsIam says:

Just two rum and cokes? I would surely need to smoke a joint after hearing all that. You have my sympathies my friend.

      • Sean says:

Thank you. I truly have no words. It often feels like I don’t even know my parents anymore.

      • elle says:

@Sean, I feel the same way about my family. Their souls have been sucked out and replaced by a recording of Fox & Friends.

    • Steff says:

Your mom still has her head in the sand. Does she care about dying soon rather than later? What about the people she’s around? Her family? Friends?

    • Valerie says:

omg, I’ve seen the second one echoed on twitter. Some ‘Christian’ lady was tweeting about how if she dies tomorrow, she’ll die happy because she’s doing what she wants and not letting the government control her life. And everyone dies, so if her number is up tomorrow, who cares? And these are the same people who go on and on about abortion rights and scream that every life is precious. They don’t even value their own.

    • Valerie says:

Also, LOL at still calling him a businessman. Is she aware that all of his ventures failed?

So sorry you have to put up with this and from your own mother. It’s terrible to know that you can’t even talk to them, 🙁

      • Sean says:

Oh yes, she’s fully aware of his abysmal record in business ventures. She doesn’t care though. As long as he’s good for the economy and tough on immigration, that’s all that matters. Anything to the contrary is just “what the Democrats want you to believe.”

      • dreamchild says:

OMG Sean I am so sorry for you. I can’t imagine when its your own family member. For me, I actually moved from Clearwater FL back to NYC
        1) because my Mom is 91 and needed some support
        2) because I no longer felt comfortable living around all the Trump white folks. I even worked for a small company that were all Trumpers and the truth is because of their undying support I no longer felt I could trust them. These people are the flag bearing type that swear they love honor freedom integrity yet they worship a lying cheating lowdown thug who is the very opposite of all they say they hold dear.
        3) as a 64 year old black woman the Trump people down there really scared me and I’ve lived/worked in predominately white spaces my whole life.
I really really don’t get it and I can only hope that this pandemic is to teach humankind a lesson in humility. God save us all.

  16. Lightpurple says:

His adult children are just as bad as he is and, instead of stepping up to get their father the care he clearly needs, are encouraging these ridiculous attacks on the media and states and the denial of equipment for those who don’t worship him.

  17. Bucky says:

I’m surprised that there isn’t more outrage about the 17+ tons of PPE we sent to China in February. But I can tell Trump is defensive about it. I think that’s why he’s constantly accusing states of exaggerating their need, and accusing doctors of stealing supplies.

  18. Lara says:

“He also needs to be praised 24-7, and he can’t stop bragging about what he’s doing or how big his ratings are.”

Puts into perspective how much groveling Jared Kushner and Ivanka have done/possibly still do to retain their positions. He does not have a history of being kind to his wives or children, which leads me to speculate on what kind of cold hearted person Melania must be that we’ve seen HIM seeking validation from HER.

  19. Tate says:

I just learned that a friend lost her father to this virus. Complained of a cold one day and he was gone 5 days later. The time frame goes back to when trump was still down playing it. How many will lose their lives unnecessarily due to trump’s lies and disinformation. It makes me so angry.

    • Christin says:

      I am sorry.

It is frustrating to see that some people continue to take this situation so lightly.

  20. april says:

I read an article in The Week that said that we are the laughingstock of the world according to other countries. It’s his actions that have gotten us into a health and economic crisis. It had to get as bad as it is getting and will get for people to change their actions and beliefs.

  21. Valerie says:

Scary, and scarier still is the fact that his supporters will just eat this right up. They believe the same thing. There has to be someone who can push back every time he tries to further this narrative.

    • naomipaige99 says:

His supporters are probably just as mentally unstable as he is!!

      • Valerie says:

That’s the problem. 🙁 They’re not smart, but they are experts in deflecting and projecting. They have answers for everything – none of them correct unless you’re as whacked-out as they are.

    • april says:

That’s exactly true. The Week also said his current approval rating is so high because his supporters love the way he acts and speaks. They are just as deranged as he is. Also, I read somewhere a poll that said approx. 65% of Fox News watchers say he’s doing a good job with the pandemic. If he continues on the same trajectory, our country will lose more respect and power and other countries will start to shun us.

      • MsIam says:

That Joe Exotic guy from the Tiger King doc supposedly got 19% of the vote in Oklahoma when he ran for governor and his supporters praised him the same way as they do Trump.

  22. Thea says:

Like he said during the election, he could shoot someone on fifth avenue and the magats will still applaud him. Cause that’s what he’s doing, he’s murdering people. And look at his approval numbers. Sigh. I weep for humanity.

  23. KellyRyan says:

Like Jan, I’ll watch Gov Cuomo and Gov Newsom even leaving CNN on when I’m not watching. The moment Drumpf is on, quick station change. I have neither heart or stomach for Bozo.
